For those that have been eager to know about the BHI Experience I will be detailed enough to give you everything that you need to succeed. However, from the aftermath of the experience itself it seems you do not only need to perform at your best but also need to play your way through. Yes play your way through because it was sadden to discover that some were selected based on the fact that they had a contact person in BakerHuges meaning the process itself wasn’t totally transparent. Nevertheless, please do not be discouraged as I will give you detailed information such that your outstanding performance will leave them with no choice but to select you.
Day 1 – The first day was somewhat more of an arrival day. When I landed in Port Harcourt I saw some folks holding a BakerHughes board stand. They took me to the Hotel (Golden Tullip), one of the best hotels in the city. When I get to the reception I was given a welcome letter but if you are not please request for it because it contains every detail you need to know regarding the following day which is day 2. On checking in I got to know my roommate coz it has been scheduled to be two in a room. Trust me a hotel of 55,435 naira per night is one you can’t take away anything from. It’s more than convenient for two. Later in the evening, one of the HRs called to ascertain that I was around and that I have read the welcome letter. My feeding has been taking care of so I and my roommate did not hesitate to get our dinner at the hotel restaurant called “Anioma restaurant”- a buffet.
Day 2 – Day two started at about 6a.m. at a venue within the Hotel premises. The assessors who are managers with over 12 years of experience and the HRs introduced themselves and thereafter we were asked to do the same. The format that was given was that you will have to form words with each of the letters in your first name. The first letter will represent how you will be addressed all through the experience. At this point you have to be smart in that you really need to get a word that will truly represent your person. Take for instance if my name is “electromag”, meaning I could say E for Efficient. Then you could work around the word and make you point clear and precise.
After this exercise, we were then taken to the D&A factory of BakerHughes where we had a lot of assessment and aptitude. We had a tour of the factory in batches where we got to know more about drilling services and wireline. At this point you need to be aware of your environment and you need to ask intelligent questions. Just ensure as you go about the factory- be involved. After the completion of the tour we had an aptitude test.
The aptitude test comprises of a case based scenario and a quantitative section which was all about MAYAN NUMBERS. If you don’t know anything about mayan numbers I will advise you Google things up and get all the info about mayan. You will be tested on basic arithmetic (Addition , subtraction , multiplication and division – although of the 30 questions under these you get to have just one division question which was 18 divided by 3) using mayan notations.
Then the next assessment was the technical based assessment. This comprises of 5 different stages which are; PH test, 2- Assemblies, Use of multi-meter and Use of vernier calliper. The litmus test is about using a litmus paper to check if the solutions provided are acidic, basic, or neutral and afterwards you get to use an electronic meter to check for same and compare your results. All these are done in 10 minutes and you really need to be fast at it. It’s not so much of a problem you only need to follow instructions – which is the key to every exercise of the BHI Experience. The 2 assembly- you will need to use the assembly drawing provided to assemble piece of the part given to you. You really need to know how to interpret assembly drawing. If you do not; go and find a way out. For the vernier calliper section – you will also need a bit of interpreting engineering drawing to know where to measure and also need to know how to measure using a calliper. You will be required to measure depths and diameters, so get yourself prepared on this. And finally on this section, you will be required to use a multi-meter to measure the resistance value of a resistor. Ones you get the multi-meter, tune it to the point you have the symbol of the ohm and the place the probe at both ends of the resistor and record you value for sample A,B and C. Afterwards you will then be requested to manually calculate the value of a resistor based on the colour coding provided. Please, remember you have 10 minutes each for each section and you need to work as fast as you can. Less I forget, since Baker Hughes takes safety very seriously you will have to put on your gloves and goggles first before you commence anything, else you will lose points.
After the technical section, we had a break and thereafter we were taken back to the hotel. The next activity was a group assessment. You will be divided into groups and will be saddled with responsibility of building an oil rig. Like I said earlier you need to follow instructions, work effectively as a group and be proactive in all these exercises. You will be given a money card where you can go and buy whatever that is needed to build the chosen rig you want to build. Please decide fast on the type you want to build with your group and ensure you go to the market early enough so that you can buy all that is needed before it becomes crowded and you are limited with resources. It’s an exciting exercise just be yourself and work effectively as a team.
Thereafter, you will have an individual kind of game. They will raise a case based scenario and you will have to pick your answers with a card (blue, yellow, green and red). The instructions will be well stated and read out. FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS. This exercise is centred on the core values of BakerHughes which are: Integrity, Courage, Leadership, Performance and Team work.
The final part of day 2 is an interview. You will be asked three basic questions which are 1. Why Field Engineers? 2. Why BakerHughes? and 3. The challenges you envisage as a Field engineer?
The day 2 lasted till around 10:30pm. Really exhausting but keep your head up and your best in each of the exercise.
Day3 – Was a brief day. We had just two exercises. The first was a team/group work. In this exercise, we were presented a scenario of going for a career fair in a university and where we would be enlightening the students on the role of a field engineer and why they should join BakerHughes. Being a newly recruited employee of bakerHughes you will be asked to come up with your presentations as a group. At this point all you know and have read about bakerhughes comes to play and you need to dish them out with your team in order to have a befitting presentation. Afterwards, each person had a one-on-one interview with all the assessors and HRs. This marks the end of the BHI Experience.
At the end you will then be called in one after the other to know your fate – if you are successful or not. Out of the 20 of us I think 9 were successful. It’s unfortunate that I wasn’t part of the team. Like I said in the beginning of my epistle, it goes much more that your excellent performance. I have taken it in good fate and believing God has a better plan for me.

