Here is an article suggesting that we'll need $100 Billion to get to 40,000 MWH: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2010/12/power-nigeria-needs-100bn-to-attain-40000mw-ptfp/ Where the hell is the money going to come for this? The Nigerian gov't cannot afford it. We need private capital, private investors if we want power in the country. Alright, here is a screenshot of a powerpoint presentation I googled. Basically, generating electricity requires enormous amounts of cash. If we keep it in the hands of the gov't, it will never happen. It needs to be privatized so people have a profit incentive to come up with the billions of dollars required. If gov't managed, the gov't will underfund it and mess it up. http://i55.tinypic.com/v33iv4.png EDIT: Here is a link to the (Lagos-specific) powerpoint I saw this in: http://www.cbcglobal.org/CBCG_Library/AYO%20Gbeleyi,%20Power.ppsx |

Kobojunkie:Diaspora=>boost local economy=>less kidnapping: She identified three key areas - security, infrastructure and governance - as critical but pointed to human resources as the state’s greatest strength. |
I believe in trickle down economics, to some extent (not to the extreme that the Republicans do, though.) Wealthy people who live in Eko Atlantic will still eat beef, chicken, buy fuel, buy clothes, cars, etc. So of the large amounts of money they earn, a big fraction of it will be spent and circulated in the local economy. Basically, attracting rich people to come and live on your land and spend money is always a great idea. Whether it ends up being inhabited by rich Nigerians, whites, Chinese, Indians, or aliens from out of space, so long as they bring money and SPEND it, it benefits the people of Lagos. This is the way I think about things, at least. I'm more interested in this sort of economic development than socialistic things where the gov't directly spends money on the people in lame projects that aren't really economically productive. EDIT: readability |
^-- Thanks for the info. |
ROSSIKE:Fair enough. I guess my question is more, when will I be able to buy a plot of land (or plots) and build housing there? When will the roads be completed? Things like that. |
I wondered about the impact of this project on the shoreline. Looks like it will actually help protect Victoria Island from climate change; they are building a seawall and have used computer simulations to estimate its effectiveness. Following video is pretty long (6 min), but pretty good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E906CPuq5Ac Fashola received an award from the Clinton Global Initiative for this, as well: http://allafrica.com/stories/200909290203.html I'm really impressed overall. This is a wonderful project that will attract billions of dollars, possibly 100s of billions in business to Lagos. Still not clear to me what the ETA is for this project. EDIT: minor typos |
^-- Haha ![]() No conspiracy man, just trying to fix our economies. Best way to do this is to cooperate and have a common vision. For example, it will be more cost effective to do a power project if you have 3 states collaborating than just one. Get to take advantage of economies of scale. Of course, it would be better if we could do this all across Nigeria at once. But unfortunately, politics always gets in the way. . . |
Poor luck, but also poor decision making. The who situation is dicey. A guy with a fake marriage being involved in the fake marriage trade? I dunno why people are so greedy. You managed to get the citizenship, by hook and crook. Why not do legitimate work and business to avoid trouble? This country is very easy to thrive in if you just avoid doing dangerous things. Even his fake marriage, they'd never have found out about it if he had kept his nose clean. With all that said, I feel very bad for him and wish things had turned out differently ![]() |
Mrs, Eve:Ms Eve, I have lived in America almost all my life. I'm 25 now and have lived here since I was 4. You and I BOTH know that Nigerian men treat their women MUCH better than African American dudes. Scammers? Do Nigerian men scam their women more then AA women do? Regarding money, how many Nigerians are deadbeat? We all work hard like dogs. And you have to be joking if you are really saying we are more physically abusive than AAs. That is a flat out lie. How many times is your Nigerian BF going to come back home at 4am drunk and high from a strip club, and then going to beat you for not putting out? Let's keep it real here. Nigerian dudes will treat you WAYYY better than AAs will. |
