Literature / Uri Ngozichukwuka's New Book SAKADELLI Hits Major Online Bookstores by DebbyJose: 2:39pm On May 21, 2020
The trending new book from the west coast of Africa, SAKADELLI, has made its way to the White House Library and other leading universities in US and Canada

SAKADELLI is one of such stories, and it is told in colourful and poignant language - complete with evocative poetic as well as prosaic undertones

Whether it is one story in many multilayered dimensions or many interlocking stories, is for the reader to judge. What is clear, though, is that this volume is reflective of the multidimensional personalities and situations it describes, namely, characters who live their lives with what the French would call 'savoir-faire.'

The lives described in this book are far from perfect. On the contrary, they have had their share of sorrows as well as joys, disappointments as well as exhilaration.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0893MB9HD

But out of these experiences - many of which lead through many pathways (from both literal and metaphorical mountaintops to valleys) - comes a combination of self-awareness, acceptance and, yes, wisdom, a combination which makes SAKADELLI such a powerful, tender and funny book all at once. It is a celebration of life in all its beauty and chaos; a cautionary tale about right and wrong choices and their consequences; and an eloquent protest at many of the social ills and subtle injustices that we often take for granted, or turn a blind eye to.

It is a story written from the perspective of the eccentric title character, Sakadelli, who slides in and out of the stories to create a string of evocative and provocative and humorous stories to confront pervasive societal norms. This volume is a mirror which allows us to see ourselves in a humorous way, appreciate our follies and laugh at ourselves while deeply reflecting on the general rules of engagement in life - including living and loving.

Sakadelli takes the reader from the innocence of bygone childhood to contemporary issues, both peculiar to African society and international.

Sakadelli is published as a book for young adults across the globe (18 and above), as well as older, mature audiences in their roles as parents, guardians and mentors.

Some of the stories in this volume (such as ENYIOCHA & ENYIOCHA) are reminiscences of a sheltered childhood, complete with doting but stern parents with their unique brand of tough love, marred by a sudden loss of innocence as a result of war.

Others (like THE CONVO; OUR GIRLS, OUR DAUGHTERS, OUR SISTERS; THE MEN OUR MOTHERS RAISED, and others) are an examination of some of our cultural norms regarding gender issues, marriage and the place of the woman and girl-child in a patriarchal African society.

Stories such as THE VIRGINITY DIALOGUE deals with the crisis that usually accompanies a young girl's burgeoning sexuality, and the tragic, avoidable errors this can sometimes lead to.

In stories like, SO THE CARD MAKES IT OKAY? and RETIREMENT PLAN, the author chronicles a satirical account of the acceptable practice of Nigerians who go to great and often undignified and bizarre lengths to secure residency, citizenship or simply comfortable lives in the United States - often leaving a trail of heartbreak, tears and in some cases, blood.

SAKADELLI is written with passion, humor, pathos, and intelligence on some of the most critical issues of our modern, fast-changing society - from the mature mind of a well-processed point of view. Its unique and fresh perspective laced with humor .

Written in colorful prose along with its poetic flavor otherwise known as Verse, this makes SAKADELLI a brilliant offering, and a sumptuous literary feast to savor for a long time.

Properties / Skyland Set To Distribute 1000 Land In Lagos by DebbyJose: 9:45pm On May 09, 2020
Many people often wonder how Skyland Properties, which started from scratch 13 years ago phenomenally grew to become the leading real estate brand it is today. The phenomenal growth of Skyline has, in fact, become a subject of study by real estate enthusiasts.

Skyland Property is a company that’s over 13 years. They have done well over the years in providing shelter for Lagosians. Skyline Properties is situated around Ikorodu. It’s one of the few companies that do well but won’t make noise. The company is currently making hot sales in the heart of Ikorodu and its environments.

Skyland specializes in emerging property income markets and it’s currently pioneering niche and iconic projects in Nigeria and Africa.

The company has a proud history of experience and success, and the company has continued to produce and develop bespoke property investments in some of Nigeria’s most desirable locations.

Skyland properties is also a group of real professionals who specializes in the marketing, lease, and sale of new lands and properties, as well as resale of luxury homes.

Mr. Faruq Adeyinka Dosunmu is the Managing Director/CEO of this illustrious company. The company has developed top housing estates in Lagos. Speaking on what has been keeping the company afloat despite lockdown, he said.

I will say it is Focus. 100% focus. We don’t divert into other businesses. We don’t look at what others are doing. We just focus. We have our Vision Statement and our Mission Statement. One of the major statements in our vision is that we are daily-driven.

So we set our targets every day, every week, every month. We start a new month as if we are just starting all over again as if we didn’t achieve anything last month. So our Focus on Housing Provision is the key strategy.

