Nothing misleads more than trailers of movies.

I wonder how someone that knows his onions will go ahead to download such a useless movie despite its abysmal rating.
It boggles the mind.

This reminds me of when someone set out to watch Corona Zombies, and later, had the gumption to moan about the absurd plot.

A simple google search would have saved him the trouble, heck, the ridiculous name is sufficient to forewarn a reasonable person.

Apologies. I actually thought that you made a mistake mentioning the TV series.

Anyhow, the TV series plot is still similar to the movie and still different from The Other Guys.

The Other Guys was a hit.
If you've watched all the seasons of 21 Jump Street, odds are you'll agree with me.

It's a rip-off, and not even a good one.
TV/MoviesRe: What Movie Did You Watch Today? by DandeNumereuno: 12:59pm On Jun 09, 2020
whitelotus:
The Other Guys came out before 21 Jump street, and so, how can it be a rip-off of 21 Jump Street?

Secondly, the plot of the two movies are not the same. They are both cop movies but they have different plots.

This is the problem of not watching films during their zeitgeist

Who is the poser now?
I explicitly included "TV series" alongside 21 Jump street, after someone quoted me out of context yesterday, in order to forestall more misunderstanding. Yet here you are, committing similar errors. Did you by any chance read everything before you rushed to compose this babble?

The Other Guys is a rip-off off 21 Jump Street, a TV series. It's a personal opinion, mind you, so don't take it as a gospel truth.

Lastly, I wasn't alluding to the movie adaptation of 21 Jump Street, albeit implied that it's lead actors are better comedians than the leads in The Other Guys.

Bad Lieutenant Port of Call: New Orleans...Rewatch.

I love this movie for the way it takes conventional situations, and throws them completely out of the window. Great film.

That one was with Johnny Depp now not Tatum and Hill
You completely misunderstood me.

When I said I'd take Tatum and Jonah Hill over the The Other Guys, I merely implied the humour in the movie adaptation of 21 Jump Street was better, kapish?

Learn to read between the lines.

The other guys 2010
21 jump Street 2012

You can't call it a rip off bro
I was referring to the TV series.

I should have been more specific.
TV/MoviesRe: What Movie Did You Watch Today? by DandeNumereuno:
The Other Guys

This is a bad rip-off of 21 Jump Street (TV series), but it's still pretty funny. Will Farrell does his best as an uptight forensic-accountant, but he is simply miscast, and that's the heart of the film's problem. Mark Wahlberg is fine, Michael Keaton gets a few laughs, and Steve Coogan isn't completely wasted.

I'll take Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill over this anytime though.

Chinatown (1974)

Got hooked from the get-go, and felt compelled by every aspect of it.

The direction, score, cinematography... I've no complaints.

This is a flawless movie in every aspect., and that ending will haunt me for a while.

One of the best movies i saw last year. The dialogues and script delivery from Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver was absolute top notch. In the end i couldn't apportion blame to either of them, i just put it down to two people at the start of what they thought will be a stellar career for but somewhat trapped in a "young " marriage, and now both are now reflecting on what would have been and the marriage thing has peaked both careers with each thinking the other has hindered their career progress....there was definitely love, but most times love is not enough.

There was this scene when Scarlett goes to see Adam and things erupt and she compares him to his father...that scene was my best in the entire movie, the tone, dialogue and delivery was in one accord.
You've said it all.

The argument scene almost made me tear up, like I think the ending was too rushed, but the rest of it was perfect.

Marriage Story (2019)

It's easy to dismiss family dramas on the grounds that there are just too many subpar dramas produced these days, but Marriage Story is excellent, and masterfully portrays a tough, complicated, and sad, yet optimistic tale.

It's a masterfully done family drama with amazing writing and overall performances. The film maintains a fairly good objective view of the two leads, while letting the viewers make their own conclusions.

The Boy's Life (1993)

Young Leo DiCaprio impressed. De Niro makes for such a punchable, contemptuous character as his abusive step-dad. As intense as it is, this film tends to the ramifications, and consequences of dealing with an abusive figure both as a child and as a spouse.

In conclusion, it's a film you appreciate watching, but not one you're going to rewatch very often.

Scarface (1983)...Rewatch

It's the embodiment of the '80s; the fashion, music, style... It doesn't have a profound message, I couldn't relate, nor empathize with any of the characters, but it's very engaging... it's incredible for what it is.

Al Pacino liquefies into the role, and turns into an over-the-top Cuban gangster, which creates the humour. It has amazing music and cinematography, and some incredible supporting cast as well.

All things considered, it's a masterpiece.

You got it wrong.

At a particular point in the movie, reality dawned on him that he had already killed his wife killer and he only put Teddy's name as a payback at that point.
Lenny mistakenly killed his wife, and his brain in order to cope with the trauma, invented a phantom killer.

Lenny dedicated his life hunting someone that doesn't exist (thanks to his brain/
mind lying to him), but along the way, he got used by people that knew about his
medical condition for their own selfish gain. Teddy played a dangerous game, and ultimately, paid the price; never fvck with a man with a mental illness.

This is my own interpretation.
TV/MoviesRe: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by DandeNumereuno: 8:17pm On Jun 02, 2020
alexistaiwo:
The plot is actually quite simple and straightforward.

The beginning is the end and the end is the beginning.

The protagonist was being used to kill targets so after realising it, he flipped the script and killed the guy using him to do the dirty jobs.
A little correction...

Lenny murdered Teddy not on the grounds that it dawned on him that he's been yanked around, but because he warned himself through notes scribbled across his body that Teddy isn't trustworthy, and ought to be executed. He's a survivor above all else, and I imagine, will keep on surviving, short-term memory or not.

The film culminated with him still on a mission to find his wife's phantom killer.

Good point. The Godfather I & II are my favourite pictures, still, I'd say Goodfellas is a better mob film any day.
I'd pick Scarface over The Godfather I & II myself.

My top 3 mob films;

1. Goodfellas...

2. Scarface...

3. Casino...

Old reddit is not mobile friendly either.

Just even look at your screenshots (the second one). The texts are too small because it was optimised for desktop. One has to keep zooming and zooming.
You don't have the foggiest idea of what you're saying, bruv.

The first screenshot is Chrome optimised for mobile browsing. As should be obvious from the pic, the fonts are large, and easy to read. No zooming required.

The second screenshot is Dolphin browser in a desktop mode. The fonts are tiny, and require the user to zoom in order to grasp the headlines.

Old reddit is very mobile friendly. It depends on your browser, & browser settings.

Below is dolphin browser in a desktop mode, and mobile mode.

Goodfellas (1990)... Rewatch

Arguably the most practical/realistic mafia film, imho, since it shows the mafiosi for what they truly are, without attempting to make them more sympathetic to the viewers.

Is it me or is just that series coming out this year is boring mediocre or just manageable
What you may see as exhausting is satisfying to someone else.

Mrs America, Devs, The Outsider, Tiger King, and, Rise of Empires: Ottoman, have all been strong debutants, imho.
