Family / "No More Excuses: Nigerians Rally For Justice In Chinazam's Case" by DebbyJose: 3:58am On May 27, 2023
This heart-wrenching tale revolves around young Chinazam, a Nigerian boy who faced a life-altering ordeal during what should have been a routine appendicitis surgery at the hands of medical professionals operating under the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) in 2016. What was supposed to be a swift and uncomplicated procedure quickly devolved into a series of medical errors and negligence, leaving Chinazam with devastating complications.

Chinazam's journey began with persistent stomach pain, which was initially dismissed by the clinic as insignificant. However, as his agony persisted, he was eventually referred to a surgeon who diagnosed him with an inflamed appendix. The surgery was hastily scheduled as an emergency, leaving his worried parents, Stella and Emeka Okoli, anxiously awaiting news about their son's condition.

Tragically, complications arose during the surgery, revealing that Chinazam's brain and other organs were suffering from water accumulation. Hours turned into an agonizing wait for the Okolis, who were left in the dark about their son's well-being. Finally, they were informed that Chinazam had experienced a severe drug reaction but had miraculously survived.

Chinazam slipped into a medical coma and remained confined to the clinic's Intensive Care Unit for an extended period. Filled with desperation, the Okolis implored Shell to facilitate his transfer to a specialized trauma center abroad, where he could receive the advanced care his condition demanded. However, Shell callously delayed the process and ultimately sent him to South Africa, far from the optimal destination, such as the United States.

Throughout this ordeal, Shell's actions showcased a shocking lack of concern for Chinazam's welfare. The company failed to offer vital support or essential services during his recovery, leaving the Okolis feeling abandoned. Despite their repeated pleas for his transfer to a facility equipped with advanced cognitive rehabilitation protocols, Shell callously turned a blind eye.

This story unveils a harrowing narrative of negligence, medical mishaps, and a deliberate prioritization of cost-saving measures over a young boy's life. It exposes Shell's blatant disregard for its own proclaimed commitment to safeguarding the health and safety of individuals. Despite the unwavering efforts and determination of the Okoli family, Shell's actions needlessly prolonged Chinazam's suffering and impeded his path to recovery.

Concerned Nigerians and Chinazam's distraught parents now implore Shell to uphold the values they espouse, such as honesty, integrity, and respect. They emphasize that Shell must demonstrate compassion and prioritize Chinazam's well-being over financial considerations. They demand transparency by urging Shell to release the report prepared by Professor Ronke Desalu, which holds the answers to what transpired during the seemingly routine surgery that forever altered the life of a boy who walked in for a minor operation.

The plea from the Okoli family and concerned individuals echoes through the hearts of those who believe in justice, compassion, and the sanctity of every human life. It is a call for Shell to live up to its professed ideals and ensure that Chinazam's life is valued as more than a mere commodity, providing him with the dignified care and support he so desperately needs until he recovers or until his Creator calls him home.

