A school in Chibok reportedly destroyed by Boko Haram The report quoted Mark Lipdo, the executive director of the Stefanus Foundation, as saying: “14.8 million Nigerians from north-east are directly impacted by the crisis. Officially, there are 2.2 million internally displaced persons (IDPs). “Unofficially, there are five to seven million IDPs. Those in need of special assistance, are 2.5 million, comprising children under the age of five, pregnant women and nursing mothers.”According to him, 611 teachers died as a result of terrorism in the north east; 19,000 teachers were displaced, 1500 schools were closed down, 950,000 children were denied the opportunity of accessing education, 13,000 churches were abandoned, closed down or destroyed, 2000 children were abducted and 10,000 boys were forced to join Boko Haram. He added that the Global Terrorism index shows that Boko Haram is the world’s most lethal terrorist group, followed by ISIS, while Al-Qaeda ranks third and the Fulani militants mostly in the middle belt rank fourth. In his own remarks, the vice president of the 21st Wilberforce Initiative, Elijah Brown, added: “As of December 2015, there were 2,152,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Nigeria – the third highest figure in Africa and the seventh in the world.” Concerning the Fulani herdsmen, he said: “Without intervention, the crisis in the Middle Belt will continue to escalate. Some of the abducted Chibok girls in a recent Boko Haram video. “This could affect other countries in West African region like the Republic of Benin, Chad, Cameroon, Mali, and Niger.” Also speaking, Samson Ayokunle, the president of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, said: “The situation is looked upon by international bodies as the biggest humanitarian disaster all over the world. “A disturbing fact about the problem is that it has not received substantial humanitarian response from the world’s most powerful nations as other disasters of relatively smaller degrees in other parts of the world. “I am therefore calling on the world’s powerful nations to come to the aid of Nigeria in seeing to the end of insurgency. “Come to the aid of many victims of insurgency within and outside internally displaced people’s camps or homes; those who have been stripped naked, the jobless, the orphaned, those maimed and the widowed in Nigeria.” Meanwhile, the plight of IDPs has been a cause for concern as the network of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Borno state, has said there are claims that most female IDPs in the state have turned to prostitution to survive. the third highest figure in Africa and the seventh in the world.

http://davesblog.over-blog.com/2016/09/breaking-supreme-court-affirms-yahaya-bello-as-the-winner-of-kogi-election.html. The Supreme Court gave its verdict on the Kogi election tussle today, September 20 – The decision of the apex court favoured Governor Yahaya Bello – The camp of the governor is already in jubilant mood The Supreme Court has affirmed the election of Governor Yahaya Bello as the authentic governor of Kogi state, Justice Kekere Ekun who pronounced the judgement said Honourable James Faleke’s appeal lacks merit and thereby dismissed. She also said that the ruling of the lower court dismissing his appeal earlier is upheld. The seven panel of judges who unanimously agreed to the judgement said reasons for the judgement will be given on September 30. Likewise, the appeal by former governor of Kogi state Idris Wada has been dismissed. Governor Bello election affirmed by the Supreme Court Today’s judgement on the November 2015 Kogi gubernatorial comes after series of appeals filed on the matter by the different parties involved. Not a laughing matter for former governor Wada Bello’s emergence as Kogi state governor came after a former governor of the state and the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag bearer Audu Abubakar died almost at the end of the election. Abubakar’s death among many others led to the declaration of the Kogi election as inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Supporters of James Faleke not happy about the decision Following this, Abubakar’s running mate James Faleke demanded he be automatically declared winner following his principal’s demise. Faleke leaving the court Faleke premised his demand on the fact that Bello only came second in the APC primary election and was never part of the main election. Meanwhile, the former Kogi state governor Idris Wada had also argued that he be declared the winner of the November 205 Kogi election since the APC lost its candidate and he as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) got the second highest votes after Abubakar’s.

