Education / Re: I Am Finished. Bet9ja Virtual Has Ruined My Education,my Life And My Soul. HELP! by davidif: 9:12am On Jul 08, 2018
Hardlife:
Please try and read to the end.
I am a young guy early twenties. I
have been playing virtual since 2014.
I was never this useless and
unpurposeful.
My life changed when i entered university.
It all started in 2014 when i walked
into a nairabet close to my school and
saw people playing virtual. I decided
to play, as i remember i won that
period. I never knew the day i started was the
day i gave the devil the key to my life. In 2014, i spent my school fees on
virtual, lost everything. Sold my
phones, my feeding money and
everything. All went to virtual. So i was not able to continue my
education, though i remained in
school not letting my parents know till
this year. Dear reader, from 2014 to date have
been the worst years of my life. I stole
to play virtual, sold my properties, my
clothes, shoes. I became an addict. Even not being a
formal student, i still collected money from my parents, school fees
and allowance. Everything ends up in
virtual house. I could not even buy good clothes.

Bro, Jesus says come unto me all you who are heavy laden and I will give you rest for your souls.

Politics / Re: The 9 Candidates Running For Presidency 2019 by davidif: 7:49am On Jul 01, 2018
We really need to scrap the Presidental system we practice and replace it with the parliamentary system of govt to allow for more voices.

The presidential system only seems to guarantee us two credible parties that have a serious chance of winning like the democrats and republicans in the US and APC and PDP in Nigeria that's not going to work for a country as wide and as diverse as Nigeria.

Yesterday SA to President while reacting to Recent killings and deaths said it cannot be compared to the people that died during the PDP tenure..

He made the statement while responding to PDP 7days mourning..
He said:

“A quick checklist of some savage and brutal killings in Nigeria during PDP rule, between 1999 and 2015, for which no national mourning was declared:
“November 20, 1999. Odi, in Bayelsa State, was invaded on orders of a PDP President. About 2,500 people killed. No national mourning.
“Between February and May, 2000, about 5,000 people were killed during riots over Sharia law in different parts of the North. No national mourning.

And Nigerians Who felt offended by his words have been dragging him on Twitter, See below!

Why would anyone politicize a tragedy like this as if the death of one innocent person is not more than enough? It's as if people forget that the most important thing on earth is human life.

shut your trap n read to understand ,,what is wrong with us ,demented youths everywhere ... what the OP wrote would make 100% sense to any sane human ,, he suggested all measures to curb the situation, as if he knews nigerians; said if you conclude their is nothing you can do to save the situation ,,have human feelings n cry which is optional instead of recording ,some even took selfie with victims burning .... madness

Hold up, did the OP just say people should use fire extinguishers to quench a raging inferno?? Is this guy high?? I saw videos of that thing it looked like a scene straight out of hell and you want people to stop and get fire extinguishers (very few Nigerians own one in the first place) and move close to that unbearable heat and unbreathable fumes and try to put out a fire that seems to spreading and growing uncontrollably?? Wow! Clap for yourself Mr. Genius.

Hey, don’t be sarcastic! He didn’t say crying is a solution to the mishap! He meant crying being the instant reaction to the situation- isn’t that better than snap shots or picture taking as first reaction??

Your policies-changing solution, would it bring the lives back?.
People like you have been described by Alibaba. Lawaless! When the policies are enshrined, would you not still resist its good intentions?

Appalling!!!

The recordings have struck a consciousness in the minds of the people so that this things will not be swept under the rug by the govt again.

It is heart-wrenching to know that the first thing that comes to the mind of someone who finds himself/herself close to an accident scene, or a mishap of any form is to start taking pictures and making videos.

Pictures and videos from the incident at the OtedolaBridge today penetrated all over social-media and news platforms just within a few hours, with different versions of reporting. This threw me into thoughts of how much we Nigerians have degenerated far away from humanity.

What has become of us fellow Nigerians?

