Imagine covenant university being rated more than many prestigious universities.
If only these peddlers know how these things are done, they will know that it will take covenant and co many years of doing the right things to get to that.

UNN has never gone below the third position yet I kept seeing 7th from these fools.

Cont...1985

The year was still 1985, exactly 17 years ago. Precisely two weeks before I was conceived.

I was staring at Humble Ben , well; not really her, but a photograph of her. She had really bright pearly eyes , reminding me of someone I used to know .I placed those thoughts aside and continued ransacking her apartment.

She was really thorough with hiding things in her little two bedroom apartment. It was one of her numerous safe houses , but this one was of greater sentimental value to her . Its felt homely, warm and full of memories . The room I was ransacking contained boxes with various tapes cassettes , except some of the cassette containers were filled with money rolled and bonded.

"Wow, another gun" , I whispered under my breathe . I placed it along with the numerous weapons i had collected from different corners of the room invisible to a non observant eye.

"Are you done here?" I heard Rita say from behind me.

"Sure. She should be back any moment from now. Keep a watch" I paused, "And don't kill anyone , unless I instruct you to".

"Got it".

Humble Ben was indeed full of surprises, thats why I needed to ensure she was far from anything dangerous, for her own good. Rita could get ticked off and accidentally kill someone.

I poured down a glass of the most expensive wine I could find in her kitchen . You only get to live a couple of times . I smiled and washed it down my throat . I walked to the sitting room and found myself a couch to relax . If this goes as planed , Everything would finally be alright.

"She is here ... And with a kid . "

What kid I wondered as I saw the door knob turn . I turned to Rita, and she could read my expressions already like a book. She cloaked her presence and stood behind me, vanishing like smoke ,as I sat on the couch facing the door .
The door slowly opened as Onome , a.k.a. Humble-Ben walked in with a kid ,about 10years old .

They seemed to have been returning from a religious gathering . She was clad in a blue gown , a turban around her head and a religious book in her hand .

He carefully locked her door and gave the lad her book to hold while she locked the door properly.

It would seem like they didn't notice my presence, which was very possible, but giving the person I was dealing with, the kind of criminal that only exhausted in movies or a figment of someones lucid dream or fantasy, it was less probable.

Humble-Ben had bent to put the final lock on the door to place when I observed she was skilfully searching her foot-mat for something.

"Don't bother, I removed it , and the other 24 you have hidden in the apartment. I want to talk to y.."

Bang!!
Bang!!

The first shot had gone off from a gun she pulled out from her gown, and the second had gone off from mine . I had deflected the bullet with mine. Just a split second less, I would have caught a bullet straight in my left eye; had I not squeezed the sensitive spot of my gun buried inside my coat .

I could see the registered shock on her face and I knew why. That was best shot I seen any one take . Well, except mine. No man could could possibly out-gun me. I was more impressed with the shot than glad I wasn't bleeding through my eyes. Not that any amount of effort from her could be fatal to me, just that one can never get used to the sting of gun shots. I had to be cautious also, not to draw unnecessary attention.

She recovered in a couple if seconds to the the stinging sound from from the barrel of the gun the boy by her side kept shooting at me. She joined in and squeezed her trigger .

The bullets stopped mid air about a foot from where I sat and quickly fell on to the ground . The stared mortified at me like they had seen a ghost.

Interesting, so the the little boy knows how to squeeze one too. I smiled and poured another glass of wine for my self . Even if it was poisoned , my body was immune to all that. I took a look a sip and stared at their shocked faces.

I wondered what they would do if they saw Rita, the person that shielded all the bullets away . I wondered if the neighbours had heard the gun shots . I wondered if Humble-Ben would agree to help me for the reason I came. I wondered all this as I took another sip .

I wasn't here for a gun fight, I just needed her trust first, then her help. If things went well, I might even tell her I more about herself . I never imagined my daughter would turn out like this as I was torn between 'disappointment' and 'impressed'.