remember visit http://davesblog.over-blog.com for more news updates and lifestyle tips. Yahaya Bello was declared winner of the 2015 Kogi state gubernatorial election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the death of Abubakar Audu, former candidate. Bello emerged the governor before his victory was challenged at the Court of Appeal by James Faleke (APC former deputy governorship candidate) and Idris Wada, former governor of Kogi state and the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party. Today, the Supreme Court would delivering judgment on the political logjam in the state Here are 4 reasons the APC can’t afford to lose Kogi state. 1. A test of the change mantra The word ‘change’ adopted by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in its presidential electoral campaign has been perceived negatively by the people under the present administration due to the state of the economy. The hope of the people for a better economy other than the previous administration made them usher in a new political party in power and failure to take up to their responsibilities of effecting a positive change will make people lose their expectation in the party. 2. Kogi is a strategic north-central state The state is central region of Nigeria which is popularly called the confluence state because the River Niger and River Benue is at its capital, Lokoja. Moreover, Kogi is the only state in Nigeria which shares a boundary with ten other states, including the federal capital territory (Abuja). Losing the state to PDP would mean losing a strategic north-central state. 3. To prove the party can win election even with recession The APC cannot afford to lose Kogi in this current state of economic recession. Since recession under this administration could serve as a loop hole for the opposition party to have an edge gaining the confidence of the masses. The party ought to strive to assure the masses even though the nation experiencing recession. 4. To show that the party is unified in spite of current crisis Some of the state chapters of the APC are currently having crisis. For example, in Kogi state, James Faleke, who is an APC member is fighting to be declared winner of the governorship election. He was Abubakar Audu’s running mate before his sudden death. At this point, the APC needs to put its house together before it starts breaking into warring factions. f it loes Kogi state, it would give the opposition PDP an upper hand. Unity is one major thing political parties shouldn’t do away with, because their unity in turbulent times is every important in order not to allow their opponent use the division against them. http://davesblog.over-blog.com/2016/09/4-reasons-apc-cannot-afford-to-kogi-state.html

Remember guys :more news at http://davesblog.over-blog.com . Some Benin palace chiefs have disagreed over the purported endorsement of the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, for the state’s governorship election – Also, candidates of the AA and ACD have announced their withdrawal from the election and have adopted PDP’s Osagie Ize- Iyamu Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu during a campaign tour in Benin city Some Benin palace chiefs have disagreed over the purported endorsement of the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, for the state’s governorship election scheduled for September 28. According to a report by Punch newspaper, a group of chiefs chiefs belonging to the Egha Evbo’ Nore (town chiefs) had last week adopted the PDP candidate at the residence of the Esama of Benin, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion. But another group of palace chiefs, led by the Obazelu of Benin, Chief Osaro Idah, condemned the action, asked that the palace should not be dragged into partisan politics. “Arase has since been suspended from participating in palace activities; he wore palace dress and some beads in order to be seen as a chief. He started going from village to village to meet the elders to vote for the PDP. “We have been looking for him to face the full wrath of the law because he is not a chief. I am the Obazelu of Benin Kingdom. I am qualified to know who is the Igiehon of Benin. I deal more with Igiehons.” He added, “Once they are caught, the palace will mete out necessary sanctions. They are not chiefs. They have been hiding since we heard about their activities. Once we catch them, we will hand them over to the police. “The palace will never call for support for any candidate. We always pray for the best to emerge. We are going to report to appropriate sections of the palace to look into such defaults.” Meanwhile, candidates of the Action Alliance (AA) and Advanced Congress of Democrats (ACD) for the state governorship election, Ishaka Paul Ofomile and Andrew Igwemoh, respectively, have announced their withdrawal from the election and have adopted the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu. Recall that the candidates of the KOWA Party, Thompson Osadolor, and the People for Democratic Change (PDC), Bishop Akharame, had stepped down for Ize-Iyamu, bringing the number of candidates who have withdrew their gubernatorial ambitions for Ize-Iyamu to four. The ACD candidate said Oshiomhole only developed a section of Iyamho community, regretting that the governor has succeeded in building a university in Iyamho that is not affordable for the people of the community. more news at http://davesblog.over-blog.com. The Federal Government is set to pull the Nigerian economy out of recession with a N4.72trillion fiscal stimulus plan – Nigeria’s economy is said to have slipped into one of the worst recession in the nation’s history – The stimulus plan is to be funded majorly through sales of national assets In seeking ways to get Nigeria out of the worst recession in its history, the Federal Government is considering a $ 15billion (N4.72 trillion) fiscal stimulus plan. The Buhari-led administration is seeking diverse ways to pull Nigeria out of the worst recession the nation has ever experienced. Following the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) recent official confirmation that Nigeria’s economy had slipped into one of the worst recessions in its history, the government convened a ministerial retreat last week to rally economists’ opinions on possible way out of the doldrums . Premium Times reports that one of the key resolutions at the retreat was a four- pronged funding plan to generate and inject massive foreign capital, estimated at between $10 and $15 billion (about N4.72 trillion – at N320 to the dollar) into the economy. The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Udoma Udoma, said the stimulus plan would be funded majorly through sale of some national assets, advance payment by joint venture operators for license renewals, infrastructure concessions, use of recovered funds etc, and long term, low interest loans