Roland17: My point exactly! Saka is investing a lot of work in the development of his talent, ensuring he is an impact player and the evidence is on the pitch for everyone to see. As for others, na touch and go.. you are not sure of what to see from Nelson, Nketiah, ANM or Willock on match day.
And they are the English hyped ones.
Saka will be a good addition to the Super Eagles. Its like he rewatches his matches and be like
Mehn when last i shoot at goal, make i cut in fire ball test this guy jare
And he did that vs BHA. Lol
Or
When last i assist Pepe o....
And gbam he targets the guy. Lol
Willock be seeing Auba and still go selfish
I think this is where the seniority supposed to be.
Auba should reprimand such being a senior player. Forget cool guy. Lol
Roland17: Baba they did not sacrifice their ability to remain competitive for any of those players. Those guys earned their right to be core players because of the level of quality and impact they brought. Assimilating a system for such a long period is not easy and it only supports my thoughts about their level of intelligence and maturity.
TheLoneCitizen: Black lives matter campaign is creating job opportunities for minorities. In the next two season in Europe, just watch as the number of referees will increase significantly.
I hope they grab it violently and climb all the way to the top
Bolowolowo: This. We need more Nigerians and Africans in managerial roles!
Exactly. They seem to be pouring into the trend....
Many have cert already. Time to switch to the next level....
If to say NPFL get sense, these explayers for just return come dey Behind up things and careers of these players.... So much for systematic flow in our football sphere.
ChrisKels: Yea, but he has played in 6matches already
Personally, unless we have some assessment ongoing backstage, i feel Ole is just being too careful with Ighalo. And that shouldn't be happening. Perhaps if Continental football resumes.
ChrisKels: Aswear, especially those he played together with at Maracana Lagos, that phrase gonna sweet their bele die
But he gats score in the EPL to be counted, really
I have no worries with performance. He delivers when he plays and is more mature in attack than Martial IMO. He is getting the numbers as he's given play time, which is okay for me.
That Kine publicity naim other cadet guys suppose dey do so as to give some focus and twale to the location they started from with football.
Spy360: Yes I believe Arteta is establishing a disciplinary culture. He must have gotten that trait from his mentor. I also know that as a player he was not joking with undisciplined individuals hence his choice as captain then.
Keeping Saka for me is the most important business we must do this summer. Such talent cannot be affordable elsewhere. A player who can play comfortably accross the attacking third, plus he is so tactically adaptable. Imagine him playing AM Vs Brighton, off position yet he was our best attacking threat. The most unimaginable is that he is still in his learning phase. In two years time he would be worth more than Ozil was when he joined us.
Definitely. Besides Saka seems to understand Auba and Martinelli. This boy is really serious with his developmental abilities. The others.... Cant say same.
Nice one from Arteta. I hope that middle gets quality that would power the club straight back to the UCL directly, not through any Europa. They can botch Continental showpiece and just focus on the EPL and domestic cups. That would be a phase that would help alot.
Xavi, Iniesta, Busquet, Puyol, Pique, Alves and Messi transitioned through the La Masia and became tremendous quality every team wanted. They were not mere/ ordinary players and that was why they became core pieces of Barcelona and Spain. Don’t forget Pique was sent out to Manchester United for a period to gain some valuable experience and that convinced Barcelona he was one for the long term.
Since that core group, Barcelona have been unable to replicate that level of talent transition into their first team. Heralded talents like D. Suarez were sent to Arsenal, today he is at Celta Vigo, same for H. Bellerin, now I hear Arthur is being exchanged for Pjanic. Today, only Pique, Messi and maybe Fati are the academy players in the regular 11 and don’t forget Pique and Messi are both playing their last legs. If these guys, including the ones above did not have the quality to make immediate impact and make the team competitive, Barcelona would have not have kept them and made them core pieces all in the name of culture.
I had been watching Saka for a year at the academy before he joined the first team, my receipts are littered in my previous posts. Like you said, we have to do everything we can to ensure he stays and part of that is surrounding him with quality players that can make an impact. Saka’s decision to stay will not be because of Nketiah/ Willock/ Nelson or any academy prospect that transitioned with him. He already knows this and that is why he is taking his time to make a decision. The other kids in the academy can see through the history of the club that there is an immense opportunity at Arsenal to transition into the first team if they work hard and retain their place can improve on their quality like Saka has done.
