Thank you Op and God bless you. I didn't see the thread and do not plan to see it either. You can be sure there many of such here on Nairaland always twisting God's Word and also attacking the Church or anyone that represents Christ. The gates of hell will surely not prevail and we pray for as many that have taken in the lies in that thread, to be delivered from the deception of Satan therein.
The end is truly here, let the true believers keep their garment cleans, backsliders, know that there is room for repentance and those that have not experienced Jesus, come and encounter him, you will be glad for all eternity.

You are everything that's wrong with the Nigerian Christian. If you were asked to make a statement without referencing the Bible, I doubt you'd be able to... Your mind is worth more than a few Bible verse. The world is bigger than Genesis-Revelations. The Internet is not your church. Learn to learn from everyone. It will help you be more like Jesus. Not noisy and showy like the Pharisees and Saducees.
So glad to see that you know Jesus exists and has a differing nature from the Pharisees and Saducees of His day! I strongly suspect that deep within you there is a silent cry to know him. I pray that you encounter Him soon!

Foreign Affairs / Re: Brexit: Theresa May To Officially Trigger Article 50 Today by dave07(m): 9:30am On Mar 29, 2017
Chukwuka16:
The night of Brexit would ever remain green in my memory. Past midnight there was this certainty that vote remain would have it. Even farage and Boris had subtly conceded defeat, but the results from Wales was the tie breaker and by morning those who left to France the previous day returned by principle to a non-EU country. The result was catastrophic. GBP took a serious bashing and crashed to records low. As article 50 is being triggered it's important we begin assessing it's impact and the subtle opportunities it's going to create. How will education be affected. What incentives would be available for businesses since they would need to provide some incentives for their companies like tax rebates etc to cushion the effects of leaving the free market. How can we tap into this market and benefit maximally should be up for discussion. I see some peeps arguing that UK isn't Nigeria. It would do us a lot good if we just keep an open mind and learn from others as the world is only separated geographically. In essence it's a global village.
Furthermore UK would be re-negotiating alot of trade deals with fellow EU countries and would obviously be looking for deals that offer it the best value. Nations like South Africa would be looking to boost their exports of wine etc to the UK. Nigeria that wants to recover from recession and diversify her economy has been aware since referendum day of this day. Instead of getting our house in order to compete with South America in exporting things like mango and pawpaw and increasing our market share of other products was rather getting our beans banned to EU due to lack of proper management and due diligence.
Brits are cautious now. Spending is dropping and credits are increasing. Scotland is around the corner tinkering with the idea of another referendum to leave the UK and the economy is expected to contract up to 2% this year. With this uncertainty the government would no doubt want to encourage spending to stimulate the economy. Furthermore to keep London attractive would take alot by the government as many EU companies may be forced to relocate their HQs from London to maybe Paris or Brussels or Berlin etc to remain in the free market.
I'm willing to learn from advanced minds on this platform the paradigm shift and economic implications of triggering article 50. What opportunities are there for entrepreneurs and academics. These are my interests and would welcome further enlightenment.
would be glad to know more of these too. In addition how would Brexit favour migration of skilled workers from sub Saharan African Countries like Nigeria?
Will Brexit allow for a level playing with other EU nationals in this regard and are we really in a position to adequately compete with them in the UK skills demand in a post Brexit environment.
Will also like to see how the blue channel will be eliminated at UK airports

I am a proud muslima, a devoted one at that. But I also like being honest at all times.

Nonetheless, I think I may be forced to have a rethink and retrace my steps regarding the darkly controversial nature of the religion I believe.

A separate section was created for the mulims so that they wil be able to discuss better and have their thoughts well organised, but why can't same be said for the Christians?

Is Nairaland actively upholding tribalism/favouritism, or what? The same Nairaland that included in its laws that we should not disregard people's race, tribe, religion?

Talk about blatant hypocrisy. Honestly, I find it very irksome that I'm first required to accept the "islamic proclamation of Allah being the only true sovereign presiding over the whole universe", each time I want to drop a comment on an islamic thread.

Please, Seun needs to look into this matter, and see to it that it is appropriately resolved.

