All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate General Muhammadu Buhari has assured the Armed Forces that their “neglect” will end if he is elected as president. In a goodwill message to members of the Armed Forces to mark the Armed Forces Remembrance Day, Gen. Buhari urged the military to remain apolitical and be focused on the ethos of discipline, which is the hallmark of their profession. He said he was not unaware of the neglect they had suffered over the years and assured that everything possible will be done within available resources to train and equip them to a level comparable with their counterparts in other parts of the world. He said: “I urge you all in the Armed Forces to remain apolitical and focus on the ethos of discipline, which is the hallmark of your profession. I wish to assure you of my un- alloyed commitment to returning the Armed Forces to its place of pride among the comity of nations. “ I am aware of the neglect on the military over the years and assure you that everything will be done within available resources to train and equip the military to the level comparable with the international standard in the shortest possible time. “ The Nigerian military had accomplished a lot of feats in building and ensuring global security and peace in conjunction with the armed forces of other great nations of the world as was experienced in the Congo, Sierra-Leone, Liberia, Lebanon and other areas. Therefore, I call on all Nigerians to join us in the APC in our quest to making Nigeria a better place for all.” Gen. Buhari consoled families of members of the Armed Forces who died in various operations to keep Nigeria secured since the Armed Forces were established, including the battle against insurgents in the Northeastern part of Nigeria. He said “an APC government will provide the equipment and personnel to prosecute the battle “effectively and efficiently as soon as we are voted into power in the forthcoming elections”. “ The APC, as a party, also recognises the suffering of the retirees whose pension arrears and gratuity have remained a serious problem. This will be corrected by the APC government.” The Buhari military regime spent more on military hardware as part of total defence budget than the Musa Yar’Adua/Goodluck Jonathan administrations, a comparative study has revealed. Published in the Journal of African Macroeconomic Review (Volume 2, No. 1), the study, titled: Comparative Regime Analysis of the Trend and Structure of Military Expenditure in Nigeria, 1980-2010, the study revealed that the Buhari/Idiagbon regime spent 38.68 of total allocation to the military on capital items, such as hardware, between January 1984 and August 1985. On the contrary, the Yar’Adua/ Jonathan administration spent 34.67 percent of military budget between May 2007 and May 2010. The Buhari Campaign Organisation (BCO) said the report exposes the falsehood in the statement credited to President Jonathan during his campaign in Lagos that the Buhari administration did not equip the military. The report says: “Buhari/ Idiagbon in 1983 also allocated 38.68 percent and 61.32 percent for capital milex (military expenditure) and recurrent respectively. They spent approximately 16 months. The Ibrahim Babangida regime (1985-1993) spent 19.58 percent on capital milex and 80.42 on recurrent milex. “ Abacha/Shonekan/Abdulsalam (1993-1999) regime expended 24.10 percent on capital milex and 75.9 percent on recurrent milex. The civilian administration of Olusegun Obasanjo (1999-2007) for a period of eight years, spent 17.44 percent of her total milex on capital milex and 82.56 percent on recurrent milex. “Yar’Adua/Jonathan (2008-2010) had so far spent 34.67 percent on capital milex and 65.33 percent on recurrent.” The BCO, in a statement by its Director, Strategic Communications, Mr Dele Alake, also referred to other studies which show that under Jonathan, the capital budget for military hardware has been decreasing while recurrent has been increasing. It recalled that while analysing the 2012 defence spending as proposed by the Jonathan administration, APC chieftain and now governorship candidate for Kaduna State, Mallam Nassir El-Rufai, observed that most of the capital spending went towards buildings, some ammunition and vehicle spares. El-Rufai was quoted as saying: “This year (2012), we are not buying any equipment for the armoured, artillery and other mechanisation needs of the Army – at least not anywhere in the budget. The Navy and Air Force are slightly better. “ The Navy is buying two (yes only two) offshore patrol vessels and six coastal patrol boats and some spares. The Air Force intends to acquire 12 Augusta 109 helicopters, some uniforms, the reactivation of C-130, G222, Alpha Jets and maintenance, and some buildings. No new fighter jets this year!” The statement said the situation