What is it with igbos and chritsmas?. They celebrate chritsmas more than any other in the world. i was wondering why a foreign culture could go down well with a group of people so much that you may think it originated from igboland. Why is christmas so special especially among igbos and why do they always travel to their mother land for it?. 90% of the Nigerian work force in my hospital that will be off duty this december are ibos . Their love for christmas is unparalleled even when economy is hitting hard. What do igbos see in christmas?. Do they know it's oyibo culture?. Do they have any other festival in igboland that they celebrate half as they celebrate christmas?. Why must they buy a new car, house etc for christmas? |
huhHuh? Enemy of the state. |
She has resumed the attack. She first thought I met my fiance online, then he is ibo, then he is aloy emeka, then I am not yoruba ,then I am not Nigerian, then I am very unhappy and it goes on and on and on. Very soon I will become a black American. There has been occasions where she threw the bullet at my parents, family members even in threads i am not interested. Lately, she is telling me which areas to explore in nairaland as if i have the whole time in the world like her. osis, if you can get her a job, even if it's CNA, she'll definitely spend more time loving herself and may be a boo will follow before her eggs freezes over. |

shotster50:Why is this misplaced priority or are you guys no more interested in technology breakthrough you've been complaining about?. Iran dey hungry but they are building nuclear technology by force. The suspects, Kabiru Oyewole and Aliu Ramoni, were arrested and charged to court for raping a two-year-old baby who strayed into their apartment, at 3, Ajana Close, Ijegun Road, Ikotun. The men were said to have carried out the devilish act when the victim’s mother was washing clothes outside.unbelievable. |
Emotional dissatisfactionDeath, hunger, career failure etc can also cause emotional dissatisfaction. Should we engage in random sexcapades any time we are faced with any of those things? |
It has to be a top drawer performance or nowt!!!You have to be a bull first before seeking a bedroom cat for pre-intimacy. Who wants to stay with a man that comes/climax during just pre-intimacy?. You wonder why Pataki avoids pre-intimacy like hell. |
olabowale:If he was like other prophets and messengers, why do muslims hold him to high esteem more than other prophets? As the midway between Adam time and the end of man's time on earth.. Turn the other cheek is a metaphor. Ode. Allah through Muhammad (AS) tamed the worst kind of hard hearted tribes, the Arabs, cousins of the nations of Isreal, (both are still the worst kind of hard hearted people on earth, when push comes to shove). They the arabs then assumed the original role of the Children nations of Israel, while the bloodline of Ibrahim was through this arabs is still the line to propagate the oneness of God and His worship.Muhammed achieved this through wars abi?. Jesus came in peace and not with war. I can give you more reason that it not nessary that he will not comeback, until all men are being raised up, in recreation as adults to stand up for Judgement. But the most important, is that he had tasted death, while Jesus had not tasted it. Proof, there are many among men who are reported to have died or having experienced near-death. Do you truly believer that if these people ever died and came back, while many are not Christian, what would conclude from it; they are also in the same category as Jesus, or they allucinated, or at least those who said they are dead missed a vital sign that pointed out to the contrary? Aftrall, no one said that Jesus went to regurmortis, since no one checked up on him, to know if he was alive and or only in a coma, for just a short time only. You need a death certificate to authenticate His death?. If He can ascend into heaven while living, what gave you the impression that He faked his own death? Is Allah no more capable of everything?. I know that If i claim now that mohammed was a fake prophet that faked everything about him including his holiness and godliness , your friends here and you will report me to Seun before your moderator wake up. Roflmao @ calling Jesus a 419er. And the famous expression that one only lives once, will simple means death occurs one and only at the end of life. And coward dies many times (at least one) before his/her death! (Thats Will-i-am Shakespear; aint it; lol). You be correct Ode. So the same Jesus that faked His own death is now a coward for dying many times?. Jesus died only once for your information and ascended into heaven without dying again. So keep your coward dies many times line because it didnt fit. |
mohammed is a mortal flesh like u and me and has died therefore can never comeback for the bible says that it is appointed for a man to live once and after that it is judgment. So my dear Mohammed can never and will never comeback till time for judgment. Jesus on the other hand was God made in flesh that only came to dwell among men during his life time and after his ascention was when he said he would come back to pick his people home. And that is all. No one elseOk; Now the difference is clear. |
Just one week after military men assaulted a lovely lady, another group of military men decided to taste their assault tactics on Iyabo Obasanjo, a whole senator for that matter all because disrespecting women in Nigeria seems to be an acceptable culture. Iyabo will show them pepper. |