@Mrs, Eve: See what I am saying? White women (like @Tink_sh) are not mumus, even if you catch them. They'll melt in your hands once you break through, but this doesn't mean they'll let you run roughshod over them. Plus the thing is too, there is so much external pressure from parents, family members, etc, that if you DO run roughshod over them, they'll break up with you. If anything, white girls are even more annoying to deal with sometimes. They have all these crazy Western feminist ideas in their heads. I remember I got in trouble once when we had this conversation about what would happen if we got stuck on a desert island, Gilligan's Island-style. Me, her, and a few other couples we knew at the time. I pretty much told her point blank that feminism and democracy, all that type of sh1t would go away, that she'd be pretty much staying at home raising babies while I'm out hunting And then she got so offended by this (despite it being TRUE) that she didn't put out for days! ![]() At least with Nigerian girls, since a lot of them understand how village life is, they understand that truly if we got stuck on Gilligan's Island, that is the way it would be. Nigerian and black women are a bit easier to get along with in some respects, because they don't have crazy white feminist ideas in their heads. Don't get me wrong, I'm not some sort of bigot, woman hater, etc. I don't think women are lesser than men, they can and should get as much education, be able to participate equally in society, etc. I just know that there is a time and a place for everything. Feminism and equality for everyone is going to be fine in the Western world, but not going to be fine if we get stuck in a Brazilian jungle or something. |
No one has yet justified why the enormous amount of resources that the Delta currently receives is so badly misspent. I understand, you want a larger piece of the cake. But why are you wasting the slices of the cake you are currently getting? Any solution for the Delta will require addressing both the money they are earning and the money they fritter away. You cannot address the former alone. Yet that seems to be the primary focus of this thread. |
Mrs, Eve:No ma'am, I have no reason to scam anyone. All I seek is love and to be loved back. I earn my own money, not looking to sponge off anyone ![]() I said that WHITE WOMEN ARE KNOWN IN THE BLACK COMMUNITY to be less combative and easier to scam.White women are probably less combative yes. But who says they are easier to scam? Black men certainly won't say that. Maybe black women might think it, but I dunno any black dudes who think the same way. It depends on who you ask. First of all, IF BLACK CHICKS ARE LESS WARY AS YOU STATED, then why the flying canine poo is black men complaining about black women being too COMBATIVE, WEARING THE MEN'S PANTS, HAVE NASSY ATTITUDE, AND THEY ARE THE REASON WHY BLACK MEN dating white chicks? THAT DON'T SOUND LIKE A PERSON THAT IS NOT WARY,I dunno, I'm not one of the black dudes complaining about that type of stuff. If a woman has a nasty attitude, I'm going to detect that quickly and stop dating her. I date all types of women (I don't care much about race, ethnicity, skin color) and the black ones I date have nice attitudes. |
The Black Scorpion: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/6c/Black-scorpion-benjamin-adekunle.jpg A reincarnation of one of the Yoruba warlords of old? No one knows. . . |
Mrs, Eve:Black women are just as easy if not easier to scam than white women. At least white women are somewhat suspicious at first. Black women are less wary. How many black women do you see carrying around babies without the dad around, while not seeing any child support money? You see many, many relationships where the black woman is the only one earning money and the dude is just lazy and doing nothing. White women don't put up with either of these two things. In any case, guys shouldn't take advantage or scam anyone, imo. It is unethical. But to pretend that white women get scammed more easily is just ridiculous. |
Carolece:No need to be hating on Nigerian men, please ![]() |
dubem3:Even in the Bible sef, the land was inhabited by Jebusites and all of those other Canaanite groups. So how is the land "rightfully" theirs? |
Beaf:I'm not worried about it. It just seems to make little sense for them to be bitching for more money when they aren't managing what they have now. Or put differently, I sympathize less with their cause. Hard for me to take someone seriously who complains about oppression/colonization when he is oppressing and colonizing himself. |
"Babangida's comments are a warning shot -- a break-up of the PDP is a real possibility if Jonathan wins the primaries or even decides to continue to contest," said one Nigerian political analyst, who asked not to be named.Hrm. |
I highly doubt that you can look at someone and tell what fraction Yoruba/Fulani they are. Alimi was Fulani, but his son and heir Abdulsalam, his mother was Yoruba. It is quite possible that this fraction has increased over time; I wouldn't be surprised if their Emir is now 75%+ Yoruba. Even people who are 25% white mostly look black, not to talk of someone who might be as little as 25% fulani. Most of this stuff is politics, really. You have to remember that when Afonja began his rebellion against the Oyo Empire, a good portion of his troops were runaway Hausa slaves. And Fulani were not likely to be that numerous in Ilorin when the rebellion began. It seems plausible that a lot of these guys who claim to have Fulani ancestors instead in Ilorin instead have Hausa slave ancestors. This was my suspicion about Saraki before reading this article, my guess was some sort of descendant of a Hausa palace slave. Instead he turns out he is Egba ![]() revomind:I have a problem with what they are doing because it causes division. The Sarakis are vipers in our midst. |