We keep asking ourselves: how do we improve better, every week, every month, every year? How can we provide housing to meet up with the gap and demand? That is just it. I think Focus is the key factor", he said.

Skyland is currently running a mouth-watering promo in Ikorodu, with unbelievable price slash.

Politics / ‘LOCKDOWN WITHOUT FOOD KILLS FASTER THAN COVID-19’, ERELU OODUA ADVISES BUHARI by DebbyJose: 8:18pm On May 02, 2020
Popular custudian of Yoruba traditional history in diaspora, the renown Erelu Oodua and Irawo Oni of Yoruba, Tinuade Mabel Onaneye, has notified President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to ease the effect of lockdown imposed on the people to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in Nigeria by giving them money via Bank Verification Number (BVN) to cushion the effect of the hardship caused by the total lockdown

I a statement released from Texas, the United States of America, Erelu on Saturday, May 2, 2020, Erelu told President Muhammadu Buhari that Nigeria cannot effect a total lockdown because it does not have a functional systems like the developed countries.

Erelu stated that the United States and many other countries that enforced a total lockdown to battle the pandemic actually put adequate measures in place to lessen the sufferings of their citizens, Starnews NG can report.

She wrote:

“There is no justification for delaying the stipends meant for Nigerians in this difficult time.

“As effective as lockdown might be in curbing the spread of the ravaging coronavirus, government must be ready to actively play her own roles to make it work.”

“Asking a family that can hardly afford daily meals despite their daily hustles to stay indoors till only God knows when, can be very disastrous. Lockdown without food kills faster than COVID-19 itself.”

“Many Nigerians especially, women and children have been catapulted into with the additional costs burden caused by the lockdown as prices of food items have continued to rise almost on daily basis and people now spend so much to buy less.”

“Only a country with functional systems can afford a total lockdown.”

“In the United States and many countries battling the pandemic and enforcing lockdown, their governments put adequate measures in place to lessen their sufferings and Nigeria’s case shouldn’t be an exception,”

“It would be easy to reach every house, saying, “no matter how poor a family might be, at least one person will have a bank account with BVN through which they can be reached.” Erelu told President Buhari in the statement.

Culture / ROYAL SCANDAL: Erelu-Oodua Tinuade Berates Aare Almoroof Yekinni by DebbyJose: 2:29pm On Apr 23, 2020
Warns Him To Stop Desecrating Yoruba Royal Institutions.

Erelu-Oodua Tinuade Mabel Onaneye, the traditional title holder of Erelu-Oodua of Ode-Aye Kingdom and Irawo Oni of Yoruba, has on Tuesday 21st of April, 2020 cautioned, Mr. Almoroof Yekinni, the self-acclaimed 'Prince' of the incumbent Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi, to desist from actions he's known for, which are capable of causing discord among Yorubas in diaspora and belittling the revered and sacred Yoruba traditional stools.
Erelu in a statement issued at her base in Texas, United States described Aare Almoruf Yekinni as 'Arije-nidi-madaru' a Yoruba philosophical concept used to describe someone of bad character, who benefits from causing rancour and discord in any gathering or system. Such a person's significance, according to her statement "is directly proportioned to the magnitude of controversy he's able to orchestrate".
'"Almoroof in his desperation to be noticed ended up being in the news for wrong reasons. His latest, being the source of the trending scandal between one of the wives of Alaafin Oyo and the fuji music icon and Mayegun of Oyo Kingdom, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal commonly known as K1 De Ultimate. That was not his first. That is what he's known for. First, he claimed to be Alaafin Oyo's prince, yet it has been confirmed he's not related to Alaafin in whatever form. Again, he gave himself the title Alaafin of Washington DC without a reasonable basis. He's simply on a mission to make a mockery of the revered monarch", She added in the statement she personally signed.
On the much-discussed scandal, Erelu posited that even though she's not a fan of K1 De Ultimate, she still believes the allegation against the Fuji icon might be untrue given the pedigree and the shady background of Aare Almoroof Yekinni who was said to have sold the unconfirmed news to bloggers in Nigeria from his base in Maryland, United States.
Erelu reiterated that over the past few years, she and many well-meaning Yorubas in the United States have had the opportunity to observe and evaluate the mission and agenda of this perfidious element and have concluded he's nothing more than an attention-seeking none-entity, who goes about meddling into issues he's evidently unequipped to handle, desecrating the tradition, titles and throne that predates him. As a matter of fact, because of his untruthful and uncivil attitude, the much-respected Oyo-Tunji Royal Circle in South Carolina that honored him with BOBAGUNWA title has distanced themselves from him long before now.
Erelu called on every true son and daughter of Oduduwa living in the United States and other places outside Nigeria who might know this man to call him to order. She concluded, "Almoroof must tender an apology letter to Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi, Queen Basirat Adeyemi, Oyo kingdom and the entire Yoruba traditional institutions.
Erelu has been a resolute and articulate crusader, who is assertive and fearless. She has been telling truth to power despite whoever may be concerned.