Education / ASUU STRIKE: One Solution, Numerous Socio-economic Effect (part 1) by DebbyJose: 12:20pm On May 21, 2023
ASUU STRIKE: One solution, numerous socio-economic cum political multiplier advantageous effects for the Nigerian state at large.
By Kay Aderibigbe
kayaderibigbe@aol.com
One unique characterization of higher educational system, more like a cultural identity, in Nigeria, since the beginning of the Second Republic, is strike action. Incessant strike action by teachers of our public higher institutions is a resultant effect of irresponsible and primordial mentalities of those at the helms of our political affairs.
Considering the meaning of ASUU, via its ordinary nomenclature might make it symbolizes a trade association that is vested with the task of propagating solely the interests of its professional members. But a delve into the historical appraisal of ASUU’s struggle, travails and eventual wins, would lend more credence to the fact that, the organization has in its DNA, more intrinsic elements of those pro-people bodies like: CDHR, CLO, NADECO and NLC, all put together. Since its formation in 1978, ASUU has stood up against any type of regime in defense of the people, society and education, as an inalienable right of an average person.
This piece could slightly be a long read. Kindly pardon the niceties that pervaded my harangue. I also plead for forgiveness in advance because I could sound offensive, confrontational or quite irritating to some people in some quarters. I chose the path of speaking the truth to power because, my generation, just like the ones ahead of us, is gradually becoming an archetype of the dismal failure expressive of the Nigerian state. I really don’t want to be identified as one of them, hence, my resolve to write again.
The last ASUU strike
The last ASUU strike lasted 252 days before it was eventually called off on Oct 14, 2022. Prior to the Court of Appeal’s ruling which upheld the decision of NICN – National Industrial Court of Nigeria, on the suspension of ASUU strike, there have been series of futile meetings/negotiations between ASUU and the ministry of education; the minister of education, Adamu Adamu; and the minister of labour and employment, Chris Ngige, who later borrowed a cue from Order 3, rule 6 of the TDA – Trade Dispute Act, cap T8. LFN 2004; to bundle ASUU into the Web of Industrial Court. The court has at its disposal, the instrument of Section 18(1) E of the TDA, to subdue every strike action. That is, . . . “employees cannot be on strike when their matter is before the Industrial Court”.
One then begins to wonder how a group of administrative inept who pervaded Buhari’s regime could cunningly dig up legal weapons against an association that has been beaten, defrauded and gang-raped time and time again, on the basis that it (ASUU) was trying to defend ‘education’ – the only value that is left of the carcass of the Nigerian state.
As it stand now, “there is no single agreement, written or verbal, between ASUU and the government before the last strike was called off” . . . (Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, Monday 22 nd of Aug, 2022). Invariably, it was an act of display of good faith and sympathy for the teeming students of public universities that propelled ASUU to have acted honourably.
On Oct 5, 2022, the Federal Government had went ahead to announce the birth of two new academic unions – NAMDA (National Association of Medical and Dental Academics), and CONUA (Congress Of Nigerian University Academics). Edmund Burke, in 1756, said “only those who don’t know history are doomed to repeat it”. This type of shenanigans of infiltrating and dividing ASUU has been done in the past by Babangida and Abacha, yet, it failed woefully.
A historiography of ASUU’s struggle
Apart from the resistance by ASUU on the erosion of the disciplinary powers of the school governing councils, early days of ASUU’s emergence was quite less-tumultuous. For the sake students of politics, history enthusiasts and the new reactionary set of youths that are craving political change in the recent times, I think it is imperative that we throw more light on why ASUU usually embark on strike action in order to drive home their demands.
A better way to accurately capture the beginning of the serial impasse between ASUU and the federal government could be traced to 1981, when ASUU tabled before the Shagari’s government, what they called “the five disturbing issues”: (i) university funding, (ii) proper salary, (iii) autonomy, (iv) academic freedom and (v) the issue of brain drain. Mr. Shehu Shagari, the then president, responded by taking away the accreditation of university courses from seasoned professionals and gave the role to NUC – Nigerian University Commission. Another veritable issue was the ASUU’s national conference of 1984, and subsequently, its paper titled “How to Save Nigeria”. The same Muhammadu Buhari was the Head of federal military government in 1984, when an unreasonable and economically retarding policy was in place, then, called “austerity measure”.
A gradual disengagement of the state from certain essential services was the dynamo that triggered ASUU to write out solutions to the government-invented problems which later caused chaos in all aspects of national lives for Nigerians. Buhari was dethroned by Babangida, through a palace coup on Aug 27, 1985, and the new regime inherited an economic upheaval which made the government to opt for privatization policy.
ASUU kicked against privatization and instead, propagated solutions on economic planning, development, industrialization, agriculture, debt servicing, labour laws and taxation. Against ASUU’s erudition and the hue and cries of the general public concerning the IMF loan, Babangida, went ahead to impose SAP – Structural Adjustment Programme, on Nigerians in 1986. The policy brought an unprecedented hardship on the general populace. The negative economic effects became obviously telling on the government as well, because, the Elongated University Salary Scale (EUSS) of ASUU could not be implemented. As a result of SAP, intellectuals started jetting out of the country (brain drain). Many people lost their jobs. Naira was agonizingly devalued. Inflation rose astronomically and life became unbearable for the majority, most especially, salary earners.
ASUU went on strike in protest against the policy and the military government banned ASUU as an association on Aug 7, 1988. The then education minister Prof. Jubril Aminu, following the instructions of his pay masters, ordered the arrest of Dr. Attahiru Jega, and Dr. Festus Iyayi, both of them being the then present and past presidents of ASUU. In fact, their international passports were taken from them while they remained in detention. The strike broke down due to military highhandedness, but ASUU members continued to meet under the aegis of ULA (University Lecturers Association), in order to speak out on the dangers of Nigeria’s downward economic trend.
By 1990 ASUU got back its status as a legally recognized association. The lecturers requested audience with the government. The first negotiation under Senas Ukpanah, broke down on the 30th of May 1991. The second negotiation was unilaterally dictated by the military government. The same government failed to honour its own words. ASUU replied with a strike action. Consequently ASUU was banned for the second time by IBB on Aug 23, 1992.
Every concerned Nigerian was on ASUU’s side once again because the arbitrary method of the military schemers was quite glaring. Public shame prompted IBB to pocket his pride and eventually sought negotiation with the same ASUU that had been outlawed. That very point/meeting was the genesis of ASUU’s monumental request, from the government, of a time-tabled, revitalization/developmental fund. In those days, though, lecturers suffered a great deal, but education as a project won the battle. The power of collective bargaining spoke volume. Most importantly, the entire civilian populace became socially cognizant of the fact that, democracy is still achievable despite the indomitable posture of the military institution then.
The Sept 3rd, 1992 Agreement was not honoured by the Abacha’s government when he came to power, partly because ASUU identified with majority of Nigerians who asked for the de-annulment of June 12, 1993 presidential election. Even, when ASUU’s request was streamlined to merely professional issues, Abacha still refused to reckon. Salaries were stopped. Vice Chancellors were financially induced to set up classes just in order to paint a wrong picture of ASUU. The six months strike was unilaterally ended by ASUU in response to the yearnings of the public.
Abacha’s education minister, Dr. Ibrahim .T. Linan, stirred up another negotiation table under Prof. Umaru Shahu, taking into account, the ‘peculiarities for setting up negotiation’, propounded through Sam Cookey’s commission. The federal military government handcuffed ASUU with the introduction of fees in our public schools, but ASUU rejected the idea. What later followed was a grand victimization of ASUU’s national executive committee members all over the country.
Almost all the ASUU leaders were removed from their positions by the NUC without trial. They all remained out of the system until, chief Olaiya Oni, the education minister under Gen. Abdulsalam, facilitated their reinstatement; along with those that were dismissed in 1996, through the application of Decree 17, of 1984. The minister was able to do this by obeying an Enugu High Court order that had been pronounced on the matter years before.
Gen. Abdulsalam did not tinker with ASUU nor fiddle with any of the pre-existing agreements. It would have been quite desultory if he did. This is because of the planned transient nature of his regime.
Obasanjo came to power in May 1999, as a civilian government with high hope on peoples’ minds that our education would be saved from the miasma of political despair. Chief P.C Asiodu enthusiastically chaired a committee that was set up by the government in order to deliberate on those issues listed in ASUU’s previous agreement. Dr. Assisi Asobie, ASUU’s president, laid bare everything at the meeting on Oct 26th, 1999. The government team went incommunicado, and did not return to the negotiation table until Aug 28th, 2000, when Baba Ayo Adebanjo, was commissioned by the government to finalize with ASUU on those issues that ought to have been settled.

