There are somethings in the bible that human understanding can not comprehend..Remember the scripture is written by inspiration. So those stories and illustrations you see there,to human eyes seems impossible, but with GOD it is very true and real @Sal C rightly said,God is omnipotent. Bible says, that we should pray the Lord to open our eyes of understanding that we may be enlightened and see the deeper things of his words. |
Thursday 5th December 2013 The Mysteries of Light Morning prayer- stir up your power,O Lord and come to our help with mighty strength, that what our sins impede, the grace of your mercy may hasten.B merciful to us your children and show us your light today. First Reading Isaiah 26 :1-6 summary- let the righteous nation which keeps faith enter in Responsorial Psalm 118 Alleluia.. Seek the Lord while he may be found, call upon him while he is near.Alleluia Gospel Reading Matthew 7:21-27 summary-he who does the will of the Father shall enter the kingdom of heaven. MEDITATION OF THE DAY The Lord is an eternal rock Isaiah 26:4 Near the southern tip of Spain, the British-owned rocks of Gibraltar looms over the strait connecting the Atlantic Ocean with the Mediterranean Sea.Over its history of siege and war,it has earned a reputation as a stalwart fortress.its stony visage appears impervious to forces of change. but its really not.The rock is slowly being eroded by the wind and water it seems to dominate. Some would say that this image of a long-standing fortress under-going erosion could apply to the society we live in today. Over the years,we have all seen changes in our cultures value system and the world around us.Some have been for the better.Other changes, however, have not been good.Issues like the sanctity of life and the values inherent in the family structure have been eroding, weakening our foundations and threatening the whole structure. When we think about this process of erosion,we can respond in one way of two ways.We can become angry and discouraged. But that only only leads to a sense of hopelessness and keeps us from acting right. Or We can take our cue from the Prophet Isaiah;trust in the Lord for ever! For the Lord is an eternal Rock.He is the one rock that will never crumble. He is the one foundation that will never fail.As the old hymn goes: No storm can shake my inmost calm, while to that rock I'm clinging. But there's more here.God also wants you to become a "rock" yourself;in your family and in your neighborhood. You can help stem the tide around you! just spend time with him everyday, and you will become stronger and stronger,a refuge of truth and hope for everyone around you.A you study his word and pray always, you build for yourself a strong wall of defense against the devil. Remember, your hope should be built on nothing else but on Jesus Christ, all other ground is sinking sand....Our God is an everlasting stronghold, run to him and you will be safe from the cares of this world. PRAYER-Lord,your love is an eternal refuge for me.Fortify me so that i may be a refuge for others........AMEN ![]() Maranatha |

Why is it that most tertiary institutions are pulling out from the strike? Is it now a lost battle? i don't want to believe that. But whatever be the case.Things must be done right. Thanks to the schools that have resumed. As it is now,its obvious that more damage have been done instead of good..months of waiting and delays in academic calendar. When next ASUU decides to go on strike, will the government take them serious? |
..ASUU is fighting a just course for the future of the tertiary institutions in Nigeria. My question is,will this be the only measure to be put in place to improve the standards? Read the points i raised on the decay in the universities as a result of negligence on their own part.Who will bear the blame? what will be done to also put things straight? As soon as the strike is called off and their demands met, it is the same set of gullible lecturers that the students will face. Toktee: Fg the is on the receiving end,abi u no d see? |
I just pray this strike will be the final one and will bring to end this constant strike actions. |
I will like to ask,who is loosing and who will gain from all these ranting and strike (ritual) between the lecturers and government?.. Only God knows when this routine ASUU Strike started, but its past 2 decades and what have we achieved? Our schools are no where to be found among the best world universities charts! Our government have refused to make education a top priority. Our past leaders have gone ahead to build private universities and making a fool of their regime. Our lecturers too have refused to develop themselves, delivering old and ancient form of teaching. Why don't we talk about the problem with our Universities n Polytechnics? How many graduates of our schools were either, not directly abused by lecturers(or know someone who was), or had to sort(pay for grades, or know someone who did)? Our students are been trained by people who are only interested in making quick money, selling handouts with matriculation numbers of the buyers! writing attendance as if that is the reason why they came to school.why are we hypocrites? How many of us are interested in improvements in the system? What is ASUU saying about these their members; who fail female students that do not give up their bodies? who fail students for not buying their handouts/textbooks? what of those lecturers that refuse to come to lecture? who still use 1st edition of textbooks that have 10th edition to teach students? who cannot use Abacus? who become professors just because they belong to the caucus? What is the government saying about these issues? Government MUST be ready to fund the universities. When these money is released, how are we sure it will not end up in some peoples pockets? Some might even start planning on how to embezzle the funds if care is not taken. This present government as far as i am concerned have not made education a priority. Our senators and house of rep members can not speak out, because