I graduated from uniben, chose uniben because I wanted to compete with the best, when I entered uniben in 1995 it was the school that people desired the most, how can you attend a private school and say you are competing with the best when the poor cannot afford those schools. I finished from a very good secondary school and in uniben I schooled and competed with students that finished from local schools, on the issue of criminality it's everywhere , no school teaches crime. I will never consider private uni if given a chance I was in yabatech for same reason I wanted to compete with the best. When I came to states I wanted to enroll in university of Maryland a public school but I was not admitted which is the only reason I now had to do my masters at a private university, stop fooling yourself a private uni cannot compare to a public

1995 you say... Such a long time ago if you ask me , considering most of these school started in the early 2000s, I am yet to see your intelligent point here, SIR.

You make statements that have no backing or iota of personal experience . This is the problem i have with many of you public school graduates on this thread. I would asume someone who has passed through the accademic community would know better to cite and give references . But no, your arguement is simply based on personal feelings and assumptions .

Part of being educated is Learing , and relearning and unlearning somethings. You show as someone simply not interested in that.

If you have the money , or cant afford the ivy leauge (private schools by the way) abroad, please opt for a good private institution in Nigeria (my opinion).

peacefull:

Thank You for caring me.

Sometimes, truth is so hurt to mind.
Now many peoples in here(Nairaland) telling me that he is married in Nigeria.

I still wanna trust him.
But it is so difficult to me now.

I'm always getting love him than yesterday but also getting tired about him.

I don't wanna hate him.
If he already marry with somebody in Nigeria, that is maybe good for him.
Bcoz he is happy now?

I just wanted have and make good family with him.
If he is happy, I also happy.
If he is sad, I wanna share his sad and wanna take his pain.
If he has trouble, i will try to solve that trouble with him what I can do all of my best for him.

I wanted have kind of relationship with him.
And I'm still trying to do my best now.
I don't know that is working to him or not.
Sometimes I made mistake and sometimes I can't do.
Bcoz of I am human.
Not a robot.

Anyway,
I'm so APPRECIATE all of peoples who is wrote for me in here.
I really wanted hear from real Nigerians voice.
I hadn't way to hear about Nigeria and Nigerian culture.
Only I having way to hear from my husband.

Now I found out he is not common Igbo guy what he treating me.
But I got peace of mind about Nigerian peoples.
I know that every country have good person and bad person.
But in here(Japan), many Nigerians are doing bad things and some of arrested.
If open website, many Japanese women are
wrote about how much bad person who is Nigerian guys/husband what they forgotten about they choose started relationship with that guy.
But many of them are warm hearted person in here(Nairaland) for me what doesn't matter about my husband.

I just thankful to meet good Nigerian peoples instead of my husband grin

You seem a really great and wonderful person...

Geez, love is scary .

Tell him what you typed here . Tell him even if he is married in Nigeria and you are not accusing him that he is, you still want to make things work with him.

You might just be suprised at how he opens up .

Nigerian marriages have ups and downs . And I can tell you (thought I'm not married ) , many people just stay in the marriage cause if their kids . If this is how you truely feel, then what you guys have is beautiful.

Cheers .

I feel so terrible for you mehn.

Once there is life , their would always be a way out, just pray to God to reveal wisdom on how best and what steps next to take.

Dont feel down and moody, be lively, visit friends and boost your mood , cause no great ideas can come into a moody soul.

Try seeking the help of the police to track these people down.

Try also meeting your lenders with someone they can respect to escourt you. Discuss your challenge with them and if they can break down the money into a structure you can pay back.

Gather your resources together , the one you can turn to money, ( may not be material, but also mental. Like taking a teaching job).

Also , join a faith believeing church if you're a christain . Talk to people (like a pastor or a believer ) , and dont let the challenge burn inside.

I see God helping you.

Its just a phase .

Every set back is a set up for a come back

It is disheartening and an aberration that this what Nigerians can do to make Nigeria better, claiming superiority and inferiority over one another in Universities both in private and public

We can't put our ideas into practical terms that will affect the people's life.

For someone to take his or her previous time to put this down then I doubt the person educational background. Instead of you to bring quantum ideas on how to solve Nigerian problems, you
are lampooning universities. You went to school and make things better. But here, you have nothing to show for it but criticism.

If I may ask the OP,
1)What are your achievements? 2.1 or First Class is not an achievement because it is written on paper.
2) what have you been able to invent? How is your contributions to humanity?
3) If you academic achievement is not reflecting in the lives of people then you should keep quiet amd hide the private university you attended.