Eteng Rajuno has made history by becoming the first student to bag a First Class in Radiography at the University of Calabar (UNICAL). She was honoured at the eighth Induction and Oath taking of the College of Medical Science. STANLEY UCHEGBU (Accounting) reports.

The induction at the College of Medical Science of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) was remarkable. Although it was the eighth oath taking at the Radiography and Radiological Sciences departments, it was special. An inductee, Ms Eteng Rejuno, made history by bagging a first class, the first since Radiography was introduced in the school in 1981.

“Today, history is made in the Department of Radiography. We produced the first student to be graduated with a First Class in the department. And this makes the event remarkable. I will enjoin you to always seek knowledge and make the best of your career,” said Prof Etuk, whose speech was read by Prof Itam.

Eteng had Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.5 – the highest recorded since the institution started awarding Bachelor degree in the discipline. For the feat, Eteng bagged seven honours, including automatic employment in the school after her National Youth Service.

Others best students are Emmanuel Agiande, who was the best in clinical proficiency, and Mabington Okwuonu, best in leadership creativity.

Speaking on behalf of the graduates, Eteng praised the department’s lecturers and parents for their efforts in making their dreams come true.

She said: “We thank the management, the college authorities, our parents, friends and well-wishers for the roles they played in ensuring that we are being inducted today. We specially appreciate our parents for their financial and moral support.”

Kano – Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau dismissed Nigerian military claims of his death in a new video obtained by AFP on Thursday and said the militants had implemented strict Islamic law in captured towns.
“Here I am, alive. I will only die the day Allah takes my breath,” Shekau said, adding that his group was “running our… Islamic caliphate” and administering strict sharia punishments.

Nigeria’s military said last week that Shekau was dead and that a man who had been posing as the group’s leader in the videos had been killed after fighting with troops in the far northeast.
Security analysts and the United States questioned the credibility of the military’s claim.
The new 36-minute video showed Shekau, in combat fatigues and black rubber boots, standing on the back of a pick-up truck and firing an anti-aircraft gun into the air.
Standing in front of three camouflaged vans and flanked by four heavily armed, masked fighters, he then speaks for 16 minutes in Arabic and the Hausa language widely spoken in northern Nigeria.
There was no indication of where or when the video was shot.
The heavily bearded Shekau, who appeared to be the same as those in previous clips, said the military’s claim that he was dead was propaganda.
“Nothing will kill me until my days are over… I’m still alive. Some people asked you if Shekau has two souls. No, I have one soul, by Allah,” he said, apparently reading from a script.
“It is propaganda that is prevalent. I have one soul. I’m an Islamic student.
“I’m the Islamic student whose seminary you burnt… I’m not dead,” he added, apparently referring to the destruction of the group’s mosque in the Borno state capital, Maiduguri, in 2009.
There have been two previous claims by Nigeria’s security forces that Shekau was dead — once in 2009 during unrest in Maiduguri — and again in 2013.
Following each previous claim Boko Haram has issued denials in video messages.
Elsewhere in the new video, the militant leader said the group had implemented strict Islamic law in the towns that it had captured in recent weeks.
“We are running our caliphate, our Islamic caliphate. We follow the Koran… We now practise the injunctions of the Koran in the land of Allah,” he said.
The group also claimed to have shot down a Nigerian air force jet that went missing nearly three weeks ago.
An air force spokesman said the jet was missing.
“For any group to claim they shot it down is mere propaganda and rubbish,” Air Commodore Dele Alonge told AFP.

saasala: I can say I am one of the funniest beings alive and I mean it, believe me, I am. If you doubt me, on request I will send you a video of myself making basket-mouth and bovy laugh in my dream. I am not much of a talkertive, though I talk pretty much, and when I do, you must laugh if I want you to.

Anyone can be funny, but not everyone can be a comedian. Being funny is learn-able, just like riding a bicycle. You can become a very funny person if you wish. There are loads of articles online that teaches how to be humorous. Just use google. Some people were not born funny, but they learned it and now its as easy as breathing in and breathing out to them.

