It is very painful when an aspiring medical student gets Biochemistry instead of medicine. Take for Instance Delsu----->256 biochemistry student.
For me I prefer chemistry than biochemistry. If you know your chemistry well you will get a good job.

With 311 and this O'level there's quite a big chance she will make it into Udusok. Kogi is part of her well recognised ELD states.
Also if she can do better than 311 in ABU post utme, there is fair chance for her too - I learnt many Kogites are in ABU.
Have you guys consider UniMaid or ATBU? UniMaid is quite strong, I don't know much about ATBU tho.
In the west, I'd primarily suggest LASU. I have forgotten how the screening is calculated but there's no post utme - you can make enquiries about it as only O'level and Utme score is needed. ( since she's not a lagosian, I'll advise her to opt out if her screening aggregate is not in the north of 80%).
OOU is also a good school, one of the top state owned institutions with a good medical school, fees are kinda expensive but admission isn't too competitive.
UniMed, Ondo is also another choice, state owned and expensive too but admission isn't too strict here. I have no idea about this school current accreditation status.
EBSU, ESUT, UNIZIK are my top recommendations if you want to head Southern part of Nigeria.
I won't recommend UNN, UniBen, Delsu, OAU, Unilag, Unijos but if she wants to try any of them, she's good to go but I won't advice my sister to choose any.

Udus MBBS is not about scores alone, there are many things attached that isn't fed to the public.
If you're from catchment - you're safe. If you're from ELD - you stand a chance. If you're from merit - then you'd fight a war to get in.
All in all what matters in Udus is your score, your state, God and maybe connections if you want MBBS.
On a simpler scale, last year merit was 280 until you apply. That 280 is just on paper, they will only admit you if you're the highest or among the highest from your state. ( assuming 10 people from Lagos or any merit state choose Udus for MBBS with scores like 340, 333, 320, 301, 298, 295, 289...) They will only admit the top 3 or 4 scorers for MBBS, the next 2 top scorers will be offered BDS ( a new programme) while others will be thrown to applied chm, MCB, etc. Don't forget the fact that all the ten aspirants had above 280 which was written on paper. That's why I said they are transparent but tribalisms is ....
But assuming you are from catchment states like Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Niger etc. With 270 they can literally beg you to accept the admission for MBBS. I saw people with 230, 240, 235, 250 etc offered MBBS from the core northern states (cut off mark for catchment was pegged at 230)...

There is no post utme as at now (just a good utme score and complete Olevel). Also their MBBS is kinda okay and fast too. Their class of 2015 were supposed to start their 2nd MB (Exam written at the end of 400lvl) in March before the ASUU stuffs.
Do your homework well, if you have 300+ in utme and you don't want to prepare for post utme again... You stand a good chance in Udus. Just don't be surprised if you're the only student from your state while some state have as high as 25 students.

It's still ok. The issue of catchment will not be a problem. With 283 in JAMB, just try and get 290 in the post-utme and you'll be offered admission into dentistry at UNN.

Why not try UNN since you want dentistry? With 286, you'll be offered dentistry there. However, travel down to the faculty at UNTH, Ituku-Ozalla, Enugu and ask them. I'm sure you'll certainly smash the postutme and score up to 290 or 300 in it. You have a big chance there.

yeah you'll stand a very high chance of gaining admission for dentistry in UI if you work very hard.
Last year,cutoff was about 73 for dentistry.
Aim for 80 and above in the post utme and you should be fine.

I am not so surprised about your Parents kicking against UNIMAID, it's normal given the prevailing circumstances in the country.

No one University is perfect. There are some schools where connections and money run the affairs viz: LAUTECH, UNIJOS, ABU, UNILAG, LASU and UI (covertly).

Now I would pick each of these schools(I know a bit about each one) and talk about them briefly to buttress.

LAUTECH: I was at Ogbomoso some seven years ago for Predegree. When admission time came I began seeing different funny things at the students affairs, because that's where the office of the admissions officer is located. You see several vehicles littered across the car lot that caters for the students affairs building. Pot-bellied lecturers going in and out. Students milling around in their numbers.