“The song was borne out of the expensive lifestyles of Lagosians, who are widely known for exotic cars and state-of-the-art houses.

Health / Coronavirus: "Keep Them Safe Too!", EDWIIN Calls For Support For The Disables by DebbyJose: 6:30pm On Mar 24, 2020
It’s only been a week for Nigerians, but the effect of the deadly coronavirus emergency is about the only thing on anyone’s mind. Everyone is concerned about friends and relatives, as the government is trying to put in place, workable modalities to save the country from the clutches of the pandemic, but no one is talking about those who are extra vulnerable getting sick, the people with special need and disabilities.

This was made know by the convener of the popular Non-profit organization, Empathy Driven Women International Initiative (EDWIIN), Uri Ngozichuckwuka in a statement released on Tuesday, March 24, 2020, stating the urgent need to donate relief materials for persons with disabilities, PWDs, in the heat of the deadly coronavirus spread.

She wrote;
"When crisis strikes, people with disabilities face higher risks to their well-being and survival.

"The government is worried, the people are equally worried about the loss of income, careers, and businesses. We are afraid of what it will be like to “social distance” for months, rather than just a few days or weeks.

Uri Ngozichukwuka, Convener, EDWIIN

"How can we easily forget the high-risk group, who is considering the safety of the disabled people?

"When pandemics break out when the earth begins to shake, people with disabilities often cannot flee on their own, and their families may not have the strength or means to assist them. "Terrifying dangers can await those who are left behind, including the risk of death.

"While we make provision for an emergency as government and as people, People with disabilities usually fall through the cracks during response efforts.

"Lagos has its fair share of 15% persons with disabilities. The country already has 85% of its population living below poverty lines.
"People living with disabilities make up a significant percentage of those statistics.
"This is why our PWDs-driven foundation, EDWIIN is calling on government and well-meaning Nigerians to stretch their hands of support and donate for these people. These are terrible times for the Dwarfs, the deaf, dumb, albinos, blind, and orphans whose livelihoods are equally knitted to the efficiency of the regular commerce.
"In the wake of the world epidemic, these persons in the vulnerable target group stand a higher chance of starvation isolation and death before Covid 19 steps in
"Empathy Driven women international initiative ( EDWIIN) hereby, call on the state government and manufacturing companies across the country to partner with her and provide the basic necessities for these persons as soon as possible.
We call for donations of the following
Rice
Beans
Garri
Spaghetti

Noodles
Tissues
Sanitizers
Bathing soaps and detergents
Towels
Stipends.

Chloroquine
Logistics companies for deliveries
These items will help preserve them as the country grinds to a halt.
The logistics and distribution of these items will be sorted out by state representatives of persons with disabilities
EDWIIN calls on all to be empathetic towards each other in these times.

The advertorial, as placed by Nigeria Civil Defense, Correctional, Fire, And Immigration Service Board, has been tagged as Anti-Inclusion, as it specifically mentioned that "Applicant with any of the following physical challenge need not apply"

In a statement released by the convener of EDWIIN, Uri Ngozichukwuka, she hinted that Persons with disabilities are the subject of considerable discrimination, especially when it comes to employment. Many companies do not expressly include persons with disabilities in their workplace diversity policies and employers continue to express reluctance to hire these persons.

"In the wake of the recent signing into law of the Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act 2019 by Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari, the major challenge has become the question of implementation, especially by the supposed overarching agencies which recruit in the thousands almost annually.

"It is pertinent that we take into cognizance, any form of the public notice that makes a mockery of the disability bill which has been duly signed in 2019 by President Mohammadu Buhari.

"Such deliberate attempt to ridicule, and openly reject Persons with Disability in the workplace is taking the country back 20 years by this posture. As a society, we need to move with times and be more empathetic towards one another.

"Families with persons with disabilities are already bearing the brunt of their care. Those that acquired skills and education could contribute immensely to the economy. They make up over 15% of our population. How do we alleviate poverty if we do not engage this demography?

"People with disabilities are very good with admin work. Great at desk work and data collating.

"We shall continue to make noise until our aim, which a workplace free of discrimination, patronizing attitudes, or resentment on the basis of disability is eschewed.