I am all for keeping these kids but not just because they are Arsenal products and can continue the culture but because they will make us competitive against any team and will command a first team shirt if they leave for another team. It’s time for us to be pragmatic and stop being emotional about our young players. We have to patient but realistic about them also.
This barca example get as e be. They patterned their game mindset in the taka way and doing that together for years in such a way that these guys understood each other at a young age and with such a lethal tactic again. I watch and notice that Xavi doesn't look at where he passes many times yet he knows just who is there and when to pass. Arsenal are tryna do something of sort with Willock, Nelson and Smith.... I hope they stay together cos i dont have such great hope on the trio. By now, you'd have expected someone like Nelson or Willock to know how to blemd with Martinelli. But that doesnt seem to be the case. Hmmm
Roland17: I don’t think keeping the core of your youth/ academy players is what sets you up for winning. While it is an efficient model that encourages identity, it does not necessarily guarantee success. More so, the culture of winning or accountability/ identity are not restricted to only young players from our academy because they can be transferred.
Take Liverpool for instance, outside of TAA, mention another core player that was from their academy? They went out and got players that fit Klopp’s system and can imbibe the Liverpool culture and identity and today they are champions. The same can be said of our most successful teams.
Keeping academy players who have stunted or not showing any promise is risky for both club and the player, I would rather send the player on loan to a team where he can get consistent minutes and that will help us in making decisions. Sometimes the patience is rewarded, other times it’s a waste of resources.
Very valid. Academy boys get games as much as 60 in 2years is a bad sign for any club. Esp if they arent performing like TAA, Haaland, or others in their age bracket that approach the game with a lethal, mature mindset.
The youngsters in the setup are too comfortable and then, not enough senior players to watch and pattern their mentality to.
I think that look means he wants to kick ball again. Perhaps he just realizes no ub is coming for him and he misses being at the centre doing better things.
Once again, Arteta and the disciplinarian approach. Seems to be working.
Oh, Son Hairstyle was called to a hearing, and he apologized for what he did at Brighton. Says he will love to stay at the club and win trophies.
The axe is getting results. Thanks to Pep approach. I hope it brings results.
The media amd their phrases eh. Its good to have a good phrase that will gum body o. Now that "boy from lagos" dey follow Ighalo upandan among UK sports reporters. Its good. Also funny.
I hope our upcoming footballers also sense this and take advantage. No be everytime we go hear "we play paperball, barefoot"
If only the NPFL scouting system was an effective as some mid leagues in Europe. The transitions to younger players. Our leagues supposed don dey resemble u20 league by now.... But
Ehen, pls, i wan ask. David Moyes was at the CheMCI match.. And camera caught on him for a few seconds.... Whats he doing there abeg? Any speculations whatsoever? Is it what i thought it is?
Jodera: The bolded is so apt. When no senior player have any connection with the club, how can you convince the young ones to stay, or any new signing coming into the club that they should see that club as their home and not a stepping stone. No matter how Chelsea or Madrid are buying players anyhow, they still have Terrys/Lampards and Casillas/Ramos that have been in the club for a very long time. We, who do we have. Looking at things, it's like ozil is the oldest, and he's not even up to 8 yrs. And we even know who this ozil is in terms of attitude sef.
Ozil doesnt even command th3 dressing room or authority anywhere. Asides his introverted attitude. Now imagine the young ones actually look up to him. Theyll see nothing noteworthy to emulate.
Kos fitted that role, but see how he slipped away. He left angry and with what he's done for Arsenal, i don't blame him.
10 of these youngsters, 8will depart before next presidential election.
komekn: To be honest a lot of our players give the impression it's all about money. Once they get that first big contract, they don't seem to strive to improve.
They just do enough to remain relevant.
I dream of just two or three players that want to at least take up half of the practice lifestyle of Messi and Cr7. I dunno why they don't think about this part atall. I personally feel it can make one indispensable, even at a young age.
And its now becoming a norm among defenders... Why arent they also catching up with the trends as well? Nawa o
komekn: I disagree Mount had a very good game but some e of his decision making was very suspect and selfish.
Barkley lost steam for me even before the half ended. He is only 26 he has not upgraded his game. It was a case of diminishing returns after 30 minutes.
I was looking forward to seeing Loftus - Cheek replacing him. But it didn't happen although the subs in the second half all were strategic.
Bringing in a rampant Tega when City would have run out of steam and got complacent defending against a very very zero pace Giroud. Was key to the win, as he changed the game dynamics.
I still will insist Mount had a bad game. We need to give the stick when necessary. As i told Goodjoe, the errror of City brought about that win. If those errors didnt occur, I'm sure we would focus harder on Mount. But Since twas a win....