bawomolo:Count your teeth na. How many women are area boys/girls or almajiris in Nigeria?. 40% of males in Nigeria are on the streets compared to 2% of females. |
from the Jewish,Mohammedan and Christian point of view, male seem to be dominant.this does not however hold in traditional africa.in igbo speaking area for example, the ada has a whole lot of respect even more than males.in some parts of igboland, there exists matrilineal societies.precisely eastern igbo in present abia state. When did Igbos or any other tribe in Nigeria start matrilineal culture? Are you telling me that some igbos answer their mothers name instead of their fathers last names? |
Simple: The man does not change his last name so the father knows his name will continue to exist. Many women keep their family name and refuse to change theirs to their husbands name. So that reason is kaput. This is one of the major reasons - and I also know a lot of white men who truly want male kids, or have you ever heard of a female US president? well maybe almost, but not yet!Who told you this BS? |
Tonim:This example will not count because it is the number of hits a site get that determines the marketability. If Seun takes side here, believe me this site will be dead in one month and his business will go up in flames. Why Obasanjo ditched Afenifere in 2003, by Chief Bisi Akande By Alex Emeje, Snr. Correspondent, Abuja National Chairman of the Action Congress (AC), Bisi Akande, said on Tuesday that former President Olusegun Obasanjo reneged on a gentleman agreement he reached with the leadership of the pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, over the 2003 general elections because of his rejection by the group at polls earlier in 1999. Akande said at a press conference in Abuja that the former president was yet to forgive Afenifere because of the manner it (Afenifere) frustrated his (Obasanjo's) effort to win the Yoruba votes at the polls at the time. Akande was in 2003 Alliance for Democracy (AD) governor in Osun State. Giving an insight into the betrayal that led to the loss of four of the five states controlled by the AD in 2003, Akande said "Obasanjo was yet to forgive Afenifere for using the AD to get him rejected by the Yoruba people in the 1999 elections. "Since then Obasanjo has done all within his power to neutralise Afenifere's myth in Yoruba politics by using Akinfenwa as his agent to destroy AD." Akande also lampooned some members of the Afenifere whom he described as those that conspired with Obasanjo to wreck Afenifere in 2003. To him, a group within Afenifere led by Ayo Fasoranti, Olu Falae, Ayo Adebanjo, Femi Okuronmu and others who allegedly conspired with the former president to wreck AD in 2003 were no more that traitors. He said such people cannot lead Afenifere because they lacked the necessary brain power to tackle the present Yoruba complicated affairs. http://odili.net/news/source/2008/nov/19/714.html |
Nigeria's N30bn satellite lost forever — NigComSat DG Written by Luka Binniyat & Chinyere Amalu Wednesday, November 19, 2008 IT has now been confirmed that the disintegrating N29.95 billion ($256 million) NigComSat - 1 flown into orbit about a year ago by China Great Wall Industry Incorporation (CGWIC) is irreparably damaged and has been safely de-orbited to its eternal resting place in the heavens. This was confirmed yesterday by the Managing Director of Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NigComSat), Mr. Ahmed Rufai, while appearing before the House of Representatives Committee on Science and Technology chaired by Usaq Akinlade. The MD then pleaded that more money be appropriated for the construction of two new equipment, as the business viability of the communication satellites in Nigeria was not in doubt. He, however, said though the satellite had been lost forever, the underwriters had already agreed to replace it with a new one and negotiations over the 112 million Euros insurance policy was ongoing. According to him, the loss of the highly publicised satellite was not due to a manufacture defect, but caused by solar flare, which also damaged the solar panels of six other similar satellites that fateful November 9, 2008 “The first incident occurred on April 17, 2008 when half of the power was lost from the South Solar Array due to a single event offset leaving the North Solar Array as the only source of power,” he told the committee. “Unfortunately, a similar incident occurred on the Northern Solar Panel Array on November 9, 2008 at about 10:34 p.m Nigerian time during a non-eclipse position. The batteries are only supposed to discharge during eclipse and recharge when in non-eclipse position, while the solar array acts as the source of power to the satellite,” he said. to him, Nigerian engineers monitoring the satellite noticed it immediately and communicated to the Chinese manufacturers, saying both team then worked tirelessly but, in vain to revive NigComsat – 1. “Regretfully, all effort to recover power supply to the power panel failed. The satellite was consequently de-orbited to avoid total loss of power and control which would result in damages to other satellites in orbit or even aircraft in flights,” he said, adding: “The satellite has now been manoeuvred to the parking orbit and cannot be recovered for use again.” On insurance, he said: “We wish to state unequivocally that NigComSat – 1 is fully insured to the tune of 112 million Euros in accordance with industry standards by renowned international underwriters with proven integrity. The ground segment including the Ground Station and equipment are