Is it a clamour for popularity? Is it an appeal for likes and shares? Is there a bragging right or an award for live reporting from an accident scene? Or just maybe, is there a subtle innermost feeling of joy or satisfaction derived from reporting loss of live and properties directly as it is ongoing?
Please leave the reporting job to the press. Must you be a harbinger of bad news?

I ask you dear Sir or Madam Reporter, is there nothing else you can do to salvage the situation besides running live commentary?
What right do you have to take a video or a photo of people's lives and properties going up in flames?

Did you atleast even try to call the emergency and rescue authorities if that is the least you can do?
In fact, that phone which you are using for your live streaming news service, do you even have the hotlines or emergency numbers of the fire department, police, emergency search and rescue, ambulance service etc, stored on the phone?

What would have happened if most or all the cars travelling along the other lane had stopped, and brought out their car fire extinguishers. Wouldn't it have helped no matter how small, someone probably may have been saved, just one life atleast, or maybe even 1% of the fire may have been extinguished before the arrival of the fire fighters.

Let's now assume someone else called the emergency services, let's assume there is nothing you could do, atleast that is the deceit conviction you have given yourself, does this still justify you to start taking pictures?

You may ask, what then can I do?

Here is your answer.....Cry!!!!
Raise your voice and Cry!!!! Weep my dear brother and Sister.... Scream on top of your voice and weep until you run out of tears...

Weep because that cry you hear in the fire maybe the voice of the breadwinner of an entire family...

Cry because that cry in the fire may be the voice of the only graduate a family has ever produced, or it may be the voice of the only successful business man/woman who is the light of a family..

Scream because that smell of people burning in the fire maybe a group of students returning to their already awaiting family, or a spouse joyfully returning to the arms of his/her loved one after a stressful day.

Weep because while other people battle with maintenance of life quality, we are still battling with low live expectancy rates in Nigeria.

Cry because, just about anything, Anything is a threat to the life of a Nigerian.

Most of all, Hit your chest and weep for Nigeria...
Weep because most of the reasons why thousands of lives are lost in Nigeria, is not even a threat to the life of a stray animal in other countries..

Weep because the people we have entrusted to serve us, fix the potholes on our roads, provide us with alternative routes, provide us with basic amenities, ensure good town planning etc, are now the same people that will fly over our heads in helicopters and jets, while we burn and roast on the roads that are dilapidated and in utermost disaster.

Weep because while an entire force can be reshuffled and interogated for the loss of life of one citizen in some countries, we are conducting mass burials on daily basis here in Nigeria, and no one is held responsible for such impunities.

Fellow Nigerians, let it be clear to us that we are in no way better than those that lost their lives today or have lost their lives in situations like this in the past.
Let it be known to each and every one of us that we are in no way entitled to live even one minute longer than any of those people who lost their lives today.
No sane person goes out of his home with plans of dieing along the way, it is in no way by our power or our might that we are alive. It is strictly by the mercy of God that we are saved, let us therefore not take pleasure in taking pictures and videos from scenes, when people are in pains and anguish.

May the souls of those who lost their lives rest in the bossom of the lord, and may God grant the families the fortitude to bear the loss. Amen

We are humans, we are sensitive to the plight of fellow humans, we are different, We are Nigerians.
God save Nigeria!

Hold up, did this guy just say people should use fire extinguishers to quench a raging inferno?? Is this guy high?? Dear Nairalanders..this is my first thread and it stems from misery

I've been in this relationship going to two(2) years now and we are deeply in love and planning to get married this year and my introduction is coming up soon but I'm having this serious issue I need help to deal with...

We all know there's no relationship without its hurdles, frictions and tensions but each time this happens my man keeps malice which can run from days into weeks, anytime we quarrel and I try talking to him later probably to apologise he'll feign more anger and i'll leave him and stay miserable till whenever he decides to end the malice he'll come kneeling or asking his relatives or friends to call and apologise on his behalf..

i'll take this decision not to talk to him again but when once I open my door and see him kneeling I go all weak and accept his apologies and it won't take up to a week or two again something will happen and he'll start ignoring me again...