Recently some self-conceited partisans went to town, speechifying and preachifying the unwary that Senator Orji Uzor Kalu had been endorsed by the South east caucus of Serving and new Senators elect as their preferred candidate.

In order to give their nebulous press release a veneer of credulity, they concocted a communique listing the names of Senators elect from the South East.

Confirmed sources say some of the senators were not even in the country when the meeting held. A cursory look at the photograph will show who was at the meeting and who was not.

The said document which amongst other issues referenced Senator Godswill Akpabio’s selection by his party APC, as preferred senate president of the 10th senate as being tantamount to the continuous exclusion of the south east from the commanding heights in the polity.

The bogus communiqué allegedly claimed that the south east senators excoriated Ashiwaju Bola Ahned Tinubu for wrong footing the principle of equity, unity and fairness to the tripod of Nigeria Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba and the geopolitical zones.

Truth of the matter, is the informed critical mass in the south east, perceive Orji Uzor Kalu’s bid as not a derivative of his capacity, competence or loyalty to the substratum, values of Ndigbo. Rather he is an embodiment of the self centred political philosophy of prebendal sleight of hand that is alien to us. Most community and opinion leaders in the South East are in congruence with the view that OUK antecedents will not fly to meet our aspirations.

During the Presidential electioneering campaigns, he treated and subverted our group aspirations in preference for his strange bedfellows.

An Abuja based public policy analyst recently said that he is very happy with the APC arrangement that locked out all the APC senators like Orji Uzor Kalu and Governor Umahi who had hoped to clinch the senate presidency by throwing Ndigbo under the bus.

As far as the South easterners are concerned “we don’t want distraction. We are building bridges.”

This comment is believed to be an aftermath of the 2023 presidential election during which some notable politicians from the zone said Peter Obi of the Labour Party, LP, was wasting his time and that the South-East was not ripe for the position. Politics apart, many persons believe the south east since 1999 has had more than their fair share of five Senate presidents that did not rake in dividends of democracy to the region. They were all yanked out of office with ignominy. This time we earnestly seek to restore the presidential mandate and not the third fiddler position of a senate president. Worse still a person notorious as a wily and shifty personality with over vaulting ambitions, self-serving bordering on exploitative, dominant, controlling bordering on aggressive and impulsive, will not be trusted by his constituents. And that is why all the key stakeholders in his Abia North senatorial district have refused to endorse him.