necessarily insured under a separate policy by local underwriters.” He then asked that the Committee help it convince the Federal Government to approve the commencement of the utilisation of a $500 million concessionary loan from the Chinese Expert Import Bank for the construction of NigComsat 2 and 3. He also asked that the company be allowed to discuss with the Chinese government and the satellite manufacturer on reassigning of an emergency satellite with technical specification similar to the lost satellite in orbit or in advance stage of construction. Minister summons fact-finding meeting Meanwhile, Minister of Science and Technology, Mrs. Grace Ekpiwhre, has summoned top government officials in the ministry to ascertain the true situation of the satellite. According to a statement from the Ministry of Science and Technology in Abuja, yesterday in attendance at the meeting were the Managing Director of NigComSat, Mr. Ahmed Rufai and the DG of National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Prof Robert Boroficce. Also at the meeting were chief executives of technical departments of the ministry, including the Minister of State, Dr.Alhassan Bako Zaku, and the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Raymond Ezenwa. According to the statement, the meeting which lasted over three hours, received detailed briefing from chief executives of the corporate agencies concerned —NigComSat and NASRDA. “During the meeting, all the critical issues concerning the current status of the satellite, the technical agreement between Nigeria and China, the insurance of the satellite, the fate of the clientele, the security of the satellite and the data were fully and exhaustively discussed,” it said. The minister who was outside the country on official assignment during the controversy trailing the packed satellite expressed concern about the situation. She, however, constituted a high-powered committee to look into the issues in its entire ramification and make suggestion that would not compromise Nigeria’s national interest. “Despite the temporary setback experienced in the implementation of the nation’s satellite project, the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology was optimistic on the future and potentials of the project and view the concern and media attention on the issue as a veritable signs of patriotism but crave the continual support of the media in the attainment of this vision. An internal Crisis Management Team (CMT) is already in place and is currently working with the manufacturers, CGWIC, the Technical Consultants in Canada and the underwriters to conclude the Fault Tree analyses and commence discussions on the insurance policy. “The company has also contacted the http://odili.net/news/source/2008/nov/19/311.html |
Nigeria seeks $500m loan to build new satellites From Onwuka Nzeshi in Abuja, 11.19.2008 Wednesday, November 19, 2008 The management of NigComSat Limited has appealed to the House of Representatives Commi-ttee on Science and Technology to prevail on the Federal Executive Council (FEC) to approve the utilisation of $500 million (N59 billion) concessionary loan for the construction of NigComSat 2 and 3 advanced series. The loan, according to the firm, would come from the China Exim Bank. The appeal follows the final confirmation of the loss of the N40 billion NigComSat-1, as exclusively reported by THISDAY last week. The two proposed facilities will serve as back-ups to the construction of a NigComSat-1R meant to replace the lost satellite. Managing Director of the firm, Professor Ahmed Rufai, disclosed this yesterday while briefing members of the House Committee. Rufai, who said NigComSat-1 had become “irreparably damaged” and therefore flown out of orbit, added that given the importance of the facility, there was need for its urgent replacement and the construction of back-ups. He also urged the House to assist the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology and NigComSat Limited in convincing FEC to approve the bulk purchase of bandwidth under a Back-Up Services Agreement with an alternative satellite operator who has a satellite as powerful as the collapsed NigComSat-1. Rufai proposed that in the alternative, the Nigerian government could open discussions with the Chinese government and the satellite manufacturer, the Chinese Great Wall Industry Corporation (CGW-IC), on the reassignment of an emergency satellite with technical specifications similar to NigComSat -1 either in orbit or in advanced stage of manufacture. According to him, NigComSat remains optimistic on the future and potential of the project despite the temporary setback being experienced in the implementation of the nation's satellite project. He said the current experience of the loss of the satellite was neither uncommon nor bizarre in the industry, adding that on the same day NigComSat-1 crashed, a private satellite operator recorded six failures on six satellites. He debunked claims that the facility failed because of the use of inferior components and the speed at which it was installed during the twilight days of the Obasanjo regime. The NigComSat boss also allayed fears on the status of the facility in terms of insurance, stressing that NigComSat-1 was fully insured to the tune of 112 million euros by renowned international underwriters with proven integrity and in accordance with industry standards. Giving some details on the failed satellite, Rufai said the problem was caused by what he described as "solar flare", an accidental occurrence which cut of the fuel