Yola—Boko Haram insurgents have killed several people and abducted six women at Sabongari town in Madagali Local Government of Adamawa State.
Sources from the area indicated that the insurgents  invaded the town weekend, forcing residents to run into the bushes.
This was even as about 108 displaced  Nigerians, mostly women and children who were  rescued from Niger Republic have been received by officials of Adamawa State government in Yola, the state capital.
However, a  resident, who simply gave his name as Musa said the insurgents  arrived the village at about 10 pm Sunday night and started shooting sporadically, killing many people and injuring others before abducting the women.
The Chairman of Madagali Local Government Area, Maina Ularamu who confirmed the incident,  called on government to provide more security in the area.
Ularamu expressed regret that several villages and communities were presently without military presence and urged the Army to deploy troops to the areas.
Meanwhile, speaking with newsmen in Yola on the arrival of the 108 people rescued from Niger Republic, the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, Haruna Furo said 24 of the persons were from Taraba State while two were from Gombe State.
Furo noted that the state government was making arrangements to convey those from the state to their various communities just as it would assist others to return to their states of origin.
Some of the displaced persons interviewed said most of them were fisher men, farmers and traders who had carried out their various trades in Niger for years.

If you are a regular user of the Ijora flyover bridge, you may have consciously or otherwise noticed a perimeter fencing with two gates shielding two primary schools, a junior high school and an abandoned health centre with ugly shanties erected around the perimeter fencing. The schools are Banjo Primary School, Ebenezer Primary School and Ogbo Junior High School, all in the swampy Otumara community, Ebute Metta West, Lagos State.

Located in an unfriendly and inhabitable environment, students of these schools are exposed to various dangers, including diseases and attacks from street urchins and animals . The schools which are near Brickfield Street, Apapa have a minimum of 500 students each. The sorry state of these schools, particularly Banjo Primary School, however, demands urgent attention from relevant authorities.

Until recently, when a non-governmental organisation offered a helping hand by erecting the perimeter fencing which was estimated at about N2 million, students of these schools were unintentionally mixing freely with street urchins and domestic animals that have made the schools their abode.

Apart from that, uncleared refuse dumps and weeds competed for space in the schools premises. Same applies to the abandoned, vandalized health centre where street urchins usually pitch their tent irrespective of government presence.

Banjo Primary School has only six teachers attending to over 500 pupils. The teachers are supported by a head teacher and an assistant head teacher to carry out academic duties. This is apart from the fact that the school is made up of only six classrooms which are in advanced state dilapidation. An resident who pleaded anonymity told Vanguard Metro, VM, that some of the pupils have been raped due by undesirable elements that usually hang around, although none of the victims has spoken out.

To make matters worse, some parents said that during the rainy season, the premises are usually flooded. VM gathered that Senator Remi Tinubu offered to donate three classrooms through a contractor who did not complete the project. This was also the case with the four-year-old dilapidated six classrooms building which was said to have been badly constructed. VM was informed when the former head teacher called the attention of the contractor to the shoddy job, the contractor had threatened to deal with her.

As at the time of filing this report, some worried parents are appealing to all relevant authorities to come to the aid of the school as there are very strong indications that it might cave in any moment and endanger the lives of the innocent pupils. One of the parents, 50-year-old Mrs Basirat Abdukareem, said several complaints have been expressed over the matter in the past but nothing has been done so far in response. ‘’We shall not stop calling on government until our prayers are answered,” she said.

Another parent, Mr Olokunola Adisa, said he was planning to relocate to another area due to the poor condition of the school. ‘’The classroom block can collapse any moment. So, I am planning to relocate my children but this is difficult because that is the only school around here. We want the government to intervene because no one knows what these children can become tomorrow,” he said.

CelebritiesTwitter-in-chief; Obama Gets Twitter Account by daveyjay(op): 7:18pm On May 18, 2015
“Hello, Twitter! It’s Barack. Really! Six years in, they’re finally giving me my own account.”
With that inaugural Tweet sent from a smart phone in the Oval Office before jumping on Marine One Monday, the President of the United States Barack Obama — or @POTUS — cast off security and bureaucratic chains in place since he was elected.
The account — which already had nearly 150,000 followers in the first half hour — will instantly become one of the world’s top hacking targets, but it will also allow Obama to communicate directly for the first time.
Until now Obama has tweeted through his executive staff @WhiteHouse or the remnants of his campaign staff @BarackObama.
“The @POTUS Twitter account will serve as a new way for President Obama to engage directly with the American people, with tweets coming exclusively from him,” the White House said.
The already verified account features the customary headshot of Obama, but also a background photo of him walking over the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama, in March, when he marked the 50th anniversary of a civil rights march that changed America.
Obama describes himself as “Dad, husband, and 44th President of the United States.”
He is following an assortment of cabinet members and senior staff, as well as wife Michelle Obama.

PoliticsDame Jonathan Recounts Her Surgical Miracle After Husband Lost Election by daveyjay(op): 11:36am On May 18, 2015
Dame Patience Jonathan, the wife of president Goodluck Jonathan, has disclosed that an ailment she was suffering from that would have required a major operation disappeared after her husband lost the March 28 presidential election.
She noted that she was in and out of a German hospital for undisclosed ailment during the electioneering campaigns.
She made the disclosure at a special thanksgiving service organised by the Aso Villa Chapel to bid the first family farewell after Goodluck Jonathan failed to win the March 28 presidential election.
Her words: “Just two years ago, I went through operations upon operations. Within one month, I passed through 12 operations. It is wonderful. Some people said I was dead but God resurrected me.
“During the campaign period, the devil struck again. In pains, I was rushed to a hospital in Germany and the doctors said I had to undergo a major operation.
“I said, again? The electioneering campaign was still going on and I wondered how we were going to explain it to Nigerians. You know, even when you go for a check-up, they will be writing all sorts of things in the papers.
“I said I and my family have to handle this. My husband will continue with his campaign until the last day. That was how I went in for the first major operation in January.
“And by God’s grace I went for the operation and came out. It was from that operation that I went to the campaign ground. Then they said I had to go for another major operation in a bigger hospital. I told them I would go. I said I have faith in God and my God will see me through. He has brought me out for a purpose. I called my pastor to continue praying for me.
“I said again, they wanted me to be a sacrifice, but I will never be. I went to the bigger hospital. I booked for the operation and I was asked to go for the campaign. They gave me a new date.
“I had paid for everything and what remained was for me to enter the theatre. Then something happened. The doctors said, let’s check her again. By then, my husband had lost the election. I had started packing out of the Villa.
“Behold! I went to four hospitals again and the thing vanished. My doctors were surprised. They never thought that could happen.”
The First Lady then urged the president’s supporters to take what has happened as an act of God.
“We should be grateful to God for what he has done. To our followers, today it might not be too good but I want them to be grateful to God because you have followed us for a long time. You know this position is not a life-long thing.
“There is no permanent thing. I want you to take it in good faith. That it is the will of God and you should be praising God. God is really wonderful.”
She commended Nigerians for the support they gave to her husband in the last eight years.
She said their elevation to the present position was the work of God.
“I never thought in my life that I will be first lady. I never dreamt of being wife of a deputy governor because my husband was not a politician. But God made it possible and God lifted us up from deputy governor and here we are”, the First Lady noted.
