It will be worse than the drama of a Lion finally catching a monkey that had been stoning it and running up a tree.

Will the shame allow them?
They had already denied bearing the cost of the subsidy by claiming it is paid by NNPC.
But is the NNPC not a revenue generating agency of the FG?
Won't the subsidy being taken out before remittance reduce what the FG receives from NNPC at the end of the day?
Why the deception? angry

They better keep paying and keep the price or even take it lower.
After all subsidy is a scam. grin

Hello Everyone,

I am getting married towards the later end of next year.

My father is Yoruba and my mother is from Calabar. I was born in Nigeria but have been in the U.S. since I was a young girl. My fianceé is Oyinbo and we are doing a traditional wedding ceremony.

Does anyone know where I find the steps for the Efik and Yoruba ceremony? My fianceé's family wants to join in a just wants a little more information so they can full participate. I don't just want them to sit there dumbstruck. I want them to be a part of it. I've tried searching for steps to the wedding, but haven't gotten good results. I basically want a program, what goes first, what is last, what to do in each part.

My parents are also helping me but I figure the more information I get, the better.

Any help or suggestions will be welcomed.

Thanks in advance,

TV10

Ps,

Here's an example of the steps in a Hindu wedding: https://www.thoughtco.com/hindu-wedding-rituals-1770478

Looking for something similar.

If you are going to have a Efik marriage it's the Master of Ceremony (MC) that will control the flow of the event. I think you will get the best information from an Efik TM MC.

If Shettima had headed the FG directive to relocate the school girls, the Chibok saga won't have happened in the 1st place.
What beats my imagination is how such a person will again turn accusing fingers at those who gave the directive he refused to honour.
Even more strange is the reward of the principal who was absent on the kidnap day with a position of commissioner.
Looks like an appreciation of a Job well done.

You are right. They are failed projects. Why? Those who did them only imported systems available. And which systems are available? Systems for those who first used them. And who first used them? North Americans, Europeans, and south American. And what do you notice about these places? They are with temperate climatic condition. So, how do you expect a system meant for a temperate place to work in a tropical place. The structures you see around are ovens. Some recorded inside temp of 45C. How do you expect any plant to survive that kind of high temperature. I mean, outside is 36C, inside is 45C. Their structures made their situation worse. Such a pity.
Thanks for your responses. But on the temperature issue I wish you can say a little more. My question actually arose from your explanation quoted above as the reason for failures. You indicated that materials can cause increased temperatures to as high as 45C (which is an extreme) when outside temperature is actually 36C. The question is, assuming one actually has the right materials, what measures can be put in place to achieve reduced temperatures instead of higher temperatures. And are there means to achieve this without need for electricity?

Tomatoes had been a crop that I knew of having high demand. I've noted that one should research and choose the most suitable and profitable crop (not necessarily tomatoes).

I've been following this thread because of your expert insights to green house farming in Nigeria. Though I'm into ICT, I began farming this year and I'm picking so much interest in green house farming and hydroponics. However your comments here drew my attention to a possible challenge to greenhouse farming in Nigeria which I wasn't initially conscious of. I did notice in most of the videos I watched on green house farming, they kept talking about keeping the temperature below 75F which is less than 24C and I was wondering how that could be achieved around here without incurring too much cost on power. Even at that it didn't quite ring a bell until you pointed out how greenhouses can get hotter inside than the outside. So how does one effectively control the inside temperature of a greenhouse without the production cost going above the roof.

When I googled "capsicum", what I saw was pepper. Is that what it is? If so, is there so much special interest for pepper as compared to tomatoes?

Can you consider setting up a thread on how to build an effective greenhouse for the tropics (with focus on Nigeria)?

Thanks for sparing your time to enlighten others like me.

I do realize how cheap tomatoes and how cheap they could be during some season, considering the fact that you have to invest in quality system to get a desire result which does not come cheap and by the time you start thinking of profits most of the materials are due for change already. This are the reasons and more that make me doubt the profitability of the greenhouse system here in southern part of Nigeria.