"We are calling the civil defense out to retract this anti inclusion advert, as bothers on gross insensitivity and lack of regard for the United Nation's SDGs that other nations are striving to honor in all ways", She stated

EDWIIN has been at the forefront of the campaign for the domestication of various international protocols and conventions on the rights of persons with disabilities by the Nigerian authorities.

Celebrities / Popular Journalist Gbolahan Adetayo Caught Panting Down With Star Actress Kiitan by DebbyJose: 6:23pm On Mar 12, 2020
Popular entertainment journalist and Publisher of the movie-based online portal, Yoruba Movie Gist, Gbolahan Adetayo is in the eye of the storm as a video of him, having sex romp with a Yoruba movie actress has been leaked online.
The former City people movie editor was clearly seen in the video 'hitting hard' on KIITAN BUKOLA , an actress and entrepreneurs in what seems to be a public toilet.
Source, who is close to Gbolahan Adetayo hinted that the journalist might have probably blackmailed the actress, as he has some confidential and privileged information about her. and might have put her in a delicate condition that she can't refuse.
Recall that Gbolahan has been tagged as an enemy of the female actresses in the movie industry before he eventually joined with the first movie production called Aala Ife (Boundary of Love), a movie that broke the internet around 2018. He followed up with yet another blockbuster in 2019, titled After One.
The insinuation, for now, maybe hinged to the misconception that Gbolahan has offered Bukola the chance of getting a movie role if she can get down with him.
"It is quite unfortunate that a scandal reporter can equally be caught up in a messy scandal such as this", an insider stated.
All efforts to reach Kiitan Bukola and Gbolahan Adetayo on this matter prove abortive.

Just when we thought we have heard all about the custody case of Aisha Abimbola's children, fresh facts are now emerging from reliable source, one of victor's close who feels very concerned for the welfare of the kids but wants to be anonymous said Victor, the deceased ex-husband, has vowed to bring down heaven if his children are not returned to him. It's no more news that late Aisha Abimbola's ex-husband, Victor lost out in the custody case of the two children that the late actress left behind; Lase and Morenikeji.

It is either they hand over his children or he will end their lives.
he confided in a source that the reason he has not reacted is just that he has not set his eyes on either of them and does not have the documents to travel to Canada yet.
Lots of people are of the opinion that the issue of the children should be settled before either Lola or Ibrahin comes to Nigeria since Victor is out for blood.
Late Aisha Abimbola died in 2018 after battling with cancer in Canada, and the custody of her two kids was given to Lola Alao, her blossom friend. This has since raised a lot of controversy between Abimbola's ex-husband and her family. Abimbola had separated from Victor long before her cancer became chronic, and she had been single-handily taking care of her kids before her death.Do you really think they should hand over the kids to their father who never cared when their mum was alive

Finally, after a protracted, heated dialogue between MC Always and his legal team vs the lagos state government, the much anticipated outcome just broke with an earthquaking verdict that the musical single of MC Always can now graciously hit the airwaves.

Politics / Popular Lagos Comedian, MC Always Under Pressure Over The Release Of Hit Single by DebbyJose: 4:56pm On Mar 02, 2020
A popular Lagos-based comedian named MC Always has expressed concerned over the recent ban enforced by the Lagos state government on motorcycles and tricycles famously called okada and keke maruwa, which has hitherto been a major means of public transportation among Lagosians.
MC Always is one of those hilarious Naija comedians who manages to connect with his audience instantly. His comedy transcends boundaries of age, social status, or gender.

His ability to create material that is timeless and which appeals to pretty much everyone is what makes him one of the most popular entertainers in the Southwest.
MC Always chose to express his concern by the release of a musical single but has faced a very stiff opposition from the Lagos government. The government insists that the musical will not be permitted to hit the airwaves, insisting that it is inciting the public against the government and not portraying the government in a good light.
MC Always and his lawyers are making frantic efforts to persuade the government and strongly arguing with facts that it is a harmless piece of art only meant for public sensitization, awakening public consciousness and appealing to the good conscience of the government and its officials.
To this end, we yet await the outcome of this spirited dialogue between MC Always and the Lagos state government…

Business / Road To Ethlagos #power2020: Ethereum Meetup In Lagos Sold Out by DebbyJose: 6:22pm On Jan 27, 2020
In the build-up to the forthcoming EthLagos 2020, the Ethereum Meet up, which is billed to hold on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at the Venia Business Hub Lekki, Lagos is SOLD OUT

This is proof that technology is changing Africa and the world really fast. And concerned workers have already embraced the fact that work, jobs, and careers as we know them now are changing drastically.

Skills, jobs, and careers are fast becoming obsolete at an alarming rate. And one way or the other, everyone is caught in this trap.