was worse in the recently signed 2014 budget which allocates 90 percent of military expenditure to salaries and other recurrent needs while a meagre 10 percent goes to military hardware. “ Nigerian academics based in the US put total 2014 defence budget at $5.86billion dollars out of which total capital budget is 589.2million dollars ( approximately 10 percent at 160 Naira to Dollar). “ The allocation to various arms is as follows: Army, $4.36m; Nigerian Security Adviser, $5.23m to purchase security equipment; State Security Service, $2.19m to buy firearms and ammunition and the Nigeria Airforce, $1.79 million to buy M1-34/35 helicopters and another $11.6million to buy six M1-35m helicopters. “From the above analysis, it has become clear that the Boko Haram insurrection has become business for the Jonathan administration as its hirelings and profiteers have turned a national tragedy to a commercial venture. “The Boko Haram insurrection has become an opportunity, not to suppress those waging war against our fatherland but to starve the military of adequate weaponry while spending critical resources on recurrent needs,” the statement said. The Buhari Campaign Organisation said this explains why President Jonathan is busy looking for scapegoats and excuses instead of doing the duty the Constitution demands of him, which is to protect Nigeria’s territorial integrity. “As President, Muhammadu Buhari will demonstrate his patriotism and technical skill by saving Nigeria from the threat of internal insurrection. Indeed, his emergence as President on February 14, 2015 by the grace of God will send the right signal to those waging war against Nigeria that a true and competent Commander -in-Chief of the Armed Forces has arrived. “It will boost the morale of our soldiers, that at last, a general who understands their challenges and shares their anxiety has arrived; it will awaken the esprit de corps in our military establishment to mount the final and total operation to liberate the people of Chibok, and Nigerians in general from the threat of violence and death,” Alake said. www.thenationonlineng.net/new/buhari-armed-forces-neglect-ll-soon/ |
The presidential candidate of the All Progressives’ Congress (APC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), on Tuesday gained an unusual support as the main agitating militant group in the Niger Delta, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), pledged its total support for the former military ruler. MEND, in a lengthy press statement circulated through email by its spokesperson, Jomo Gbomo, anchored its decision on the need to deliver Nigeria, especially the Niger Delta region, from the crunching effects of corruption. It also lamented the unconcerned attitude of the President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration at the unrelenting degradation of the Niger Delta environment, taking a hard stance on the increasing level of oil theft in the region. President Jonathan, according to MEND, does not deserve a second more in the Presidency. The group also commended Buhari for proposing to scrap the office of the First Lady, which it considered to be a drain on the nation’s resources and a conduit through which corrupt government officials stole across all levels of government. It said, “The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has, upon careful consideration of the state of the nation, endorses and fully supports the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Gen. Mohammadu Buhari. “Our decision to throw our full support on Gen. Mohammadu Buhari stems from the pathetic state in which the country has been put by the government of Goodluck Jonathan and our strong believe in Buhari as the man and change the country needs. “President Goodluck Jonathan does not deserve a second more in the Presidency as soon as his tenure expires as he has continuously and blatantly disregarded the very people who voted him into office. “A President that told Nigerian to their faces that he does not ‘give a damn’ when asked to declare his assets. A requirement that is constitutional on assuming the office of the President. “President Jonathan, since assuming his office, has setup countless committees, whose reports have never been implemented. From the Nuhu Ribadu report to the KPMG and fuel subsidy reports, just to mention a few. “How can Nigerians expect a highly corrupt person like Goodluck Jonathan to fight corruption when he believes that stealing is not corruption, as he shamelessly told the Nation? “He has proven beyond all reasonable doubt, his inability to tackle corruption or prosecute a single government official in his six years in office. “MEND finds it laughable the recent statement by Goodluck Jonathan on his government’s plan to fight corruption. This statement not only smacks of ignorance of the