their children are schooling outside Nigeria or in private universities......so no meaningful contribution from them. All we hear is how money will be allocated for meaningless ventures in Nigeria. Is there accountability in the universities as regards the funds generated during admission screening which includes; post UME forms, supplementary forms, diploma forms,pre-science forms, post graduate forms and all other forms being sold by the universities. The dues that students pay regularly for no reason where is the money? Even students have to contribute to carry out practical. I ASK,IS MONEY JUST THE MAJOR PROBLEM? I dont think that Universities in Kenya that are higher than our Universities get more funding! Is it just about higher wages? Is it just about been able to award contracts to themselves? We need money to make our laboratories standard....have you seen these labs during accreditation? What about the moral decay? What about research? What about retraining? Are these issues on the table? Or we are just waiting to see who says what, or who does what? Politicians send their children abroad, government refuses to carry out its responsibilities because of high level of CORRUPTION.what of lecturers, don't they? As far as am concerned this is all politics and the poor are paying d price! students end up graduating when their mates elsewhere have started working or moved ahead.ASUU strikes leaves our standards lower than they met it! Having said all these, we still have some wonderful lecturers ( thanks to them) but they are fast declining in number! Now, is the empty threat to sack lecturers the reason why the strike should continue or otherwise? Would we rather scratch the surface, or end this harmful habit that will not improve our standards? . Thank you. |
And the bible also said,All things will work together for our good,as long as we believe....Our standard is God,but it takes our willingness to play our part and give up ourselves to him. . Sal C: AS FAR AS GOD IS CONCERNED, YOU ARE THAT VERY IMPORTANT WINNER. |
Wednesday 4th December The Glorious Mysteries Opening prayer- Prepare our hearts,we pray o Lord our God,by your divine power so that at the coming of Christ your son,we may be found worthy of the banquet of eternal life and merit to receive heavenly glory from is hands. First Reading- Isaiah 25:6-10 Summary- The Lord God invites us to his feast, and wipes away tears from all faces Responsorial Psalm 23 Gospel Reading Matthew 15:29-37 MEDITATION OF THE DAY This is the lord, let us rejoice and be glad that he has saved us! Isaiah 25:9 Did you know that in 2012,worldwide lottery sales topped $275 billion?Every week, tow hundred million people play in the Europe lottery. In the UK, about 70% of the adult population plays the national lottery. Why do people spend so much money for the tiniest chance of winning a fortune? Hope and trust.Despite all logic, they have a glimmer of hope and trust that they will be that ONE out of the millions, and their lives will be made perfect.Yet even as we dream about winning, the reality is that most big winners are less happy afterward.Half of them ,in fact, end up bankrupt within a few years. So if the lottery is nearly impossible to win and doesn't guarantee happiness, where is the hope? What is worth trusting in? Each of today's readings gives us the answers we need to hear .Trust in the LORD. In psalm 23,David trusts that God will take care of his every need and protect him from harm.Lastly,Matthew describes what happened when four thousand people and above trusted and stayed with the LORD for three days.He fed them all with just few loaves and fishes and had baskets left over. As far as GOD is concerned, you are that very important winner. He will take your meager fish and bread and exchange them for baskets of blessings. All you have to do is to TRUST and BELIEVE in his power and word......he has promised that he will not leave you nor forsake you.Remember those who put their trust in the LORD are like mount Zion which shall not be shaken.I have never seen the righteous forsaken or his children beg for bread. Where is your hope? in mere mortal?......come back to GOD and have that peace and joy you desire. PRAYER-Lord help me to keep my dreams focused on you.I trust that you will provide everything that i need.Help me to stay close to you even in this advent. AMEN |
I am new here......please welcome me o. Nice being a part of the thread, may GOD bless you all. You can check out a thread i opened on daily devotion used in my diocese which is for our spiritual growth. To my brothers and sisters, dont be misled or angered by what the pastor said he is mere mortal and has no power to condemn, remember your sole duty is to serve God and love your neighbor. Thank you...........i will do just that! Will be updating this page regularly for our spiritual growth |
Tuesday 3rd December Remembering St Francis Xavier, priest. First Reading Isaiah 11:1-10 Summary- The spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him' Responsorial Psalmm -72:1-17 Alleluia Alleluia.Behold our Lord will come with power and enlighten the eyes of his servants.Alleluia Gospel reading Luke 10:21-24 MEDITATION OF THE DAY Although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned, you have revealed them to the child-like luke10:21 Why are mysteries so intriguing to us? Real life unsolved crimes, detective novels an television series all seem to capture our attention and draw us in.The spark our imagination and make us want to figure out the truth. Then we we solve the puzzle or find the missing link,we are pretty happy with ourselves. Its almost as if we have a built-in need to understand,a constant inner quest for truth that keeps driving us to the bottom of things. Likewise,we all have an inner need to find God and to understand the mystery of who he is.Every persons quest for purpose, meaning, and hope is at its core, the quest to understand God and his plan for us.How blessed we are, then, that Jesus promises to reveal the mysteries of his kingdom to the