Hey guys, my Visa was approved this morning at the Lagos consulate. Here is my transcript

VO:good morning
Me:good morning

VO: pass your i20 and passport
Me: *hands it over*

VO: do you have any relatives in the United States?
Me: yes, my sister

VO: where does she stay
Me: I mentioned the name of the state

VO: what does she do
Me: she's a student

VO: why did you choose to go to Mcneese
Me: Mcneese state university has an abundance of school spirit including various campus activities to choose from
I noticed she was shaking her head so I stopped talking

VO: you haven't answered my question
Me: the department of biology at Mcneese State University advances student knowledge through a wide range of opportunities to enter the work force or continue their education
She was still shaking her head, so I started shaking

VO: we know that, I need a specific reason
I got really scared so I started blabbing along the lines of "it has the technological and reseach facilities that will aid my learning"
She still continued to shake her head

VO: all schools in the United States do that, I haven't heard your reason for picking this school
Me: Mcneese gave me the highest scholarship which is why I chose to go there
Then, she nodded

VO: that is what I wanted to hear. So, who will be sponsoring your education
Me: my mom

VO: what does she do
Me: she's an accountant that works with XYZ company

VO: can I see her bank statement
Me: sure
This is where my heart was beating frantically because the money there wasn't up to the estimation of my fees but that was the best my mom could do

VO: does she have other bank accounts
Me: yes, she does

Vo: she just smiled and said "come and pick your Visa in 3 days time"
I was literally crying on the spot. I couldn't stop saying "thank you ma" because everyone who went before was denied but I didn't lose hope
So, all in all, thank you guys. This thread has been nothing but helpful to me and I hope others will benefit from this thread

I had a full tuition waiver with 13,300usd deficit. Used uncle as my sponsor. VO didn't as for his SOA.

So, they denied my Visa today in Lagos.

Don't bother asking about transcript. I'm not refiring on the course and School.

So, I figured the song here is the way to go (Funding is the New Ivy)... And I think the thing about Masters that can be done online is a thing too and Aunty/Uncle funding is becoming a no no... He didn't even ask for SOA.

So... I'm starting all over again... I wish I knew this page before I started...

Please....Sharwama, Lagosismyhome and anyone to put me thru how to go about funding... I will be glad..

The problem isn't funding from your uncle/aunt......anyone can fund your studies if you're able to give a reasonable explanation as to why the person is funding your studies.......the problem is the fact that you're doing a course that can 100% be done online and without full funding from the school.

Don't forget to tell the VO why you'd prefer to study on campus and not the online program.....speak about being focused in class which you might not get with the distractions that might come with an online program and also about the fact that class interaction can benefit you in a sense that you can learn from your piers too.

In simple terms, Caribbean medical schools have affiliations with US teaching hospitals. Students in those schools apply for a B1/B2 visa to get their clinical experience at those teaching hospitals as explained in the foreign affairs manual (FAM). They do not get an F1 cos they aint students of US medical schools.

The medical clerkship is only for medical students pursuing their normal third or fourth year internship in a U.S. medical school as part of a foreign medical school degree. (An “elective clerkship” affords practical experience and instructions in the various disciplines of medicine under the supervision and direction of faculty physicians at a U.S. medical school’s hospital as an approved part of the alien’s foreign medical school education. It does not apply to graduate medical training, which is restricted by INA 212(e) and normally requires a J-visa.)

c. (U) Business or other Professional or Vocational Activities: An alien who is coming to the United States merely and exclusively to observe the conduct of business or other professional or vocational activity may be classified B-1, provided the alien pays for his or her own expenses. However, aliens, often students, who seek to gain practical experience through on-the-job training or clerkships must qualify under INA 101(a)(15)(H) or INA 101(a)(15)(L), or when an appropriate exchange visitors program exists (J). Provided certain requirements are met, interns at embassies, consulates, miscellaneous foreign government offices (MFGOs), missions to international organizations, or international organizations may qualify for A-2, G-1, G-2, G-3, or G-4 visas. See 9 FAM 402.3-5(D)(1) and 9 FAM 402.3-7(B). Interns at the United Nations may also qualify for a B-1 visa if the requirements in 9 FAM 402.3-7(D)(2) are satisfied.

If your appointment is not around the corner you can fill in another one

There are free online tools to edit passport photograph. While editing make sure the length and breadth are equal then you can upload it on your ds160 form.

How about the one I would take to the embassy?.........and what online tool is that?

Don't sign it since you're above 18......and try and upload the photo before you go to the embassy