Speaking to newsmen, Uri Ngozichukwuka, the Communication Director of the event expresses her shock at the massive sign-up that greeted the Meetup which was planned for no more than 100 participants, but got multiple responses and interest.

“We are surprised at the response of tech community; BLOCKCHAIN/developers/ software architect/ trainers/ partners sponsor all eager and ready for the upcoming ETH Lagos and BLOCKCHAIN week”, she told newsmen.

Uri added that the MeetUp shall feature tech experts and facilitators who have cut their teeth on digital and tech world.
Benjamin Onuoha, founder Africa BLOCKCHAIN Alliance, is one of the key organisers and the main speaker, and he will be accompanied by other blockchain professionals, who will also be speaking about the general hackathon rules for ETHLagos, applications and some introductory concepts on blockchain, ethereum and energy. Other speakers are:
Eseoghene Mentie – ConsenSys, Guillaume Ballet - Ethereum Foundation, Chimereze Nwosu – GIZ and
A representative from IEEE.
Bukkie Williams, a foremost software architect who is crafting the youthful generation into a digital army will be there and Module Oni, a notable advocate for child tech education will also be on ground with many more top-notch facilitators”

“In line with the changing digital clime, ETHLagos is a kind of hackathon focused on decentralized energy solutions. At this Meetup, renowned speakers will be discussing blockchain applications in the energy sector as well as the opportunities for developers and non-developers for ETHLagos”, Uri added.

Selected participants for The Meetup will be learning more about Africa's first hackathon on sustainable development.
The event will also enlighten students, workers, and tech-compliant operators, about the opportunities that abound in maximizing the use of the digital Technologies to their career advantage.

An important part of the ETHLagos hackathon is that it's not just a hackathon but an educational event with week-long workshops, training, and activities to get participants up to speed on blockchain and the energy sector. We also plan to incubate and accelerate winning projects so they can remain sustainable in the long run.

Health / CORONAVIRUS: Are We Ready Or Sleep-walking In Nigeria? – Risk Management Expert, by DebbyJose: 9:36am On Jan 26, 2020
Renown risk management expert, Joachim Adenusi, has called on leaders of the industry, government, and advocacy organizations to raise the awareness of the deadly coronavirus, as the virus spread over the week, and has sparked concern worldwide.

Joachim, a partner at Conrad Clark, a 16-year-old Risk Management outfit, spoke on the need to take preventive measure at this point, to avoid the Ebola experience that almost ravaged the country due to our porous immigration process, and what the country should be doing, as a matter of urgency.

He wrote:

“PREVENTION is better than cure”

‘Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS)…’ World Health Organization

Like Ebola…

The deadly Ebola virus found its way onto Nigerian soil on by airplane after a Liberian man infected by the virus had flown into Lagos from Monrovia.

As at the time, Ebola was an epidemic disease ravaging our west African neighbors, we at individually, communally or government level never had a plan in place to check the outbreak from getting to our shores. We were exposed to a very high level of human capital risk that cost us lives.

Here is another deadly virus on the rampage. Cases of this disease have been reported in countries like UK, USA, UAE, Malaysia, Australia, France, Japan, and Korea. All cases were traced to people who have in recent times be in the Wahun regions of China.

Why should Nigeria care?

The bilateral trade relationship between Nigeria and China reached $8.6bn from January to June 2019 with 20.7 percent year-on-year growth. China now is still Nigeria’s largest source of imports and second-largest trading partner.

With the aforementioned, the movement to and fro China and Nigeria route is a matter of necessity for economic and other reasons. Considering the state of things, even travel restriction has been put in place in China. The fear of having another Patrick Sawyer should make our system and institutions be on red alert.

Also, while we are watching our backs, it is important that we also put structures in place to manage this kind of human capital risk.

What we should start doing now in Nigerian?

Restrictions on flights from East Asia

Quarantine service across all ports and borders (air, sea, land)

Increase public awareness

Hospitals in high alert

Staff awareness for businesses

There are no vaccines for human coronavirus infections yet. Prevention should be highly embraced.

Education / The 4th Industrial Revolution Is Here – Dupe Oni Cries Out by DebbyJose: 2:04pm On Jan 11, 2020
Dupe Oni is a renowned educator and stateswoman. She is one of the very few women who have helped shape society we live in today, using the most powerful tool available: Education. Mrs. Dupe saw the 21st-century shift in perspective about education and technology as a tool to socio-economic relevance in the evolving digital space, which opened opportunities for people in the tech-compliant space, and she’s been at the forefront of the campaign for digital skills.

She is one of the most influential female educators who are changing the game through exclusively brilliant ideas, innovations, and advocacy for interactive academics.