child-like! we don't have to be wise and learned. We don't have to study ancient languages or memorize philosophical treatises. We just have to receive the revelation with the simplicity and trust.God is eager to show himself to you! He wants to show you the path he has carved out for you, and he wants to give you all the grace and inspiration you need to walk that path with trust and confidence. It was never his intention to hide himself or his ways. One of the best ways to receive God this advent is to celebrate the sacrament of reconciliation,go back to God and reconcile with him, confess your sins and ask him to forgive you. By its very nature, sin blocks the light of Gods grace.it casts clouds over our hearts so that we can not see the Lord or hear his voice. But just one humble confession, coupled with a renewed commitment to prayer and true devotion to God is all we need to dispel these clouds and let his light shine anew. Learn to forgive your brothers and sisters who may have hurt you.Never hold on to grudges and evil done to you. Remember JESUS CHRIST is the only reason for this advent PRAYER-Lord open my eyes and show me your kingdom, cleanse my heart so that i can see your glory..........AMEN |
I am back after a long break..............sorry my people,we will continue our daily devotion and try to equip us spiritually during this Advent. Remain blessed |

The World Bank as the largest external financier of education in the developed world found a reason to partner with the Lagos State Government to develop education to the tune of $90m, an initiative called the Lagos Eko Project. The body seems to recognize the fact that as the commercial nerve center of Nigeria -the most populous black nation in the world - education in the state needs all the attention it can get. But if the state of the furniture in public secondary schools in the state is anything to go by, this needed attention is lacking. Investigation has revealed that the issue of bad furniture in the schools might be more common than expected in the state. Public secondary schools visited in different parts of the Lagos mainland on Tuesday and Wednesday revealed that much. When this correspondent visited Ewutuntun Grammar School in Mafoluku area of Oshodi, pupils were seen sitting on the bare floor in some classes while lessons were going on. In one of the classes in the junior section of the school, a female teacher was speaking animatedly as she delivered her lesson, while the pupils, who sat in various fashion, listened with rapt attention. Some sat on their desks writing on books balanced on their hands. But what was unusual about the classroom was the fact that some of the pupils who could not find chairs to sit on, sat on the bare floor in front of the class as they strained their necks upwards to gaze at the teacher. In another junior class in the school, a couple of pupils sat at the back of the classroom, on the bare floor with their backs resting on the wall while they laid their books on their laps to write. Perhaps, tired by her long sitting on the cold hard ground, one of the pupils on the floor simply lay down beside her friends and dozed off. No teacher was in the classroom at the time. One of the pupils sitting on the floor said he found it more "comfortable" sitting on the floor than on the bad planks. "The broken desks tear our uniforms when we try to manage them. Sometimes we put planks from the desks on the floor and sit on them but those who cannot find planks sit on the ground," the pupil said. It turned out that the problem of furniture is not peculiar to only the junior class as is the case in Ikeja Grammar School. In one of the classrooms used by the senior section of Ewutuntun Grammar School, some of the pupils could be seen sitting on planks of broken desks as a lesson went on. The pupils were about 40 in the class and most of them had a place to sit. But it did not seem likely that many of them were actually comfortable on what they were sitting on. A couple of the pupils stood at the door looking in as a few stood beside the window inside as they looked on at the teacher in front of the classroom. Senior class two was a mess of scattered chairs that were in poor state but which the pupils still had to make do with. The desks and wooden contraptions that make up their chairs, seemed impossible to be arranged in orderly rows. The class looked like jumble of broken chairs and desks. At Iloro Grammar School in Agege area of Lagos, the story was the same. A long perimeter fence, big compound and relatively good buildings of the school are facades that masquerade the dire condition of some of the classrooms in the lower classes. The junior secondary school has just three classes - JSS 1A-1C but in each of these classes made up of about 45 pupils, the front row is dedicated to pupils who have to make do with sitting on the floor. In one of the JSS1 classes, one pupil sat on her own legs folded under her, another used her school bag as seat on the bare floor while another simply stooped as a teacher laboured to explain a point before the class. This correspondent moved to another class, Room 9, where no lecture was holding at the time and spoke with one of the pupils sitting on the floor. When our correspondent asked a pupil how he felt sitting on the floor, the reply of the boy showed the pupils no longer see it as strange to sit on the floor in a pre-university institution. "Those who don't have chairs are the ones who sit on the ground. I sit on the ground too. Sometimes, when there is space with someone on a bench, I manage with the person. But when I don't find it easy writing when three of us are sitting on a broken bench, most times I sit on the floor," the boy said. Asked whether they had been advised to bring chairs from home, he said no. When this correspondent went undercover to investigate the state of furniture at Fagba Junior Grammar School, Iju Road, Lagos, the situation turned out to be as dire as it is in other schools visited. This correspondent observed for more than 10 