My study permit approval timeline
LONG POST ALERT!
I have been a silent reader. I’m really grateful for this platform and to everyone that shared their experiences. Here we go
First time applicant
•Submitted: May 14th •Biometrics letter: May 15th •Biometrics done: May 19 uploaded the same day •Upfront Medical done: May 17th •Updated on my profile: May 20th •Eligibility review: June 16th •BVL/PPR: October 26th
I got partial funding and the remaining fund was sponsored by a non-relative: a family friend which I clearly stated. I almost got discouraged because I wasn’t using a relative but I just trusted God.
Documents submitted
IRCC FORMS
1. Application for Study Permit Made Outside of Canada (IMM1294E), 2. Family Information form (IMM5645E) 3. Temporary Resident form (IMM5257B)
Conditional offer (Masters)
POF
1. Letter of sponsorship 2. Affidavit of support 3. Letter of funding from my school 4. Sponsor’s Work ID 5. Sponsor’s International passport data page 6. Sponsor’s payslip and promotion letter 7. Sponsor’s bank account statements
Client Information
1. Letter of explanation- about 6 pages 2. Unofficial Transcript 3. Letter from my undergraduate uni acknowledging I’m a graduate because no certificate, we hadn’t done convocation then 4. WAEC Certificate 5. NYSC Certificate 6. Police Certificate 7. Certificate of completion for a training 8. Certificate that shows I’m a student member of the professional organization 9. Email conversation with my supervisor 10. Email conversation with my school to show I had fulfilled the conditional offer 11. Letter of Introduction from current employer 12. Letter of Recommendation from NGO (for home ties) 13. Work contract from previous job 14. Photos with colleagues from previous job, work brochure 15. Pictures of myself with my immediate and extended family (for home ties) 16. Birth certificate of myself and siblings 17. NIN data page of mom and International passport of dad (No birth certificate because they did not have)
Documents I later sent (through webforms x emails)
1. My upfront medicals on May 17 2. Affidavit to confirm my names are the same (had Oluwa... in my birth certificate but dropped it in secondary school) on May 20 3. A letter from my school confirming my offer was no longer conditional on June 14 4. An enquiry about my application and also attached a proof of registration via web form on July 27 5. I received an acknowledgment of the last web form Aug 9 6. I sent emails every week day from the end of September and October. I also copied the minister’s office in one. I got a response after a month from his office that I had passed background and medicals but eligibility hadn’t been decided (in October) 7. I started classes online in September. I sent proof of enrollment in October via email.
This process was excruciating. I don’t do well with waiting. I’m grateful it has ended. By the mercy and favour of God, things worked out for MY GOOD! It felt like I was running out of time but God was perfecting everything.
I saw a confession here that I used to say regularly. I also had one from the Bible - Genesis 39:21
21 But the Lord was with Joseph (I PERSONALIZED THIS), and shewed him (HER) mercy, and gave him (HER) favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison (CANADIAN VISA OFFICERS AND IMMIGRATION OFFICERS).
This journey is not for the faint hearted but I’m really grateful for the mercy and favour of God. All glory to God. I couldn’t have done it in my own strength!
Am I in a dream? This is surreal! Thank you Jesus. I’m really grateful to God for perfecting this testimony. I pray for those trusting God for an approval. He won’t fail you. Congratulations in advance. I celebrate with you.
PS: I wrote this timeline months ago as a declaration of my faith in the sovereign power of God. Thank you Jesus for a dream come true. |

Congratulations! May Canada favour you! badmanjo: I began this amazing and stressful journey 6 months ago, without even knowing who would sponsor me. An Uncle of mine then gingered me that Canada was the truth and the way for the youths now and promised to make sure the dream was accomplished... I tried to make use of a well known agency In Lagos but their bill was quite much so I decided the money was best spent elsewhere. I then Began to focus more on Canadian study trends as it dawned on me that I would be processing this application myself. I read Nairaland trends from part 17 and now it's in part 20. I gathered all I could get my hands on just to make sure I submitted this application April 2nd but still I felt it wasn't good enough.... Things like 3rd party sponsorship, me not submitting a personal bank statement and also not having any land Documents in my name became my biggest fear.... But then I met Sam from Nairaland also, who was also going to the same school as me, and he encouraged me to submit..... Cutting the long story short.... The application was approved yesterday and glory be to God.... Thank you also Sam for all you did mehn, you are really a friend turned brother.... Also want to appreciate everyone here including the gurus as every single thing I used for my application was gotten from here.... What God cannot do dosent exist and I ask anyone who hasn't gotten a decision yet to keep the faith and whoever was denied to keep trying..... I'll be sharing my timeline soonest |

