* After yet another trophyless season, Arsene Wenger tells Arsenal fans that he has spotted the problems in the side and will regulate them in the transfer market.

* One month after making these comments, and with no one still signed, the apologists begin by claiming that 'Arsene needs to wait for the World Cup to finish' before signing anyone.

* Apologists then come to the realisation that the 15 year olds Wenger intends on signing aren't at the World Cup, since Burundi, Burkina Faso and Zamunda aren't taking part.

* Chamakh comes in on a free. He adds firepower to 'new signings' Eduardo, RVP and Vela (all back from injury of course).

* The World Cup finishes and still no sign of a top defender, top midfielder or top striker. Wenger apologists then claim that Arsene is 'waiting for Godot'.

* A week later, Wenger bemoans the inflated nature of the transfer market.

* Almunia gets a job waitering at the Ivy and Fabianski is hailed as the new Lev Yashin.

* With 2 weeks to go until the start of the season, and still no sign of further additions, Wenger picks up a turd from Hampstead heath and puts it in the squad.

* One day after watching the turd in training, Wenger insists that 'he cannot find anything better than what he currently has'.

* Arsene's cult agree. Some random 'diehard' claims that anyone criticising Wenger's decision to sign the turd should 'go and support Chelski or Citeh'. If Wenger has seen the turd in training then he Knows best.

* The season begins. Arsenal destroy Ebbsfleet 15-1 on the opening day, with the turd even getting in on the act.

* Cue riotous celebrations. 'Arsene Knows' and 'the turd has proved his critics wrong'.

* Turd is given a massive contract extension and bumper pay rise the following day.

* With one week to go until transfer window close, Arsenal are top of the league by alphabetical order mind, so why would he need anyone else?

* Transfer window slams shut. Only then does Wenger reveal he was 'very close' to signing Lio Messi, David Villa, Whitney Houston and Robert Mugabe.

* Arsenal surge to a great run and are top on new year's day!

* Wenger goes on to throw the FA Cup. Range of deluded apologists defend this disgraceful decision.

* In the following weeks, Arsenal play Man United. Despite 100% possession, Arsenal have no shots on goal and lose 5-0 at home to Man United's 3 shots ongoal (plus a Denilson + Fabianski og).

* Random Arsenal player gives a loudmouth interview claiming 'we will learn from this'.

* Two days later, Arsenal go to Stamford Bridge and only manage 80% possession. Didier scores a hat-trick inside 15 minutes.

* The Chelsea back-line and keeper decide to sunbathe for the rest of the match, safe in the knowledge that Arsenal will play one thousand pretty passes in front of the D, without anyone actually shooting.

* Wenger gives post-match interview, furious about Chelsea's 'anti-football' and disgusted that Ancelotti has invented a new on-field collective known as a 'defence'.

* Wenger is even more disgusted at the 6 foot plus fella on the nets preventing the ball going in. Arsene had always thought that bloke's job was to pick the ball out of the net once it had gone in?

* Robin Van Persie injures himself doing the moonwalk. Out for the season.

* Rosicky injures himself eating a Krispy Kreme, Out for '4-6 weeks'. Ends up being out for a decade.

* Arsenal fans claim that 'with a fit Rosicky and RVP' that the UK would definitely have won the Eurovision song contest.

* Now out of the league cup, FA Cup and title race, Arsene Wenger claims that these 3 competitions don't matter, and that only the CL does.

* After his kids have their undies pulled down my Man United in the CL yet again, AW claims he has discovered a new mathematical theory whereby third place is actually superior to first.

* Arsenal fans happily digest this and serenade Wenger, who is offered a contract for life.

This assumes that the coach is the problem doesn't it? I am not convinced that is the issue - the truth is, AW takes the flak anytime things go wrong, whether as a result of his failing or something else.
What could possibly be the issue if not the coach, he has tried different set of players in the last 5yrs. Tried different stadium, Tried different ball still same result TROPHYLESSNESS.

Ballon D 'or has been in existence since 1956.

The top 3 in 1982 were

1982

1st Paolo Rossi Italy Juventus 115
2nd Alain Giresse France Bordeaux 064
3rd Zbigniew Boniek Poland Juventus 053

Since the argument for Iniesta was that he scored a world cup final goal, How come Tardelli or Altobelli were not nominated in the top 3.

Any reason why Iniesta is in top 3 ahead of Sneijder?

The immediate younger brother of the former governor, Mr Abimbola Fayose, had stated that the family stood by the former governor and his judgment at all times, insisting that Obasanjo did not have any right whatsoever to call “our son and brother a naughty person which every Yoruba man will react to if in Fayose’s shoes.”

He maintained that the former president deserved what he got, as according to him, a man in glass house must not throw stones.

In his words: “While I agree that elders deserve respect, not all elders are responsible and, therefore, do not deserve to be called elders simply because they wear grey hairs without inward maturity.