Nigerians are good in paper work that is theoritical work but not in practical work.

The last I checked, Mr. Seun graduated from a public University. You are using NL and claiming the best.

People like Mr. Falana, Barr. Mike Ozekhomhe, Ali Baba, Mr. Featus Keyamo, Prof. Charles Soludo, Prof. Pat Utomi and many more graduated from public universities

I do agree with some interesting points you raised, but then, along the line, you allowed anger towards the OP and the thread cloud reasoning and I commend your effort to articulate these nice thoughts .

I would like to answer your questions and address one or two things.

Question1) I feel its rhetorical , seeing as you hastily answered a question you asked

Question2) Ever heard of the gas iron? Its not so popular over here , and new also, but really used industrially in china and Russia (invented with a solid patent by a graduate from my school, covenant university by the way ). You should google it, should be an interesting read.

Question3) Amazing you should ask that... Try to google Wadi Benhirki as well.

Many of our students (even years before they graduate have huge humanitarian foundations and are very kind hearted people...i dont know why its usually the girls anyway cheesy)

You mentioned Falana and ko, my school was not even in existence when falana started having children... (Our private schools have barely graduated 10 sets )and even him sent his children to private universities.

University education does not determine brain power or ability to write proper English. Bear that in mind, there was a CU graduate on one of those WWTBAM shows that did not know what a cockerel is.

Your secknary education is what determines one's ability to speak or write proper English. For instance, I am attending a public university, and my writings are as good as anything you could find anywhere else.

Never ever assume that University shapes the way people write, maybe it can affect reasoning to some extent, but that would have more to do with the calibre of people you meet as opposed to where you school.

I'm a CU student, and I totally agree with you there, its personal development and willingness to pursue knowledge that makes one really good( and I can tell you for a FACt that My school provides an amazing platform for that with EASE). In fact, I have never seen English speaking or writing a prove of intelligence, except of cause its ones field of study. I mean, its just a language for communication and not sophistication .

But then, you fail to realise what the person you quoted was driving at. A person wrote an article or argumentative essay , what ever he intended the post to be ; with no reasonable point let alone a proper way of conveying a reasonable thought . You can say something with poor use of english , and say something with poor use of the brain (no offence) , which the fellow did; driving home no reasonable thought let alone numbers or facts to back up.

About the CU student in the video(never seen it though)... People react differently under stress especially on screen, thats why some people study mass communication and some opt for engineering... And please we are also human beings , its bad to live by a single story .

What is the point if a jambite who couldn't score 200 goes to a private uni and graduates a better person mentally and morally compared to his peers who could score 200 and graduated from public uni ?
I dont know where you guys get this ideas from , please please and please , maybe its some private school, not mine like CU, you get 200 in jamb or less?

You people need a lot if reorientation especially when making hasty conclusions about matters you have NO idea about, just stay 'talks' like this garbage( no offence ) that you just spilled.

Firstly, many students from CU (for example , since thats the only example i can work with , and unlike some people like you, I stick to and talk about what I know about) attended the best and most expensive secondary schools in Nigeria. The likes of Loyola, Presco, Lumen christi, faith academy, Olasore , Jefta (some time , you google them) ... Hence, following the thread , their parents send them to CU, cause they want the best (which they eventually get.)

This mentality of jamb score thing should not follow you into new year o.

200 in jamb, such insult angry

Baba don't deceive yourself, many students at private universities cannot score 200 in JAMB, this truth remains

The year I got into covenant , in my department , the average jamb score was 250, and many that wanted architecture that year and didn't have up to 260 and 45/60 in post UTME had to find some other department or school... Thats why you read the interviews with our best graduating students, learning that they had 300 and above in Jamb.

Acceptance fee in CU is paid long before fedral or state schools even start post jamb exams , so its not like they come because they were denied admission somewhere else .

Just this year, a course-mate of mines' sibling was denied Archie and computer engineering , was told at the admission office that he needed minimum 280 in jamb to make his BRQ sufficient enough to study those programmes

I dont know why you guys get all bitter and boil with rage , jumping into conclusion on matters you have absolutely no idea about... But then again, it only shows the kind of education received . smiley