It appears the application had been approved already because few minutes after sending an email to the Nairobi office, the PPR dropped. Till now my Eligibility has not started, just shows final decision as approved. So sending mails may help.
Submitted Application May 17th Upfront Medicals July 22nd Correspondence letter and PPR August 27th
- A former colleague stood as my sponsor and gave her statement - I included nothing showing personal assets (been out of work for over a year, so no bank statement) - I am going for a PhD program (fully funded) - I applied with my spouse (still awaiting his PPR)

Congratulations! May Canada favour your family! funmihero: Hi all,
It’s my first time dropping a message here. I just want to share our timeline to encourage someone as I have been encouraged. Admission: My husband(40years) got a PhD position, Uni. of Manitoba.
Location: Sweden on post-study resident permit as at the time we submitted our application, with 2 kids. Application submitted: June 13th Biometrics: June 21st Medicals: Not required Visa Approved: July 26th, no update on our applications till approval date
Documents submitted:
HUBBY: Letter of Admission LOE: 6pages, well organized in short topics, with emphases on academic history. We both started our education in Nigeria in a scarce profession (2002) at the diploma level. He finished his first degree at OAU, Ile-Ife, 2010 through DE, we both finished our masters, last year June in Sweden, fully sponsored. He leveraged the non-availability of the course in Nigeria and 95% of African countries (at graduate levels) as a strong link to Nija and Africa and prospect back home. We added links to the latest advert for our profession in academics that there are no qualified persons to fill up. And several other links to how we have been contributing to the development of our profession in Nigeria.
POF: Approximately 65k CAD, account in naira (salary and savings account) and Swedish kronor, CAC certificate of a newly established company (late last year, with no financial transaction), a letter of support from his cousin who committed to offering her basement for our accommodation and a spare car for transportation, no properties, or assets. Certificates: All relevant certificates and the scholarship certificate from Sweden, IELTS, CV. Family document form: All our siblings are still in Nigeria, both sides. IELTS MYSELF LOE: Corroborated our academic history, attached pictures from 2002 and recent family pics. Stated we put our funds together for hubby’s academic pursuit (because I did not make any affidavit for the lump sum I deposited in his account, but I wrote a description in the transaction, stating for “Ph.D. project support”. I mentioned how we have supported each other’s dreams and our successes in completing our masters at the same time despite we have 2 young children. I mentioned that the kids have never lived apart from either of us and we are excited that Canada is very proactive in encouraging family unity. We sha promise to leave the country when hubby’s study is done, etc Certificates: Hubby’s admission letter and all relevant certificates, IELTS, CV Travel history: Studied in India and returned immediately after. Yes, we mentioned that we stayed back in Sweden because we decided to put our family’s health and safety first….corona virus restrictions, etc.
Children: 7 and 4 years, we submitted the basic documents required with no extra attachment.
Above all, God’s grace prevailed. We know we couldn’t prove how we will continue to sustain ourselves, but we submitted in faith. I wish everyone the best in this new month. |

