@Beaf

You seem to have avoided answering some of the concerns raised by xwolvrine and you made mention of a framework to be laid on the table by the Finance Minister etc,  Come on, lets face facts and reality this is Nigeria we are discussing here and not some Western civilized nations where political and intellectual sanity prevails.

You keep mentioning that the long term gains of deregulation will benefit Nigerians but what about the issue of Corruption that Nigeria is wallowing in and the unimagineable salary that the politicians are pocketing, if the Jonathan as intelligent as he is cannot address the issue of corruption but deems it fit to plunge Nigerians into Fuel subsidy trauma amidst the on going bombing issues rampant in the Country , it is not rocket science to say that he has failed.

And if I remember correctly you mention that Nigerians should wake up and realise that the oil we have cannot continue to pay for our subsidy but sure it can pay for the extravagance and luxury of the thieving politicians ruling this country?

Can you sincerely tell me of one social benefit the citizens of Nigeria enjoy either Old or Young that is not paid for indirectly one way or another,  let me give you an Illustration using Kuwait

THe image below shows the list of Oil producing countries

https://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb314/saayinla/Oil.jpg

"the kuwaiti  government occasionally disburses a portion of its budget surplus as a grant to all Kuwaiti citizens. In 2006, a grant of (approximately $700) was paid to every citizen who applied. In 2007, the government implemented a debt forgiveness scheme for Kuwaiti citizens amounting to just over $1 billion. In February 2011, the government announced a grant of estimated (approximately $5.3 billion), including (approximately $3,500) to be paid to every citizen along with free monthly food baskets to each Kuwaiti family for 14 months."

Also note that "Among the benefits for Kuwaiti citizens are retirement income, marriage bonuses, housing loans, virtually guaranteed employment, free medical services, and education at all levels."

Agreed Kuwaiti's Population (by birth) is around 2M and Nigeria 1bout 160M not that I am expecting same amount of grants and aids from the Government but Nigerians are getting a very bad bargain if any at all.

Simply put it is just not right on Nigerians no matter what arguement you want to use to support this subsidy removal, there are things that should truely be in place before issues like this should be tabled for discussion at all.

Enough of all this "be careful of wat u say against men of God" or"touch not my annointing" blah blah blah,  This can only happen in Nigeria am afraid and its partly due to the type of leaders we have who have absolutely no concern for the welfare of the populace, obviously the girl needs help either from poverty or from a psychiatric hospital and all the pastor could do was condemn her to hell because she refused to be labelled a witch? I wonder why these pastors do not practice there brand of christianity in the States or the UK am pretty sure they ll be in jail now for one human right violation of another. Churches need to have boundary which is the responsibilty of a sane government but alas Nigerian does not posses one, Nigerians are the only people on earth that will link loss of Job due to economic recession as the work of witchcraft and the death through accident as the watch of your enemies forgeting the fact that the Car in question is not mechanically sound, of the driver at the wheel is not qualified to drive or even the road itself is not fit for purpose. Nigerians are so helpless but to turn to "men of God" even if the so called "man of God" is obviously wrong all they can offer in response is that "be careful of wat u say against men of God",  blah blah blah,  Nigeria will NEVER move forward until we are critical of these so called "men of god". (if anybody requires further explanantion I ll be happy to give it.)

I am already drafting a letter to the home secretary in the UK and my local MP on this issue , either the Man is tried by Nigerian government or he ll banned from entering the UK.

Is it really worth it to continue staying in this country? Are we cursed or what exactly is the problem with us?

Why is is that we leave leprosy to fight excema. We don't even have leaders. Why is it that we always like to shroud everything in secrecy. It is only in Nigeria that policemen commit criminal acts and they are covered by 'powers from above'. In any sane society, judging from the way the guy was killed, people would have been put on the spot. Initially we were told the guy was killed and was not captured alive. We all believed it until a newspaper raised it that he was arrested alive and even interviewed. At that spot, those guys involved will have been arrested and tried immediately but in Nigeria the powers that be prevented that.

So it took a bomb blast to wake government up to its responsibility. This is a very crazy thing.

Men we don't have leaders at all. How did things get so bad in this country. Well God dey sha. Those who have made peaceful change impossible are making a violent one inevitable. Time will tell
Cursed will be a subtle way of putting it.
Nigeria is worse than cursed,
Tunisia just sentenced their Ex-President to 35 years in jail for Corruption,
Wonder when that will happen in Nigeria,

TravelNigerian Court Guard Jailed For Stealing From Barristers by dejavus(op): 10:31pm On Jun 16, 2011
Original Story http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard/article-23961189-old-bailey-guard-jailed-for-stealing-from-barristers.do

An Old Bailey security guard was caught stealing from some of Britain's top barristers in a police sting.

An undercover operation was launched after lawyers complained that mobile phones, cash and even wigs were going missing from the robing room at the court.

City of London detectives rigged up cameras and left £100 of photocopied dummy banknotes in a wallet as bait. They watched as Ifamuyiwa Callisto entered the room, which is reserved for barristers changing into gowns.

He was seen rifling through lockers and suit jackets - eventually finding the wallet and taking the fake cash.

When arrested Callisto confessed and said: "It was easy pickings."

The 52-year-old Nigerian was jailed for six months after pleading guilty to three counts of theft.

