DrMB: New data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) shows that between April 2025 and April 2026, the price of a 12.5kg cooking gas cylinder spiked across almost every single geopolitical zone in Nigeria, with one surprising exception. While the North-Central and North-East zones saw massive jumps of up to 18%, the South-East actually recorded a 2.17% drop in prices. 👇 LET'S TALK! Which state/zone are you buying from right now, and how much is a 12.5kg refill at your local station? Are these official numbers matching your reality on the ground? Literature › Re: Short Story: That Was The Last Thing Any Of Us Ever Saw by DataDoc: 12:43pm On May 14 |
tonystark007: It was today! Everyone called it the biggest crusade the community have ever seen.
My cousins, my uncle, his wife & my baby brother, watched silently as I wore my “Christian clothes” & prepared for revenge against the infidels
But I was confused. Christians didn’t unalive my parents. Terr0rists did.
My name is Amira, I’m 15.
5 years ago, terrorists wiped out my village in Borno. My parents hid my little brother & I inside a dry well while they were brutally murdered outside.
I watched everything.
Watched them beat my father badly, and tied him up, while they violated my mother one by one before finally cvtting off her head.
Then they cvt off his legs, set him on fir3 & laughed as he bvrned to d3ath
I pressed my brother tightly to my chest, covering his eyes and blocking his ears from my father’s screams.
After that night, survivors brought us to Lagos, where my uncle Bashiru and his wife raised us. Slowly, I learned to smile again.
Until Kabiru arrived and everything changed.
One morning, I caught him staring at me strangely, and goosebumps covered my body. I never liked him, so I warned my brother, now 10, to stay away from him but he never listened.
They were always together & Kabiru kept taking him to the mosque & teaching him to pray.
I began to feel my uncle and aunt were afraid of him because before then, going to the mosque had always been optional. Nobody forced religion on us, and I only prayed when I wanted to. They were Muslims mostly in name.
But suddenly, everything changed. I had to cover my head with a hijab, wear Muslim clothes, and pray constantly.
Then one night, after speaking privately with my uncle and aunt, Kabiru told me it was finally time to avenge my parents.
I was happy… For five years, I had dreamed about revenge. Maybe Kabiru wasn’t so bad after all if he cared enough about my parents to want justice for them.
But my aunt was crying, and my uncle refused to look me in the eye. I was confused. Wasn’t he happy that his brother would finally be avenged?
Until he explained how.
There would be a crusade in one week. I was to wear a b0mb vest, disguise myself as a Christian, and detonate it during the altar call. Sending as many infidels to he|| as possible
“Wait… what?” I looked at my uncle and aunt but they looked away
Then, he said, I would wake up in heaven as a virgin, married to a warrior & prince, while my parents would be honored because of my sacrifice.
“I don’t understand. U want me to ki|| myself & innocent people? But they didn’t do anything to—”
The slap that followed nearly blinded me. He was shouting but I couldn’t hear. My ear was ringing badly. Gradually, his words became clearer.
He said Lagos has spoiled me & he wished I had di3d with my parents in Borno cos I had become a disgrace and was no longer a true Muslim.
I stood up crying & said no. I told him I’d never become a svicide b0mb3r or unalive innocent people cos I’m not a monster.
He laughed…
Next thing, he started b3ating me. He kick3d me repeatedly until I could barely stand, then dragged me into my room & violated me the same way my mother was violated 5 years ago.
The next morning, he returned with six others whom he called my cousins. One wore a mask.
One after another, they violated me.
When the sixth man was on top of me, as he was vibrating and shaking, his mask slipped off, and I saw his face.
It was uncle Bashiru!
I refused to cry. My silence became my only weapon. My only act of defiance.
So I stared directly into his eyes the same way my mother had stared at those terrorists years ago and said nothing.
Afterward, Kabiru warned me: “If you refuse again, your little brother will take your place.”
That was when I remembered the last thing my parents ever told me:
“Protect your brother, Amira.”
So I whispered: “Okay. I’ll do it.”
He smiled. One by one, they left.
Uncle Bashiru never spoke to me again after that night. Neither did my aunt. She only brought food and water to my room while avoiding my eyes in shame and guilt.
That’s how I knew she knew exactly what her husband had done.
And now, it was today.
