laudate: Oluyinka Kufile, Chairman and Managing Director of Qualitec Industries Limited, started business on a small-scale, in the eighties. From importing and marketing pots, pans and aluminium wares, he moved into large scale manufacturing, by setting up a private company focusing on production of aluminum materials and long-span sheets. His company is based in the Agege area of Lagos, but has a huge multi-million naira factory in Otta.
“We have made these investments, because we believe that what is worth doing at all, is worth doing well," says Oluyinka Kufile. "When we started, it got to a point that we had to approach American Nexim Bank. They obliged us and gave us the facility. Today, it is a different story.” And that story is a successful one.
Kufile, is also the vice-chairman of Basic Metal Group of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN). He is however sad that the Aluminium Smelter Company, located in Ikot Abasi in Akwa Ibom State, is still under lock and key. It used to produce ingots which are the raw materials used for fabrication of aluminium coils. Today, such ingots are imported from Cameroun at a huge cost. If Kufile had his way, he would urge the federal govt to reopen the smelter company, so that local production of ingots can resume.
His firm Qualitec is already well positioned to maintain its lead in the industrial sector. His factory already has a rolling mill that reduces aluminium into various thickness and gauges, along with a tension levelling line and other specialised equipment, for ensuring that products from their factory meet global standards. https://www.businessdayonline.com/qualitec-industries-raising-the-bar-in-nigerian-aluminium-industry/ Excellent!! |

Obi1kenobi: You know....I've often pointed out that there's a huge difference between patriotism and nationalism. The OP's frequently absurd apologetics in defense of a failed nation represents the toxic face of nationalism. Listening to him at times, you'd think Nigeria, rather than a shithole with barely superior living standards to war and famine ravaged countries, was like Switzerland. I've had amusing interactions with British people about British politics and what I always find funny is how virulently critical they are of their governments. They portray all those Etonians and Oxbridge politicians and elites who are actually skilled, competent people, as utter imbeciiles. I was watching a BBC hosted debate during the UK elections between May and Corbyn which was hosted in York University with an audience of mostly teenage university students and the utter impertinence with which they confronted, contradicted, interrupted, criticized and ridiculed May in particular was a shock to my system. Accountability matters. This is a country where an SAS soldier was prosecuted and jailed for finishing a wounded Taliban militant who was part of a team that ambushed the SAS soldiers, just because the militant was apparently too wounded to be a threat. France, a beautiful country with one of the greatest welfare standards on earth is the protest capital of the world. French workers are well renowned and often parodied for railing against the government.
It's utterly bizarre squaring reality like this with a troll who thinks we should somehow be grateful to exist in an utterly useless country ruled by kleptocrats at every administrative tier and every arm of government. And we dare not point out that life could and should be so much better and we have to convince ourselves that a big-for-nothing shithole is paradise. Paradise that tens of thousands of Nigerians are risking their life to flee from in crossing the Mediterranean. What in the world is the matter with you? Are you fuccking mad? Yes he is. He is a mad person |

Warship: "........As for Biafra. If you secede from Nigeria you will be assuring your own demise, as you will lose access to Africa's largest market of 200 million, and be forced to compete with Japan, China, and the west for access to foreign markets. That is the last thing you need, as nations set up protectionist tariffs, while preferring trusted technology from familiar partners......." Rossikki
What are the populations of South Korea, Japan, Singapore, South Africa, France, Germany, Switzerland, etc.?
Are they bigger than 100million in each country.?
Do you know how many Biafrans exist on Earth.?
If Biafrans take Technological Education and Award seriously, they will become a nation of industrialists which will give them access to every nation of the world including wretched Nigeria.
The world market is over 7billion. South Koreans are 50 million in population while Igbos are 40. I dont see much difference if you ask me. Do mind that op. He does not know what he is saying |

