Govt created 1.6 million jobs in 12 months By The Citizen The Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, says the Federal Government has created 1.6 million jobs in the past 12 months. Okonjo-Iweala disclosed this during her presentation at an interactive session with the private sector, where she said that a total of 432,021 jobs were created during the first quarter of the year, adding that this figure represented about 11.69 per cent increase over the number of jobs created during the fourth quarter of 2012. She stated, 'We have created 1.6 million jobs in the past 12 months. 431,021 jobs were created in the first quarter of 2013, showing an upward trend in job creation and an increase of 11.69 per cent from the fourth quarter of 2012.' Okonjo-Iweala said a key government programme focused on direct job creation was the Community Service Scheme, which aims to engage 320,000 youths in labour intensive work such as construction and rehabilitation of social and economic infrastructure. According to her presentation, about 120,000 people have been employed so far under the scheme, which is being anchored by the Subsidy Re-Investment Programme. She also listed the Graduate Internship Scheme, which aims to attach 50,000 graduates to competent firms to enhance skills development towards employability. She noted that 4,000 graduates had emerged so far under the scheme. According to Okonjo-Iweala, who spoke on the 'Economy's macroeconomic performance for 2013 and the outlook for 2014,' the Gross Domestic Product growth is expected at 6.75 per cent at the end of 2013, up from 6.61 per cent in 2012. She recalled that the GDP growth in the first three quarters of 2013 stood at 6.56 per cent, 6.18 per cent and 6.81 per cent respectively. The minister noted that economic growth during the year had continued to be driven by the non-oil sector. However, she lamented that the rate of economic growth as well as the quality of growth had been very slow, underscoring the need for improvement. 'Nigeria needs to grow faster in the job-creating sectors at between nine to10 per cent per annum to create the number of jobs needed to substantially reduce poverty,' she said, adding, 'GDP rebasing, which is currently in progress, could increase GDP substantially but its impact on growth rates is not yet certain.' She further noted, 'Economic growth needs to be more inclusive as inequality is high and rising in Nigeria; this needs to be reversed.' In order to achieve this, the minister said the Federal Government would in 2014 make efforts to 'remove structural bottlenecks' in sectors as power, ports, rail, roads, communication technology (broadband) and aviation. Also, there will be an improvement in the business climate and efforts will be made to reduce bureaucracy and fight corruption. She gave the assurance that the government would in 2014 enact supportive polices for sectoral growth in agriculture, housing, manufacturing, creative industries, solid minerals, oil and gas and petrochemicals, among others. 'We will also build social safety nets for vulnerable women, children, and the disabled to address regional disparities,' she added. A British court has sentenced Ellias Preko, a former Goldman Sachs investment banker who helped former Governor James Ibori of Delta State to launder millions of dollars, to four and a half years in jail. Mr. Preko, 54, is originally from Ghana. Our correspondent reported that Mr. Preko remained impassive as Judge Anthony Pitts announced his sentence. Earlier, the disgraced banker had thanked the judge as he was taken into custody following guilty verdicts returned by the jury on two counts of money laundering. “His world has very much fallen apart,” defense barrister Richard Horwell told the court in a plea for leniency before sentence was passed. Mr. Preko was arrested five years ago as the net closed in around former Delta State governor, James Ibori. Mr. Ibori himself was last year sentenced to 13 years imprisonment by the same judge after he plead guilty to charges of money laundering. The jury heard evidence that between 2000 and 2003, Mr. Preko took $5 million stolen by Ibori, his wife and mistress, and made it appear to be clean money so that the loot could be lodged in trusts held in the British tax haven of Guernsey. The cash came from inflated contracts awarded by Mr. Ibori’s administration to three companies held in the names of Ibori's wife and mistress. Email evidence seen by the jury showed that Mr. Preko instructed the Iboris on how to fill out forms for businesses so that they could pass the Guernsey bank's due diligence investigations. With the benefit of Mr. Preko's expert help, the rogue companies, named Sagicom, Zircon, Zeta and Onyx, appeared to be legitimate. But investigations by the Metropolitan Police revealed that the address of the companies' head office was in fact an off-license on Awolowo Road, Lagos, prosecutor Sasha Wass told the court. The money laundering scheme was the “first of many” future transactions Mr. Ibori promised to execute in email correspondence shown to the jury. source http://tribune.com.ng |

kingk: Thanks to the Father, Son and Holy spirit......... I'm a christian (christ-like) but I don't belong to any denomination but I don't neglect the gathering of brethren. Though I've never said going to hospital is a SIN, but when you live the right kind of life, somehow you'll be free from some sort of sickness.hmmm i be pastor chris pikin....... ![]() |
