LiteratureRe: We Need To Write And Publish More Books In Nigeria by danielorde(m): 12:45am On Aug 25, 2006
I suspect that there is dearth of skilled writers, I do not mean people who went to school to learn literature writing - something like that. Secondly, I don't know if upcoming writers have searched our mentors in the oldrer writers so as to learn the skill and the approach to writing what will be beneficial to the target audience whatvever the target is.

One thing is sure, there exist a large market for would be writers. As much as there is market for those that enjoy reading gossip, I dare say there is even a larger market for those who want stuff that have developmental impact on the human mind which will reflect in the quality of our society.
Rap BattlesRe: Photo Comics by danielorde(m): 8:48pm On Aug 24, 2006
Question: How do we encourage reading? What can be done to stimulate reading materials that build the mind not just anything?

I have nursed a fear for sometime now - The Media especially TV and Radio have a strong effect on us and they shape our lives not necessarily the way we want. Though they provide relevant information it is a little percentage and before you get good stuff you would have watched anf listened to a lot crap. Meaning you mind would have had to feed junk before getting stuff. With reading at least I get a chance to choose the bookstore, the author and the title among other things. This gives me ability to choose carefully.

Except we find a way of returning to reading books in my opinion we are doomed- the next generation especially.
CareerRe: Can Salary Earning Fetch You Your Dream Status And Properties? by danielorde(m): 9:14pm On Aug 08, 2006
Offcourse, it can! But when would that be? How would it be? And What will the dream status be? These questions are same for both Employees and Employers. If one can run his life like an enterprise focusing on increasing profits year and year out. Then I believ you are on your way to financial freedom.

This means you'd always look for investing oppurtunites, bot short term and long term. You'd be willing to take risk with you money at time. And you'd be able to trade your skills when you are off your day job. Forexample if you are good at speaking find a market for you skill. Even the accountants, there are many up starts that need to have thier accounts managed though they cannot afford an accounts.

The trick is, what is it you have. We are all meant to be enterpreneurs but not necessarily Employers of Labour. An entrepreneur is a person who is able to find creative new ways of doing what is been done and uses it to a maximu advatage. This most of the time translates to income.
ComputersRe: Recommendations: Buying A New Laptop by danielorde(m): 6:49am On Aug 01, 2006
I currently use an HP Compaq nc6120, been using for over a year, I have not had a case of lost data, I have had to format the box a couple of time though because I got hacked on the web (this is a software level issue not hardware). It has all I want, Centrino Chip. Wireless connetivity, blue tooth, Infrared, 15" tft monitor amongst others.

I recommend hp any day any time any where, Dell is useless, it does not even come with OS installtion Cds, so if I got problems , I am Fried.

HP = Horse Power = work horse.

BusinessRe: Starting A Community Newspaper by danielorde(m): 8:44pm On Jul 07, 2006
well, why not make the community Newspaper free? It is a challenge but this means you can grow your audience step at a time.

The challenges are content, Printing, since it is a periodical how often shall this be produce, target audience.

Income sources, Advertorials - Business available in the community, and products that are counsumed in the neighbourhood etc

Spin offs - Data gathering etc

I'm interested in partnering you on this cos I have had the idea for a while but I have not been able to free up time to do it.

Cheers.

Music/RadioRe: Are Nigerian Musicians Really Good? by danielorde(m): 5:13pm On Jul 02, 2006
For real Nigeria Music for me is still coming up, If we look at where we have been (Pretty and Junior, Daddy Showkey etc) and where we are (2 face, P squared, Dare Art-Alade, Mode 9 etc), there has been a great improvement. What is really cool is that we all now appreciate our own stuff, but I hope we will appreciate soon enough more than stuff from the West.

I wish our promotion will get better and packaging too can improve, some videos make one sick, some lyrics are just whack, and some artisit make you wanna puke. Thanks to guys like Global sounds, Sound city and good produces like Storm Records. Vibe Downloads in my opinion is whack, their work on Styl plus was worse than what Styl plus records did themselves. I am still watching though

Hey though it has been a while, what do you think of the HipHop world awards that took place earlier in the year.

BusinessRe: What Business Can I Start With 4,000 Naira? by danielorde(m): 12:28am On Jun 30, 2006
In support of Leke, really it is nont the money that counts it is the ideas running thru your head. I worked as a freelance Network Administrator for a while before focusing on my exams. And really, I started with no money. I'll be finishing my exams in a few weeks, I will definitely go back.

It is not the cash, it is the ideas and the skills to implement them. Infact I dare say you dont need skills, find who will pay for what you have in mind and find someone who will do the job. Take you share of the profit. Pay off whoever does the job and everyone will be happy.
BusinessRe: Ideas For Starting A Nigerian Business With $1-5 Million by danielorde(m): 12:15am On Jun 30, 2006
Well, considering that Nigerians have many issues to resolve as we progress on the path to true self sustainability. One such Ideas are not going to bring income right away, but if you get it right, You'll go to Bed smiling. I dare say there will be no storms except a crazy goverment policy shows its ugly face, infact most of the people in Power are investing in some of the underlisted.

1. Food (it could be as basic as farming, or repackaging of food or even distribution - It costs quite an amount to get Yam tubers from the North to the south)

2. Clothing - this one you gotta wait small sha, policies no favour am

3. Education - Start a reputable Primary or secondary school.

4. Transportation

For me, Number still is my favorite, People must just eat! for example as of 2004/2005 Cassava was more expensive in Nigeria than in the internation market, there is not enough to go round yet as very affordable price. According to the minister for agriculture, Nigeria still need a few hundred miilion metric tonnes of fish to meet our annual demand.

LIke I said, this is not by and sell where returns is almost immediate. You gotta plan carefully and hash out you project.

InvestmentRe: Stock Brokers In Nigeria? by danielorde(m): 9:13am On Jun 24, 2006
Hello Guys, You really don't need anyone to hook you up to a stock broker. All you need is go to the stock exchange building there you'd find a long list of them. I was using Amyn investment in the stock exchange building, until I changed jobs now I use Security Swaps in V/I, address is 5, Idowu taylor VI.

For those who want to know daily transactions check out www.expresson-line.com.

I must advice that no stockbroker can help you make decisions on what to buy, the choice is ultimately yours, you can ask for guidance though but remeber whatever decison you make is yours, so you must learn how the market works cos it really does work

Seun try investing 5000 naira in Firstbank shares later this year and see the difference it will make in the next 5years, I know of someone who bought a card with just dividends from first bank shares. This thing work if you are patient enough to learn the tricks. I wont mind sharing thoughts sha.

Note that I am not a broker, I am just interested in making a lt of money. I am actually a Network Administrator.

Best wishes as you write your exam, let us know when you have succeeded so that we can throw a nairaland party!!!

FOX,

How you go forget include OPC - O'dua Peoples Congress, Na dis one dey craze pass,

The Area boyz that collect money from all Public vehichles too, the kinda money that they collect is what I find amazing - Morning Fees, Afternoon and Night, Then you hear stuff like Mortuary fees, Boys fees, basically everything is extortion!!!

I really feel for the bus drivers hear, we have complained efforts have been made to erradicate them but the always seem to come back somehow, we are still yet to find a lasting solution.

Checkout www.torrentz.com it is not just music files but anything you want. I have just watched Chaos, Mission Impossible 3, I am currently downloading X-Men 3 the last stand. U need a client, there several options, I use Bitcomet, I have tried utorrent though.

Remember this is illegal o! if you are caught u dey on your own o! Please do not resell dis stuff, it will be highly unfair on those who really have the rights.