I saw deserving students even of Oyo and Osun origin shuffled to funny departments that had no correlation whatsoever with what they applied for from the onset.

I myself was offered crop and environmental protection in lieu of Medicine, when I complained the admissions officer told me blankly "Go and study Medicine in your father's state (Ondo)". I knew someone who applied for Medicine and was offered Fine and Applied art.

People getting whisked from Computer Engineering to Accounting Technology, Marketing and Transport Management. While some students who, if their scores were subtracted from mine, there would still be more than 100 difference got in for Medicine, Nursing and MLS.

LAUTECH was so porous (I don't know about now). I even helped a friend who failed his test that time. I knew one of the student leaders at that time, I explained, he told me to bring 20/25k, (I can't remember which) for upgrade. When the results and admission was released, my guy did well and was even offered Human Anatomy.

UNIJOS: I considered applying here for Dental Surgery but had to take two steps back when I started observing irregularities in their admissions process; I followed UNIJOS aspirants page on Facebook. I saw several people who merited the courses they applied for being offered something totally different. It's bewildering, really.

I have this colleague in Medicine who came from Jos to ABU. He was offered LARIS (Library and Archival Studies) in place of Medicine. Funny enough, a friend of his who he scored more than got Medicine. That school's modalities still baffles me, a lot.

ABU: ABU also has her own fair share of illogicalities, several if you asked me. How else, would one explain why someone with 250 average got Medicine and someone with 286 average was offered Physiology(with connection; I learnt about this much later). Moving a dude I know from Nursing all the way to Home Economics.

ABU also has SBRS (School of Basic and Remedial studies) students (from the 19 Northern states) to satisfy. It's complicated, honestly.

"You have to score the highest from your non-catchment state to be eligible for competitive courses", that statement only but goes so far.

I would say ABU is a matter of God's grace. A friend told me to, quoting him, "Make sure you know somebody. You know those abokis are always against Southerners blah, blah, blah". Well, I got in on the first list. I knew only God.

UNILAG:At Akoka, people pay millions to get into Medicine/Dental Surgery. Their admissions cut off mark list is more or less them fulfilling "Social righteousness" so to say.

Sure, some people would get in on merit, but how many? Is it with their style of Post UTME that seems the devil himself descended to design the model?.

Infact, I quizzed a friend who studies Medicine there now on how he prepared for their PUTME. He told me he had to buy a JAMB Government past question and several types of Current affairs pamphlets just to ace their exam.

Laudable effort, I agree. However, can you just imagine?

How about their Foundation/Diploma students? You know how much they pay? And there one is, spending at most N10,000(including registration in cafes for UTME and PUTME). One can't possibly expect them to admit one over them.

I have a neighbor whose father had to part with N700,000 for him to get a space in Law. On transit to 200L, I think they reviewed his results and found him missing Yoruba, he losed his admission. Baba took the UTME again and is currently in part 3 studying English Language. UNILAG is money and connection for the most part, if one has any of those, one is by all means good to go.

LASU: A friend's friend(who comes from Ogun State) applied there for Medicine some two years ago and heard nothing from that school up till date. He had 300+ at that time. Today, that fellow is now at Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto studying Medicine.

UI: University of Ibadan is by far the most transparent federal University in Nigeria. If you merit your admission, there's no witch or villager that would usurp what the almighty has perfected.

However, the competition. It is at UI you see Olympiad winners, Best Students at NECO and WAEC, people who have experience with A-Levels. This is where majority of them come. However, this is not to scare you, if it's Dental Surgery/Medicine at UI you want, you can by all means get it.

Now, only a few persons know UI past questions get leaked. How else can one explain a person scoring 92 in UI Post UTME. You can't just up and achieve that feat, it's the University of Ibadan.

I have a hunch those tutorial guys(Team tutors, Abadina; Apex Tutorials, Agbowo, et al.) have these questions. How do they get them? When their students go in for the PUTME, they tell them to memorize some of these questions, see, simple.

When it's time for their PUTME tutorials, I'd advice you be on campus for them, it would go a long way.

