Culture › Ooni Visits Lagos Assembly, Watches Proceedings In Yoruba by Danladi7(op): 3:50pm On Nov 22, 2017 |
The Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, on Thursday visited the Lagos State House of Assembly to watch the plenary sitting of the House conducted in Yoruba language. Speaker of the Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, restated the commitment of the Assembly to the promotion of Yoruba language and the culture of the Yoruba people. Obasa assured the Yoruba monarch that he and his colleagues in the Assembly will continue to work to promote the Yoruba language and culture. “We’ve started conducting our Thursday plenary sessions in Yoruba. We’ve gone ahead to organise the Yoruba Stakeholders’ Summit and we will ensure that the teaching of Yoruba language becomes compulsory in Lagos State. We will not relent and we will continue to do more so that our dear language will not go into extinction,” he said. The Lagos Assembly Speaker urged Yoruba wherever they are to make the language the tool of communication with their children at home. “The era of using other people’s language as tool of communication for our children should be rejected and should be done away with,” he said. Ooni Ogunwusi commended the Lagos lawmakers for being in the forefront of the struggle to promote the Yoruba language and culture. “I’m very happy to be here and I want to commend the members of the Lagos State House of Assembly for being in the forefront of the struggle for the promotion of Yoruba language and culture,” Oba Ogunwusi said. The monarch stated further that he was particularly pleased with the plenary sitting of the House conducted in Yoruba, saying that he had to push forward his visit to the House by 24 hours because he wanted to witness the Yoruba plenary session of the lawmakers. “I’m highly impressed and indeed with what you have done, the Lagos State House of Assembly has become role model for others in the country in the area of culture promotion,” Ooni Ogunwusi said. The programme was concluded with exchange of gifts between the Speaker and his visitor. https://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2017/01/12/ooni-visits-lagos-assembly-watches-proceedings-in-yoruba/

ehissi: While the Indigenous People of Anambra State, IPOAS, risked life and limb to exercise their civic responsibility, partaking in the just concluded election process.
It is on record that The Indigenous people of Biafra, IPOB, had declared the very election day as Ofe Nsala day and strongly advocated/advised that all the good people of Anambra state should sit at home, eat and drink, in effect calling for a boycott of the November elections.
Failure to comply with this directive, according to IPOB, is to place their lives at risk.
As at Saturday Morning, the Nairaland Frontpage was littered with treads - powered by lalasticlala - loaded with exclusive photographs of IPOB members using permanent voters cards as bottle cover for bottles of beer which they used to douse their thirst after munching on tasty Ofe Nsala, in line with the directive to boycott voting. Frontpage inserts provided by Lalasticlala also show treads loaded with reports of different people actively observing the IPOB declared boycott.
However, the Indigenous People of Anambra State, IPOAS, who by reason of nature are very industrious, International Developers and business men and Natural risk takers, defied this order and today, we have an INEC declared winner in Governor Obiano amidst other winners and supporters.
But more interesting, a very interesting character, who goes by the moniker, joephat, here on our darling Nairaland Forum declared and I quote
"If Anambra Election hold, I would denounce my igboship"
Which brings Nairaland to a very important question, has Joephat denounced his igboship? Is Joephat still igbo? And if he isnt igbo, well what exactly is he?
The United Nations, Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 15 section 1 states that "Everyone has the right to a nationality".
In the light of this, we would like to ask our dear brother and sisters, Danladi7, laudate, sarrki, etc to be our brothers keeper.
Please where can we donate this fellow in the event that he finally decides to take the path of integrity and denounce his igboship as he earlier planned (that is if the plan hasn't changed ).
So any suggestions from Nairalanders, Hausa, Fulani, Nupe, Igala, Edo, Ijaw, Yoruba, riyom, berom, bwari.
Please which of you guys are willing to accommodate this fellow so that we can avoid a humanitarian crisis here on nairaland. Anyone,............ just abandon him.He only proved further that Igbo are empty chestbeaters as we've known |