Please help and advice a miserable fellow nairalander on how to deal with this situation now that it's still early,we've not spoken since Friday and it could be worse after marriage

Look at this one. Someone is already showing who they really are and you are still complaining instead of fleeing. Have you not heard that when someone shows you who they truly are that you should simply believe them? Or are you one of those naive people who believe that they are eventually going to change on their own or that you can change them? hahaha

Good development but world bank and the federal government really needs to put in place more stringent controls to monitor the disbursement of the funds by the project implementation units. I have had the opportunity of auditing a world bank assisted project and the loan was wasted on useless consultancy services and international tours. This huge sum should be properly monitored for effective utilisation.

What does consultancy services and international tours mean?
Politics / Re: World Bank Approves $2.1bn Loan For Seven Projects In Nigeria by davidif: 8:06am On Jun 29, 2018
DONSMITH123:
The World Bank has announced the approval of $2.1bn loan for seven projects to be executed in Nigeria.

A statement issued in Abuja on Thursday said the loans were approved in Washington on Wednesday and are for seven projects to support Nigeria’s investment in nutrition, access to electricity, states’ fiscal transparency, polio eradication, women’s economic empowerment, public finance and national statistics and reducing vulnerability to soil erosion.

World Bank Country Director for Nigeria, Rachid Benmessaoud, was quoted to have said, “The Federal Government of Nigeria’s Economic Recovery and Growth Plan identifies human capital investment, restoring growth, and building a competitive economy as its key pillars.

The projects approved by the International Development Association, the bank’s low-interest arm, are expected to support Nigeria’s economic growth plan.

Growth rates in Nigeria have bounced back since the third quarter of 2016, when a recession, its first in 25 years, bottomed out. Growth returned largely due to higher oil prices, with the country relying on crude sales for much of its revenue.

However, growth slowed again in the first quarter of 2018, as the country’s non-oil sector struggled.

The government expects growth to rise to a pre-recession level of 7 percent by 2020.

The World Bank said more than half of the loans would be used to fund power and climate change projects and boost fiscal transparency. It also approved a $7 million grant for nutrition.

Nigeria privatised most of its power sector in 2013 but retained control of its dilapidated monopoly transmission grid, often blamed for hobbling growth.

The country intends to raise $2.8 billion of debt offshore to help part-finance its 2018 budget and plans to explore all options to lower costs, the debt office head told Reuters.

The debt office said it could tap capital markets or concessionary loans from the World Bank after the 2018 budget had been approved.

Wrong! you first have to wrestle control of the football teams in our local league from the govt. Last time I heard, 18 teams in the nigerian premier league are owned by the govt. Can you even imagine that in the english premier league?

No single home based player in our team and this is not good for our soccer developmemt. A blend of both foreign based and home based players would have given us a better result. It worked perfectly for us in the last AFCON won by Nigeria. Did you notice how the home based boys played with Atletico Madrid recently in the friendly. Most of these so_called foreign based are tired legs and some are not even playing regularly in thier clubs. Untill we start giving opportunity to local players too so that everyone fights for the shirt based on merit before we can move forward.

I don't care whether we play home or foreign based players I just want good players. This unnecessary nationalism or national pride will take us nowhere.

it's a funny cycle. People are clamoring for the local league to be developed, but it won't develop if they have less people coming to watch the games. Nigerians would rather pay to watch European league matches unlike the south Americans that fully support their local leagues.

How can the local league be developed when almost all the teams are owned by the govt? Nigerians need to get rid of govt control of almost every area of life.

Trust me, if Abraham Lincoln or Barack Obama was on the ballot i will pick them but we are stuck with two parties who have only connived to present us with horrendous candidates time and time again so what can we Do?
