We need Regionalism. Like 10 Regions. FG will only handle Military/Defence, Foreign Affairs, Currency/Central Bank, Immigration, Federal Airports/Sea ports and Interstate/Federal crime. And a few other things to remain on the exclusive list.

No more emperor-like power in Aso Rock.

Welfare, Health, Education, Agriculture, Employment, Law enforcement/police, and infrastructure should go to Regions and Counties/Local Governments/Districts.
Regions keep 50% of resources, localities/districts keep 25%, and 25% goes to the FG. Regions with high IGR and/or resources can provide a discretionary 2.5 to 5% of income (depending on ability) to a Central Solidarity Fund, to potentially bail out struggling Regions for the first 10 years.

Each Region will have their own constitution and Parliament. No more governors or states.

Each region's spending/budget will be audited by Singaporean or Canadian firms annually. Stiff punishment by an anti-corruption organisation headed by Australians or New Zealanders. No mercy or crying nepotism, and no political enemies to blame.

Not sometimes but civil servants are the real corrupt people in Nigeria and they are the people who train the politicians on their corrupt practices. When a politician is appointed and does not want to follow their already established corrupt templates they frustrate him or her and force them out or make sure their policies don't work.

And the next set of corrupt people in Nigeria are the journalists and their media stations who fail to drill the politicians when the come to their stations because they are concerned about what they want to collect from those politicians no follow up questions no investigation just asking them leading questions and helping them to lie on national TV or report their lues in neswpapers

If we want to get rid of corruption in nigeria then all civil servants should be retrenched and a new set employed.

Murtala Mohammed kicked out thousands of civil servants (many educated abroad and recruited into colonial service), allegedly for corruption. Sadly, those who replaced them, mostly educated locally, were far more corrupt. They mentored the corrupt lot we have today.

Murtala also planned to demobilise around 100, 000 soldiers if not for his assassination. People often forget the role that imminent demobilisation played in his assassination. The Biafra war had swollen the Nigerian military. Had he lived to kick out the soldiers, our military would have got far worse much earlier, like the civil service.

Without the Malaysian, Singaporean and Chinese approach to fighting corruption, corruption will finish 9ja pata pata.

To begin with, I have never benefited from 9ja in decades, so saying "you guys" is you making assumptions.

But compare the living standards of 50k randomly picked teachers and nurses in the UK, Canada and Australia with the same in Nigeria.

I have lived in several of those countries and 9ja.

Just because we've paid the subsidy for 50 years doesn't mean you need to remove it hastily or chaotically, with very little thought gone into it.

I disagree with Atiku on this, he got it wrong this time. The main issue is not the subsidy removal but the floating of the naira. If the subsidy was removed but the naira was still maintained at N300 to N500, I don’t think fuel would have exceeded N300 per liter. I will write more comprehensive analysis on this later.

Even countries with high wages subsidise various things: transportation, agriculture (to keep food prices affordable), education, child benefits, etc. And still pay decent welfare benefits to those on lower incomes or unemployed.

If the economy grows strong, imports reduce, and employment increases, income taxes will rise to support the Naira to be strong. Then, at the right time, the Naira can be floated. You also do not instantly remove the petrol subsidy in tandem.

Both can be done, but the timing was wrong. Neither should have been done on Day 1 in office.