Literature / Honey & Maggots: Why It's A Must For Everyone To Read This Book by DebbyJose: 9:20pm On May 09, 2023
There's one newly written book that's getting almost everybody's attention now in Nigeria! The book titled 'HONEY AND MAGGOTS' has been described as a book packed with comprehensive information about life, culture, and human existence, in general.
This book was written by a seasoned female lawyer, Adejoke Adeosun, aka Sisi Caro.
Before we take you far, let's give you the synopsis of the book.
"The 'Sorosoke" revolution wasn't really a first occurrence in Nigeria and its African counterparts. In the 19th century, there were those bold ones who had dared to question the order of things, demanding what was rightfully theirs; but these were suppressed, their rights subjugated. Some were tortured, set up, and some never lived to tell another tale of their struggles for freedom.
In the 20th century, a resurgence of the "Sorosoke" syndrome surfaced, albeit in a category of persons who had previously lost interest in politics and governance, and who the politicians didn't imagine could rise. The Youths!!! These arose with a surge of energy so intense and fierce defying the order of tribal differences and religious beliefs, unified by one single cause: a demand for good governance, the respect for human rights, and the desire to speak and be heard. Amid this revolution, Nigeria was battling against a worldwide pandemic that had cast a shadow of despair, fear, and uncertainty on the world. The African countries were expected to be the worst hit given the fact that they were mostly characterized as "developing countries" lacking adequate structures that were the norm in developed countries. Nigeria wasn't left out of this prediction, and the fear of how the pandemic would later play out was palpable in the zealous efforts of caution displayed in most quarters.
A revolution and a pandemic was not an easy combination and the stories of Dimeye, Patrick, Bolu, Abdul, Kunmi, Julia, Aisha, Wade, and Mama Nana, unfold in the midst of it all relating to salient issues that are part of us, cultural inclinations, the pressure on couples yet to have their offsprings, male child molestation and rape (an issue that is rarely discussed), the frustrations of a failing government, the military era of terror, the unifying euphoria of football, romance, fear, uncertainty, loss, grief and tragedies. The expressions of nature in the characters' past experiences describe the serenity and beauty of the old times, how things were seemingly good before the manifestation and expressions of civilization and technology.
The characters in this plot have different stories and different experiences that are relatable and practical yet they are connected by a cord - the price and sacrifices that come to play with the ineptitude and failure of government and the consequent results from the continuous desire for the political class to rule, subjugate, oppress and thwart the very essence of democracy.
The sorosoke revolution was a good thing, and it is still a good thing, but was it worth the sacrifice and cost that came with it? Find out in this book, Honey and Maggots", and see for yourself how in one breath, something which seemed good could, in reality, be riddled with pain and evil".
Presently, the book is on Amazon ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BHTG74VN ) or ( https://rhbooks.com.ng/product/honey-and-maggots/ ). The book will be launched officially 20th of May, 2023.

Politics / As Gbadebo Rhodes-vivour Unsettles Sanwoolu, Others by DebbyJose: 8:58pm On Mar 10, 2023
It is time to unseat Governor Sanwo-Olu

The gubernatorial election of March 11, 2023, in Lagos State, pits the leading opposition party, Labor Party, against the ruling All Progressive Congress {APC}. The gubernatorial candidate for the Labor Party is Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivor. He is a thirty-nine-year-old American-educated architect. Unlike the APC candidate, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, he is a native of Lagos State. He is the great grandson of a prominent indigenous Lagosian, S.B. Rhodes, a founding father of the Nigerian executive and judiciary. Youthful, educated, honorable and with a sense of mission and belief in his ability to change the course of history, he personifies the goals and objectives of the Labor Party. The goal of the Labor Party is to dislodge the corrupt, vicious oligarchy that have misruled Nigeria for so long, and made life unbearable for most Nigerians.

Rhodes-Vivour was a visible presence at the #EndSARS protest. The Labor Party movement is driven by the same impulse that engendered the #EndSARS protest. In that pertinent and laudable protest against the status quo, the youths - the flower and promise of Nigeria – spoke for the generality of Nigerians. Totally oblivious of tribal, religious, political and socio-economic divides, they stood united in their demanded for social justice, accountability and transparency in governance, and an end to every form of official brutality.

Rhodes-Vivour is spearheading the Labor Party democratic revolution in Lagos State that will dethrone the Lagos rendition of moribund and evil oligarchy, and break their amoral and cruel grip on the state. Unlike there anarchistic and bloody revolutions of zealots and fanatics, the Labor Party revolution is anchored on democratic tenets and within the confines of the law. It will inundate, overwhelm and dethrone the status quo in Lagos State. It will usher in a new, livable and functional Lagos, marked by the rule of law, equitable distribution of the state resources, accountability, transparency, respect for individual rights, end to police, and all forms of official, brutality, etc;

The shooting, killing and maiming of unarmed, peaceful, flag-waving, national anthem-singing, Nigerian youths on “Black Tuesday” at the Lekki Toll Gate Plaza left an indelible moral blemish on the governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu. That blood-spattered onslaught on innocent Nigerian youths for exercising their constitutionally guaranteed right to peaceful protests was morally reprehensible, inexcusable and unpardonable. It was a crime against humanity. It is payback time for Sanwo-Olu for that slaughter of the youths at the Lekki Toll Gate. It is time to yank his blood-dripping hands off the helm of affairs of Lagos State. Therefore, it behooves Lagosians to vote him out on March 11, 2023.

The electoral contest on that day is between light {LP/Rhodes-Vivor} and darkness {APC/ Sanwo-Olu}. Lagosians must inevitably embrace the light and cast out darkness. And thus, break the stranglehold of the APC cabal on the state and bring an end to the corruption, cronyism, theft of public funds, extortion, glamorization of thuggery and political violence, and all the other excesses of the Sanwo-Olu administration.

