Education / Re: How Do I Teach Little Children Coding? by debbie(f): 6:03pm On Jul 06, 2022
I teach my kids with scratch, Minecraft, tynker and a few cool applications.
You don't need to overload them at this age, that is the mistake we make in Nigeria.

Even as an adult learning coding involved more than just following the structure...you need to build some soft skills like analytical, critical thinking, logical and creative abilities for you to really enjoy it.

For these kids please allow them have fun while learning, help them discover their skills and engage them...else you won't get the best .

Tech is good, but it must be fun too

The next available date is in July and I want to apply for Visa in Mid June
What do I do ?
Go to their office in Lagos or Abuja and book.a closer date possibly. Try and explain to them as well your condition. Don't rely on online booking. My opinion

OP you went to my village, this us beautiful to see her face, I was told her twin sister is more.those days when we travel for Christmas a lot of people come around just to see her. They gift them and enjoy chatting with them. Their memory is too sharp and always cheer ful

I met the only surviving twin saved by Mary Slessor over 100 years ago (Video)

Mary Slessor was a missionary posted from Scotland to Calabar in Nigeria by the Presbyterian Church in 1876. She also lived in Arochukwu Nigeria during her missionary work. Mary Slessor stopped the killing of twins in Nigeria and she achieved this by saving a lot of twins either left in the bush to die or from their homes where their mothers hid them.
One of the twin babies Mary Slessor saved by herself before the killing of twins was finally abolished is Mgbeafor Okereke. I met her in her home in Amasu, Arochukwu, where I had an amazing interaction with her.

This is totally false. You don't know python that much to understand that you use Django for it. I have built several web application
from ecommerce,to real estate and online learning portal backend using Python Django and MySQL or postgresql.

GitHub commit is not the only means to access ones competence. I choose projects to make public and all. All these small projects doesn't need contribution. Simple HTML,css, and JavaScript....unless it is a big project that requires complexity.

Private repo? If I may ask, why?
How would potential employers see your code? Why are you paying for a private repo when you're just learning? How would others contribute to your code? Just why?

Programming / My Projects As A Software Developer by debbie(f): 4:26pm On Feb 22, 2022
Few years ago when i started my career as a software developer, I was able to build a few personal projects before going further to gain more skills. I was just going through my folders and found some of them. Remember the hosting for frontend is done on netlify and backend hosted on Heroku.
Some of the stacks involved are

React .JS
MaterialUI
Bootstrap
HTLM5
CSS3
Python/Django
JSS
Webserver- gunicorn
jQuery UI
Animate CSS
Google font API
Ionicons
Lightbox
Isotope
Some APIs
And other JavaScript libraries and tools

Hosting a backend project can be tough especially working with python. But the most important thing is to consistently grow your skills and be ready for work.

1. A movie App- You can search for any movies or series you like.
https://movies-series-apps.netlify.app/

2. A weather app- you can search for any location in real time
https://weather-reporting.netlify.app/

3. A property listing project- built largely with python/django for backend
http://debbie-realestate.herokuapp.com/

4. A simple demo project for a company
https://energio.netlify.app/

Dont despise the days of your little beginning....keep growing. This is an encouragement to anyone out there struggling to get your foot down. If as a mother with children I could grow my career there is nothing limiting you.

When I look back I smile .

Programming / Re: What Attracted You To Learn how to code? by debbie(f): 8:43am On Feb 16, 2022
If you want to go into TECH, coding is not the only aspect....i have started seeing a lot of people who are interested in coding. The truth is you need to understand why you want to be a programmer.

In the coming years coding will no longer be as we all know. Already there are tools that have already developed codes and it needs you to work on the functionality...instead of coding from scratch. You need to know that technology is transient. So start thinking beyond coding alone and how to grow with the trends in the tech space. As a beginner, you will surely be confused at this point because you are yet to understand where to start.
Programming / Re: What Attracted You To Learn how to code? by debbie(f): 8:34am On Feb 16, 2022
A Developer knows how to code and may have the technical skills needed to build meaningful products. A software engineer follows a systematic process of understanding requirements, working with stakeholders, and developing a solution that fulfills their needs. A Developer tends to work alone. A software engineer is part of a larger team”
Also in summary----
1.So the software developer is mainly focused on developing code that is a part of the software development cycle. An engineer designs and plans applying the principles of engineering to software development. Always aware of the “big picture”, with talents in many areas

2.Anyone can be a software developer. If you know a small amount of programming concepts then you have the foundation to become a Software Developer. Not everyone can be a software engineer.

I can't seem to differentiate it from Software development.

Okay back in the days i started learning coding out of curiosity and i started with Visual basic(VB) ....but I had to pause . After some years i went in fully as a software engineer and that curiosity kept me going. It takes more than passion to continue in coding, especially when the whole thing doesn't make sense and the expected result is not coming, plus debugging is more than enough to knock you out.
Commitment and disciple for my career pursuit kept me moving...So aside interest and the trend to be tech savvy.....you need more than these to push yourself. And if you dont have the right network of people, you easily get discouraged.

In Software development there are different paths to follow. You can choose to grow in one or more career paths. Its all depends on your ability and interest.
1.Frontend developer- programming which focuses on the visual elements of a website or app that a user will interact with (the client side). It is the first part you see when you open a website or an app. The features and all the interactions you see.

2.Backend developer- Back end development focuses on the side of a website users can't see (the server side). It is what makes the website or app to function well. What allows you to login, create account and have more access to the features you see.

Example- When you walk into a restaurant you are welcomed into the beautiful setup, you admire the whole outlook and you get seated(frontend), then the kitchen is where the cooking is done and the preparation is made(backend) which is later brought to you( frontend).
In an ideal situation, one can not really function without the other.... wink wink wink wink wink wink wink

Then there is this one we often call FULL-STACK Developer- Simply when you have knowledge of both frontend, backend and more .

Programming / Starting A Career As A Software Developer! Beginners Guide by debbie(f): 1:34pm On Nov 16, 2021
It is no longer news that the world is moving fast into the digital space and technology is what is driving this massive shift. As a young person that desires to start a career in software development there are basic things you will need to learn and keep learning as you grow.

First there are personal skills you must be ready to build, else you will struggle on this journey. Remember career in tech isn't for the faint hearted.

1. Discipline is one of the qualities you must build, it helps you to stick to your plan and focus on getting things done.

2. Ability to manage your time well...often times people complain they don't have time...who on earth has enough time? If you don't structure your time well you cant go far and you wont be able to grow.... your lack of time management will knock you out of focus.

3.Creativity- Yes ,you have to think critically and come up with great ideas that will help you explore more learning.

4. Be open to learning, don't assume you already have a clue......nobody is above asking questions. You must understand that you can learn from those older and even younger than you. The Tech space doesn't respect age.... it respects intellect and knowledge.

5. Set a target , start small.....don't set a year target when you cant even accomplish a weeks target. Set realistic and measurables target in your career.

Follow the thread for more guide into the journey as a software developer..............

Please I need help in filling the PR forms for my parents who were invited to apply , because my brother filed for their application as the sponsor. Now I realized they need to do biometrics in Lagos.

My problem is how to book the appointment, because their online portal is returning error message. Also if there are other tests they need to run as part of the applications.

And for anyone with similar visa experience please share some tips on how best to go about the application.

Thank you