minutes a group of boys armed with stones and hammer as they worked in the front of JSS 1E/F class. The centre of their interest was a couple of planks that had previously broken off from desks and chairs. The pupils hammered these planks together to make contraptions that could serve as seats for a couple of days. These young 'carpenters' worked on the planks with enthusiasm as attendance of pupils inside the class was being taken by a teacher. Fagba Junior Grammar School has three blocks. Each of these blocks has about six classrooms each. But each of these classrooms was very congested because of the number of pupils crammed in them. The situation inside class 1E/1F looked scary. The congested classroom had about 60 pupils cramped into every space available in the room, safe for a small space left for the teacher to stand in the front of the blackboard. One of the pupils doing carpentry work in the front of the class said the nail-ridden planks they were working on had broken many times, necessitating constant work to put them together so they could sit on them. When our correspondent asked a group of pupils whether they thought they would do better in their subjects if they had better chairs to sit on, one of them answered, "I think so." Saturday PUNCH has not named the pupils spoken with in this report to prevent any attempt to identify them in the school as was the case in Ikeja Grammar School, published last Saturday. In most of the schools visited, there were signs showing that they were part of the Lagos Eko Project, which was meant to improve education in the 639 public secondary schools in the state. The website of the project indicated that there are 620,120 pupils in public secondary schools in the state as at April 2013. The findings about the state of furniture in public schools in the state, have elicited more reactions from parents. Some of them said there was no excuse for the decay in infrastructure in these schools while others took the positive angle of saying the population in the state made it impossible to totally improve the schools. One of such parents, a man who has a child in a secondary school in Oshodi, Mr. Aliu Ogundijo, said, "What happened to the billions of naira internally generated by Lagos State that we hear about everyday? If this kind of situation still exists in schools, my opinion is that it is hypocritical to undertake multi-billion-dollar projects such as the cable bridge and light rail because education should supersede all these things." John Kudere, whose child attends a public secondary school in Ikeja, said there were adequate chairs in the school his son attended but added that the findings showed that a lot of pupils were at a disadvantage in the state's educational system. He said, "What this means is that sending your child to a public school because you cannot afford a private school is like condemning such child to a low educational system that may have a negative impact on his life in future. "Public schools are supposed to be as important to the government as any other issue in the state. They are not supposed to be given a fringe focus by the government." Mr. Lloyd Ebenezer, who also spoke with Saturday PUNCH however, opined that the rising population of the state makes it impossible to perfectly manage public schools in the state. "I am not saying this is an excuse for government not to improve these schools. I believe a lot should be done but I think the high enrollment in schools contribute to the decay in facilities," he said. Several calls made to the Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Olayinka Oladunjoye, on Thursday, were not answered, but she later replied a text message seeking to know when the public should expect intervention in the schools. "You may wish to liaise with the public relations officer of the ministry as I am presently not in. We work with the budget please," she said. |

A lot of toddlers and kids are being sexually abused these days either in school or at home.I have clear examples presently, please lets not ruin the future of our children. |
#1: Warn your girl child never to sit on anyone's laps no matter the situation including uncles. #2: Avoid getting dressed in front of your child once he/she is 2 years old. Learn to excuse yourself. #3: If you have to hire a house-help, please kindly take them for HIV screening to determine their HIV status, properly interview them and make up your mind to treat them well. #4: Never allow any adult refer to your new born as 'my wife' or 'my husband'. #5: Never tempt your husband with your younger sister. (Else he'd say its her's and the devil's fault) #6: Avoid unnecessary familiarity and make sure you take care of your husband by yourself lest you lead him into temptation. #7: Whenever your child goes out to play with friends make sure you look for a way to find out what kind of play they played together because young people now sexually abuse themselves. #8: Never force your child to visit any adult he or she is not comfortable with and also be observant if your child becomes too fond of a particular adult. #9: Once a very lively child suddenly becomes withdrawn you might need to patiently ask a lot of questions from your child. If you don't teach your children about sex, the society will teach them the wrong values. #10: It is always advisable you go through any new Material like cartoons you just bought for them before they start seeing it themselves. #11: Teach your 3 year old how to wash their private parts properly and warn them never to allow anyone touch those areas and that includes you (remember, charity begins at home and with you) #12: Blacklist some materials you think could threaten the sanity of your child (that includes music, movies and musicians) and let them understand the value of standing out of the crowd. #13: Once your child complains about a particular person, don't keep quiet about it. Take up the case and show them you can defend them always! #14: Pray with your children, pray for them also and teach them the word of God. |
