The Lagos State Safety Commission has shut the multi-billion multi-national shopping outlet, Shoprite located at the Ikeja Shopping Mall, Ikeja, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, for allegedly breaching safety law.

Officials of the commission were said to have stormed Shoprite on Friday afternoon and drove everyone out and sealed off the massive premises, placing a seal order at the entrance.

The seal order notice read: “Sealed, this premises has been sealed following the breach of safety law. This seal must not be broken. For further enquiries, contact the Commission.”

When P.M.NEWS visited the place Friday night, many customers who did not know that the place had been shut were stranded outside the premises.

Efforts to get the Director General of the commission to speak on the matter proved abortive as he was not available to attend to our correspondent.

However, a source in the commission told P.M.NEWS that the place was shut for failing to abide by the safety laws of the state.

The source said there had been complaints by members of the public about adulterated and expired products being sold in the outlet, adding that investigation was also carried out before the place was shut.

P.M.NEWS investigation revealed that some products that were supposed to expire in one month’s time were found on the shelves of Shoprite in Ikeja.

A customer, who craved anonymity, said she once bought expired milk at Shoprite, saying that the closure of the outlet was long overdue.

There have also been complaints by others about expired products at various Shoprite outlets.

Officials of Shoprite have been asked to report at the commission’s office on Monday while the outlet remains shut throughout the weekend.

A customer, who simply called herself Nike, said she was disappointed that the place was shut down as she wanted to purchase certain items for the weekend, while others also expressed disappointment that Shoprite could breach safety standard.

Efforts to speak to Shoprite officials proved abortive as none of them was available to speak to our correspondent.

Shoprite, which is listed on Namibia Stock Exchange and Zambian Stock Exchange is a South African-based retail and fast food company. It operates over 1,200 corporate and 270 franchise outlets in 16 countries across Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands.

The Shoprite Group of companies started from South Africa small town beginnings in 1979 with the purchase of a chain of 8 supermarkets in Cape Town for 1 million Rand.

The next 30 years were marked by various acquisitions and innovative expansion strategies that brought it to the R72 billion business that Shoprite is today.

My final question. I have a load of 1.5 kW that I would want to power for 10 to 11 hrs. I have a 3.5kVa inverter (48V) and 4 12V 200AH deep cycle batteries connected in series. How long would it last?
PS Talking through how the answer is arrived at would be very helpful. I might want to play around.

1 . Four Academic Sessions (Years) will earn you B.sc and M.sc respectively while Only Two Academic Session (years) will Earn you Just B.sc,alone !!!





In Nigeria,Four Academic Sessions is just B.sc, If ASUU yearly strike is held constant, else, Four years would be 6 years ........


Why is Two Years for B.sc In most advanced Nation Translate to Four years in Nigeria ? (Failure Number 1)




2. We discussed Course Modules,Orientation and Means of delivering Knowledge and I was made to Realise most of their(UK/US) courses are Research Based ............. E.g If U are Offering Accounting 101 which is principle of accounting ........ One must have a company,enterprise or supermarket where the practicablility of ACC 101 will be acquired and same goes for most courses Theory and Practicability goes hand in hand as well as Presentation of Findings

And like someone rightly said, if you have the opportunity of attending even the lowly ranked in the Uk or US, you will not even ask this kind of question again.
You want the real university education, pls go abroad. You want paper qualifications and theories that are outdated and not revelant to modern day society, go to a nigerian university (especially the public one, cant say much about the private yet).
Tasted Uk education once, I vowed never to have anymore dealings with Nigerian university system.
We have not even started the journey to have any amongst the best in Africa, it will take serious divine intervention & human determination to even get to the bottom of the list you are looking at.



i.e You will see it firsthand how ACC 101 is being applied in companies,Businesss et all .......


When U are done with Field Research, U will present your findings using PowerPoint and Projector ...... Research Project begins from the scratch !!!



In Nigeria, don't even talk about our copy and paste Projects .....Only Few Ph.D Research are real as for B.sc/M.sc na .......


Examination in Nigeria has always been La Cram La Pour and heavily Theoretical based without/with little Practical Experience!!! ......


Most Nigerian Graduate do not excel in INTERVIEW because the school never prepare them for one .......



In Nigeria, School only served as Orientation camp as most of the knowledge U acquired in School have little Relevance on the Job why .... Trends in Business Change Everyday while Lecture Note of Nigerian Lecturers only change every 5-10 years


During my Early years in the University,I tried forming Efiwe by Writing outside my Lecturer's note ........ Which I will never do again most especially in Nigeria ......I never knew U must give back what U were given !!!

A Nigerian Graduate who wants to compete with Graduates of First 100 Universities in the world Must be ready to develop himself outside the School by Incorporating recent trends in your discipline and understand the rudiments


The Lecturers doesn't even care about students psychology .........What is Carry-over,what is spill,what is splash ....... Any student that failed a course should come back and resit during the Holiday instead of loading such with unnecessary volumes in normal session ....... A poor student failed a course instead of helping him/her out for society sake by resit while others are ahome, he/she will be loaded with more avenue to fail !!!


Nigerian Universities are still quite far from ist 1000 in the world and not 100

pdozie: Hi Dave, good insight. Please can you explain how the DC bulbs work. I mean for example,, the Inverter (or power grid) supply AC current. Do I need run another parallel wiring per bulb for the DC bulbs - since the load wouldn't pass through the inverter?. I assume it will be powered directly from the batteries? If so, doesn't it mean that there wont be any regulation for over draining the batteries? And what are the costs (say for the 4W DC bulb?)

The earlier we accept we are no more a great soccer nation, the better it will be for us. Who cares that our fathers won the cup twice in the 60s? We are now in the 21st Century. Our fathers' generation is almost all dead. We need to do something for ourselves and stop living on the glories of past generations.

atiku07: guy u seems to be de most unbiased of all here. I stay in sokoto and was at de same wamako local government last sunday it was total blackout in dat area I mean a whole local govt. Headquarters dat apart. There was a transformer in dat area before all the incidence of power failure like datransformer got blown and nepa was contacted to repair de transformer of which dey did and three days later it got blown up again and now de governor tought it's wise to get a brand knew one cause he asked dis same nepa official wat was de cause of de blown repaired transformer and was told de contractor used fake materials in repairing de transformer and he said ok he should bring quotation for new one which was 17 millon naira o! And he was paid in full only for him to bring in de new transformer and it got blown up de third day again which means owo ti wo igbo lol and de guy was summoned again and he even have de effontrey to be telling de governor dat the transformer was a bad one men nepa guys funny die ! Na so governor provoke carry bulala wey hin keep besde am lol begin wipe nepa manager o! De thing no easy. Nepa has always been like dat trying 2 fleece ppl at every little chance, de guy tought he was chopping national cake haahahaha. Can u imagine a stepdown transformer got blown up and their kaduna office asked them to come and pick another one and all dey do was tell ppl in the zones using the transformer to contribute 10 million naira to transport it from kaduna. And that was why I support bart nnaji scrapping dem all. Mtcheewwwww

The salary your friend will be earning in the UK, will be far better than what he could earn in Nigeria.

There's more to life than money, so your friend should seek the counsel of God on the issue. If I was him, I would definitely not miss an opportunity to relocate abroad because there are better Oppurtunities here.