Politics › Ijaws Will Have No Inch Of Edo Land, Say Edo Traditional Rulers by Danladi7(op): 4:28pm On Nov 21, 2017 |
Traditional rulers in Edo North and Edo Central Senatorial districts have risen in unison to warn that they would not allow the Ijaws carved out kingdoms out of an inch of Edo land. The traditional rulers said they backed the Edo State and Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, in the stopping of the installation of one Godwin Ogunyenbo as the Pere of Olodiama Kingdom in Ovia North east Local government Area of Edo state. Speaking on Tuesday at a press briefing, the traditional rulers said the only recognized king in Edo South is the Oba of Bénin and described as abominable attempts by some traditional rulers from Bayelsa and Delta States to install another king in Edo South. First Vice Chairman of the Edo State Council of Traditional Rulers and Chiefs and Onojie of Opoji, His Royal Highness (HRH), Ehidiamen Aidonojie 1, urged security agencies to arrest and prosecute all the traditional rulers involved in the attempted coronation. His words, “It is misnomer for anybody to say Gelegele is part of Edo, Bayelsa and Delta States. A king from Bayelsa state came to the Oba last time to pay homage that his roots are here and now you see one Pere jumping over Warri to come here and install a king. “Our Oba has always welcome people. Late Okotie-Eboh was the Adolor of a Benin Kingdom. What the Pere from Delta and Bayelsa States did is unacceptable. The Portuguese entered Benin through Gelegele and it was the only port in Benin at that time. “If the Ijaws had wanted a chief, they would have pleaded with the Oba and he would have created a chieftaincy title for them. There can never be any other Kingdom in Edo South.” The Olokpe of Okpe, HRH Oba Idogun said they would not allow anyone or tribe trespass on any part of Edo land. His word, “Edo land is a property for the Edo people. We disagree with what the Peres of Bayelsa and Delta states did. We condemned their action.” Onojie of Ewu Kingdom, HRH Abdulrasaq Ojeifo, said it would be suicidal for any person to say he is king in Benin Kingdom. Ojeifo stated that it was a criminal act for anybody to declare himself king when the only recognized king is the Oba of Benin. He warned that the situation might degenerate to chaos and violence in the country if not well tackled. “We all know the history of Benin Kingdom. All of us both in Delta, Bayelsa have our roots in this Oba’s Palace. If you allow it to happen now, who knows where it will happen next. The title of Pere is not recognized by law.” www.thenationonlineng.net/ijaws-will-no-inch-edo-land-say-edo-traditional-rulers/ |

Obi1kenobi: Doesn't matter what it's "called". That's just semantics. There are loads of villages in every corner of the country. If anything, the large population density in the tiny landmass in the South East means we have less rural dwellers than other regions. We also farm less than other ethnicities which further makes us lean to urban living.
And regardless of population, Ibadan has never at any time in the 20th century been as developed as Lagos. Doesn't matter if UI was cited there. Harvard and MIT were cited in Cambridge, Massachusetts and Yale was cited in Connecticut. UNN was cited in Nsukka which was basically an agrarian village far from the major urban centres of the East. I dont expect an Ibo man to agree with me!..case closed! Every one knows when Ibadan used to be referred to as a city and lagos town! |

Obi1kenobi: The new emerging urban giant in Nigeria in the coming years will be Ogun state. Hundreds to thousands of registered businesses (industries, health centers etc) and probably tens to hundreds of thousands of residents are spilling over from Lagos into Ogun's border towns. Biggest mining state in the country. One of the biggest in agricultural output in the South. Largest concentration of universities. Church campuses etc. Several people that work in Lagos live there and pay their taxes. They are currently 2nd in IGR generated in the country, overtaking even Rivers, and rising still.
Better come and invest in the East and convince other Igbos to do so and stop killing yourself in envy over what is happening elsewhere. We need Igbo sons to invest in Igbo land and stop dragging who "owns" what with other indigenous tribes. Nigerian lagos before 1960 was even IBadan city!..why was IITA and University of Ibadan cited in Ibadan and not lagos?......For yorubas to be still parading the largest and 3rd largest city in term of land and populations shows building a city larger than that closed to atlante ocean will be small job!....Yorubas are naturally urban dwellers, that is why we dont call our hometown villages! Ibadan city and kano city are still the next big thing after lagos in this country!....For their information not all Yoruba land will be like lagos because not all part of UK is like london! |

koning: I very much doubt if you are Igbo with this azz-licking and ridiculous heading. You could simply ask Igbos to invest in Igbo land without having to bring up the issue of Lagos into it.
Lagos has never been a Yoruba Land. 97% of Yorubas in lagos are immigrants just like the Igbos, Hausas, Binis and other SS peoples. It is and will always remain a cosmopolitan entity for the entire nation. Yorubas are more in Lagos because of the proximity of core Yoruba states to Lagos.
Igbos are many there because of our ubiquitous and adventurous nature.
Igbos should invest more in Igbo states. I agree. But that has nothing to do with Lagos being 'no man's land'. Stop sucking up to Yorubas. that is if you are actually Igbo. LAGOS HAS NEVER BEEN A YORUBALAND? YOU ARE TOO IGNORANT! |

SpComedy: Lagos is a no man's land and the narrative is simple............. The yoruba may more in number but the no man-ness of Lagos is economically based.........
Every Nigerian contributed/is contributing to the growth of Lagos, the federal government used/uses money gotten from all over the country to build Lagos the more, all ethnic group in Nigeria are scampering to Lagos in other to gain back their resources used by FG to build Lagos, Thus making Lagos A NO MANS LAND.......... If e vex una ask federal government to construct federal roads, ports and airports in other region just like it's in Lagos..............
