If Yahaya didn't commit the alleged offence, all he needs to do is to show up and prove his point. It's the usual routine for Ex Governors. Fayose, Obiano and many others have been there.

Hi peeps, I will be traveling to oyo state for friends wedding and I'm scared of my safety over there. I will be checking into a hotel for the period of time I'm gonna be there so what's the security situation like over there in Oyo state .

I am a Lagos Indigine and never been to oyo state .

Advice on the security situation in Oyo state please as you all know that Lagos and Oyo state aren't the same.

Thanks

Ibadan is safe. Check into a reputable hotel in the upscale areas. Nest in Bodija is nice. Quiet area too. It depends on the location of the event though.

I visit Ibadan frequently. Going by train is safe and convenient if you're not going with your car.

The good thing is that it's not just about price enforcement but about the fake and repackaged expired products. So scary these days especially drugs.

So you mean throughout his tenure as governor he hasn't build or renovated any school shocked
If all the school were well maintained beforehand why would he need to keep rehabilitating??...since the past government are the best they ought to have done it all I guess.. everyone will do there bit, you don't expect some sort of miracles..the agbowo complex abandoned since when?..complex that has been moribound since how many years now??...do you just say the terminal doesn't have any meaning?..omg

GSM hasn't done well in education...at least in Secondary education that I'm aware of. He should have built on Ajimobi's initiative that brought about a sustainable means of funding and managing the schools for progress. They had governing boards which comprised of all stakeholders including old students who contributed immensely financially and intellectually to uplift their schools. Seems GSM stopped that without providing a better option. The teachers are quiet as in "e no concern me" and parents are happy having "free education ". Students were paying 1000 per term under Ajimobi to take care of basic expenses.

Oyo is really an ancient city
No single new structure
Aluminium zinc roofing everywhere

That is the old Ibadan city which is centuries old. It's where you have the ancient family compounds. Gate and Bode as the name implies for instance marked the end of town on both extremes. Ibadan is so much bigger now which modern settlements surrounding the old city.

What has happened to the other former governors arrested over fraud? Maybe I'm not aware of the cases though.

He should show up and prove his innocence.

Not so strange in a country where there's amnesty for criminals for whatever reasons.

When we stop importing fuel, we'll have lower demand for forex. Hopefully, there'll be no need to defend the Naira massively thereafter so that our reserves can rise again.

That woman in a sane country cannot be a graduate. But the pastor was wrong to disgrace her in public

True but we have intelligent Professors who don't speak very good English. One's background matters. The problem is mainly with our elementary education especially the public schools outside urban centres.

A lawyer should communicate in good English nonetheless.

Yawn….

Minimum wage then was 80 naira a month.

So that list doesn’t prove anything.

Children posting rubbish.

Back then those prices were expensive for the common man.

Even in the 1980s, my pocket money for a whole semester at university was 500 naira, and it was more than enough for everything including catching cruise, shacking beer everyday etc..

500 naira bursary covered school fees, accommodation and feeding for a session for indigent students. Accommodation was 90 naira, meal ticket booklet for 3 meals a day was 45 naira for a month. No tuition fees.

Some people are surprised. Well, salary for fresh graduates in the early 80s was usually between 4000 to 6000 naira per annum depending on the sector. That comes to about 300 naira plus per month, so spending 100 naira on basic items is in order. A gallon of Kings oil was about 3.50 naira around that time for instance.

SMH. So, a few ignorant fellows standing with guns and charms in front of the Secretariat and Governor's office in Ibadan is her idea of taking over power. No referendum, no consultations, no effort to work with our lawmakers towards devolution of powers/restructuring etc.

Prof. Akintoye who is the authentic leader of the group has stated many times that separation can't be done violently. Even Igboho understands that.

JASONjnr:
You know that in Nigeria, if you go with a child to church and the moment the church becomes quiet, the children will start crying or distract or disturb the people.

I believe there's no children section and you're not allowed to give your child an intimidating look of warning.

Giving them tablets or headsets is to keep them calm and concentrated on whatever is on their ears or on the tablet.

I believe the whites finds solution better than we Africans with fire approach.

The kids will grow in know the church. As far as they are taken to worships.

In Nigeria, there's usually Sunday School for kids and Youth Church for teenagers within the premises. They are taught the scriptures and engage in activities relevant to their ages.

I still have fond memories of my years in Sunday School. A good foundation in learning about God.

My dear, it’s very sad cos ppl are dying on a daily basis and the government is looking away from it. I shuffle between Egbeda and IKEJA and I can categorically tell you that 99% of all the soft drinks I’ve been buying from shops are all fake and at costly prices, the worst part are the alcoholic drinks especially in Egbeda… 98.99% of the drinks sold in Egbeda are all fake believe me.
Why can’t these people go there and lock their shops and make some arrests because these people are killing innocent lives.
Babe, I’m really sad about these whole thing and that’s why some Nigerians are running away not just because of the bad economy but because of their lives.

Na poor man take risk pass for this life, a daily life of a poor man na risk.
Imagine those flung out of the bus and straight into the lagoon and the injured ones, took a risk by entering a bad vehicle that’s not road worthy. Yet they collect (owomida) from them and don’t care about the people.

I understand you perfectly. It's most disheartening. Now I'm really careful about where I buy things but one is never so sure.

I think NAFDAC truly needs more staff so they can have units in all Local Government offices at least, where complaints can be lodged. That way, response is quicker and the criminals know that they're under watch.

If you have any complaint, another option is the Consumer Protection agency. The one in Lagos in particular is quite effective. They've closed down some supermarkets for selling fake or expired items.

The government has it's faults but we the people need
to do better. Selling fake products is not too far from premeditated murder. Very wicked people indeed.

Of course, they are deluded Yorubas. How anyone thinks going to the Secretariat automatically means a takeover baffles me. Abi edi ni? Doesn’t make any logical sense. Hard lessons for other violent agitators.Like Prof Akintoye keeps telling those who are interested, there are peaceful ways of achieving their goals (assuming the people are truly interested.)

Honestly IBEDC service delivery is disgraceful. I've rarely seen light on my visits to Ibadan in the last 2 years. Always solar/inverter or generator in most areas.

So sad that necessary precautions were not taken and it appears that emergency rescue facilities were not in place or ineffective. Ordinary life jackets would have made a difference. Also prompt attention when Junior Pope was still alive. It's more painful because this was avoidable.

May their souls rest in peace.

I wonder if the parents followed them to the jetty and allowed them to board this rickety canoe like boat without any fear. So much irresponsibility everywhere.

People are so insensitive! All that was required was to have everyone wear life jackets, ensure that the boat is in good shape, consider the westher and have standby emergency rescue service....ambulance, divers etc.