Also, the covertly aspect is this. Some students are given a sort of edge; a back door. If they fall couple of marks below the cut off mark, they are given a sort of waiver, provided the student is an offspring of and has thesame surname as a senior staff such as a Professor. I got to know about this at the UI UG-Admissions office last year when I went on enquiry for a friend.



Conclusively, all of these I have written are not an hallmark or a sort of yardstick and should not be regarded as one.

I do not know the innings of things that occur in various admissions offices across universities in Nigeria, all of the above are guesstimates.

Yet, we've got a God who can do the seemingly impossible. Do your part and do it very well.

My heart goes out to you all. It's hard, I know. You've come far and I applaud you.

Just pray, hope, follow your heart/intuition and do not be anxious for anything.

The 71% point I got is based on lasu point system I don't know if it is the same for aau.... on your aggregate based on the lasu point system is 80.125

lasu favours mostly their indigenes a lot.
If you're not from Lagos,then you need to score very high in their screening score in order for you to stand a chance.
I guess with 75 and above for dentistry you should be good.

Yeah I know. Since its for Nda once you scale through Ndaee you will be called for afsb where you might need to submit your credentials. Prior to that, you will print a parent consent form and local government attestation form. The local government attestation form covers the Local govt indigene form you are yearning form. And the local government attestation form form the site is to be signed by your local govt chairman or Any senior officer from you state (that's From the Rank of a Lieutenant Colonel upward). And understand its from your state so not only your local government. All you have to do is look for an officer form osun from the rank of a LTCOL and above to sign the form Nd you can let go of the Oyo osun madness.


But like I said, the only issue you might have is in officer cadre. That means if you get the admission and pass out from Nda. You dnt know what tomorrow holds, you might end up been an appointment holder like the COAS or one GOC or Commandant etc and they may need to publish your biography. That means they will say from Osun. But I doubt osun can disown you then. As per who no like better thing

Actually academy accepts affidavit. But pray you don't fall in the wrong hand. My advise is this, leave the indigene firm once u can get a Ltcol above to sign your consent form. This days consent form is used in exchange for local govt whatever. If u can get a Ltcol, it is settled. That means you won't be needing Oyo for anything and it means you are from osun state.


The only masala you will HV is in officer cadre perhaps if you have a Packard appointment and they need to publish your biography. Then you might had issues

The issue now is not about obtaining the certificate of origin from oyo state, but all my other documents indicate I'm from osun state. well I think the best thing I can do is to swear an affidavit to back it up.

Like what and what as osun state got to offer me that other state can't offer? my state of birth pays bursary to its student, my mom is from a state that one of her institution offers 50% tuition fee scholarship to her indigens.

I feel you need a dignitary from the local govt to back up your claim. I had Same issues when academy told us to bring indigene ship form. HV lived all my life in the north and I even speak more Hausa than Yoruba and on getting to local government, the first mistake I made was speaking Hausa and dressing in my kaftan. The secretary there was like am not from the state and again, my first name is English so it didn't help matters. I tried convincing them and I was asked to speak Ekiti dialect which I can't even comprehend. While there again,
a friend called and I spoke Hausa all thru unknowingly that they were watching me closely. They denied me the local govt attestation until my mum who was close to the king called and he called the local govt chairman and in a jiffy I was giving all I needed. The secretary still stood her stand that am an Hausa man taking their slot for academy. Las las I was giving and I was enjoined to learn my native language and dialect.


Bottom line, find someone in power. Mine was better, a friend of mine who we were to go for the interview together then was not giving at all. He was born and grew in sokoto and we both met in nms. His grand parents can't even say specifically where their family house is in Ekiti they just know they are from moba. He got to the local govt and he was denied the indigeneship las las, someone tried helping and they asked where their family house was, he couldn't even point it out and he can't even speak Yoruba at all. He was complete denied the attestation and he was told to go and collect form sokoto. Though his name was Yoruba etc. Though a general signed his Local govt form but due to absence of indigene cert, he was screened out and that halted his dreams of following his dreams

You actually understand exactly what my problem is... I also want apply for academy and I'm very familiar with their screening procedure a discrepancy in state of my origin on my waec certificate and certificate of origin will result in my disqualification and academy won't accept affidavit in its place.