OoduaVanguard: But why must you people wait on Nigeria to help you turn your region to Dubai? Yorubas were able to single-handedly build the first skyscraper in sub-Saharan Africa in the early sixties amongst many other firsts, without FG support. Till today no single building in the entire SE and SS can match that Cocoa House edifice in height and elegance 50-years later. After the Lagos and Abuja CBDs, no other CBD in Nigeria can match Ibadan's up till today (as attached below). Why can't you people demonstrate flashes of greatness like we Yorubas without depending on the FG?? Common 2nd Niger Bridge your people can't even come together and build it without FG. Smh. Yet they claim they are the most industrious, intelligent, richest people in Nigeria. Ordinary seaport they cant build for theselves. They want FG to do that for them. By establishing a reputation for quality and reliability, his firm quickly grew to become one of the leading wholesale stockists and re-sellers of branded computer hardware systems and accessories in the market. neoOduduwa: I've been eyeing the entertainment industry and our grip on it is pretty solid. We are going to show potopoto slaves how it's done, we Omoluabis back our claims with facts
Movie Industry
First of all let's clear the air about who started Nollywood and who it belongs to. I will keep saying it that Omoluabis are humble achievers who don't make noise about their success unlike some uncultured arrogant fools who always tune their volume knob to Max whenever they make little precedented achievements. Claiming that we pioneered Nollywood would be arrogant and that would put us at the same level with them. So, basically, I'm just going to debunk their ridiculous claims to owning Nollywood.
Ibos are always quick to cite Chika Okpala and his crew who made waves in the 1980s with their sitcom on NTA titled "The New Masquerade" as the pioneers of Nollywood, But can one really conclude that they're the pioneers because of the TV broadcast? Can anyone account for the roots of the modern Hollywood industry without mentioning the hardworking peripatetic actors who moved around in caravans when acting was still in it's latency in the old America?
Where was Chika Okpala when Hubert Ogunde was entertaining the country. Na who dash monkey banana? Hubert Ogunde was already performing in the 1940s and Chika Okpala was actually born in 1950 It's a disrespect to the man's honor to disregard theatres and folk operas as the initial platforms of Nollywood.
Hubert Ogunde's plays include The Garden Of Eden, Worse Than Crime, Black Forest, The Tiger's Empire, Strike and Hunger, Bread and Bullet, Yorùbá Ronu, Ija Ominira, Africa and God, Israel In Egypt, Nebuchadnezzar's Reign, My Darling Fatima, Portmanteau Woman, Beggar's Love, Princess Jaja, Ajani Ogun, Aiye and many more . Hubert Ogunde wasn't the only Yorùbá man in the scene as his contemporaries include the likes of A. B David, P. A Dawodu, Layeni and G. T Onimole.
Also, let's not forget that Western Nigeria Television (WNTV) came into action during the 1960s and enabled Ogunde an avenue to reach his audience without traveling. He produced his plays : Ayanmo and Mama Eko for the television audience. How is it now possible to compare Ogunde whose plays were broadcasted on TV in the 1960s to one Chika Okpala who came later in the 1980s?
Notable Yorùbá directors back then include G. B Kuyinu, Ola Balogun, Duro Ladipo and so on. Ogunde is also to be credited for actresses being paid in the industry. He brought professionalism into the practice and enabled women become professionals in light of their own right. Notable actresses back then include Beatrice Oyede, Abike Taiwo, Idowu Phillips (Popularly known as Mama Rainbow) and so on.
At this point, I hope I've been able to clarify who the real pioneers of Nollywood are. Fast forward to 2017, we still have potopoto slaves claiming they actually "own" Nollywood. Let's go through the list of highest-grossing Nigerian films
1. The Wedding Party - 453 million naira - Produced by Mosunmola Abudu and Directed by Kemi Adetiba
2. A Trip To Jamaica - 178.5 million naira - Produced by Ayo Makun
3. 30 Days In Atlanta - 137.2 million naira - Produced by Ayo Makun
4. Fifty - 94 million naira - Produced by Mosunmola Abudu (EbonyLife TV) and Directed by Biyi Bandele
5. Half Of A Yellow Sun - 60 million naira - Directed by Biyi Bandele
6. October 1 - 60 million naira - Produced and Directed by Kunle Afolayan
7. The CEO - 60 million naira - Produced and Directed by Kunle Afolayan
8. The Return Of Jenifa - 35 million naira - Produced by Funke Akindele and Directed by Muhydeen S. Ayinde
9. The Figurine - 30 million naira - Produced and Directed by Kunle Afolayan
10. Weekend Getaway - 22.8 million naira - Directed by Desmond Oluwashola Elliot
11. Phone Swap - 20.7 million - Produced and Directed by Kunle Afolayan
12. The Visit - 14 million naira - Directed by Olufunke Fafoyin
13. Dazzling Mirage - 13 million naira - Produced and Directed by Tunde Kelani
14. Maami - 11.9 million naira - Produced and Directed by Tunde Kelani
15. In The Cupboard - 10.5 million naira - Produced and Directed by Desmond Oluwashola Elliot
16. Married But Living Single - 9.9 million naira - Directed by Tunde Olaoye
17. Out Of Luck - 9 million naira - Directed by Niki Akinmolayan
18. Irapada - 5 million naira - Produced and Directed by Kunle Afolayan
Note : The domestic gross of the movies above were produced by wikipedia.org, at no point in the post did I attempt to tamper with the records nor round any number up. Also, it's important to understand that the figures above were not adjusted by inflation. Every domestic gross stated above is the same as the number value which gives a glib and superficial analysis. For example, Kunle Afolayan's Irapada which generated 5 million naira in 2006 would have generated folds of it were to be released in 2017.
We don't need to make noise with these people, they're nerdy white boys trying to get into a dick-measuring contest with a Mandingo
Omoluabi ju won lo Yorubas need to leave Nollywood and create their own movie industry. What do you think? |
