Have been going through roller coaster of thoughts since yesterday, don't even know which one to go for as both has its own advantage.

Got an opportunity to learn both but the offer came at the same time with clauses attached to them. As a new graduate, done with NYSC, and currently unemployed, I thought developing my skills in digital or IT world would help me to acquire a skill and integrate that to making money or adding it to my Skills on my Resume.

But

Here are the clauses for both

Affiliate Marketing:

I'll have to travel down to Ibadan because I reside in Ilorin, Kwara State. Staying with someone I don't know how he lives, what he eat, and how convenient I will be in the environment.

But

My dad doesn't want me to go due to insecurities and me staying with someone he had no idea of. Buh if I'm able to learn the affiliate marketing which deals with freelancing on fiverr doing Shopify stores and promotion etc, I might be able to make money luckily if I got order.

Programming:

A friend of mine which him too is learning but had wide knowledge about it, also had a friend which is already Pro and making big on programming on developing sites for big companies, in which I planned of acquiring knowledge from them both depending on how I catch fast.

This would help me in getting myself to the IT world and I can include the experience and skill when developing my resume, I can apply to tech companies because I had a skill in programming. I heard learning Programming takes a long way and months but since I'm unemployed and staying in my parent's house, I think it can work for me.

But

I won't have any money to cater for most of my urgent needs, gon' depend on my elder ones and parent.


Please house, I need your input, assuming you were the one, which would you go for please... I'm lost in thought biko

To get remote job, you need the following:

1) A skill: what service(s) can you offer?
Example: graphic design, web design/development, UI/UX design, 3D-animation, social media management, data entry, lead generation, copy/content writing, proof reading/editing, transcription, appointment setting, Admin Assistantetc...there are so many services you can render.

If you don't have any skill, I'll advise you to choose one based on your interest & the need for it in the market and learn it.


2) A Laptop: the type you should get depends on the skill...if you're into programming or 3d animation, & maybe graphic design you need a higher grade laptop than if you're into writing.

3)High speed Internet: You can buy a modem, use wifi, etc whatever works for you.

4) Dedicated work space in your home/room: basically comfortable table & chair, so you don't develop back pain.

After getting all these things, you can then do the following:

5) Sign up to Freelance Marketplaces such as Upwork, Fiverr, People Per Hour, Freelancer...there are so many of them.

6) You can focus on any two of these...set up your profile and optimize.
And be truthful while at it...if you're from Nigeria, state that as your Country and use your real name...

7) Start sending proposals on these platforms everyday...send as many as you can, it's a game of numbers.

It won't be easy initially because you're just starting out, but if you're consistent you will get clients.

And most times, if you do a great job for them, they will keep coming back to patronize you...some may even beg ask you to become a permanent team member and offer you a salary.

Also on some of these platforms, you'll see some agencies or businesses advertising for positions... if you apply and get the job, you don get guaranteed long term remote job be that.

7) For payment: Most of these marketplaces have escrow services, which means your client pays money to them, they take their share and give you the rest...you can link your local bank account to receive your funds.
You can open a Payoneer account, you can open a domiciliary account etc...there are so many you can get your money.

Finally, anyone can do remote work... it's not for a special group of people.

Just set your mind on it, and gradually it will start falling into place.

lol ... I'm a full time freelancer and I know exactly what comes out of it. What I earn in a month would take some persons 10 months to earn it. Seek for light....I will advise u to join this group "Zero to $5k in a month" on telegram. Don't ask me to prove anything because I got nothing to prove to u. It's left for you to believe. I was a beneficiary of that thread on nairaland since 2017 till date. Funny enough some persons never took that thread seriously. It is also d same way someone made a video of how he sold an old man photograph through NFT and made almost a million, thousands of youth saw that video but would never Google what is NFT but would rather prefer to earn 50-100k in a month.... Some persons come here for tribal war, some for business, some for news, some to waste their time, some to discuss IPOB, and some to learn. Since I came across that platform my life has never been d same. I was earning 40k as at when I came across that thread in 2017, but trust me I don't think that amount can even cover my expenses in a month currently. For u to earn as a freelancer, u must have something to offer. There are several ways u could earn through freelancing. If u are not earning then u re not getting something right. Don't ask me to show u d way because I simply don't have d time cos of series of work to attend to, there are tons of thread on that already on nairaland, YouTube, couple with d group I have ask u to join on telegram where u could get free materials and mentorship. There's copywriting: you can leverage from platforms like Upwork, Fiverr
You can write project works, seminar papers for people and get paid
There's affiliate marketing: here you simply sell a product/service for a company in return for a commission
You can create and sell digital products (how to books)