supply linkage with the solar panels and the battery. “The first incident occurred on April 17th, 2008 when half of the power was lost from the South Solar Array due to a single event offset leaving the North Solar Array as the only source of power,” he told the committee. “Unfortunately, a similar incident occurred on the Northern Solar Panel Array on the 9th November, 2008 at about 10:34pm Nigerian time during a non-eclipse position. The batteries are only supposed to discharge during eclipse and recharged when in non-eclipse position, while the solar array acts as the source of power to the satellite. This anomally was noticed by NigComSat Ltd engineers on night duty and reported to the satellite manufacturer, China Great Wall Industry Corporation. “Both teams worked tirelessly for over 24 hours to perform rescue operation on the satellite. Regretfully, all efforts to recover power supply to the power panel failed. The satellite was consequently de-orbited to avoid total loss of power and control which would result in damages to other satellites in orbit or even aircraft in flights. The satellite has now been manoeuvred to the parking orbit and cannot be recovered for use again.” Meanwhile, the Minister of Science and Technology Chief Grace Ekpiwhre, has held a meeting with senior officials of the Ministry to chart a way forward. In attendance at the crucial meeting were Rufai and the DG of National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Prof Robert Boroficce. Also at the meeting were chief executives of technical departments of the Ministry, including the Minister of State, Dr.Alhassan Bako Zaku, and the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Raymond Ezenwa. The meeting which lasted over three hours received detailed briefing from chief executives of the corporate agencies concerned – NigComSat and NASRDA. Officials of CGWIC are expected to arrive the country soon to meet with Nigeria officials to work out both technical and political solution and also get another mission ongoing. http://odili.net/news/source/2008/nov/19/205.html |
Obasanjo-Bello: Senate investigates brutality by security agents From Sufuyan Ojeifo in Abuja, 11.19.2008 Wednesday, November 19, 2008 In response to a motion by Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello in which she claimed to have suffered 'brutality' in the hands of security agents at a church service last Saturday in Ogbomosho,Osun state, the Senate yesterday mandated its Committees on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, National Security and Intelligence to investigate the case along with other cases of brutality of civilians by security agents in the country. Obasanjo-Bello had come under Order 15 of the Senate Standing Orders (2007 as amended) to move the motion, which enjoyed the support of her colleagues. She narrated her ordeal in the hands of a security agent attached to her State Governor, Gbenga Daniel, saying, “it is an issue of assault by a member of the State Security Service on my person and I feel that giving the prevailing circumstances, I feel I should bring it to notice here on the floor.” Obasanjo-Bello decried the action of the state government-owned television station and other stations in the state, which, according to her, had been transmitting an edited version of the incident that did not show where the security man arm-twisted her. Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu , said in his contributions to the motion that the incident was condemnable. He, however, pointed out that Obasanjo-Bello should have come under an Order of personal explanation rather than an order of breach of privilege. Senate Deputy Minority Leader, Senator Olurunminbe Mamora , however said that the floor of the Senate should not be used “to settle political scores.” Noting that the matter was political in nature, Mamora advised that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) should explore political solution to it. In her contributions, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Education, Senator Joy Emodi stated that “It is very unfortunate; what happened was an insult on the psyche of the people of this country and Nigeria women in particular." Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence, Senator Nuhu Aliyu, in his contribution, stated that the Iyabo case was the second. He said that Senator Suleiman Nazif also had a similar treatment in the hands of security agents in Bauchi State, even as he promised to engage the Director General of the State Security Service (SSS) on the series of brutality against senators. http://odili.net/news/source/2008/nov/19/200.html |

Soldiers get life jail for arms supply to militants From Saxone Akhaine, Kaduna IT was a day of reckoning yesterday when military authorities, through a general court-martial in Kaduna, sentenced an army officer and five soldiers to life imprisonment for illegal arms supply to militants in the Niger Delta. Essentially, the six, Major Suleiman Alabi Akubo and five others, were convicted for supplying arms to leaders of the militant group, Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND) and thereby endangering the security situation in the country. The convicted soldiers were Sergeant Matthias Peters, Lance Corporal Alexander Davou, Lance Corporal Moses Nwaigwe, Lance Corporal Nnamdi Anene and Private Caleb Bawa. Two other soldiers, Kola David and Aliyu Mohammed, charged and tried along with the convicted officer and soldiers were, however, lucky as the court-martial demoted them from their current rank of corporal to private. Akubo and the five soldiers were charged and convicted for selling military weapons of various descriptions stolen between January 2000 and December 2006 from the depots of the Nigerian Army located at the Command and Staff College, Jaji and the One Base Ordnance, Kaduna, to the MEND through one Sunny Owei Okah, a junior brother of the leader of the Niger Delta militant group currently standing trial before a civil court in Jos, Plateau State, for alleged gun-running. Before convicting the officer and soldiers after the summing up of the arguments of both the prosecution and the defence counsel by the Judge-Advocate, Col. Lanre Adekagun, the President of the 10-man court-martial, Brig.