highest order, but also shows just how stupid he thinks Nigerians are. A president that had six years to tackle the problem but chose to shield corrupt government officials, joined in the looting of our resources and now has the temerity to say his government has a plan to fight corruption. This is a big slap in the face of every single Nigerian! “We re-state our disregard and lack of confidence in President Goodluck Jonathan. Rather than address the perennial issues in the country responsible for his administrations failures, he is concentrating government funds in a campaign of misinformation intended to hoodwink Nigerians who, unfortunately for him, are now wiser and smarter than he is. “Goodluck Jonathan’s actions, utterances and arrogance prove that he is totally disconnected with the situation facing the ordinary Nigerian and completely out of touch with reality.” www.thenationonlineng.net/new/mend-backs-buhari-presidency/ |
By Chucks Okocha Governorship candidate of Labour Party in Rivers State, Prince Tonye Princewill, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will lose Rivers State because of the disorganised state of the party caused by its governorship candidate and former minister of state for education, Nyesom Wike. Princewill, who hitherto was a governorship aspirant in PDP, also described the choice of Yemi Osinbajo as running mate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, a smart move. He added that President Goodluck Jonathan would have won easily if the Rivers State governor, Chibuike Amaechi was picked as Buhari's running mate because he would put a dent to the anti-corruption posture of APC presidential candidate. Princewill who defected from the PDP and emerged governorship candidate of Labour Party, condemned the humiliating treatment meted to other PDP aspirants under the influence of Wike. Princewill said: "Looking at PDP. I decided not to support Nyesom Wike simply because by my opinion he cannot win. It is just pointless to me that if Wike loses and APC wins, we are sitting there and watching it happen. www.thisdaylive.com/articles/pdp-will-lose-rivers-state-because-of-wike-tonye-princewill-/197327/ |
Early this year Apostle Suleman Jphnson gave his 2014 prophecies which many has already been fulfilled. The 50th prophcey says ''Presidency Will Dump Gov. Dickson''. Now with the current rift between mama peace and Dickson which led to the resignation of Mama peace as Super permanent secretary in Bayelsa state civil service, i think Gov. Dickson will soon be the next Timi Sylver. Gov. Dickson was a willing tool used by the presidency to destroy the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF). He was actively involved during the fight against some PDP governors who later joined APC. Most meetings on how to bring down Ameachi was held in Bayelsa state with Dickson among them. Dickson was also used by the presidency to Timipre Sylver. Now the presidency has turned against the same Dickson. So, who will Dickson turn to for help, Timipre Sylver or Ameachi? What goes around must surely come around. |
NWANICHODE:I wonder how some people think. Do they expect Ameachi to do everything? Had it been Odili did half of what has done am sure Rivers state would have been better by now. Ameachi didnt bother renovating any secondary school in Rivers state rather he concerntrated in buying new model primary & secondary schools. As long as Rivers state is concern, Ameachi has done well in the Education, Health, Agric, Power & road sectors |
LAGOS - No fewer than 300 Boko Haram fighters have surrendered in Nigeria’s neighbouring country Cameroon in the past three weeks, Cameroon’s defense ministry has said. Cameroon’s defence Spokesman Lt. Col. Didier Badjeck told The Associated Press that the militants have given up their arms and asked for asylum in Cameroon. Their fate has not been decided. Fighters from neighbouring Cameroon, Niger and Chad have been identified fighting alongside Nigeria’s homegrown Boko Haram group, which in recent weeks also has been attacking border towns and villages in Cameroon. According to the country’s military spokesman, Lt. Col. Didier Badjeck, the Islamist militants gave up their arms and asked for asylum in Cameroon. Cameroon soldiers also Saturday captured Abakar Ali, one of Boko Haram top commanders. The country’s army also seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition from the Islamist militants during the operation. Reports said Ali, who also goes by name “Mustapher Umar” was caught with 5 machine guns, 14 rifles, 24 rockets, 4 rocket launchers, 6 Kalashnikovs, 60 Kalashnikovs magazines, 4 automatic pistols , over 500 9mm ammunition, 469 12.7mm ammunition, 4,454 7.62 mm ammunition, 1,491 5.56 mm ammunition, 822 ammunition of 7.62 mm, 6 grenades, 28 rocket launcher chargers and other weaponized accessories