That part you said "He's only 26"....Lol
Wack. Does he love the wing? Naim sabi. He is depreciating to me. Fact!!
Loftus go Lost if them bring him on. Fact. City are too tech for that guy to have a big impart on that kinda game imo. At a point, even Willian was looking like a 2.
Ahem.... I absolutely disagree with yhe Tega making an impart on the game... But lets leave that.
Edopesin: i never said he outplayed City I only said I like his approach to game one of which is the deep defensive line we had
And as for the KDB goal I wasn't expecting to do better that's why I said we have to avoid conceding set pieces
Barkley and Mount were just odd picks to me. They underperformed. Im wondering how they arent getting the stick. Oh cos its a win, and the league's been won. That overshadowed focus on their bismal dismal performance.
TheGoodJoe: The main error was Mendy misplacing the pass to Pulisic. That disrupted the balance.
That wasn't the main error to me. They could still recovered from that by simply increasing pace, and most importantly, blocking the path of Pulisic to goal.
Not blocking the path is the maaaaaaaain errror to me. If they blocked that path, trust me, twill be easier to dispossess him.
Roland17: It is a disgusting mentality that is reflected on the pitch!
There is absolutely no accountability or consequences and that is why players can give flimsy excuses after consecutive shows of shame, take pictures during training and then improve on the show of shame in the next game. It is like we are competing against ourselves on how worse we can perform in a loss.
I hoped to see more accountability and discipline after Arteta took over especially since he was under Pep who is a renowned disciplinarian but it is just not showing!
Arsenak needs to be a home rather than a stopover park/busstop!!!
See TAA, he will stay and retire at Liverpool.
We can't even say same for our Youth...... Oh Iwobi was sent out cos twas juicy cash sef!!!
See!!
And so the club culture and unity that supposed to make warmth amd cohesion keeps getting low heat and coldfeet cos no one is there to tell the story
See Jenkinson... Last of the 2013set. Sold off.... So an era just faded into oblivion... No continuity.
If Saka see better club and better pay, we know say hin go japa.
Spy360: It's time we begin the search for a real captain. Aubameyang for me is a designer captain, someone fashionable, like some celebrity kind of wife- what we need is a real housewife someone who can wash and cook. A captain that embodies the club in both soul and spirit. A Tony Adams. I don't mind if he is 17years old, as long as he is a true Gunner.
Incidentally, Adams was a teenager when he began to lead during his time.
Xhaka but he doesn't want. He gives a ginger to hold on tight. Something Auba cant do.
komekn: You are looking at football from one perspective the Spanish style of football. Things have moved on you are being too nostalgic.
A style that sees only two teams dominate in thier league consistently. But two teams with the best 2 players in the world.
Take out Messi from Barcelona and l tell you they will not have the same over riding dominance. Look at Real M.since Ronaldo left and they are not the same.
Most top quality teams are not entirely reliant on just one player.
Now to mitigate against the technical possession game of Barcelona. You simply bring in pace, more physicality and go more direct. And don't worry about possession.
Chelsea did it with Drogba.
Football has moved on and spending time on the ball with possession only is no longer the killer tactic. Pep has evolved the system with what he has done at Bayern and Man city.
Liverpool did it and gave Barcelona a football lesson with a crazy defeat right in thier backyard.
If it worked Carzola would still be in Arsenal but he has dropped to insignificance in Villareal.
The system also requires that everyone plays the same way.
Look at Seria A and see what the combination of speed, technical ability with physicality has done for Lukaku at Inter. Although for me irrespective of the league Lukaku is a proven tested World class striker.
Paul Scholes would not find it easy now the game has changed. Midfielder are box to box and they score goals.
Even with that you are still very wrong and not being balanced with regards to English players. Let's look at the current young English midfielder who are killing it.
Mason Mount, Maddison, Winks, Grealish, Ruben Loftus, Barkley, Bamidele Alli, Todd Cantwell, etc to name just a few. These players will walk into any top club in Europe.
So again you seem to be out of touch with times the game has changed. Look at Liverpool where the Wing backs are recording more assists and even goals than top midfielders in the top leagues.
You need to drink the new wine, you are still drinking old Wine.
De Bruyne does not waist time doing skills and never ending possession football. But is arguably the best attacking midfielder in the world, look at his END PRODUCT assists and goals.
That's a large Exaggeration right there. You know it!!! Any team? How?