Armed with our PVC, every inhabitant of Lagos State must join in this laudable crusade to unseat Sanwo-Olu. It is our moral, spiritual, civic, political and democratic obligation to troop out, en-masse, on March 11, 2023, and vote in Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivor of the Labor Party, as the new governor of Lagos State.

Politics / Chaos, Apprehension Rocks APC As Lagos Stood Up For LP Guber Candidate, Gbadebo by DebbyJose: 12:27pm On Mar 09, 2023
The 8th Of March 2023 is globally celebrated as International Women's Day & It also happens to be the 40th Birthday Celebrations Of Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour GRVThe Labour Party LP Governorship Aspirant.

Instead of celebration he spent part of the day campaigning and went to visit and empathise with the traders who were victims of the Ajegunle Spare Parts Market whose shops were burnt down as a result of the electoral tensions leading to the March 11 Gubernatorial Polls. After Inspecting & Talking To The Traders He donated N15m as part of his support towards cushioning the traders' pains and promised to rebuild the entire market when elected governor.

GRV as he is popularly known is a people's man. He has run an impressive campaign so far with a huge following that has enjoyed an even bigger boost with the recent victory of his principal Peter Obi of The Labour Party in Lagos against the ruling party APC. Many of these on and offline supporters include members of the Peter Obi or Obidient Movement, which are youths and hopefuls for a NEW NIGERIA.

A true Lagosian and scion of the reputable and popular Rhodes family of Lagos Island with a history dating up to 400 years. GRV describes himself as a Lagos boy, an Omo Eko proper and speaks of his Lagos Rhodes Vivour family pedigree and their stellar contributions to the development of Lagos –these include the foremost legal luminaries and judges from the 1800s such as Steven Bankole Rhodes, to his uncles, Yinka Rhodes The Bamofin Of Lagos, the Supreme Court Judge, Bode Rhodes Vivour, and his father, Barrister Olawale Rhodes Vivour who married his mum a Mrs Stella Rhodes-Vivour, and the famous late musician Elder Steve Rhodes.

The land upon which City Hall Lagos is built belongs to his family & his great parents estate owned the largest plantation in Lagos.

The Nottingham UK & MIT trained architect in his Manifesto laid out a plan to get Lagos working with his focus is on how to uplift Lagos, his beloved state of birth and lineage by resolving the perennial Lagos traffic problem through building four new rail lines in four years, whose multiplier effects would create jobs throughout our economy, resolving the massive unemployment and underemployment that is the ‘Area Boy' culture, provide housing and social services and more.

The 40-year-old celebrant is happily married to Dr Ify Rhodes-Vivour an Oxford & Harvard PhD trained molecular biologist and they have 2 boys. Gbadebo Rhodes Vivour, is an embodiment of the successful unity of Yoruba, Igbo and other Nigerians that propelled the Obidient political liberation movement, and on his birthday urged all to vote for the freedom, progress and harmony the city deserves, and for a new Lagos that would set the pace for a new Nigeria with his Eko e dide - Lagos Stand Up Slogan..”

Education / Federal Government College Port Harcourt. 50 Golden Years For Golden Memories by DebbyJose: 3:18pm On Jan 21, 2023
By Uri Ngozichukwuka

When my big sister got married in 1980 and left the family home in Lagos for port Harcourt I missed her so much and she likewise. I didn't know she would come for me the next year after I had completed secondary school in Lagos. Being the last of 9 children She and her husband took over my education.

They had friends Mr and Mrs Enwo a young couple who were both teachers at the federal government college port Harcourt in the early 80s. I took the entrance and I got admitted to doing the A levels at this beautiful school from 1981-1983. Till date, it still holds the fondest memories for me. A lot fonder than university days.

My first time being in the boarding house. I was so excited. I had been a day student in my previous school and was too young to even understand secondary school. I had gone in too young. With the benefit of hindsight, my parents were just interested in getting it over and done with. I had done common entrance to Queen's college at 8. Too young to get in. Who would even take me? So by 9, any school would do.

Back to the golden memories of FGC PH... From age 15-17 every day was magical and full of drama. Okay, I entered boarding house as a senior in the lower six class so I had escaped some tail-cutting experience of my junior years. However, there were some upper six students who wanted to rub it in all the time that they were our " seniors" My friends and I ired and erred not a few.

Federal government colleges were one of the government's earliest and to date most successful attempts at uniting the country after the Nigerian civil war. The reason for the creation of the Federal Government Colleges, among others, was to guarantee national integration and national building among Nigerian children if given the opportunity at a very tender age to live, learn and play together in the ideal education environment. Most were established in the 1970s and 1980s. FGC PH was one such established in 1973.

So we all came from all over the country as captured in the first lines of the school anthem a classic and the best of all school anthems.
"Fegocol Portharcpurt our noble institution.
From all over our country we come with the spirit"

It continues with the most profound chorus " to national awareness we pledge our honour. To academic excellence we pledge our honour. To parental devotion we pledge our honour . To sports development we pledge our honour. So help us, God".

