A crisis is said to be brewing in the All Progressives Congress over appointments into boards of some federal agencies and parastatals.

The dispute over appointments was partly responsible for the delay in the reconstitution of them boards. At the core of the dispute is a disagreement over names forwarded for consideration for appointments.

It was learnt that a committee set up by President Muhammadu Buhari to reconstitute the boards had been unable to conclude its assignment due in part to this dispute...

According to PUNCH, the battle had also pitted some party leaders at the state level and some ministers in the President Buhari’s cabinet.

Buhari had on July 16, 2015 approved the dissolution of the governing boards of the federal parastatals and agencies and institutions.

To fill the vacancies created by the dissolution, the President inaugurated the Presidential Committee on the Reconstitution of Governing Boards of Parastatals, Agencies and Commissions, last October.

The committee, which has party leaders drawn from the six geo-political zones, is chaired by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal.

It was further learnt that the Presidential Committee had agreed with the party leadership that each of the 36 state chapters should submit the names of 50 persons to be appointed.

PUNCH findings further revealed that in response some states had two separate lists as party leaders jostled to outdo one another to position their acolytes for favourable consideration.

This led to accusations and counter-accusations of favouritism against state party chairmen, governors as well as some leaders of the party.

A leading member of the party who spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of retribution said:

"The situation almost got out of hand. In the South-East for instance, apart from Ebonyi State, most of the other states are in crisis over this matter.

“We also had a situation where states like Lagos had two separate lists. There were also allegations that some of the state chairmen nominated their wives and cronies to the exclusion of people who really laboured for the party.

“As a party of change, we want things done differently some of those who were aggrieved used the back channels to make their feelings known and reach out to the President.”

President Buhari was said to have intervened into the matter by asking the party leadership to liaise with the SGF to look into the issues raised with a view to finding an amicable solution.

Prominent among states where such disputes exist include Enugu, Imo, Abia and Kaduna.

When contacted, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, said there all issues will be trashed and resolved in the interest of all

"You cannot talk of a delay when the committee was not given a deadline. Work is ongoing," he said.

The police in Dutsen Alhaji area in Abuja have arrested a 26-year-old man for allegedly r@ping a 22-year-old woman in an uncompleted church building on Saturday.

It was gathered that the victim met the suspect on the internet and engaged in a chat with him for two days before the incident. Our source said the suspect made several promises to his victim, who stays in Wuse, including providing her with accommodation and securing employment for her, offers that attracted her to him.

The source said the victim was, however, fooled when she finally came over to Dutsen-Alhaji to discover that none of the promises existed, but were mere strategy to lure her to where he eventually succeeded in r@ping her.

“The lady attempted to run away but could not as a result of threats by the suspect that some men had been positioned to go after her if she dared run,” the source added.

It was gathered that the victim quickly rushed back to her residence after the act and reported the incident to her friend, who assisted in tracking the suspect.

“She gave the suspect’s number to her friend and she lured him to meet her. It was during the romantic appointment that he was eventually arrested,” the source added.

It was further learnt that the suspect had confessed to have earlier had sex with two other women using the same pranks and according to the Dutse DPO, CSP Aisha Yusuf case has been transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

African music star, David Adedeji Adeleke popularly known as Davido (omo baba olowo), has signed a record deal with Sony Music Entertainment at its headquarters in New York City.

The deal makes the `Skelewu’ crooner the first African to enter into such deal with the international label.

According to a statement from Davido obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, the deal will help him to create, distribute and market his music at world class level.

He said the deal was executed by Nigerian-born American Music Executive, Efe Ogbeni (Grace, Red One), who is also a partner with Nicki Minaj on Parker Ighile‘s project.

Also, it was facilitated by Davido’s manager, Kamal Ajoboye, the brain behind the musician’s sophomore album, “The B.A.D.D.E.S.T.” pushed back in 2015.

NAN reports that details of the new deal was not made public, but the boss of the music label was Honorable Kings of New-school (HKN).

Davido, who is also the Black Entertainment Television (BET) Award winner, also took to his social media pages to celebrate the deal.

He said “thank you God!! I have worked hard all my life for this day! This is the day that the lord has made!!”.

“1st African Artist to sign a global record deal! my story is just starting!! My mother is smiling in Heaven right now.

“I’m going to make Africa proud! I s…r down,” he said.

Meanwhile, in celebration of his new deal, his colleagues, including Ice Prince, M.I, Phyno, Adekunle Gold, PatoranKing, Sina Rambo (Cousin) and fans took time to congratulate him on different social media platforms.

FORMER TRANSPORT MINISTER SENATOR IDRIS UMAR REFUTES SAHARA REPORTERS ALLEGATION OF PROPERTY OWNERSHIP AND HIDING IN DUBAI

The former Minister of Transport, Senator Idris Umar wishes to put on record that contrary to a report by Sahara Reporters online, he owns no property in Dubai and that he is not hiding there.

The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State has insisted that Governor Ayodele Fayose is one of Nigerians who own property in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates.

The governor had on Thursday declared that he had no house in Dubai, challenging anyone with information of any property linked to him to publish the details.

The governor, who also said he was ready to waive his immunity to be prosecuted if any house is linked to him in Dubai, said he was not a kind of person that would deny his assets.

But the APC in a statement by the state Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun, said Fayose’s denial
that he had no property in Dubai was an afterthought.

Olatunbosun said the party had raised the alarm many times in the last one year on the governor’s frequent trips to Dubai almost every month after receiving the state’s allocation from Abuja, noting that such trips could not be associated with any trade and investment agreement with the Middle-East country.

“We will rather believe in the official statement of the Government of UAE listing Fayose as a property owner than to believe Fayose who we all know is a pathological liar.

Only last December, we raised the alarm that Fayose for the umpteenth time again travelled to Dubai with about N250m Ekiti money when he fraudulently collected estacode for 10 aides who never travelled with him.

“It is the height of insensitivity and wickedness on the part of Governor Fayose, who daily deceives Ekiti workers that Ekiti State is broke, to loot the treasury and invest in property in Dubai.

“Not done, Fayose imposed heavy taxes on Ekiti masses thereby making life difficult for them while he currently owes Ekiti civil servants four months’ salaries even though he collects federal allocation to the state every month, yet he is owing pensioners five months’ arrears while he and his wife travel to Dubai almost interchangeably,” Olatunbosun said.
