UltraSolid:Gotcha! so how in the world did Kemi Badenoch end up joining the party that is not necessarily not known for being pro minority? |
lildush:The problem with this administration is that they have not done a good job explaining the concept of currency manipulation that we have been practicing for so long so that the average Nigerian on the street understands it and its long-term debilitating effects on the economy. Most folks do not understand how expensive it is to prop up your currency artificially and how much of your reserves you have to burn through to do that. |
Basiljoe:How about this? Some African countries have not had a lot of educated leaders knowledgeable enough to run their countries. In case you didn't know, running a country is very, very difficult. You have the political side of things and you have the economic and financial side of things which some leaders don't have a background in. Just imagine, you are a military leader with only a secondary school education or a degree in Veterinary medicine and you are now in charge of a large and very diverse nation in and you are dealing with competing interests within the country and now you have to figure out things like trade policy, competition law, tax policy, govt reforms etc meanwhile your counterparts in the west double or even triple majored in Political science, Economics and Philosophy in school then after that went on to get an MBA and a law degree from some of the best schools in the world where they are thought to think and tackle very challenging problems then after this, they add some real-world experience in the top financial institutions in their country to their CV before joining politics. How in the world do you even think you can even begin to compete with this in policy and trade discussions? |
olaniyilukman:Bros, because it costs a lot of money to artificially prop up your currency. This is what we have been doing for years and it was not working. The problem with this administration is that they have done a very good job explaining to Nigerians that the policies of the past, though they looked good were simply not sustainable. I remember looking at Nigeria's income statement last year and seeing that we were spending most of our revenue servicing debts and I was really surprised because if Nigeria was a business, it would have shut down by now. You don't spend almost 100% servicing your debts. It's not sustainable (it can't last forever). Let the naira float and please don't bring back subsidies. |
Ikaeniyan0:They need to leave it to the market. Artificially propping it like the way we had been doing in the past was not sustainable. You have to burn through your reserves to keep that going. We just couldn't do it forever. |
Wait, i thought David Lammy was a Tory (Conservative)? How is a cabinet minister for the opposition party? Please someone familiar with UK politics should school me on this. |
Wow! thanks for the post. |
emkz:Our law systems are very similar to each other. Ours is based on their model so yes it makes sense for there to be synergies between our law system and theirs. I would say it would be better for us if British lawyers could practice in Nigeria as that would increase the number of skilled foreign workers working in Nigeria. I would like to see a lot of foreign law firms opening up shop in Nigeria. |
emkz:And why exactly did they ruin the MOU?? |
kingthreat:Well, a lot of our laws don't even make sense in the first place. What in goodness name is Naira abuse for goodness sakes? Can someone please explain that to me? You mean of all the crimes and financial malfeasance going on, you are focusin on a cross dresser "abusing" the naira? I mean if i was a prosecuting attorney, i won't even bother to pick up the case. It would be a waste of my time. In fact, i suspect that the reason he was charged was probably because he angered someone in a high position because this doesn't make much sense. Also, when it comes to our political system, well there is a reason it does not work, and that's because the Nigerian people hardly had a say in it so you can see why its not working but either way, that's another discussion for another day. |
Elections should be left to the local government, not the fed government. It should be decentralized that way it should be difficult for the fed govt to rig their candidate in. Maybe you can rig the elections in one local govt but you can't do it in all of them so it makes coordinated national rigging more difficult. |
The pandering from Megyn Kelly is something else. I doubt even someone like her would vote for Trump but she needs his supporters. |
Donaldoni:Yeah, but that should still not be a reason for execution. |
Winnin009:Sir, I don't know if i agree with you on that. I feel that each child is different and should be treated as such. I have gone to school with people who were significantly younger than 18 and they held their own just fine that you won't have known they were much younger had they not told you. As a result, I strongly feel that there shouldn't be a minimum age on who should write JAMB and that each university should be able to determine what age they are willing to admit a student. |
When did protests become a crime worthy of death in this country? |
ChizzyBuna:Bros, you are hilarious. You should have been a sociologist and your meme of Shannon Sharpe is hilarious. |
zhike:Not that they are incapable, its that we don't hire the best people in the first place. The right administrators should be people of integrity and proven experience in leadership and management. For example, someone who has run an institution well should be able to run a football club well. There is not much of a difference. |
Zihno:Man, Ivy League is just a designation given to a bunch of universities clustered in a certain area of the country or that were created during a particular era, it doesn't necessarily they are particularly better than the others. For example, MIT, Stanford or California Institute of technology are not regarded as Ivy league but if I want to study engineering, you bet I will pick any of them over any of the so called Ivy leagues. |
tarboshi:Wow! that's counter-productive to the student don't you think? I mean not all students are the same. So if you have a genius at age 14, he should have to wait 4 more years to write JAMB? Wow! |
zhike:It’s possible as they have the potential. They have a large population all they have to do is fix the organizational issues plaguing the football administration and they have a chance. |
Gerrard59:Cos there are not much jobs for foreigners in those fields as they are mostly taken by the natives. STEM on the other hand has a limited number of natives. |
Why are we still sending STEM graduates abroad? What Naija needs to be doing right now is to be educating its future leaders. We need people educated in non-technical fields like philosophy, history, political science, literature, Economics and Law in the elite institutions in the world like Brown University, Princeton, Harvard, University of Oxford, University of Cambridge etc. We need to look for a way to start training its future statesman and women. We have way too many technical graduates going abroad and not too many from the Arts and Sciences. |
This is something they needed to have done years ago. Smh. |
Jorge91:Expand in this business environment where even an established power house like Shoprite can't thrive? |
This man is definitely mistaken that's for sure. This should be a cause for alarm that an established company can't succeed in Nigeria then that says a lot about our economic policies. |
Really sad. A lot of people are going to lose their job and to make matters worse this shows that Nigeria is not an environment that businesses can thrive in. |
My gosh! This is so sad. Think of all the jobs lost. If a company like shoprite cannot even survive in Nigeria what does that say about the business climate in the country. This is an indictment on the ruinous economic policies Nigerian leaders have pursued since independence. It’s really sad. |
Amen. Thank God for the miracle. I receive it for myself too in Jesus name. |
My married friend once told me that the number 1 thing I need to look out for when looking for a wife is temper. Bros, as the saying goes when someone shows who they really are, believe them the first time. |
Commonsense99:Honestly, they should ban JAMB and post UME. Even here SAT is not compulsory (some schools require it while some don’t). |

That is info from the colonial administration at the time. If their is one thing i know about the British and Europeans, it’s their penchant for record keeping. |
Babatunde40:You do know it was the British who were in charge back then and not Nigerians and if there is one thing I know about the Brits or the Europeans is their book keeping. I still go to the library in my school and other schools once in a while and I read colonial reports on Nigeria and other countries. They are so detailed. I am not saying the records would have been 100% perfect (they probably underreported some of them) but as you can see they most likely tried the best to capture the info to the best of their ability after all Nigeria was their territory and it’s people were it’s subjects. |
