It's like Dangite is about to open another refinery in Ile-Ife, hence the sudden praise or Ooni, when there are several traditional rulers and even emirs in the North.

He once said that Ooni settled a traditional issue which was causing delay in the building of the refinery for him easily. It showed Oonis capacity as the spiritual head in Yoruba traditional matters.

This is my post from April 9th.

This is from my memory of two very old interviews. My memory isn't 100% (because the interviews took place a long time ago) and I remember Hamzat's interview better than I remember Tinubu's interview.


Dr Obafemi Hamzat granted an interview to a radio station just after he became deputy governor. That's when a confusion in my head was cleared up.

They asked him questions about everything imaginable. I remember that they also focused on flooding, because it was the Rainy Season. Dr Hamzat told them what he did to fight flooding during the Fashola Era (remember that he was commissioner of works and he was involved in designing the drainages). He spoke very well about the specifics of governance.

He also spoke about how he came to work for the Lagos State Government.

He was head of IT at several major banks in New York and the Lagos State Government was considering adopting several IT systems (payroll management, etc) and he was in his bank's team that met with Governor Bola Tinubu in New York in 2001. After the meeting Tinubu asked him, "Which Hamzat"? Let me explain that question.


Dr Hamzat's father was a lawmaker during the Second Republic (Jakande Era). He was still active in politics during the Third Republic (NRC vs SDP). He was one of the people that convinced Bola Tinubu to leave Mobil and get involved in politics. In fact, he was one of Tinubu's political mentors in the early 1990s. That's why Tinubu asked, "Which Hamzat"?

When he found out who he was, Tinubu put a lot of pressure on Hamzat to return to Lagos and work for him, but Hamzat resisted. He was making a lot of money on Wall Street, why would he leave that and return to Lagos?

Eventually Hamzat realised that, as a foreigner, there was a limit to how high he could rise on Wall Street, so he returned to Nigeria and became head of IT at OANDO.

Tinubu eventually had his way because Hamzat became the commissioner for science and technology in Tinubu's cabinet.

I have previously told you that the payroll system was archaic when Tinubu became governor. Ghost workers cost the government a lot of money. Tinubu was determined to digitalise all their processes and remove ghost workers. He was also determined to automate their payments systems to eliminate leakages. He leveraged on Obafemi Hamzat's experience and connections in the US and on the experience and connections of one of his classmates at Chicago State University (a Nigerian) who worked at Oracle to adopt software to manage their payroll and payment systems. Dr Hamzat oversaw the adoption of the systems.

Dr Hamzat continued as commissioner for science and technology in Governor Fashola's cabinet, then he took over from Rauf Aregbesola as commissioner for works and housing. Many roads and bridges, including the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge and the Okota-Isolo Link Bridge, as well as housing estates (Lagos HOMS) were built during his tenure.

Dr Hamzat followed his boss (Fashola) in 2015 and he became special adviser to the minister of works and housing.

He wanted to become governor in 2019 and he had a lot of support, but he was convinced to step down and support Babajide Sanwo-Olu in exchange for the deputy governorship position.

He's super qualified for the job! In Lagos, experience and verifiable performance is very necessary.

Like my people will say, "eni tó nwá ìfà, ó nwá òfò".

If you're given this type of yam, wash it very, very well. Cut it and boil or roast without peeling. It's actually healthier that way.

Father Oluoma has always preached peace. He criticises constructively and without insulting anyone. Sadly, his audience are too hardened in their ways to understand. They don't understand politics...just gragra and harassment of opponents and thriving on false narratives. Many people left Obis camp in 2023, especially in Lagos, just because of this. That's why Tinubu lost and Sanwoolu won.

That's the only way they know and believe in. Fighting unnecessary battles instead of expressing their opinion and working towards the attainment of their goals sensibly. 2027 is around the corner. We'll all learn.

I also remember Yinka Craig and Patrick Oke on Newsline before Frank Olise (always asking"Do you know where your children are?" at 9pm on Sunday) took over from them.

If the child is still very young, you're better off leaving him/her with the Mum. Besides, under the law, below a certain age, the Mum is expected to have custody but you'll have access to the child. Especially during holidays.

Maybe you should formalise custody legally or through arbitration.

You can try The Justice Court under Justice Funmi Asaolu. They're very effective.

Abibatu Mogaji was never a Tinubu nor did she marry a Tinubu. Tinubu name is of Egba origin. Amoda adopted the name cos it sounded unique and different.

The NAHCO shares that I bought during IPO has yielded bountifully. Ditto for some others. Of course, some went down but for those who know how to manage stocks, the net effect will always be good in the long term. You have to know when and what to sell or buy to avoid huge losses.

It's wise to have a varied investment portfolio. Shares, money market funds, landed properties and others.

Lord please comfort and strengthen this lady. Give her a double portion of your blessings and glorify your name in her life.

This is so shameful. Even market and transport levies should bring in some revenue. The LGs have specific areas of control for revenue generation. We really need to focus more on the LGs.

Obviously funds collected get paid in to private pockets. Are there no financial reports required? Don't we have Auditors?

The LGs can impact most positively and quickly on citizens if more efforts are made to ensure that they work as they should.

Even CWAY can't be trusted? Lord deliver us from evil people hell bent on destroying us all.

How could they be next door neighbours and family members yet Tinubu did not know his uncle who was helping him to open accounts was a narco-dealer?
Let's not forget Tinubu himself claimed in an interview that he was earning so much as a treasurer with Mobil as the source of his funds. In another interview, he claimed he was responsible for ending his family's poverty. Now how come suddenly the same poor family is wealthy enough to have millions of dollars that can't be from Tinubu's legit earnings?

If he indeed said that, it must be another family root, not the Tinubu/Abibatu Mogaji families. They've always been rich.

All those who were laughing and recording the unfortunate incident deserve to be arrested. Heartless and wicked people. No consideration at all for mental health issues.

Not really. What is required is manufacturing alongside a reliable distribution network as is done by most big companies.

We made a mistake when the government allowed a free flow of imported goods. Both strong and fledgling local industries closed down due to the unfair competition sometimes against substandard products. Some thriving industries in the 70s were Dunlop, Michelin, Isoglass, Odutola tyres, Adebowale Electrical manufacturing company, (Debo fridge et al), textile/garment companies, Aiyepe lace factory, battery factory at Isolo then etc
