The SEVENTH Step Of Becoming A Badass Copywriter

I'll share this seventh step with you, but ensure you read the last six steps on my wall

So let's go in...

The seventh step is "PRICING"

Your price or slash price should be equivalent to the value worth of your offer without compromising

However, the price of running training for the number of students should be different from what you charge clients

In this article, I want to focus on YOU and your client

Let me use this illustration by Andy Mukolo

Client: "I love this. So how much do you charge? And how can we get started?"

Now, as a salesman, don't lose control here except you want to be underpaid

Also, don't give the Client power.

Make sure you control the negotiations

Do not say:

What is your budget for this?

How much are you willing to pay?

I normally charge $15, but because you pay $10

Very naive.

Wrong questions at the wrong time.

Here are the right words to say:

For projects like these, I charge a flat fee of $100

Then watch the Client reaction and do everything in your power to justify your rates.

How do you do this?

By painting a realistic picture of the Client's desired outcome.

Eg. More profits, more customers, more engagements...

You may hear something like

Client: You are good at what you do, but can I get a discount? Because We are going to do more projects after this one

Listen

At this point,

The Client wants to know if you will succumb or not.

You can, if you want to.

But It is usually better to hold your ground.

While consistently hammering on how you will help the client get her desired results

And remember, You're not selling a service

You're selling the desired outcome

You want to help her.

If the client wants to walk away, let her go, if she knows the value worth, after hours/days she will come back

Now, If she has resolved to finally work with you,

Let her pay 50% - 70% upfront before you lay hands on the project

And give her a money-back guarantee

Anything other than that, you might be at the receiving end

From my experience though.

Remember this article focus on YOU and your client

The pricing is different from running training

Training is a game of number, you can place any price on it, once it reaches your goal. That's all.

Note: There is another aspect of PRICING, especially when client request you to send your QUOTATION,

Please don't make the mistake of typing your pricing on WhatsApp...

After your video call with client, in your proposal, structure your QUOTATION very well and highlights every services you'll be offering the client for the timeframe (it could be 1-3 months)

I advise you prepare your quotation in a PDF format and send it to her.

I'll share the sixth step with you,

But first,

Ensure you go through the last five steps on my wall,

So today, I'll be focusing on the sixth step

Let's dive in

The sixth step is "Be A Researcher"

As a Copywriter, ensure you research anything you want to promote

Do not assume you know everything about the product, webinar, service...

Assumption can be costly

If you don't conduct research, your copy can be too simple,

And the worst part?

People might be too familiar with everything you are writing and so...

Nothing may move them, and if nothing moves them...

That means your copy won't convert... Chaiiii

So I encourage you to conduct research, and while conducting research,

Look for the pain points

For example, check reviews, comment boxes...

Note the customer's complaints, they are OBJECTIONS, then turn it into a FAQ on your landing page

Or address those objections in your copy

In that same reviews or comment boxes, you will see good comments about the product...

You will just use those good reviews/comments to generate ideas of BENEFITS people stand to gain in what you're promoting

Please read this post again.✅

For effective research,

Search your keywords about your product/services on Google, Reddit, Quora, Amazon, YouTube, Pinterest, ...

And you can also join groups of your niche on Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram...), check the comment section.

One more thing,

Check sponsored ads that have many engagements, and note their comments

If you can do your thorough research, writing becomes easier.

So today, I'll be focusing on the fifth step

Let's get into the meat side of the matter.

The fifth step is "Know How To Sell Yourself (The Right Way)"

After you have gained mastery in this thing of ours,

The next thing is for you to start selling yourself (the right way)

Start by re-introducing yourself to your audience,

Let them feel you...

Create a bank of VALUE, and share those values with them...

As in, this time, add MORE value to them

Modalities to do this:

�You can run more free training to reach a larger audience, request testimonials and get their contacts

�Content Marketing is another secret you need where 90% of your messages are tied to marketing

Any experience you share should have a way you LINK it to marketing

As you work with a client, share it

Your experience with that client, share it

How you provide solutions, share it

How you land the client, share it

How you put systems in place to deliver within the time frame, share it

Share! Share!! Share!!!

Dear reader, go and start selling yourself

Eyes are watching you... (Especially if you belong to many relevant platforms)

Search for keywords in your niche and join those groups on the Media, Also, join nairaland, medium, Reddit, Quora, etc.

If you sell yourself (the right way), the Law Of Attraction will draw the right prospects to you.

So today, I'll be focusing on the fourth step

Quickly,

The fourth step is "Practice Your Crafts"

Writing skill requires you to practice more...

Place priority in writing IF truly you want to write to earn BIG...

Big league clients don't pay for amateurish sales letters, ad copy, website copy, email newsletter, ...

Improve your crafting...

How do you improve?