Dupe Oni is providing quality education to the children through her early learning program. She has been doing this for the past 23 years and has managed to build a world-class citadel of learning in the heart of Lekki, in Lagos.

She believed in the idea that children should be able to shape their future in their own ways. She also believed that they should be sent to school from an early age to learn and acquire skills for a better life.

“Study your children while you can. The greatest gift you can give your child is not your riches, but revealing to them their own”, she said.

She is the Executive Director of the popular Standard Bearer School, located on 4,500 square meters of prime property at the heart of Lekki Phase 1, Off Admiralty way, Lagos.

Standard Bearers School is an early learning institution where academic and creative talents were given similar priorities.

Dupe Oni recently spoke to newsmen on the urgent need to revisit, review and reshape Nigeria’s curriculum to align with the fast-evolving Industrial Revolution, so as for Nigerian children to be relevant in the global space vis-à-vis the out-phasing conventional work pattern that characterizes Nigeria’s curriculum.

What role do you think technology can play in the future of African children? She was asked.

A year ago I couldn’t answer your question, but today, I see it clearly.

In Silicon Valley, someone made a comment. He said coding is the pencil of the future, and technology is the pen. I had to give it some thought and realize that is actually correct. If you listen to DAVOS 2019, you will notice the direction and future of work on a global scale.

When the topic, the future of work was introduced, the moderator said that in sub-Saharan Africa and in the poor countries around the world, 75 million jobs cease to exist in the next 10 years. She also said these jobs would be displaced and replaced by 135 million new jobs, but these new jobs will require new skills.

So this is how I processed it…there are many people that worked in the car industry 20 to 25 years ago; they were assembling cars. Their jobs were to fix the tyres, somebody’s job was to fix the windscreen, somebody else’s job was to fix the wheel; some did the wiring.

So what happened?

Those jobs gave way to a different kind of job where technology was brought in. It was cheaper; it was more efficient and it saved time. But it also required a different kind of skill; the managers of those robots that now assemble the cars needed to talk to the robots, they needed to instruct them, and so they need a higher skill they needed to upgrade to, so as to carry out that digital innovation.

But the people who were assembling manually lost jobs, the people who can speak to the computer got an easy job. So, that is the future I see.

Now, back here in Nigeria, we are in a global market, it's no longer about the African market and it certainly not the Nigerian market. It’s the world. And when we are preparing children for jobs, we have to prepare them for jobs that exist on a global scale.

Today we talk about so many graduates unemployed. They are unemployed because they have a certificate but they don’t have the required skills. The certificate means nothing because, what people are looking out for, is the skill that you bring with your certificate.

And so, Google says they don’t need graduates anymore, Uber says the same. They all want skills, and what skill do they want? Skills that can work with technology. So, it's not everybody that has to be an Engineer in technology, but everybody has to be able to know enough about technology to work in a technology-driven space. The future of work is within that space. There’s absolutely nothing that will go on 10 years from today in the world, that will not have technology embedded in it.

The 4th Industrial Revolution is upon us and we have to prepare our children for it. Now, there’s a young girl I spoke to, I tried to get her involved in Technovation 2020 because one of the things I’m doing now to impact children in techy space.

And she said, 'I don’t like Techy, I don’t know much about technology'. So, I asked her a question, what do you like to do best in your school? She says, is it the subject that I do well?

And I said my assumption is that you do everything well, academically. Your father has sent you to a very expensive private school, right? She said Yes. So, my question is, what do you like to do? What is it that you will do for free? And so she says, Maths and Biology’.

I’m confused’...Maths and Biology, and you don’t like Technology? She insisted, No.

So I realized then, that many children don’t even have an understanding of the future they are going to live in. But again, it’s not the children that don’t have the understanding; the parent, the school, many of us don’t have the understanding of the future that we are preparing them for.

Parents should spend their money wisely in getting the best and required education for their children to prepare them for the future that requires Artificial Intelligence

We think of technology as ICT; oh, they can use the computer; they are proficient at it, they can type, they can use Microsoft, excel, but that’s not what it’s all about. what kind of jobs will be available in the workspace tomorrow that they are going to be in? What skill is available for those jobs, or are required for those jobs? we need to teach those skills today, because if not, when they get into their future, like the student I just told you about, they will suddenly find themselves unemployable, after all the money their parents have spent on them.

Andela recently laid off some of its staff, and people were wondering why. But the reality was that Andella no longer wants to take fresh people with the basic skills and train them. What Andela now needs are people with intermediate and managerial skills.

They need an upscale of what they we're looking out for before. So, if a child is studying ICT, I don’t know what the curriculum is like in the Nigerian system, but that child, not only that he will have to come out with the languages (14, 16 languages in the coding space), but they also need to have some certain skillset in leadership, communication, public speaking, critical thinking, and particularly, problem-solving.