Kabiru was showing me how to activate the b0mb. The vest was already strapped tightly to my body. One of the same cousins who had violated me was the one who fastened it.
The others sat around smiling casually, making jokes and small talk. They told me not to worry because my virginity would be restored once I reached heaven. They said my parents and my new husband would be proud of me.
Uncle Bashiru and his wife just watched silently.
Kabiru explained that I should wait until what the infidels called the altar call or testimony session was happening.
Then I would walk forward as if I wanted to give my life to Isa or share a testimony. At that moment, I was to shout, “Allahu Akbar,” and activate the vest.
Then they asked if I had any last wish.
Quietly, I nodded and asked to see my brother.
He walked in slowly. His eyes were swollen, and I knew he had been crying.
I hugged him tightly and asked him to do one last favor for me.
He nodded.
So I told him to go buy shawarma and Cold Stone ice cream for us so we could eat together. One final supper.
He smiled immediately. Those were his favorite things. Mine too.
Uncle Bashiru handed him money, and he rode off on his bike.
The moment I heard the gate close, I looked around the room again.
I no longer saw family. Only monsters. No different than the terr0rists who destroyed my village and unalived my parents.
I checked the time. Ten minutes had passed since my brother left.
“Amira,” Kabiru called, “do not fail us. You know what will happen if you do.”
They were all staring at me, waiting for a response.
I looked at every single one of them and smiled back.
Then I shouted:
“Allahu Akbar!”
The fear on their faces…the shock!
The satisfaction…
That was the last thing any of us ever saw as I detonated the b0mb.
The End

Health › Re: The Dangerous Trend Of Using Interns In Our Public Hospitals! by DataDoc: 4:46pm On May 12 |
AngelSlay: While the concern for patient safety is valid, the conversation also needs balance.
Interns in public hospitals are not simply “students being used to replace staff.” In many healthcare professions, internship is a compulsory transition stage between classroom learning and full professional practice. Doctors, pharmacists, nurses, medical laboratory scientists, physiotherapists, and others cannot become competent professionals without supervised hands-on experience with real patients.
The real issue is not the existence of interns — it is poor supervision, understaffing, and weak healthcare funding.
Public hospitals in Nigeria are often overwhelmed. Many facilities are dealing with staff shortages caused by migration of healthcare workers, delayed recruitment, poor salaries, and inadequate government funding. In that environment, interns sometimes end up carrying responsibilities beyond what should normally be assigned to them. That is a systemic failure, not proof that internship itself is dangerous.
Completely removing interns from direct patient interaction is also unrealistic. Healthcare is learned through practice. A medical doctor cannot become confident by only observing from a distance. A pharmacist must eventually interact with prescriptions. A nurse must handle patients under supervision. The key phrase is under supervision.
Many of the fully licensed professionals being demanded today were once interns who needed experienced mentors to guide them.
Rather than calling for an end to interns participating in patient care, the focus should be on:
Ensuring proper supervision by senior professionals
Hiring more permanent healthcare workers
Improving hospital funding
Creating clear boundaries for what interns can and cannot do
Holding hospital management accountable when interns are overworked or left unsupervised
Blaming interns alone risks targeting young professionals who are also victims of a struggling healthcare system. The solution is to fix the structure that forces them into roles they were never meant to handle alone. Patient safety matters, but so does building the next generation of competent healthcare professionals. THIS IS THE BEST RESPONSE SO FAR. Thank you very much for this. |

Health › Re: The Pharmacist Lowered Her Voice The Moment She Saw The ARVs. by DataDoc: 8:05pm On May 08 |
RetroviralS: The pharmacist lowered her voice the moment she saw the ARVs.
At first, the woman pretended not to notice.
She had already waited almost 40 minutes in a crowded pharmacy. People were close enough to hear anything said out loud.
When it got to her turn, she quietly handed over her prescription.
The pharmacist looked at it… then changed her tone immediately.
“Madam… come closer,” she said, lowering her voice.
That one whisper was enough.
Some people nearby turned to look.
The woman said she just felt small in that moment. Not because she did anything wrong, but because of how everything suddenly changed.
She took her drugs and left quietly.
But on her way home, she kept thinking about one thing:
“If some healthcare workers make people feel like this… how many will just stop coming?”
That stayed with me.
Because for many people living with HIV in Nigeria, it’s not only about the illness.