- Cultivate the habit of writing daily for your audience

- Be a great thinker and generate ideas from books, blog posts, experiences, memorial events...

- Always see how to draw lessons from what happens around you.

- You can hand copy great emails and landing page copies for study purposes.

NOT for plagiarism, please...

Is that understood?

Good.

When you're hand-coping great copies,

Study their style of writing, where they put three dots(...), where they apply punctuation marks, where they open loops and how they close it, check how they leave breathing space in their copy.

And lots more!

You will improve if you do all these things...

And remember when your crafting style improves, your chance to charge high also increases.

The THIRD Step Of Becoming A Badass Copywriter

This is the third series, you can check previous posts on my wall where I wrote about these two steps titled; "Understanding Human Behaviour" AND "Shorten Your Learning Curve"

So today, I'll be focusing on the third step

Straight to the point...

The third step is "Continuously Be As A Student Of Copywriting"✅

As a student of copywriting, you will be open to learning,

You will be SO CURIOUS to see what other competitors are doing. Just like what Matt Bockenstette (co-founder of Copy Legend) did sometimes...

He asked his subscribers to mention names of other badass copywriters... the secret here is...

He wants to KNOW MORE about his competitors (to still CHECK what they are doing DIFFERENTLY)

A student of copywriting will keep learning even if he has ten (10) years of experience in this business.

I recommend you include "Educational Budget" in your budget next year.

Or better still, develop a desire to get more training, books... In this field

Men like MK Akan, Emmanuel Akpe, Ortega Ogomigo, Andy Mukolo... Has bought some books, courses... they've invested in themselves heavily...

This year alone, I have read about 30 books in Copywriting and other related books in business like Traffic, Social Media...

PLUS...

Other training I've signed up for (From three badass Copywriters) ✅

Even when I've already been delivering works for clients both home and abroad.

Even when I have already been touching lives with this thing...

Still, I step up...

See, don't be too conscious about the investment fee...

It is a PRICE you need to pay to get the PRIZE

Every badass does that...

If you don't have money to invest now, that's okay.

You can get free videos on YouTube, get the following books:

- Advertising Secrets Of The Written Word - Joe Sugarman

- Breakthrough Advertising - Eugene Schwartz

- The Boron Letters - Gary Halbert

- Scientific Advertising - Claude Hopkins

Other books could help.

Example: Sell like crazy by Sabri Subi, Dotcom Secrets by Russell Brunson,

Etc.

Fellow readers, I want to assure you, if you can be SO CURIOUS to know more about this thing of ours...

And you can implement ruthlessly... (Especially if you can devote at least 1 - 3 hours daily)

You too will soon become a badass copywriter!

And I hope you know the advantages the badass has over the amateurs, you know how money flows to their side...?

Maybe you can still do some background checks.

As I close this third series,

I'm assuring you that IF you can remain as a 'Student of Copywriting' AND implement ruthlessly, you too will be getting MORE RESULTS than your current level.

The SECOND Step To Become A Badass Copywriter

If you are just coming across this series, you can check yesterday's post on my wall where I wrote about the first step which is "Understanding Human Behaviour"

So today, I'll be focusing on the second step

Before that, be reminded that the key factor of this series is the process of becoming a badass copywriter (NOT a newbie)

That been said,

As a copywriter who has been getting results here and there,

Possibly the results from your first decision of investing in copywriting with N1K - N5k has been gradual (Not massive)

And you want to move to the point of becoming a well-paid copywriter...

The second step is...

"Shorten Your Learning Curve" especially from an expert who already knows the road,

I mean, an expert who has already been getting that results you want...

I mean, an expert whose level of his crafting is amazing and highly converting

To shorten your learning curve means you want to stop figuring things out yourself with basic information

It means, now you are ready to crack the codes so that you can SCALE-UP FASTER

It means you want to move from writing 1,000 words of $5 to ($50-$150...)

You want to move from working with broke clients who usually miss their payment dates to clients that pay about 70% upfront and after your work, you are paid the remaining balance and leaving you with a good review/testimonial.

Now, do you want to move to this point? If YES,

Just know that as good as the results are, so the enrollment fee for these scale-up programs are not like $15... Usually, it is around $100 at a slashed price

I know of two programs in this category (By Traffic & Funnel Guys - Chris Evans & Taylor Welch and Andy Mukolo)

You can do some background checks to find out.

But truth be told, you need to get the RIGHT INFORMATION to scale up on time

To avoid missing a lot of gigs because of some mistakes in pricing, copy, sales closing, ... and others

If you shorten your learning curve,

You will stop guess work with your service delivery because your copies must have been thoroughly reviewed by expert (especially if you are a member of his PREMIUM PROGRAM)

This thing gives you SPEED

It makes you scale up QUICKLY

And it will place you at the top in this thing of ours.

The first thing is not marathon writing of copies

Not even using artificial intelligence tools...