Because when they bring them to the table, they don’t want to tell them what to do. They want them to just come in and proffer solutions to problems.

When we went to Silicon Valley, they put 12 teams of girls in a room, and they said, ‘we’re going to teach you about A.I (Artificial Intelligence) and as an educator, I panicked.

I have 5 girls in this room; they are between 10 and 11 years old. Are they going to get this? I even had to say a little prayer. But they took them on a 15-minute lecture on exactly what they wanted and expectations, and they show them the process.

Then they let them go and said okay, we are going to mix you up. We don’t want you to work with your teams, you will be too comfortable. So 12 teams of 5 girls were established so that each girl was at a table with another girl from another country. Bearing in mind that in that group there will be about 4 or 5 that were in English Speaking, the rest of them did not speak English.

And they did the mix-up, give them the materials to work with and they were left alone to collaborate with one another. And that was all. These girls created a set of Artificial Intelligence that can sort out things by category. They did it.

What I later realized is, it’s not about teaching, it’s about showing. It's about letting them discover for themselves.

Those are the skills that the future needs from them. Adaptability is something that they want. But when a child is used to being told what to do, how does this child adapt in the future?

They have to start learning how to adapt, they have to start having respect for one another. Many children will say to you; I don’t need help I can do it by myself. No. nobody wants that kind of person in employment. They want people who can sit down, who can bring ideas to the table. At the end of the day, the superior idea would emerge.

So when you talk about preparing the Nigerian children for the future, the future is actually here. What we fear, what we expect is already here. We are living in the 21st century, and so the future is now.

So everything, we need to do it now. The is a desperate need to change the mindset of our children.

Our children spend too much time doing irrelevant things. Private sector pampered kids. The public sector doesn’t have enough exposure, resources are not available.

I got an invitation to attend a symposium, Agbamisin, and I don’t know why I picked myself up and went, but it was one of the best things that happened to me because Agbamisin was a symposium held by a foundation and it was for secondary school children in the public school system. I got there and I thought, ‘well, I’m here’ I’m sure there are some new things I’m supposed to learn here.

And so it turns out that it was the finals of a competition where these children were given the task of finding solutions to problems, within their communities, exactly the same thing Technovation offered to us.

But this time, it wasn’t an App, but the solution was to build a prototype. When these children started presenting, my mind was blown. Their English wasn’t as perfect as the private school child will come and present, but their ideas were brilliant. And I was amazed.

And I realized that talent lies everywhere in Nigeria, and perhaps our biggest mistake was separating the two school systems. And that we have to bring back, because, Private school children will learn from the energy and the drive from the focus of the child who knows that he is driven because he wants to drive himself out of his current state into a better place.

The public school child will equally learn something from the private school child, who is looking at how he has to behave and what society expects from him as an achiever in his future.

Separating them has denied them of that quality of learning that is intrinsic, but needs to take place.

It's not good enough that our children are going out in cars and are having a good time, there are lessons to be learned on the road of life, and in the street of life. If we can’t take them through the streets, we should allow them to have some contact in schools with children from that category and in doing that, they will get wise.

Do you know that Nigeria is one of the very few countries that have a strong private school system?

But the countries that are doing mighty things, they are doing it on the strength of their public school system. Finland doesn’t have a private school system, yet they are number one. Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, China; they don’t have. But the shift has moved from America.

America has a lot of Private schools but they have seen the mistakes now, which is why Chatty schools are merging in America, which is like a way to bridge it. I know that we have to work together. We have to bring our children together for a better Nigeria. We have to create an environment where learning comes first and social status takes the back seat.

Politics / IFO 2020: Meet Akerele Ganiu, IFO People's Choice by DebbyJose: 8:33pm On Jan 08, 2020
Akerel Ganiu is a household name in the western region of the country and abroad. Mention philanthropists and political crusader, and the name Giantm which he is fondly called comes to mind. In his circles, he is simply known as Hon Giant, or Action comrade as his inner circle guys call him.

Successful by all standards, Ganuy makes the job of helping businesses to overcome adversities look like reciting the ABC.

He also has a history of fighting for just and equal rights at the grassroots levels. He is currently running for the post of Chairman of Ifo Local Government in Ogun State and he’s enjoying the backings of those that matter in the Ogun scheme of things.

The elderly mother and fathers call him Omoluwabi Ifo, for his tireless and ceaseless effort towards making life comfortable for Ifo people out of his philanthropic gesture.

Ganiu, the son of the soil, who by God’s grace will assume the post of the Chairman of Ifo Local government by the decision of God and the majority of Ifo people, has penned down his intentions and how he intends to serve his people.