It’s the silence.
The fear of being seen. The fear of being talked about. The way people’s tone changes once they see the drugs.
And sometimes, one small moment like that is enough for someone to avoid treatment.
The truth is simple.
The drugs help people live. But dignity is what keeps them coming back.
So the question is not just about having access to ARVs.
It is this:
How many people are quietly stopping treatment because of how they’re made to feel?
Nairaland family, what do you think? is stigma in healthcare getting better in Nigeria, or just going underground? I don't really get the point. Is she angry the pharmacist lowered her voice or what? And why is she waiting in a private pharmacy to buy ARVs she can easily obtain for free at any government hospital and even some health centres with little or no stigmatisation. |

IzunnaOkafor: By Izunna Okafor, Awka
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a five-member criminal gang, including a female suspect accused of luring commercial motorcyclists to isolated locations for robbery operations in Ihiala Local Government Area of the state.
The arrest was confirmed in a press statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who said the suspects were apprehended by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, during an early morning operation, which also led to the recovery of a firearm, stolen motorcycles and other incriminating items.
According to the statement, the five arrested suspects are identified as Sunday Chukwudebele, aged 22; Adaobi Udeze, aged 26; Chimezie Ifebi, aged 35; Kelvin Chukwuejike, aged 28; and Uzi Chukwuejike Williams Umeh, aged 26.
The police spokesman explained that the gang had been operating within Ihiala and surrounding areas, targeting commercial motorcyclists popularly known as Ọkada riders.
SP Ikenga revealed that preliminary investigation showed that the female suspect, Adaobi, played a key role in the gang’s activities by posing as a passenger and deceiving unsuspecting motorcycle operators to lonely routes and hideouts, where other members of the gang would emerge to attack the victims and dispossess them of their motorcycles and personal belongings. He added that the method had enabled the gang to carry out several robbery operations before their arrest.
The police further disclosed that items recovered from the suspects include one locally made Beretta pistol, three Qlink motorcycles of the 150 Tiger model suspected to have been stolen, as well as a red-coloured face mask believed to have been used during their operations. The Command noted that the recovery of the exhibits would assist ongoing investigations aimed at uncovering other members of the syndicate and possible victims.
Reacting to the development, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the operatives of the Rapid Response Squad for their swift response and professionalism, stressing that the Command remains determined to rid the state of criminal elements threatening the safety of residents.
The Police Commissioner, according to the statement, assured members of the public that the Command would continue to intensify operations across the state, particularly in areas where criminal gangs target commercial transport operators and other vulnerable persons. He also urged commercial motorcyclists and residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements to the nearest police station or security agency.
The Police Public Relations Officer added that the suspects are currently in custody and will be charged to court after the completion of investigations, even as the Command also reiterated its commitment to sustaining ongoing security operations aimed at ensuring the protection of lives and property across Anambra State. Toolegit123: Good day everyone.
So recently I've been thinking about marriage. Tho I'm in a relationship but the woman I've been dating doesn't really seem to have the same serious interest and intentions like me. I've talked to her severally but it seems she isn't ready to settle down yet. Imagine this is someone whom I've gone to see her people and they know me well. My own people know her too. I've equally talked to her mom since she's the one parent she has . And had also talked to her best friend about it too.
But one thing I've noticed about her is that she's over religious and seems to be too close to her pastor. The last time I talked to her about the marriage stuff, she directed me to go and talk to her pastor. Tho I was initially furious about it but I just had to man up,kill my pride and decided to pay her pastor a visit.
From the conversation I had with her pastor,it seems he's one of the major stumbling blocks. Because he was only curious about my financial status he was even asking me what was my source of livelihood, and of which I told him. Afterwards,he then asked me what was my monthly salary. Saying if I'm sure I can take care of my fiancee with that amount,or if I'm planning to have a side hustle. That he doesn't want a case where any of her spiritual daughter will go into a marriage where she'll be suffering. I told her categorically clear that I'm not a lazy man and I don't intend to put anyone's daughter into suffering in the name of marriage.
It's been over a week since I left the pastor's office, and since then,my fiancee has been behaving so cold towards me.
So I don't know whether to continue with my proposal or I should just kindly look for another lady to marry. Move on. You're not the one she's looking for. She wants a ready made billionaire husband. |