However, I don't honestly care much though, because this one-sided system only stands to prove that Islams are afraid of their vague, sphinx-like beliefs being subjected under the powerful lens of thorough scrutiny and questioning and being brought into the glory of light. Their greatest fear is that once rational people begin to invade their threads unrestrained, then gradually, their lies will be pointed out, one by one, in the glaring eyes of all.
Thank you so much for being honest.
oga Seun over to you

Finally, all your solar-controller-battery will either work well or underwork if you fail to get your wiring correct. It is not just a matter of 6mm or 10 yards. For effective charging the rule states that the maximum voltage drop between the panel and the inverter should not exceed 3%. To achieve that you must get your cabling right or else, you waste money.
Yes lightning protection is very necessary and the MPPT crew should know that at certain voltages and battery connection a surge protection is a must,( classical example-midnite solar).
Above all Solar pass theory o, you must do it practically to know it as you should. To those asking for where to learn, start here and look out for practical installation. God bless you all.
I'd be glad to answer question with the OP, I dey fear to call that name sef

SOLAR PANEL

For panels, I think any panel will do. All the consumer has to do is ensure that the ratings are accurate. Ask the seller to test the Short Circuit Current and Voltage for you and once done, multiply the current (I) by the Voltage (V) to see if it is close to or same as the panel power ratings in Watts. After confirming this, just take your panel home ensuring you prevent it from damage during transport and installation, and you should be good to go. Solar panels last for as much as 20 - 25 years or more. Though in dry seasons and dusty areas, they require cleaning once in a while. However, in rainy seasons, rainfalls can help you clean them up.

My products are 2 of 300W/24V panels. Quite heavy and large.

Someone asked me to help him acquire his own system and i therefore want to get inputs from Nairalander before making my decisions on brands to go for. So I ask that users of solar system come in and give their bitter or good experience using brands of batteries, inverters, charge controllers and solar panels. And also, mods please take us to front page for more contributions
I agree 100% with poster who played down the emphasis on thw superiority of mono over poly. Maybe you should look at the doc he attached, It's high time we began to adapt the tbeories we ve read to suit our environment. That aside the issue of shading of the solar cell must be taken seriously if you are going to enjoy solar and correct information must be given too. There are standards in the solar industry, believing a panel of 200W @24V will give 7.25A is incorrect for instance. Check the name plate, do a little load test, a dc clamp on is a necessity for every DIY solar enthusiasts &prfessionals. Take the rated and short circuit current given at the back of the solar module very seriously. If for instance you see a figure of 4.5A and 4.85A given as rated & short circuit, then know that if the highset sunshine comes out and stay for one hour you wont get more than 4AH . If you have such light for 5hour with one module, assuming other things constant you woulld have harvested 4*5=20Ah with diffuse radiation and time of intermittent shadowing, the highest you'd do with one module will be around 26Ah. If your battery is 200Ah and gets depleted to say 50% dod, then you ve got a long way to go if you dont increase the number of modules you put out there. The fact that your panel has 200W doesnt mean it will give you 200W, that rating is at STC, look for NOCT ratings which are a little but more realistic and be mindful of temperature cos your panel performance decreases with temoerature increase, this is naija not America!

CHARGE CONTROLLER

In this case, I use a Chinese product and it did get faulty whenever my batteries discharge below the Low Voltage Disconnection Protection (LDP). I've changed this product twice (within six months) due to the guarantee period given by the guy that sold it to me. From its pack, it is more of a nameless product.

For charge controllers, TriStar is expensive but as usual will give you value for your money. I neither know nor have I heard much about Indian brands of Charge Controllers. Although I've used one in the past which worked pretty well and always tells me when I should switch off my inverter by a red signal light. Will get the name later and post on this thread.
So sorry for your experience with the CC. If I can recollect very well, I have used the controller shown more than 5 times and had no issue, the user interface/digital display and higher amperage made it a choice for me over the morning star PWM and BP solar CC I gad been used to un the past. No, it is not nameless but was brought into the country by Roysolar ( A chinese outfit at Fedan plaza Alaba), the company started well with good product with outstanding quality but in recent time has been tilting towards the Alaba 'factor' but when you know what you need they will give it to you. Roy & Ezi Blessed are my only trusted vendors in Alaba.
on MPPT, you'd be surprised that most product being branded online are MPPT by name & PWM by design, for most application in Nigeria, with the weather we have, I consider MPPT CC not necessary, maybe if someone will show me ab appreciable difference in the daily sun harvest using an MPPT CC and PWM CC in naija, I'll have a change of mind