The school anthem captures our promise to our nation. Promise to hand over an unbeaten tradition of excellence.

50 years after the alumni of this great institution have ticked all the boxes of the ideal alumni. Relentlessly engaging, coordinating and executing activities that have impacted the school academically and structurally. Scholarships. Constructions of key facilities in the school. These excellent ladies and gentlemen have spared nothing in giving back. Spreading across the whole world these young children grew strong and have held sway in their various fields of endeavour. Distinguished persons in society still hold firmly in very endearing ways through their various chapters.

For me, this is 40 years after FGC PH and for my small class of barely 40 young children, we've had doctors lawyers professors and authors and so many professionals. It's always a delight to meet up whenever we can.

There's so much to write about the FGC PH experience. The Monday morning assemblies. The Fridays assemblies for detention. . ( Detention is another word for punishment or discipline of erring students) there were the regulars on that list. They somehow had nicknames too. How hilarious. The tuckshop that had the solutions to all our little cravings. The school exit tickets. Me a born Anglican was a Catholic in school. Reason being the Catholic church was in town. We get to go out every Sunday in the school bus. The Anglican service was in school. Who came up with that idea?

The bonding of young minds through shared experiences to lifelong friendships.

The fence jumping. The pranks played on house masters and house mistresses. There were the chief pranksters. The stress given to our dear principal the late M. C. Ebo. A very dear man and a great child Educator. He had a special place for each child and we loved him back. I don't remember the years he was principal of the school but I was there as a student when he presided over the school. I also remember upon his demise decades later the students showed up in his hometown to give their dear old principal a befitting burial.

The love junctions. The frenzy of the valentine's period. The famous declaration of the massacre in the school dining hall. ( Please note massacre had nothing to with real blood but a declaration of food grabbing and gulping made by the prefects for the few students who made it early to the dining hall). I hope I got that definition of FGC PH massacre. Just so much to remember. When you have a robust mix of brilliant teenagers from different parts of the country with raging hormones and curious minds you expect nothing less but a school bursting at the seams with excitement and enchantment.

The weekly Saturday inspection of the hostels. The frenzy to get all the houses clean and win. " Cleanest for the week" The school houses. Honour . Glory. Loyalty. Freedom Charity Peace and Faith.
I was health prefect for girls in my set but do remember I had a very able assistant and we still bond on that level till this day.

They were the teachers of the best quality when the education standard had teachers with PhD teaching young children in a Nigerian secondary school. Our Indian vice principal then and so many well-educated teachers who were dedicated to their profession. We got excellence and excellence has trailed our paths.

Incidentally, my sister's children who were not even born when I went to FGC PH all grew up and attended the school. My elder brother's sons too. The Nze Dikes and the Offias . They also all have fond memories. I guess it's always a mini-reunion at home.

As the school turns golden the memories are no doubt golden for not just me but for a whole generation of young people who passed through the school decades ago and the ones making memories today.
Long live Nigeria
Long live Federal Government College Port Harcourt.

Religion / 2023: New President ‘ll End Yoruba, Biafra Nations Agitation – Prophet Ephrata by DebbyJose: 11:08am On Jan 17, 2023
UK-based Nigerian pastor, Prophet David Babatunde Ephrata, the leader and founder of Bible Based Church, United Kingdom, has again issued a strong warning barely ahead of the coming elections in Nigeria. He stated that the candidate who emerged at the end of the elections will totally erase any cause involving the Yoruba nation or the Republic of Biafra.

Recall last Christmas, the fearless man of God issued a stern warning directly to those who are into farming of any form as he alerted them of the many dangerous challenges ahead in 2023.

While farmers are already confirming this in their recent distress call for protection against intruders, the prophet has again revealed another shocking revelation as received during the online service held on Sunday, January 15, 2023.

He stated during the service:

“I have a severe message to Nigerians about who will win the elections in 2023. Please pray very well in the year 2023 for the election to run free and fair without bloodshed.

“God revealed to me that the candidate that will win the election, will erase anything that has to do with self-determination or true federalism. He will also perish the idea of the Yoruba agenda or Igbo agenda.

“This is not the time to fight for Yoruba nation or Biafra or Arewa nation. “This is the time to pray.

“The image I saw in the revelation was more of a young white man, who took a duster and erase Biafra and Odua nation from a whiteboard.

“That is the clear vision that God showed me. Yoruba, Igbo, and Arewa nations will not be heard anymore. This coming government will no hesitate to eliminate any person or group of persons that advocate for self-determination.”

He implored Nigerians to keep faith and move closer to God to avoid an imminent crisis that may cause civil unrest in the country.

Prophet David Babatunde Ephrata’s missionary journey began when he was born many decades ago, he was born in Lagos but was moved to the southwestern part of Nigeria before he clocked one year old. His strong connection to depth scriptural and spiritual knowledge began to grow as he advanced into a teenager and as he acquires more academic knowledge.

Since 2006, when the prophetic message becomes clear, he has remained a consistent personality and respectable prophet who delivers divinely inspired prophecies and messages to the people.