kingk: The bold ^ answered it very well........is it not many whom called themselves Christians that are committing diverse of atrocities?........ My brother I really thank God for he made everything right and simple through his words. No wonder the bible will say he that have ear, let him hear I also believe that when one fails to work according to the principles of Jesus christ, then the wages of Sin which include diverse sickness will befall on him/her.i dey suspect u say na christ embassy u dey attend.....cos only Pastor chris no dey tell him members dat wen u live d right kind of life God has given u....u wont need a test |
kingk: You right bro, for me, the bold ^ can totally heal and cleans one from all infirmities............but the question is how many people truly acknowledged the healing power of it, the do's and don't of it? Am even surprise that some do take it as normal thing forgetting the power behind it, some having diverse of sickness that's why they'll always run to do a test cause they never heed to the WORD of God.well my issue here is why do people who claim to be Christians go for testing ........the only answer maybe dat dey claim to be christains but really dont understand the life they have being called to live |
kingk: Bro, I believe that those who worked in holiness and righteousness won't and will not need to do HIV test cos the promise of God will always be fulfil in their life. But for those going for a test, I do believe that there's something wrong (sin) in them.very true.....but even if the person is living wrongly and can take up the word of God as raw as it is and believe it......he shall be made whole some dont even know the power behind a very practical but surer demonstration like the breaking of bread and drinking his blood can do for us. they try to use logic and even men of God encourage people to go for hiv testing.....its a really sad case ![]() |
Sin is an act against the word of God.Its anything that makes the word of God of none effect in our life. The life of a Christian is not a normal life.it is divinity at work in a man.Christianity is not like any other religious movement. I have watched Christians/churches call for hiv testing for their members and i wonder where is it in God's word. Even if some will say its okay for us to know our hiv status but like what happened in the garden of Eden. The Lord God asked Adam this simple question .....who told you that you are naked. God's word says we are divinity...The life of God lives in us and through us..so why do you need a man made test to prove God's word.Who came first is it the Hiv virus or God...who do you believe...Is it the doctor or God. The word of God warns us that whatsoever things are good....Whatsoever things are pure....whatsoever things are of good report....dwell on these things....why are Christians trying so hard to use logic/science to prove God's word. Unbelief is when a person does what faith doesn't approve of.... If you say you have eternal life ....then you don't have to bother with sicknesses because Christians are living spirits while every other humans who are not Christians are living souls so Hiv testing is not for a Christian who knows who he/she is ![]() |
timothy001: Thanks Sir,So that means I Cannot sale it until someone else want to buy?? What if it's takes 2 weeks to get a buyer and the stuck market has gone down by then.that means i lose right?yes you cannot sell it until someone wants to buy.......if it takes forever to get a buyer thats when you can sell and at that forever prize.... ![]() well for transcorp they will surely get buyers becos what they do is put a hot news on the news tab.....make it visible as much as possible........let it hit front pages of newspapers.....and greed will set in becos everyone loves a success story.....and like a magic wand people starts fight for the stock.....greed in play..... while they know the party is over and want to off load their huge quantities ![]() |
timothy001: How about my other questions Above?well when buying stocks people buy from IPOs (initial public offers) if you can remember 2006 -2007 was the crazy years of IPOs in nigeria......but since no IPO is out for now which i wont advice anyone to buy.......because buying IPOs is the way a poorly informed man trades stock. The next way one can buy stocks is through OTC (over the counter) which is the best method for now depending on how quick your broker can get you the stocks you want. So the only delay i can see here is how quick your broker can get you out and in which is relative to your brokers timing...If you meet a broker thats fast in doing business than you are lucky but a slower one hmmmmmmmmmmm ![]() Then the last factor is greed and fear.......if the stock is going up greed will get you a buyer so fast when you want to sell but if the stock is falling fear wont let a buyer touch it even with a long stick....... ![]() so you have your questions answered sir |
timothy001: @def lover, Are there any factors that could delay Execution of Trade/ Sell?? And how long does it take to get back your money once it's been sold?well no one is certain if 50kobo will be revisited......but i am of the view that we may see 2 naira......but 2-3 yrs....hmmmmmmmmmm dats some time to hold it but maybe we can discuss if u dont mind..............08066482808 |