BATTERIES

This one seems to be the major problem people are likely to encounter when going solar. There are so many brands of batteries out there but getting a cheap one that will last long is quit difficult. I'm using 2 of 12V/200Ah PowerTek Deep Cycle batteries, of which one of them is giving me issues just within 6 months of purchase. One of the batteries never gets beyond 10.7 volts after full charge (and during initial us sage) while the other reaches 12.9V after full charge and during initial discharge. The man I bought it from asked me to have a car battery charger to charge the faulty one separately but I've not had the chance for that yet.

I've heard about Luminous, Synergy and Su-Kam batteries and from what I heard, they are pretty ok, although expensive. A friend of mine that works for a Solar system coy told me that the top three Indian products in Nigeria are the strongest ones among the Indian ones. And that they hardly get complains from consumers in that regards. My brother has used Luminous battery for 18 months and it appears to still be working fine while his Luminous Inverter seems to be faulty after using it for 18 months.

TriStar is expensive but better than the Indian batteries though.

One of the top Chinese brands in Nigeria is Mercury. I've not used it before, but based on what my bro said, he was like people that he knows that use it don't complain. It's quit cheap and in same range as some lower end Indian products in terms of prices.
On batteries the truth of the matter is that every battery produced has a life cycle that ia determined by the number of charge/discharge recorded. Most of the batteries in today's market do not come with this information because they are sub-standard, the likes of Zenith, Ritar, Luminous, etc are more favoured because by experience people have come to know them. I have had my bad days with luminous batteries though the good experiences have been more. The most expensive item with the shortest lifespan in an Off-grid RE system is the battery and you can't afford to throw money away just like that. But if you really really want to go for batteries try out the 2V or 6V high amperage deep cycle batteries. Even a fairly used (decommissioned ) set of this type will last you longer and better than the popular 12V modular brands

Great thread and sincerity by the OP
INVERTER

Firstly, I'm using Microtek (1.6KVa/24V) Pure Sinewave Inverter which is a very strong one and is almost getting to it's sixth month. Why I classify it as a strong inverter is that on several occasions, I've had it plugged into a socket that feeds off itself mistakenly but it hasn't developed any fault at all. From what I've heard, this can outrightly damage an inverter. I've been more careful these days but as you all know it, mistakes are bound to happen and I usually tend to repeat it once in a while. By the way, it's made in India.

I've heard about Indian brands like Su-Kam, Luminous and Synergy. These set seems to be the high end Indian products and from what I've heard, it seems they do their work well tho might be costlier than others. My bro used his Luminous Inverter for 18 months before it developed fault.. I've heard only very little about other brands like MPower, SoccerPower, etc. From what I heard about these other inverters, they are ok.

From the person I purchased my solar system, I got to hear of American brand called TriStar. Quit expensive but does it job outstandingly well.
There is a need to clarify the two main types of inverters in the market today. 1. The high frequency inverters pure or modified sine wave, inexpensive and relatively light in weight. If all you want is lighting, TV, decoder, fans and the likes, then go for this.
2. The low frequency inverters, pure or modified sinewave, more expensive, bulky with more weight. If you are considering more inductive load like refrigerators, electric motor or compressor based application, in addition to the load listed above then you are good with thus.
Most inverters in the market today incorpoates a battery charging element which enable you to recharge your depleted battery once there is mains power. On suitable brand, the indian brand I agree are more preffered though more expensive plus the fact that the input voltage range IMO are most ti es unnecessarily outrageous! For instance 12V is limited to less than 1KVA, 24V limited to 2.4KVA, anything rating higher than this goes for 48V, 96, and even 120V whereas you will still get an American Spec (e.g Outback) of 5KVA rating with 24V input. There are locally built inverter and Chinese inverters less than 2KVA that can easily be purchased within a tight budget and yet perform well. The only edge Luminous, Sukam & co have (IMO) is the availability of after sales repairs and services offered

http://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/lagos-shuts-shoprite-over-breach-of-safety-law/
The Lagos State Safety Commission has shut the multi-billion multi-national shopping outlet, Shoprite located at the Ikeja Shopping Mall, Ikeja, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, for allegedly breaching safety law.