When you see me, you see happiness radiating around me. I dont fake my smiles like the president of a green white green nation. Only a happy person can transfer happiness. The happiest people in the world are the funny ones.

2. You are likable, loving and lovable. People will just like you and they wont be able to pinpoint why they do. If you are a guy, then you can go ahead and marry the daughter of an Arab Emir if you are funny. I am not a good looking guy, am not ugly though, am just there. I am the least handsome among my friend, but when we go out, at first the ladies abandon me for them, giving them faces and all that, but the moment I open my mouth to talk, they will start laughing, then they start falling for me. Father Abraham knows how many girls I have ****** because of my sense of humour. You have to be realy careful because you stand a high chance of messing up with your friends' girlfriends. All my friends' girlfriends love me to be around, they are always asking of me...where is asala, where is asala. No one can talk you down because they know you will finish them with your humour.

4. You are a good lover and family man/woman: My dad was (I think he is still) a poor man, but a good father and husband because of his sense of humour. My Dad would make my mum laugh so much she would start shedding tears, or sharing tears like P. Jonathan would say. My mum couldnt keep a malice of 1 day with my dad, they will end it with laughter. We couldnt wait for our dad to come back from work every evening to make us laugh..Oooh, gone are those days. He still makes me laugh till date when I call him on phone or pay him a visit....My girlfriend always want to be around me, she always want to see me because there is no dull moment with asala, in fact she compelled me to write this post on NL. She must laugh, she must be happy. One of her friends saw my pic on her phone and she asked how in the world she fell for this not-so-good-looking-guy but when she met me, she understood because I made sure she laughed her ass out.

A U.S. professor of plant pathology is suggesting to West Africans that the Ebola virus is a bioterrorism weapon developed by the U.S. being used on Africans.

The essay, published by Dr. Cyril Broderick in the influential Liberian newspaper the Daily Observer, comes on the heels of an announcement by the U.S. that it will be sending 3,000 troops to help contain the spread of Ebola.

The virus has already killed over 2,000 people of the 4,507 cases that have been reported during the past six months of the current outbreak. The 2014 West Africa Ebola outbreak, which is primarily impacting the three countries of Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, is the worst in history. The survival rate of the virus, which takes about 21 days to incubate, is about 50 percent.

Dangerous rumors among the public that Ebola is a government ruse and the virus is not real have led to violent retaliation. In some cases, mobs of people have broken down the doors of medical centers where Ebola patients were being treated, telling the patients to leave because they weren’t sick.

There have also been deaths from attacks made by villagers in remote areas where Ebola workers were visiting. Last week, a group of Ebola workers and journalists were murdered by villagers in Guinea when they went to check on the village. More recently, a group of Red Cross workers were brutally attacked while doing Ebola prevention work.

Broderick, whose essay has generated concern that he is feeding into dangerous public sentiment over Ebola, is originally from Liberia. He is a former professor of Plant Pathology at the University of Liberia who now works at the University of Delaware. In his essay, Broderick states that the Ebola virus could be part of the “American-Military-Medical” industry and manufactured as a form of control over West Africans.

“Because of the widespread loss of life, fear, physiological trauma, and despair among Liberians and other West African citizens, it is incumbent that I make a contribution to the resolution of this devastating situation, which may continue to recur, if it is not properly and adequately confronted,” writes Broderick.

He also alleges that various sites in West Africa have been set up over the years to test emerging diseases, including Ebola, with part of the purpose to test vaccinations. There are currently a number of experimental treatments for Ebola victims being tested in the U.S. on a handful of medical and aid workers who have returned from Africa with the virus for treatment. The most recent patient, Rick Sacra, was an Ebola patient released from a Nebraska hospital on Thursday.

The U.S. could possibly spend upwards of $1 billion in personnel and equipment to help contain the Ebola virus in coming months.

BENIN CITY—AHEAD the 2015 presidential election, Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, has submitted a letter of intent to the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, just as he intensified consultations with stakeholders across the country, including former Presidents, Vanguard has gathered.

It was gathered that time table for his nationwide consultation meeting with APC governors, meetings with former presidents, opening of his campaign headquarters in Abuja and Edo State and setting up of committees would soon be made public.

Vanguard gathered that majority of the APC governors may soon endorse him as their candidate due to the belief that his popularity cuts across the country, which is one of the attributes they intend to explore to stop President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who, incidentally, is expected to visit Edo State this weekend.

Vanguard learnt that the intention of the governor was to take a long rest after his tenure as governor must have expired in 2016, but persistent pressure on him to join the presidential race from APC governors and influential Nigerians may have made him change his mind.
If the governor picks the APC ticket, he may be squaring up with President Jonathan, who also is from the South-South.

However, the Special Adviser to the governor, Mr Kaseem Afegbua, who reacted to the governor’s alleged presidential ambition, said that the governor has the pedigree to run for the highest position in the country, therefore, people should not be surprised if he decides to join the race.