Again, my visit to major markets in Lagos and Ibadan, you will see several trucks loaded with this product daily mostly from northern Nigeria and some from neighboring countries and I doubt if this farmers make use of greenhouse at all.

Will surely revisit this again.
Sedfort Ingenious Agriculture seems to be doing well and they are located in the southwest. But what I observe is that they target the high end market (like shoprite etc). It seems the greenhouse farming (with it's attendant cost of ownership and cost of running) is best suited for large scale farmers who target the high end market for premium prices. It looks like if you are farming with the open market in mind you may find it difficult to break even. I'm still trying to understand how cost can be minimized for sustainable farming esp. for farmers without deep pockets. The system is really appealing to me. Hope we can get enough enlightenment to have success.

I am highly embarrased that you do not know vegetable production is highly profitable. What? This is the fatest agricultural area which will make you a millionaire. However, it can wreck you too and it has destroyed many people because they did not set up properly. You may struggle at the initial stage but if you get quality assets, you will eventually get balanced. And after, the sky is just the beginning. The main challenge in vegetable production is getting reliable farm workers but there are solutions. I can count my losses too but I gain more everytime by God's grace. Another challenge is logistics.

Do you not realise till date that food is extremely cheap in Nigeria? Do you think you can get tomato in most countries as cheap as you get them in Nigeria during certain period? Who use tomato to make stew daily? Who eat only red spup or stew? Of course Nigerians because it is extremely cheap. It may be the reason you call greenhouse products premium. Well, the truth is there are still expensive vegetables even in open market and those are the ones you need to target. Example is capsicum. You can still do it in greenhouse and make reasonable profit if you sell where tomatoes are sold if you do not want to go to grocery stores. Again, if you can put vertical structure in your greenhouse, you will make reasonable profit selling lettuce and cabbage to special vegetable market for average Nigerians. People still eat lettuce and cabbage here. If you can reduce the temperature in your greenhouse and you see that the cost of energy is not killing, green pea or green beans will give you profit if you sell in open market. I can go on and on. If it has to be tomato, you just make sure it is beefstake variety you plant so you make profit. Any other variety, you might struggle. Yes, you may plant plum tomato too but you might have to look for somewhere nice to sell it.

Lastly, with this Keto diet for people who want to reduce weight, mint is an excellent vertical production you can consider.

When he promised that he won't be travelling abroad for treatment didn't he know about the wrongs of 16 years? Isn't it the wrongs of 16 years and his promise to turn it around that got him voted into power? Now that he is there you say it is hypocrisy for Nigerians to ask him to fulfill his promises. So are you saying because there was 16 years of misrule, the misrule must continue? Why shouldn't he be held accountable for his promises? Didn't he also promise to take responsibility for everything that goes wrong? It is sad that people can come up with defense for situations like this. Before you label me one, I'm not an IPOB member, neither am I from the South East. If you are close to these people, you should better tell them the truth for the sake of this country.

If I could get what i needed in Nigeria, i would not import. Have you heard that someone closed his tomato paste industry in Nigeria and went to set up in China to start importing to Nigeria? I do not understand why you think sourcing locally will be cheaper. I am even going to buy from people who bought them there and are reselling which will make it more expensive and inferior. What exactly do we produce in Nigeria?

Farmers who keep sourcing locally or in the habit of improvising are still not ready for business. They will keep struggling and they may never make it. I have seen them many times. They end up saging Agriculture is waste of time. They come online askimg for government bail out and incentives. They move from one business to another. Today it is pig, tomorrow cassava and next tomorrow cucumber. And they aren't making profits.

Even they try to substitute pvc pipes for drip. I do not understsnd such act.

Bro, i am not saying you are like that but I am just writing what is common among farmers.

It will be too much stress on me to write about materials here. Please check https://www.nairaland.com/4148771/in-depth-practical-knowledge-aquaponics

Pictures? I am.not that kind of person who posts pictures of our projects online like that for security reasons. And since I do not have the intention of selling anything to anyone, I do not feel compeled to do so..The structures are normal high tunnels which are here in this forum. Pictures cannot show difference in quality. So, i am sorry about that.
Thanks very much for your insights and your time. I have been enlightened.