“If our younger brother in the PDP wants PDP nomination, he should earn same through the people’s mandate in his constituency and not through his unwarranted apology to Obasanjo.”

Some Bayern news here

According to SportBild:

- Bayern are interested in Hoffenheim's Luiz Gustavo who could be the new DM behind Schweinsteiger and Kroos, the deal could happen in January for ~10M. He can also play LB
- they have been impressed by Criscito, he could join us in January
- another extension for van Bommel looks unlikely, a winter exit can't be ruled out

The winter+summer transfer budget for a GK (Neuer), DM (Gustavo), CB (Mertesacker may fit the bill) and LB (Criscito) is 60M. Furthermore a 36M deal for Dzeko is still possible

Dieter Hoeneß: "I'd be happy to have an aggressive player like van Bommel in our team."

Van Bommel: "Wolfsburg have a strong team. I don't want to talk about any transfer specualtion at the moment."

All teams who have gone a season unbeaten domestically won in Europe.

Steau Bucharest, PSV, Ajax AC Milan all went unbeaten domestically and went on to win in Europe but Arsenal have only played the CL semi twice in history.

Dude I wasn't talking about you. Some so called fans have said they'd prefer to go the next 5 years without winning, as long as it's another manager not AW - does that sound reasonable?.
Its perfectly reasonable. How can you continue to endure a hopeless situation. Wenger has shown that his best is not good enough in todays climate why not try someone else with a 50% chance of success vs Wenger with a 1% chance?

Dominated? I think not - the issue is that we didn't create enough chances, but even the most optimistic Utd fan wouldn't say they dominated, especially in the second half.
Can you give us the game stats. How many shot at goal did you have vs man Utd. Every stat pointed to the fact that Man Utd totally dominated the game.

All the above are true, but even when we were at our 'best' in previous years United have beaten us, so what is the real issue here? Note I'm not saying that we should just accept the defeat, but losing to your great rival is not an odd occurrence.
Losing to top teams for 10 games in a row should be worrisome to any club with a shade of ambition, I guess not GAYYners.

Slow your roll - even the most ardent Utd fan will say their team was mediocre as well last night. It wasn't a good game overall, but they just shaded it.
Give us the game stats to show that they JUST shaded it.

This is a near meaningless statistic to me, only good for 'bragging' - while I don't like losing to Utd, the near 'obsession' with the game is unrealistic. It is three points just like the rest.
Words of a loser. Soon it would be why worry about the League or CL its just a trophy like Emirates and carling

You're listening to too much hype and punditry. The issue THIS season is not with beating 'big' teams, but with beating the smaller ones - we've dropped just as many against just promoted teams, at home no less.
You lose to all big teams, you lose to small teams. What better definition can you give to USELESS

This 'streak' obsession is an unfortunate output of not winning the league in a while - many of y'all now look at beating the 'top teams' as your season high points instead of looking at winning the league/trophies.
It's a wrong perspective in my opinion
When you dont win a trophy, all these come to the fore.

mr dayo kanu. i love healthy debates. grin what i meant was they became house hold names worldwide performing in the english league. dont surprise me by comparing the french ligue 1 to the trio of english, spanish and italian leagues. id squeeze in german too.all the players you have itemised werent playing first team football and were largely disillusioned before coming to arsenal. ok scrap gallas from the list. i know guy roux, very respected amongst his peers.

my guy in d life we live in if you are lucky/blessed enough to work in your chosen profession and are respected by MOST of your colleagues for what u do, and manage to win a few world class projects etc, i feel u can be considered great. obviously our definitions of great clearly differ. nothing do u though. the fact that the word sack isnt even mentioned around his name despite his long lull of trophyless seasons should give you an indication of how highly regarded he is. the media[as horrible as the english one is], dont even mention his name when it comes to being sacked. in england hes a legend.
ladej,

Till year 2000, The English league wasnt that highly regarded, Even when the CL started EPL was only allowed 3 teams.

When the likes of Henry, Vieira, Pires, Wiltord came to EPL, it was clearly behind the Italian league and just at par with BL and French league.

BTW Are you saying Pires and Wiltord were not playing first team football before joining Arsenal, Kindly check your facts about this.

Before 2000, How many EPL teams made the CL knockout stages? Arsenal couldnt even make CL knockout in those ages, Wasnt it those times that Deportivo, Valencia, Kaiserslautern made mincemeat of Wengers sides?

If not for the hard work for Man Utd, EPL would be producing 3 teams till much later.

Ladej,
Which one do you think its easier playing Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid home and way vs Playing Derby County, Sheffield Wednesday, Coventry, West ham, Hull City, Wolves Home and away.

Do you think its easy to go to Nou Camp, Bernabeu, San Siro and Allianz Arena to pick results?

You mean Celtic would say going unbeaten in the Scottish league is difficult when the only big team they had to play was Rangers 4 times