I support their right for resource control. But how will resource control be relevant if they cannot control their own corrupt politicians? Suppose they received 100% of the money produced from their land. How exactly will this help matters? I agree that Yoruba/Hausa/Igbo are essentially colonialists. But you still have to spend the little money you have wisely, imo. |
^-- Would explain a lot of true. Dude hates/hated Yoruba ![]() |
^-- Yeah, English really screwed over the Irish. The potato famine stuff was pretty brutal. |
Ericology:Because the time of landgrabs ended around 1800 or 1900? Human sacrifice was also practiced in Nigeria back in the day; does that mean it can be done again today? Things that were acceptable 1400 years ago or 2000 years ago are not acceptable now. In any case, why exactly are the Palestinians the ones giving up their land when the Germans were the ones who genocided the Jews? Why is the Palestinian paying the price for the sin of the German? |
All women are great, naija, african american, white, asian, hispanic, etc. But I must admit, there is something quite enjoyable about getting with hot white women. It makes white dudes SO ANGRY! ![]() I think the anger, taboo nature of it all is a huge turn on. Knowing in the back of my mind that her daddy, grandpa, cousin, that white dude down the street, etc wouldn't approve of her dating me, talk less of what I'm doing with and to her ![]() Such a huge turn on. You should go to some white racist sites like Stormfront and see how ANGRY they get over black/white relationships. It cracks me up ![]() |
^-- He speaks the truth They have a lot of fear, but mixed with fascination. If you can get past the fear, they will melt like butter in your hands ![]() |
kelao:Jerusalem was conquered by the Arabs almost 1400 years ago. Before that, it was conquered by the Romans. Jewish people have not controlled that land for more than 2000 years. Also, demographics changed. In 1930 or whatever, the territory was almost entirely Palestinian. It was purely a landgrab. |
Reference:Well said. |
revomind:Everyone already knew that the Sarakis are from Abeokuta? I sure did not. |
Read the article carefully, it appears his claims of Fulani ancestry are false. Unless the ambassador (a friend of his father) was lying. Anyway, I cannot knock the Sarakis for their personal ambition. Making such a claim and tying oneself to Alimi and his allies is probably helpful for internal Kwara politics. Falsely claiming Fulani has helped them to turn an entire state into their personal fiefdom. It would have been pretty hilarious though if Saraki had been chosen by the PDP as the Northern presidential candidate and won. Many of them oppose GEJ because they view him as a tool of OBJ (also an Egba man); how pissed would they be to find that they'd chosen another Egba as the Northern consensus candidate? ![]() |
http://pmnewsnigeria.com/2010/12/07/kwara-bombshell-saraki-is-an-egba-man-ex-ambassador-reveals/ A former Nigerian Ambassador to Cote D’Ivoire, Alhaji AbdulGaniy Folorunsho Abdulrazak has declared that the godfather of Kwara politics and the Turaki of Ilorin, Dr. Olusola Saraki, is not from Kwara State but an Egba man from Ogun State.I thought he was a Fulani from Mali? ![]() |
^--- The first coup actually wasn't an ethnic plot. The civilians at that time were really, really corrupt. And Igbos dominated the officer corps of the Nigerian Army at that time, so it was mostly just demographics that caused them to be the ones who started a coup. Yoruba people for some reason weren't as interested in joining the military as Igbos were. Were more interested in other things. It was only later when Nigeria saw the importance of diversifying the officer corps. If it had widely been viewed as an ethnic plot, I doubt the rank-and-file (primarily composed of Middle Belters, Northerners, with small amounts of southerners) would have complied. Anyway, Gowon/Awolowo did nothing wrong in this war. Nor did Nigeria against Biafra. Wars never happen cleanly, people die, civilians are incidentally killed, etc. The primary mistake Nigeria made was not hiring a PR firm as good as the ones the Biafrans hired And the war would have ended more quickly if we'd had several commanders as good as Ben Adekunle (rather than the incompetent Murtala Mohammed.) That dude gobbled up Biafran land like it was fried chicken! ![]() |

And then she got so offended by this (despite it being TRUE) that she didn't put out for days!
They have a lot of fear, but mixed with fascination. If you can get past the fear, they will melt like butter in your hands