Officials of the commission were said to have stormed Shoprite on Friday afternoon and drove everyone out and sealed off the massive premises, placing a seal order at the entrance.

The seal order notice read: “Sealed, this premises has been sealed following the breach of safety law. This seal must not be broken. For further enquiries, contact the Commission.”

When P.M.NEWS visited the place Friday night, many customers who did not know that the place had been shut were stranded outside the premises.

Efforts to get the Director General of the commission to speak on the matter proved abortive as he was not available to attend to our correspondent.

However, a source in the commission told P.M.NEWS that the place was shut for failing to abide by the safety laws of the state.

The source said there had been complaints by members of the public about adulterated and expired products being sold in the outlet, adding that investigation was also carried out before the place was shut.

P.M.NEWS investigation revealed that some products that were supposed to expire in one month’s time were found on the shelves of Shoprite in Ikeja.

A customer, who craved anonymity, said she once bought expired milk at Shoprite, saying that the closure of the outlet was long overdue.

There have also been complaints by others about expired products at various Shoprite outlets.

Officials of Shoprite have been asked to report at the commission’s office on Monday while the outlet remains shut throughout the weekend.

A customer, who simply called herself Nike, said she was disappointed that the place was shut down as she wanted to purchase certain items for the weekend, while others also expressed disappointment that Shoprite could breach safety standard.

Efforts to speak to Shoprite officials proved abortive as none of them was available to speak to our correspondent.

Shoprite, which is listed on Namibia Stock Exchange and Zambian Stock Exchange is a South African-based retail and fast food company. It operates over 1,200 corporate and 270 franchise outlets in 16 countries across Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands.

The Shoprite Group of companies started from South Africa small town beginnings in 1979 with the purchase of a chain of 8 supermarkets in Cape Town for 1 million Rand.

The next 30 years were marked by various acquisitions and innovative expansion strategies that brought it to the R72 billion business that Shoprite is today.

Great challenge, good initiatives. Less talk and more action like this is needed
Every other thing about the DC freezer can be locally sourced except the DC compressor. Some Chinese company bringing in the freezer deliberately removed any name plate info that can link you with the DC compressor manufacturer.
Secondly can we begin to challenge engineering technicians to start getting interested in locally built inverters and also improve on the designs. More than 80% of people involved in renewable technologies such as solar power alternatives and the likes are non-Engineering graduates.

Computers / Re: Inverter Users : Lets Have Your Experience by dave07(m): 10:02pm On Jan 11, 2015
It's been quite a while but the thread keeps getting better
My final question. I have a load of 1.5 kW that I would want to power for 10 to 11 hrs. I have a 3.5kVa inverter (48V) and 4 12V 200AH deep cycle batteries connected in series. How long would it last?
PS Talking through how the answer is arrived at would be very helpful. I might want to play around.
With a load of 1.5kW your draw at the dc side is 31.25A, if you continue with this load for one hour, you'd have drawn 31.25Ah out of your 200Ah bank. Neglecting losses due to battery discharges and cabling and assuming you want to maintain a DoD of 50%, in order to lengthen your battery life, then you can only run this load successfully for 3hrs or 5hrs (worse case scenario & jettisoning DoD) before your inverter shuts down.
To achieve your goals you would need at least another parallel string of 200Ah 48V to bring your storage Ah to 400Ah minimum.
Alternatively you may work on your load, take lighting and some other load to dc with very low consumption, so that your overall consumption is considerably reduced.
Remember power at the dc side of your inverter=power at the ac side (theoretically speaking and assuming minimal losses) consequently current draw is a ratio of rated power to voltage. hope this helps

Politics / Re: "They Are Political Pr0stitutes"- Soyinka Blasts APC Leaders by dave07(m): 7:06pm On Dec 25, 2013
He said, “The APC has no plan to woo the youth whoconstitute more than 60% of the voting population. It is the belief of the leaders of both APC and PDP that the 2015 general election is going to be fixed by the traditional manipulators of elections. This is the basis of the ongoing mobilisation of the PDP chieftains including those who cannot win elections in their own wards.
And what has the youth got to say, nothing except to fight along political, religious and tribal divides on Nairaland and be used as pawns in the power game, as far as I am concerned, we are yet to have a political party in Nigeria!