Police who raided his home found £1,900 worth of fountain pens belonging to Michael Wolkind QC, who represented farmer Tony Martin in an appeal against his murder conviction.

The pens were reported missing last September, while Mr Wolkind was successfully defending Richard Harrison-Allen on a charge of murdering 17-year-old footballer Etem Celebi.

Tom Cockroft, defending, said father-of-three Callisto had turned to crime because of financial troubles.

Since his arrest the former nurse had been thrown out of home by his wife and sacked from his job at the court.

District Judge Daphne Wickham jailed Callisto, of Tower Hamlets, for three months on each of two counts of theft, to run consecutively, with a further three-month term to run concurrently.

This bombing in Abuja is not just about politics, its about religion. these activities are sponsored by a cartel of Islamic extremist and terrorist within and outside Nigeria.

you cant negotiate with this kind of people,  they dont need money, they are sponsored by multi-billionaires, they have been brains washed by religion.

Thats the difference between MEND and BOKO HARAM.   Mend is not a religious so their  demands will be more understood.  Trust me, if you ask these  BOKO HARAM people what they want from Nigeria, This will be their answers.

1, GEJ should step down and have a muslim take over

2, GEJ should become a muslim.

I still point this to the source of the container load of explosives that was discovered in Nigeria, The sss know the truth, they know those who imported, those explosives into the country. Until people begin to vomit the bribes they have taken and say the truth, Nigerian security will remain useless

Nigerians will never cease to amaze me, making definitive and categorical statements like This with no evidence whatsoever to back  it up is not only childish and silly but alarming as well.

I hope the man at the elms of Affairs does not think this way also, why am I even surprised,

If its MEND, blow up their hide outs and clear them out. This is full war on Nigeria, and we must respond with decisive force. No more negotiations.
IS it only me that thinks National Security and Nigeria does not go together in the same sentence?

Alternatively, visit Oladipo, and see what they'll charge. Try to see some of their work, and get a comprehensive list of parts they'll replace. Post the list here, and I'll cross-check it for you.

Best of luck.
Thanks for your response.

If the Peugeot dealership could do it, that makes a lot of difference and more confidence.

I believe it safe to say categorically that Nigeria is a failed state afterall.

What good comes out of all these arrest if they are not going to give back the stolen money and face the music.
What good intention does GEJ has for Nigeria when he advised newly elected Governors not to bother proving what their predecesors stole in Publuic fund.

So much love for foreign culture, while they tag ours as primitive, fetish etc etc.
In Yoruba culture, any responsible person who is old enough to be your parent is considered your father/mother.
My father's elder siblings are Big-Daddy/ Big-Mummy, while is younger ones; Daddy/Mummy. All of them look after us.
Honestly, You need to practice this to know the fun in having several daddies and mummies.
murtalaa:
The concept of godparent does not apply to african settings. African families are predominantly extended. You can always find someone from your family to take care of your children when unable to so yourself. The western family on the other hand iS stricly nuclear in most cases. A typical family in the west comprises of only father, mother and children plus grandparents in few cases. It is a society where everyone is to themselves, hence the need for godparents.

It would be ironic to import this culture into the nigerian setting. ISome nigerian folks who appoint godparents to their kids never ceases to amuse me. i guess it is only to appear "western" and be seen as sophisticated.
Way to go guys!!!! grin grin grin

For it to repulse you that bad, you probably have a misguided concept of a godparent's role.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but what's your concept of a godparents role?
The Concept of godparent is what repulses me siena, the whole conecpt of giving the function performed by certain people a "name"
I have loads of relatives and next of kins who does exactly the same function, but I ll rather let it stay that way.
I happen to reside in the UK and a friend in Nigeria asked if she can be the godmother to my kids and I said No! she was hurt but I told her not to take it the wrong way, I just don't believe in it, end of!.

And also going by your definition, does that means who ever performs the functions of the godparents while they are unavailable becomes another proxy-godparent? or temp-godparent?

Then again, that's just me!

This is an excellent step in the right direction.

This means that it will be a criminal offence to carry huge cash in 'ghana-must-go' bags to different places without any genuine explanation.

The net is getting tighter against money laundering criminals.

However, I hope the law will not fail in implementation. As we all know, GEJ cannot implement the law himself. He need everybody in the country (police, lawyers, judges, Nigeria customs, etc etc) to make it work.
But we all know that the problem is not GEJ but the people who will Implement the Law, I trust the unpaid Police, jugdes, Custom and Border Officials will look the other once their palm has being Oiled in the event of this happening, All we need now is to Puch for maximum jail term and Confiscation of Assets on any guilty of Such crimes.

If this is akin to the US SS# system why would any Nigerian be against it huh
Oh, let me gues some of the potential excuses:

1.Nigeria is not yet developed for such an important scheme.
2. It just cost too much money
3. It will help expose Nigeria's criminally maligned census figures.
4. The ruling party wouldn't like it.
5. Sultan and emirs have issued a fatua condemning the scheme.
6. That money could have been used to send more Nigerians on religious pilgrimage
7. We've tried it before, and found it useless
8. It's useless
9. The office is dominated by people from a rival tribe
10. It's against our religion to issue women such biometric number, because it's against our customs and religion.
Others
Unfortunately this as you said is NOT akin to the US systems, we all know it will never work in Nigeria, not that the ID Card programme itself but we know this is just a way of embezzling more Money!