to bridge funding gap. In line with the external borrowing plan approved recently to enable government borrow cheapest available monies to fund key ongoing projects, the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, said on Friday plans had been concluded to raise additional $1billion through Euro bond capital raise. Besides, Mrs Adeosun said the World Bank, African Development Bank (ADB), and other multilateral and international lending institutions, have already approved plans for loans at interest rates of 1.5 per cent, and repayment tenors as long as 40 years. She said the facilities would help the government intervene in some key areas, like agriculture, education, health, rebuilding of transportation facilities, railway and other projects considered vital to government effort to revamp the economy. The minister, who justified the request for emergency economic powers for government, said in view of the “unusual times” the country found itself, “unusual measures were required to navigate the economy out of recession waters.” One of the areas for which she said the intervention was necessary was in pruning the procurement processes to speed up contract awards, to execute key infrastructure needed to drive quick economic recovery. Mr Udoma said the government was equally giving a thought to measures to fast-track procedures to speedily inject the funds into the economy. Some of these measures include presidential orders and directives, to be facilitated by emergency powers, to be enabled by the Emergency Economic Recovery Bill currently pending submission to the National Assembly for approval. Other components of the plan, which have already been approved by the Executive Council of the Federation include total restructuring of the country towards sustainable growth, by weaning the economy from dependence on crude oil revenue. Resolutions at the retreat include the need for government to work closely with the private sector to bridge the N3 to N5 trillion funding gap per annum in infrastructural development; need for the government to signpost the future of the country’s economy to the world and open up infrastructure investment opportunities. |

The Borno state government is set to re- open public secondary schools next week – The schools were closed two years ago after due to frequent Haram attacks – Internally Displayed Persons (IDPs) occupying the schools had been relocated Borno state is preparing for life after Boko Haram as the state government is set to re-open public secondary schools next week after two years of closure. The state’s commissioner for education, Inuwa Kubo, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri that the schools will resume for academic activities after the Internally Displayed Persons (IDPs) occupying the schools had been relocated. Borno state governor, Kashim Shettima is making efforts to ensure that Borno gets back to what it was before According to the commissioner, repairs had been carried out on all the structures in the schools to provide a conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning. His words: “I wish to announce that on September 26, all public schools are going to be re- opened. “I want to state that government has repaired all the structures damaged by the IDPs in the schools, to ensure comfort for the returning students. “Parents and guardians should please make sure that they send their children back to school.” The commissioner however promised to address the fact that proprietors of private schools took undue advantage of the development to charge arbitrary fees. “We understand that some of them have taken undue advantage of the closure to hike school fees; we will not allow the situation to continue. “We are going to visit the schools to find out how much they are charging and how much they are paying their teachers,” he said. The schools were shut in March 2014, after terrorists attacked a school in neighbouring Yobe. The government however reopened primary schools in 2015 but could not do the same with the secondary schools because of the influx of the IDPs into the school compounds. Boko Haram fighters are reported to have attacked a church in Borno state, killing 8 people, the attack took place on Sunday, September 18. Boko Haram fighters Following the reports, Nigerians have questioned the news, debating several issues regarding the latest Boko Haram attack. Question have also been raised as regards reports of security threats being over within the troubled northeastern region. Below are thoughts of Nigerians over the recent attack by what many have come to term Nigeria’s most dreaded insurgent sect. Prince Martins reacted to the situation saying: “The animals should kill themselves and leave the church of Jesus Christ alone….. Tomorrow the governor will still come out to make noise that his state is safer than Lagos and Abuja.” Immaculate Osimach said: “No this must be joke of the day, if boko harams still attack people then which of it has been defeated? When will the truth ever be said, and the military script writers will rush with lies to cover up the attack.” Uwakwe Micheal Ikechukwu was of the opinion that the Boko Haram war will linger a bit more, he said: “Northerners listen terrorism cannot be defeated, ask Americas they have try all means against iraq and afghans and others it did not work, your peoples don enter one chance, boko haram have come to stay, you cannot kill an ideology.” Obiora Darlington Somtochukwu echoed Ikechukwu’s thoughts saying: “An ideology never dies. Boko Haram has come to stay.” Olatoye Babatunde sarcastically said: “Na lie..they are already technically defeated with continuous bombardment, those ones that came are their ghost!!” Okechukwu Ogu joined his voice to that of Obiora and Ikechukwu saying: “You don’t defeat an ideology, but because most of you are black man from Africa that’s why we talk rubbish, Bokoharm has come to stay.” Okechukwu Egbe asked: “Where is Lai Mohammed, to explain more as Nigeria troops technically defeated Buhari boys haram, lai Mohammed you are a Disgrace as information minister of Nigeria.” Hyok Iliya But in real sense who is decieving who in this counrtry? in deed this a banana republic where calacuna is the order of the day. A disappointed Solomon Ebenuwa said: “Everything Buhari used to win the election is now proven to be a fake, my Yoruba brothers take note. Father Mbaka take note, my truthful Hausa brothers take note,” he warned. Hamidu Wali took a different look at the issue saying: “Cowards why don’t they come out and fight the army since they are claiming to be strong.” Adekunle Festus was of the opinion that: “That is the new Boko Haram leader at work, he had promised to attack churches but don’t worry the army are ready for you guys.” source http://davesblog.over-blog.com/2016/09/tension-boko-haram-cannot-be-destroyed-controversy-trails-attack-on-church.html |