Wow! Congratulations! God is faithful! May Canada Favour her. Teenie19: Dear Nairaland family,
It has finally dropped ooooo! Glory be to God Almighty!!!!
Sister's application AOR: Feb 11 2021 Program: Practical nursing May 2021 (Sheridan college)- clearly can't go for May 2021 anymore due to delay, will go for Jan 2022 session! Upfront medical : April 28, 2021 ( we said let's do medical to see if it will speed things up, lol jokes) Medical passed: June 14, 2021 (just see how long it took them to update medical!) Eligibility started: July 23, 2021 PPR and correspondence letter: this morning July 27th @ 4:34am!
What a wait! Basically this application took 5 months and 16 days. I remember I considered withdrawing the application at some point, but you all encouraged me to hold on! During this waiting period, 3 gcms notes were ordered and the fourth one has been ordered as well. All the gcms notes received didn't have much info as eligibility was blank. Each time I got the gcms notes, I was always disappointed that eligibility was blank. Now that I think of it, I guess it's not a bad thing...
I just want to use this medium to thank everyone for their support through out this journey! This is a wonderful platform and we all draw strength and hope from one another! One thing that helped me during the long wait was seeing other people's approval postings. I was always encouraged by those success stories. I remember telling myself that my testimony was near when DD097 and demure got approved as we all applied around the same time and faced this delay..
In short, this is a wonderful platform and I hope more people get to know about the wonderful support we have here! Thanks to all the gurus and everyone that tries to assist others with their questions! If you have any questions for me , please feel free to ask here so others can learn from it ! I'm rooting for all my co- February applicants and any one with a delayed application and of course everyone on here , that you will all get a favourable response soon in Jesus name!
Cheers to more success stories ! |

Congratulations! It has ended in praise! We pray for more PPRs taminat: PPR! Third time is the charm.
I had extensive and clean travel history, employment history, solid proof of funds but i had zero home ties and to make matters “worse” i had just made a career change. My refusals were formed around home ties and purpose of visit which i unsuccessfully tried to address with SOPs and study plans for over two years. I couldn’t conjure home ties where there was none neither could i continue in my old career. I was at a fix and my second refusal baffled me so much that i angrily decided to push it to the back burner and carry on with my life and career as they were. Every single time that i had to declare these refusals on any visa application made me feel like a failure all over again. It felt like i had good intentions to study but because i had no immediate family member in nigeria i was been judged and also being punished for changing my career. I was helpless and i hated it!
As it is with strong desires regardless of passage of time, i found myself on this journey again more determined than my past and i secured 3 admissions. Winnipeg’s PACE was my preference but my admission came late after i had made my tuition deposit to my second choice. I decided to engage a consultant to do the rest because I didn’t want to be emotionally invested and bogged down like before so i refused to put myself through it again.
My personal and professional circumstances had changed over the years so we put our best foot forward. They drafted my sop, i reviewed it, made minute correction and approved it. We applied without nse requirements since co-sponsor didn’t have mbs. On the submission date, i prayed for speed and good news and specifically requested for my application to be finalized before the end of July. Today, i praise God from whom all blessings flow.
Application submitted-21st April Upfront medicals- 21st April Medicals updated-19th May Eligibility and ghost updates- i have no idea because i restrained myself from knowing Ppr- 21st July
Documents submitted Admission letter, 10k tuition deposit receipt Proof of funds- Real estate documents, employment documents of main sponsor and myself as well as bank statements, payslips, introduction letter, e.t.c total funds exceeded nse requirements. Personal documents such as birth and marriage certificates Academic documents
God bless everyone who answered my many questions and reviewed my sop’s even as far back as part 5 and everyone who gives back to this thread. Lekiboboe’s posts guided me in my program applications, Insanity’s 2020 post guided me in my pp submission today and so many other posts that have proven insightful and helpful. I hope everyone on this thread experiences even greater joy than i have today and those who have had refusals find the resilience and assistance needed for a successful reapplication. Amen. |

My special appreciation goes to God that made my dreams come to reality. He deserves all the glory. I also want to appreciate @JustMellow (gcmswriters) for his guidance and prompt approach in handling my LOE. I reached out to him when I received my notes thinking I could explain the lumpsums before a decision was made but refusal came some days after. JustMellow assisted in writing my LOE to address the financial concerns as well as reconstruct my SOP to address purpose of visit (studied engineering but going for business management course). God bless you and cause his face to shine upon you. Going for a 2yr PG certificate. Thank you to everyone for their selfless contributions on this thread. The advices, comments and testimonies kept me going even when it looked like all hope was lost. Thank you for the congratulatory messages. God bless you all.
PS: I was able to reapply 3 days after my initial refusal because I already had my GCMS notes and had addressed the concerns in my LOE. All PPR hopefuls will testify soon by God’s grace. |