Many copywriters don't even pay close attention to this FIRST step of becoming a badass copywriter...

What's that first step?

Guess...

Okay.

�The First Step Is "Understanding The Raw Truth About Human Behaviour"✅

As in, who your target audience really are...

What makes them click on that link ✔️

What drives them...

What makes them spend their money...

Until you understand how they feel, think..., you may still remain amateur in copywriting.

Here Are The Simple Steps To Understand Human Behaviour

⚡ Travel to their brain/mind... Take note of how they talk, write the exact word they are speaking. And convert those words to solutions

Words like, "cut small soap for me"

"Sappa they catch me"...

Turn those words around and offer them solutions.

Recommend your training as a solution for them.

Another thing is...

⚡Use Emotional trigger words to pitch your service. Also, pitch to their five sense organs.

Use these emotional words - sexier, nicer, stress-free, tasteful, tried, tested and proven, quicker and faster than the old style, delicious and healthy, high quality with iron-clad guarantee.

And lots more...

The more you hit their emotions, the better response you will get from them.

Emotional words are so powerful because that's what move men to make a buying decision

Understanding human behaviour is the DARK TRUTH of becoming a badass copywriter.

To every entrepreneurs and aspiring writers who have been so curious to know the nitty gritty of the art of copywriting

Below are the answers in response to your curiosity on copywriting

You should be able to imagine things and see every situation from the right perspective. Look for how you can craft content from happenings around you, in movies, music, books, events...

You should be ready to put your thoughts into writing, share your experience and discoveries which you must LINK TO MARKETING.

Be consistent with writing; do not bother if it takes you hours, just be consistent.

Have a STRONG reason for wanting to be a copywriter and let that strong reason drive you always.

When your post does not get engagement despite the hours you spent writing it, do not be discouraged, it happens at times.

Ensure you write meaningful scripts that will attract the right audience.

Listen to this:

A lot of people will criticise you, but the truth is that some of them can not do what you are doing.

So why can't you continue for goodness sake?

How do I gain mastery?

READ and LEARN from the best:

Read: John Carlton, David Ogilvy, Joseph Sugarman, Bob Bly, Gary Halbert, Andy Mukolo, Emmanuel Akpe, Ortega Ogomigo's books. And other relevant materials

Beyond that, YOU WILL HAVE TO COMMIT YOUR TIME AND RESOURCES to making your journey faster.

It does not stop there.

Continue to implement what you discovered in that encounter.

Familiarise yourself with emails. Open emails that are based on marketing and read. But don't just read, take time to study the pattern of their writing and model (without plagiarism please).

Have a handy note or create a personal WhatsApp/Telegram group and name it "sales copy" where you practise your writing skill.

Let me paraphrase the thoughts of Joe Cassandra to further establish what I am saying (between two or three persons, the truth is established).

Pick up a pen.

For every new piece of copy, start with a brain dump. Look at the product or service, describe the benefits, state what the customer feels when using it, WHY should they buy it.

A secret?

Write down every reason a customer will say "NO" and in your writing, subtly answer those questions.

This is the brain dump process. You aren't editing. All ideas are "good" at this point.

Next...

Step away. You need time for your brain to organize thoughts. Go read, go walk, go play... Anything but thinking about what is written. It is called the INCUBATION PERIOD.

You will find out that as you take a shower or walk, an idea may hit you that will connect different ideas.

You then jump out of the shower (or the bed) and go write some more. Here, you are still not editing your content, but developing your flow.

Write your Headline.

This is the most important piece.

Have you ever caught yourself flipping through a magazine and realize you have skipped most of it? Sure.

Want to know the reason?

The headlines did not GRAB your attention. They did not reach out of the page to catch your attention and tell your brain, "Hey, this is interesting."

You will have this same issue unless you develop a grabbing headline.

So, create a promising headline but ensure you fulfil the promise (do not tell lies about your headline) so, with your promising headlines, it will catch the attention of people and they will consume it very fast.

Use stories, and stress the benefits in your copy plus irresistible offers.

Also, include a suitable Call To Action.

EDIT

Edit everything. Take out words. Replace words with ones that have deeper emotions.

Trim the fat. Read everything out loud and hear how it sounds. Normally, you will find awkward phrases, weird sounding words, etc.

Mastering?

You become a Master when you understand how to do all these and perfect them over time.

Soon, your writing gets better. Ideas come faster. Your hourly rate goes soaring.

Mastering is simply taking something (much like a shooting movement in basketball) and repeating it until you know how to do it very well.


You must love to write (and edit).

Start with brain dump of every ideas in your head.

Stretch your mind. Soon, more ideas will come all the time.

Incubate all the time. (looks like you are not working, but your brain is. Endure the taunting comments from the non-creatives).

Put ideas in action. Make each sentence compelling enough so they will want to read the next one.