His credentials as a prophetic man of God are staggering. His prophecies have been nothing short of sensational and on point. Where other men of God are waiting for a situation to gather momentum and take shape before they permutate and then release prophecies, Prophet Ephrata reveals those things that will happen long before they happen. Sometimes, he will foretell things a year or even more before they occur.

A case in point is the failure of Buhari’s administration. A few months into his first term in office, Prophet Babatunde warned Nigerians not to be over-excited at the emergence of Muhammadu Buhari as president, that he is not the Messiah Nigerians were waiting for. Not only that, he said Nigerians should prepare for extreme hardship because the Buhari administration will bring upon us the worst economy ever witnessed in Nigeria. And that is exactly what is happening right now.

Music/Radio / PMAN Acquires Corporate Office In Lekki After 40yrs of Existence by DebbyJose: 9:29pm On Nov 29, 2022
These are good times for the music industry in Nigeria as the Performing Musicians Employers Association of Nigeria (PMAN) has finally broken the over 40 years jinx of existing without its own property.

The PMAN executives led by the president, Mr. Pretty Okafor, have acquired a multi-million-naira Edifice
in Lekki, Lagos to be used as corporate office. This is part of the unions strategy for the ongoing biometric card registration drive being implemented in conjunction with Zenith Bank.

The PMAN president maintained that the decision to acquire a property in highbrow Lekki is borne out of good business sense. According to him, it is to reposition and rebrand the union as well as bridge the gap between PMAN and the new generation artistes.
We consider it necessary to have a business office that is accessible to the artistes community and corporate sector in Nigeria. We want to ensure that musicians are receiving proper remunerations for their creative works both home and abroad. Through the acquisition of this property, we are sending an important message to Nigerian musicians and the corporate sector that PMAN, the Nigerian music industry powerhouse, is back in business, he said.
Okafor explained further that the National Working Committee (NWC) of PMAN deliberately chose Lekki for the new corporate office because it’s the new epicenter of the Nigerian entertainment industry.
“You know, our former rented office was located in Ikeja but we decided to acquire our own property in Lekki. Its a deliberately decision we made because Lekki is the new hub for the Nigerian music industry. It is the hotbed for the new wave Afrobeats culture. Lekki is where the Gen Zers of Nigerian entertainment reside, he noted.
Describing the newly acquired corporate office as a fully detached 5-bedroom duplex, the PMAN boss revealed that it is equipped with different ultra-modern facilities including digital music library, Radio station, conference rooms, and VIP lounge among others.
The new PMAN headquarters will have different ultra-modern components including the presidents office, digital music library, conference rooms, VIP lounge, membership registration booth provided by Zenith Bank, and other necessary offices, Okafor disclosed.
Meanwhile, PMAN has vowed to enhance its presence in all the six geo-political regions of Nigeria, as the association would soon embark on data capturing of its over six million potential members across the country.
A date for the formal opening of the new PMAN headquarters will be announced via the associations official website.

Culture / EDWIIN Dissociates Self From Political Party’s Umbrella Proc by DebbyJose: 9:34am On Nov 19, 2022
Inclusion advocate, Uri Ngozichukwuka, Dissociates Self, EDWIIN From Political Party’s Umbrella Procession

National convener of the Empathy-Driven Women Initiative International (EDWIIN), Uri Ngozichukwuka has dissociated herself and her brand from the Umbrella procession held by a political following the road walk the party had on Thursday, November 17, 2022 to canvass support for the presidential candidate of the party.
Recall that EDWIIN had initiated the Umbrella walk to advocate for the rights and acceptance of PWDs with peculiar attention to persons living with Albinism, a cause that got little to no recognition of politicians but kind-hearted Nigerians
In a statement issued by EDWIIN on Friday, 18 November 2022, the convener stated that the use umbrella on that rally was not only insensitive, but also a deliberate mockery of vulnerable fraction of Nigerian citizen whose welfare are of little or no concern to the party or its members.
“Here is a party that had existed for over two decades and have not thought of the idea of a procession in over 20 years.
“EDWIIN, in partnership with well-meaning Nigerians and kind hearted stakeholders came together in June to initiate a walk, in solidarity with People with Albinism and the party did not identify with the project in anyway.
“It was United Nations Albinism Awareness Day on the 13th of June, 2022, and project was executed in partnership with Lagos state office of disabilities LASODA, Lagos Albinism Awareness society and Lagos Accueil an organisation made of French women living in Nigeria, as scores of participants storm out to execute the first umbrella procession.
“It will be recalled that EDWIIN donated 200 umbrellas and 14 SPF 50 sunscreens to persons living with Albinism. The party was nowhere in the picture”
The procession was to bring awareness to the plight of persons living with Albinism
“Our use of umbrella during this period was to pass a message of covering, of inclusion and of recognition that a few cross sections of our citizens have been born with peculiar imperfections that should be considered and acknowledged in the blueprint of our nation’s policy.
It is Insensitive and morally wrong. The said party are viewed as inclusion insensitive and most governors under the party are yet to sign the disabilities bill to law.
The ruling party, in all his imperfections and shortcomings, signed the disability bill since 2019, and 3 years down the line; even the labour party are inclusion sensitive.
“It is however shocking to find the same anti-PWD group, stealing the idea of the same group they have so undermined and relegated to the background, seizing the opportunity to stage a vain rally with a stolen idea and matched it to its blurry agenda.
“This is an assault and an affront to the collective integrity of the PWDs and their conveners, and we wholesomely dissociate our brand from the rally.
“We consider the unfortunate move by this party as disgraceful and most embarrassing, as we expect more from a 24-year-old political party who should be the symbol of integrity in Nigeria”.
“As EDWIIN, we do not support, endorse or campaign for any political candidate and implore the general public to disregard any gesture from any of the parties that suggest otherwise.
“However, we will continue to monitor closely, the political environment and advocate for political capital of persons living with disabilities”, she stated.