“I don’t know why it appears strange that Adams Oshiomhole is running for president? Does he not have the pedigree to do so or some people are just trying to be cynical about his ambition? Or the PDP is jittery, knowing fully well that Oshiomhole enjoys national support and a greater appeal than some of those presently eyeing the plum position.

“Since the news broke, we have been inundated with several telephone calls which also suggests that a lot of Nigerians across socio-political divides welcome the idea. Some of those highly placed Nigerians that spoke to us concede to the fact that he is eminently qualified to run for the nation’s highest office.”

Old Trafford chief executive Ed Woodward has been sanctioned by his side’s board to pursue a deal to re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo and given a blank cheque to make the move a reality.

Having sold Ronaldo to Real Madrid in an £80m deal back in the summer of 2009 Man United will offer the Spanish giants £60m for the Portuguese international in a bid that is more likely to be launched next summer than in the January transfer window.

In a remote part of India, young Mangli Munda is marrying a stray dog to fight off evil spirits that her family believes she has. The dog was found by the woman's father. The big wedding was taken care of by the 18-year-old's parents, to the dismay of the wife-to-be. Munda wasn't pleased with her parents' selection of a groom, saying, "I am not happy with this marriage."

If you think Munda's father was solely to blame for this unusual arrangement, he wasn't. Munda’s mother was adamant about the need for her daughter to get hitched to the hound named Sheru. The pooch even arrived stylin' and profilin' as most grooms often do — chauffeured in a car. Munda's mother mentioned, "We have to spend money on this wedding. That is the only way we can get rid of her bad luck and ensure the benevolence of the village."

But Munda won't have to love and honor her husband all the days of her life. The relationship isn’t legally binding, which will probably keep this bride from going barking mad.

In this remote village in the eastern state of Jharkhand, the ceremony isn't unheard of. It’s just a tradition meant to ensure the longevity of a couple's marriage when Munda is eventually married to a human groom. And, hopefully, her next husband won't turn out to be a dog.

GENEVA (AP) — The Ebola outbreak in West Africa eventually could exceed 20,000 cases, more than six times as many as doctors know about now, the World Health Organization said Thursday.

A new plan to stop Ebola by the U.N. health agency also assumes that in many hard-hit areas, the actual number of cases may be two to four times higher than is currently reported.

The agency published new figures saying that 1,552 people have died from the killer virus from among the 3,069 cases reported so far in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea and Nigeria. At least 40 percent of the cases have been in just the last three weeks, the U.N. health agency said, adding that “the outbreak continues to accelerate.”

In Geneva, the agency also released a new plan for handling the Ebola crisis that aims to stop Ebola transmission in affected countries within six to nine months and prevent it from spreading internationally.

Dr. Bruce Aylward, WHO’s assistant director-general, told reporters the plan would cost $489 million over the next nine months and require the assistance of 750 international workers and 12,000 national workers.

The 20,000 figure, he added, “is a scale that I think has not ever been anticipated in terms of an Ebola outbreak.”

“That’s not saying we expect 20,000,” he added. “But we have got to have a system in place that we can deal with robust numbers.”

Aylward said the far-higher caseload is believed to come from cities.

“It’s really just some urban areas that have outstripped the reporting capacity,” he said.

Aylward also said the agency is urging airlines to lift most of their restrictions about flying to Ebola-hit nations because a predictable “air link” is needed to help deal with the crisis. Air France on Wednesday cancelled its flights to Sierra Leone. Aylward said the agency hopes airlines will lift most restrictions within two weeks.

Nigerian authorities, meanwhile, said a man who contracted Ebola after coming into contact with a traveler from Liberia had evaded their surveillance efforts and infected a doctor in southern Nigeria who later died.

The announcement of a sixth death in Nigeria marked the first fatality outside the commercial capital of Lagos, where a Liberian-American man Patrick Sawyer arrived in late July and later died of Ebola. On Wednesday, Nigerian authorities had said they not yet eliminated the disease from Africa’s most populous nation but that it was being contained.

The doctor’s wife is also in isolation now after she starting showing symptoms of Ebola, Nigerian Health Minister Onyebuchi Chukwu added. Morticians who embalmed the doctor are part of a group of 70 people now under surveillance in Port Harcourt.

1. Wickedness: we have heard series of unproven rumours about people who contract some deadline diseases and decided to spread it to innocent people, since they should die alone. I pray it doesn’t become the case here.
2. Uncharitable conducts at screening centers: people are expected to be open about their symptoms and not allow health professionals to run series of tests that could endanger them too.
3. Disrespecting the surveillance team: people are expected to cooperate with these individuals who have volunteered their lives to curb this issue. Not when they tell people to stay at a place, that’s when you see them travel through public means. See how oyibo cases are flied abroad in private jets.