-General Bala Usara, read out the details of the charges against them to include: Civil offence to wit criminal conspiracy punishable under Section 97 (1) (1) of the Penal Code and triable in a court- martial by virtue of Section 114 (1) of the Armed Forces Act Cap A 20 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004; criminal breach of trust punishable under Section 215 of the Penal Code and triable in a court-martial by virtue of section 114 (1) of the Armed Forces Act Cap A20 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004; criminal conspiracy punishable under Section 971 of the Penal Code and triable in a court-martial by virtue of Section 114 (1) of the Armed Forces Act Cap A20 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004; illegal dealings in firearms contrary to Section 9(1) of the Firearms Act Cap 4 (28) Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004 and triable in a court-martial by virtue of Section 114 (1) of the Armed Forces Act Cap A20 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004; civil offence to wit: criminal conspiracy punishable under Section 97 (1) of the Penal Code and triable in a court-martial by virtue of Section 114 (1) of the Armed Forces Act Cap A20 Laws of the federation of Nigeria 2004; and aiding the enemy punishable under Section 45 (2d) of the Armed Forces Act Cap A20 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004. In stating the particulars of the offences committed, Brig- Gen. Usara said that the convicted personnel, at Jaji and Kaduna in Kaduna State on various days and occasions between January 1, 2000 and December 31, 2006: agreed between and among themselves and others at large to commit the offence of criminal breach of trust ; being entrusted with care and security of arms at One Ordnance Depot, Jaji and One Base Ordnance Depot, Kaduna dishonestly disposed off quantity over 7000 arms of various descriptions; agreed between and among themselves and others at large to commit the offence of illegal dealings in firearms ; not being registered firearms dealers engaged in the sale of quantity over 7000 arms of various descriptions; and agreed between and among themselves and others at large to commit the offence of aiding the enemy. All the offences were said to have been committed knowingly and without lawful excuse through furnishing the Niger Delta militants with quantity over 7,000 arms of various descriptions, property of the Nigeria Army through Mr. Sunny Owei Okah for over N100 million. Brig- Gen. Usara also overruled the issue of jurisdiction to try the convicted officer and soldiers earlier raised by the defence team, stressing that it did so towards the tail end of the trial and during the closing of addresses when it had become very late to do so. Akubo in his allocutus for a mitigation of the impending sentence by the court-martial, pleaded in an emotion-laden voice that the panel should temper justice with mercy. Akubo, who told the court that he was a lecturer at the University of Jos before he joined the then National Guard, explained that he had always been an officer with good character until he had a problem with a senior military officer, now a Brigadier General and a former registrar of the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna. The counsel to the convicted soldiers, Lt. Obot, also pleaded with the court for a mitigation of the sentence to be passed on his clients. But in his ruling after the court resumed from a short break, the president of the court-martial said the accused persons must be sufficiently punished for the offences committed to serve as deterrent to others. "The GCM has listened to the allocutus made by the first convict, Major S.A Akubo and the defence counsel for the second to the 8th convict. The allocutus was indeed moving and the court-martial was deeply touched by the circumstances of the convicts. However, the court believes that it would be failing in its duty if the punishment that is commensurate to the gravity of the offences committed is not imposed on the convicts. The court-martial has therefore decided to impose a sentence that is punitive enough and will also serve as a deterrent to others. Brig- Gen Usara, in his verdict, sentenced each of the accused to 10 years imprisonment for each of count one and two while he slammed on each of them five years imprisonment for each of count three and four. And for each of count five and six, the court-martial pronounced each of the accused person guilty with the punishment of life imprisonment. Usara declared that the sentences passed on the officer and five soldiers would run concurrently but subject to the confirmation of the appropriate superior authority. The court, however, reduced Kola David and Aliyu Mohammed ranks from corporal to private. http://odili.net/news/source/2008/nov/19/13.html |
