Hi @MrsBee MrsBee: Good Day All,
We would be going to Ontario in March for short-landing. Please can you advise on how much we can achieve in 10 days. Apart from landing formalities, SIN, bank account opening, possibly write the DL test. VERY POSSIBLE I had a crazy idea of looking for a volunteer or job shadow opportunity for a week, but i think i am being overambitious. Madam abeg enjoy the weather for a week na!
We are also considering going across the border to Niagara falls/Bufallo NY during the weekend while we are there but my worry is how to return into Canada without a PR card. I heard people have achieved this when crossing in a PRIVATE vehicle, with your COPR. Personally, i do not think its worth the risk, but HECK "insert Ontario's Slogan"
Landed seniors , please help with your advise/suggestions. |

Oops! Deregistering in progress justwise: You registered few minutes ago just to say this? (Note: I have been in Windsor for just a month.) Windsor,ON is a border town to Detroit, MI (USA), and used to be a booming automotive town (car industry) before the financial meltdown. For now, the health sector is the only SURE thing (as it is almost everywhere). There are a lot of small businesses but nothing major like you might find in Toronto and Alberta. Inception12: Otherwise, any one here staying in Windsor ON. Am still doing research on the best places to stay once my PPR comes through and am trying to decide between alberta, ottawa and windsor. Any advice will be appreciated. Congrats @freeradical ... It can only get better. |

Landing Tori Got to MMA around 10am Tue 4th Dec. Carrier : Ethiopian Airways. Had 6 bags (check in) and 3 carry ons, 2 laptop bags. Home measured weights WRONG so we racked off extra 28kg which we had to 'settle' $100 for (the attendant said the rate $260 for 23kg) but the carry ons were ok once they were under 10kg. Our beloved immigration in Lagos have a way of separating the 'daddy' from the family to 'shake body'. I kept on telling them its not Christmas yet . Elderly people and families with kids were given preference to board first @ MMA and Addis Ababa. Wifi was poor as expected at ADD, but instagram, FB chat were enough to connect/update family on movt. Flight from Addis Ababa to Dublin (fuel stop and cabin crew change) then YYZ was smooth, food was ok except for the 'rice' monotony. Landed at YYZ on Dec 5 around 8.10am (wet and cold) Quite a lengthy walk to immigration, was asked for details indicated on the declaration form (given onboard) about food and how much i am bringing to Canada, and i responded telling them how much i had in cash over 10,000CAD, the lady says fine and doesnt bug me about the 'balance amount' for POF, she signs the COPRs and takes a copy. She asks about my Canadian address and phone no and briefs me about the waiting period for the PR and health card.
Next we proceed for SIN, then retrieve baggage (porters offer to help out at a price when you have bags larger than the size the smaller free trolleys can contain) before approaching Customs.
Lady asks if i have food, i say pepper only (last minute acquisition) and I tell her i have cargoed some food items. Then she asks for goods accompanying and to follow. She asks if i am a chef or something cos of the value indicated on food items in 'goods to follow', she records the serial nos of my laptops and IPad and gives me a small green card(proof i exported them ). She asks me to add a price of the laptops/iPad to that of 'goods accompanying'. She stamps/signs "goods to follow" sheet, taps her computer, opens a file with my docs and hands back my docs/passports to me and says 'WELCOME to Canada'. She escorts us to the exit door and wishes us well.
***Family is in Windsor with relatives. I'm exploring and getting OT at Toronto with a friend while i wait to receive my delayed cargo @ YYZ before i join them***

Congrats @damidamsel, it was a long wait but the outcome was worth it. Of course you can stop over at USA, provided you have a valid visa and your booked flight indicates so damidamsel: Thank you everyone for the congratulatory messages. Ire a kari ooo....
So i am back to tell my story after thanking God in church
Sorry it's gonna be a long read.......
Began journey in 2014....sent in package late from US and it arrived Canada last day of FSW in December so it was returned untouched . Put in application in 2015 but got no ITA till it expired a year later. Like play like play, my friend and i decided to give it a try again and got serious with it. Had to retake IELTS in Jan 2017 as the previous one had expired. Had a CLB 9 ITA sometime in March but FBI PCC no gree me submit till May 21 Application went thus.... - Used old reference letters from 2014 in addition to one i got for my last job that ended in 2015 - Current work is a self-employed job so I included intro letter with company letterhead, invoices for jobs done, letter from client attesting to work done, tax receipt and clearance, TIN number, company's 6 months bank statement and bank letter - Hubby transferred 100% of the POF to my personal account and did a deed of gift. I included the 6months statement and letter from bank (No statement from hubby) - My husband had had more than one US visa refusal and we both have 2 UK refusals among others but i stated only one each out of ignorance and did not fill Schedule A but included copies of refusal letters i could find and didn't bother about the ones i could not find - I uploaded 2 of my reference letters in the wrong placeholder - I forgot to include letters of non- indebtedness from banks . . Amongst others...
Med passed on June 29 and application Document review changed to "We do not need Additional Documents" IP1 on June 30
Requested first gcms note one month after AOR where i saw on the notes that REVIEW REQUIRED based on statutory questions answered....this was where i realized that the canada visa refusal i stated for hubby was not his first and thus his file showed he had once applied before that - I raised a CSE to state that i had forgotten about the first application - I later raised another CSE to upload letters of non-indebtedness and to state corrections about letters uploaded in the wrong placeholder - I raised another CSE explaining that I did not know I had to state all visa refusals even if they were from the same country. I then listed them out one after the other
I requested another gcms note a month later where i saw the note stating that i had mixed up my IELTS scores - I quickly recalculated my CRS score using the correct mix and saw that I still had the same CRS score - I raised a CSE stating the error, correcting it and resubmitted a copy of my IELTS result
File was transferred to LVO on Aug 15 Requested another gcms note in October only to find out my file was never touched since FTD Emailed LVO on Nov 15 and was told my application was awaiting review
Emailed again on Nov 20 that my application was 6months (though less 1 day). Got response that it was in process Emailed again on 22nd and CC'd Ottawa. Emailed Ottawa on 23rd and checked my CIC account one hour later only to see i had moved to IP2 after 5months ( Skipped NA) GOT PPR ONE HOUR LATER
In all, no single ADR....
Baba God did it!!!
Please can one stopover in USA before heading to Canada? |

Excellento!!! Congrats Madame @XX01 XX01: Back to more important things.
I received the golden mail this morning. It is PPR people! God has just been so faithful. Wrote to them yesterday evening Nigerian time and they responded that it was in Ottawa and hasn't been finalized yet. Only to wake up to the golden mail this morning. Don't know if they work over night in the Ottawa office.
19days from AOR to PPR. It can only be God. I put the barest minimum I could put (apart from the bank reference letters). Didn't provide a single bank statement. Didn't include payslips and appointment letters. Had plenty travel history for both my husband and I. I had nearly all my funds in my husband's account. God just covered over any mistakes as none were intentional.
AOR=11th sept. MEDP= 21st sept. IP1 = 22nd sept. NA2 = 27th Sept IP2 = 29th sept. PPR = 30th sept.
Will send my passports once I return to my house next week. |

Why not call them on 012700908 to confirm the rates. Their contact centre is cool and their response time is quick.
The rate changes almost everyday. The contact centre would provide you with today's rate and also advise you on the best location to go based on where you stay. |