Read below

“Renewed Commitment"

My name is GANIU ADEDIGBA-AKERELE,a native of Ogun state. I was born on the 7th of February,1980 into the family of AKERELE. I attended Ebenezer primary School, Akowonjo - Alimosho,Lagos State for my elementary education, after which i had my secondary school education at Ebenezer grammar school,Abeokuta in Ogun state.

Futher, I Obtained National Diploma (ND) in Electrical/Electronics Engineering from Osun state college of technology, Esa-oke,Osun state. Afterwards, I proceeded to acquire Higher National Diploma (HND)Electrical/Electric Engineering at Moshood Abiola polytechnic, Abeokuta, ogun state. I am a member of several professional bodies of Engineers in Nigeria.

Why Akerele?

Ifo is a local government area in Ogun State, as one of the local government created in 1991 by the then military administration, and it is connected to a nearby Lagos through railway and roads. Having served at various capacities with different organizations, and as a Managing Director of Apex services and engineering works, which I founded and registered in 2010.

The required skills of human management and resources garnered over the years will afford me the skills to re-engineer "Our dear Ifo local government" and tale it to an enviable heights.

My 21st century up to date knowledge on how to 'marry' or connects technology to humans activities and natural resources is an added advantage .I have broad experiences in the modern day governance using technology to achieving goals and programmes.

The Reason -Akerele

I am young, energetic, dynamic with the team of young players in the technological industries , media, education, engineering and business (Entrepreneurs)

These are the set of people we will be bringing onboard if given the chance or elected to serve

The Akerele-Ifo Agenda is not going to be religiously reliant on the"take it every month"from the federal purse but with a mind set of breaking away from the tradition of local government relying on federal government for sustainance but with strict focus on youth populated 2st1/century ideas. We want to do it differently we can do it.

"The Renewed commitment"

In the past, many politicians made promises which some of it, sound so good and enticing. However, there has been no concrete or clear approach or methods to be adopted or deployed in executing such, hence, we have come up with more lofty programs and practical ways of fulfilling them through our renewed commitment .

" Our Renewed Commitment"

Our renewed commitment as a 'philosophy' hinged on making promises to the electorates, and stating ways and how to fulfilling them through their own support or contributions for a developed ifo local government.

Renewed commitment also means, if we ( my administration) fails, it is the people or to share the blame collectively, because what we intend to do is a participatory government where by, the people leads and I follow.

My Plans & 'Hows'

Jobs

Education

Infrastructure

Social package

Security

Health

•Jobs_ No government in the world can provide all the jobs for its citizens but a creative and responsible government should create an enabling environment that would assist and accelerate jobs through a private sector based.

I will bring into my government , tested and certified young professionals and entrepreneurs .what will they do? I will Provide a platform whereby, they would train other youths in the area of their specializations at intervals, while in returns will bring about awareness and jobs creation.

•Education: The importance of education in the life of a nation or its citizens needs not be debated. Education is important and very important at that.

My government is not only promising a better and assured future for our "kids" but with a sound hope in their tomorrow and dreams.

Hence, we will partner with the state government and private investors to revive our elementary education.

Several organisation are investing hugely in technology to enhance learning and this to me is a welcomed development which any serious government should or must be a part to.

We will grow and revive our education through e-learning platforms that is simply the way to go.

My administration would be a friend to various NGOs, individuals, companies and multinationals whose sole focus is to invest in education.

Our reason for this is basically to talk to them to assist us in certain areas as a way of corporate social responsibility.

•Infrastructure : The state government, and the local government have both tried their best possible and still trying to fix our infrastructures but more still need be done.

My administration has drawn up plans to build houses, roads and other facilities by partnering with private investors. Arrangement is ongoing to lure investors into building affordable housing units, hospitals, roads with the slogan " easy life " schemes for the poor . The investors shall be allowed to maintain these infrastructures for number of years with convenient charges that would make it easy for all and sundry to own or rent a house.

Some sections of our roads will be commercialised as insignificant charges be collected , this is the practise in a developed democracy. Hence, it would not be out idea to have such here.

•Security: The federal government controls the police, and the state government also has more control over it than a local government can.

With this, my administration shall collaborates with both the federal and the state government on any measure put in place to ensure safety of life and property of the people.

However, a local vigilant formed and minimally empowered according to the extant laws. Their duties is to act as "information giver" to the authority police, and other security agencies.

• Social package: My administration will ensure base on selected adults get monthly stipend.

• Quarterly Town hall meetings.

• Yearly communities get together.

• Feed back and complaint center.

• Talents Hunt events

My bond.

The above is my bond or to my people and I shall deliver accordingly.