Family / Man Called Out For Serial Cases Of Domestic Violence by DebbyJose: 5:38pm On Nov 14, 2022
Mr. Fred N Inem .... your days of deceiving the public about who you really are over.

The pain of a mother losing all her 4 children to an audacious psychopath and physically abusive bully masquerading as a 'responsible husband' for the public is a pain that I can relate to, and hence will never stay silent over.

On the 26th of September, 2022 by exactly 11:15 AM, I was scrolling through my Facebook news feed on my previously disabled Facebook account when I saw the video of the woman you married in 2015.

Swollen eyes, bloodied eye whites, dishevelled hair; physiognomy almost transformed to that of a Chinese who narrowly survived bee stings.

Chinyere Christine , the lady whose family handed to you 7 years ago in perfect condition and sound mind.

I paused on the post.

The lady you married was crying plaintively for her children to be returned to her.

All 4 of them.

All under the age of 6 years.

Kids she had been denied access to by you whom she has made several reports on how you spend more time punching her face, flogging her and dousing her in hot water in your nightmarish marriage; than you do being affectionate or protecting her.

I was distraught and had to send her a DM asking for more details.

My message wasn't seen by her until 3 days later.

On the 29th of September, 2022.

She responded weakly-- with the characteristic indifference and resignation that comes from crying for help for so long and not being helped.

I dropped my phone number and she called me minutes later and narrated her story.

A truly sordid and heartbreaking tragedy of how a beautiful, promising 23 year old girl accepted the hand of an abusive, narcissistic 33 year old man in marriage in 2015, willingly took in for him even while in University, and eventually had to drop out of school to commit herself to her husband and birth him 4 healthy children.

And what does she get in return?

A manipulative, philandering woman beater who not only beats and dehumanizes her at the slightest provocation, but has committed her to a hospital bed one time too many.

Mr Fred.... you are aware that presently this woman you married suffers occasional seizures and numbness to a side of her face as a result of repeated blows from you and blunt force trauma against her skull.

To add pepper to injury, after the poor woman ran for dear life, you have restricted her access to her 4 children and have brought in another mistress whom you are conditioning your young, innocent children to believe is their mother.

Dear Mr Fred Nathangad Inem......

You were shamelessly spamming my WhatsApp with images of your new mistress playing 'mother' over kids whose biological mother is very much alive, right?

Calling my bluff that we should take the pictures to court, yeah?

The woman that risked her life 4 good times to make you a father has now become all those unprintable names you tagged her in my inbox, yeah?

On your Facebook you are a God fearing and responsible father whose principal achievement in life is taking Polaris bank to court.

But at home, you are a satanic, soulless bloodhound that crawls through the ceiling into his wife's room when she is pregnant to beat her because he feels he has all the police connections and leverage of superior male power to subdue her from seeking justice.

Are you aware that there have been reports from the mother of those kids that yourself or your mistress have already begun bleaching their skins?

I don't get it.

You eliminate a mother from the life of her kids and don't even allow her wish them a happy birthday when they clock an extra year, and then turn around to begin bleaching their skins as you visibly have been bleaching yours?

Your last child is 2 years and his young fragile skin is already absorbing skin lightening products.

I told you already, this will not be business as usual.

You aren't just fighting that timid, naive Abia state lady you have been slapping around as you please all these years.

In Africa, Nigeria and Lagos state, it is an abomination to replace a mother in the lives of her children while this mother is still alive.

The forces that will be working against you are far more than anything your mind will ever conceive.

I am a person that believes in justice and the supremacy of the law.

Physical assault and denying a mother her rightful place in the life of her children is a grave and punishable offence because you are jeopardizing the fundamental human rights of another human.

Chinyere's survival story will be published on all major blogs in this country and I will be posting them in series because the abuse she has survived spans years!

You said you sue blogs for a living.

Start assembling your legal machinery!

And keep laughing and spamming me on WhatsApp.

I love being underestimated.

I need you to underestimate me!

Special thanks for your contributions:

Pretty Okafor