like pincers, tweezers and knives. Cameroonian soldiers nabbed Mr. Ali with two other Boko Haram fighters in Kousseri, a town in northern Cameroon. He is described as the insurgent commander, who has been leading the Islamist sect’s attacks around the border towns between Nigeria and Cameroon. Ali often shuttled between various Boko Haram camps in the area and organized deadly attacks that targeted mostly civilians. It is expected that the Cameroonian military would share intelligence gathered from the apprehended sect member. The insurgents have in recent weeks attacked border towns and villages in Cameroon. Boko Haram had seized a string of towns and declared an Islamic caliphate in northeast Nigeria before the Nigerian military started recording victories with air and ground attacks that have resulted into 135 Boko Haram fighters also surrendering to Nigeria’s army. According to the Nigerian Defence Ministry, about 135 insurgents surrendered last Tuesday night, some at Buni- Yadi some 200 kilometers (125 miles) west of Konduga and others at Michika, 165 kilometers (100 miles) south of Konduga. It was gathered that several militant commanders were among the dead including Mohammed Bashir, whom the Nigerian military identified as a double who posed in videos as Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau. The Nigerian military has claimed in a statement that Shekau has been killed in a battle last year. Prior to the emergence of reports that Shekau has been killed, President Goodluck Jonathan has revealed that the Boko Haram would end by next month. Jonathan made the revelation on in Abuja, while speaking at the 66th National Executive Committee, NEC of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. He said the security challenge posed by the sect who have been killing innocent Nigerians as well as the destruction of properties estimated at billions of naira would drastically change. www.vanguardngr.com/2014/09/300-boko-haram-members-surrender-cameroon/ |
Unfortunately these cameroonians failed to realize is that the reasons boko haram still exist are 1) Politics 2) Religion 3) Ethnic/tribal sentiments Had it been that boko haram wasn't a Nigerian terror group, they(boko haram) would have been history by now. |

Will they bar me if i have $1m to invest in mauritius? Why can't our education system be given the desired attention to save Nigerians of all these embarrasment? If Mauritius with limited resources can better their country, why can't Nigeria with abundant human n natural resources? Nigerians prefer studying abroad because of so many probs in Nigerian schools. Getting admission into a Nigerians university is hell. When u finally got admitted, u have lecturers to face. Even if u are the most inteligent one, u must pay to pass. A lecturer will do everytin to crush u because he hates u. If ur course is 5 years, ASUU will add additional 2 or 3 years for u. Then when u finally graduates, there is no job. Chei Chei Chei |
Yes, i am 100% sure that this is the set time to crush Boko Haram. With the heavy casualties been suffered by the sect, it is obvious that if our troops can launch more deadly offensive on the sect now Nigeria will definitely regain her peace. The Nigerian Army should not allow them(BH) to regroup or recruit more fighters now. They (NA) should take the war to the insurgents and possibly bring their madness to an end. Our Military have sacrificed so much already. Therefore, it is time to deploy more jets and newly acquired attack helicopters in order to end boko haram. Right now the insurgents are trembling with fear due to the blow they received in today's war. There is no better time to take the war to the insurgents than NOW! MORE STRENGTH TO OUR GALANT SOLDIERS |
No fewer thann 400 members of the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram were reportedly killed in their latest clash with soldiers of the Nigerian 7 division. The insurgents fell to the officers who ambushed them while they tried to attack Konduga local government area of Borno central senatorial district. Locals also said, that, they attempted to attack Konduga from two directions with over 500 fighters when the military fought and defended the local government, killing over 200 before the insurgents etreated. DailyPost also gathered that, after the attack was repelled, some of them went through the forest and were heading towards Mafa local government area when soldiers laid ambush on them again, killing over 100 while the rest escaped with bullet wounds. In another development, over 100 sect members who came up to attack travelers along Maiduguri- Potiskum road met their Waterloo when the detachment along that route engaged them in a fierce battle, killing all of them. www.dailypost.ng/2014/09/17/boko-haram-400-killed-konduga-ngamdu-soldiers-ambush-insurgents/ |
