kenflipper:
While i may agree with, i disagree on the type of fight we need at this age.
Blood fight now will be disastrous to the nation and would neither benefit the country for good or the people. We dont wanna experience what liberia experience where peoples hands and legs are chopped off and left as cripples. What we need is to change our minds into battle fields. Yeah, let our minds do the battle. We could mobilize to vote out the rogues, Yes results can be stolen but overwhelming victories are difficult to overturn, So lets make it difficult for them. And we shouldnt always think of the presidencial election as our sole responsibilities, the local govt chairmanship, senators and governorship elections are more important to us cos' they are the closest to us. If we put the right people there with the right attitude they can checkmate the president thereby giving us better result and the local govt. chairmen and governors are responsible for our day to day local development not Mr. President. Plus dont forget we have one of the strongest military in Africa, which could crack the Niger Delta if they had wanted to, they are only showing brother love, because they themselves understand that d situation there is a shame on the Nigerian govt.
Unfortunately,
12 years has gone down the drain and nothing has changed We have even gone from bad to "worst"

Everything is just wrong with Nigeria.

What really happened to the once promising giant of Africa.

God SAFE us.

Look at them, Savages. All they know about is food food food yet they still look malnourished. There are other fishes that they can fish for but no they chose the endangered dolphins. Fishes that are highly intelligent and shown to be helpful to humans but a average Nigerian think of nothing but his next meal. Chop chop everything yet them nor Dey get sense.
Dolphins are mammals just like humans. They are not fishes.

I think LagosismyHome has some very strong points in her comment. It is not correct that no Americans can do those jobs. There are!
Diversity in workplace enriches it in so many ways that the image of the Data you posted did not reveal to you. There are even organizations in the US that made it a rule that they must employ foreigners on work visas, but not because there are no workers within the US that can do them, even well enough, but because having diverse minds in an organisation makes it strong to compete in and out of its field. You know why? All the people on H1B did not grow up in the US, which means, they have completely different orientation, perspective, insight, different ideas that Americans who grew up in America certainly didn't have--even when pooled in the same field.

Think about Google CEO, then Elon Musk, and other great minds in the tech sector in the US; these people did not grow up in America. I can tell you for a fact, and based on my own personal experience, if Elon Musk had not left South Africa in 1988, his life would have turned differently. The scope of ideas and what you contribute to an organization vision can be limited by where you grow up; a man who spent the first 30 years of his life in Nigeria will not have the same set of ideas, and energy for contribution--which is what drives all these giant organizations that employ people on H1B--if he grow up in America during the same year. Every organizations on earth are aware of this. Why do you think company in Nigeria would go to Indian, China, to look for potential manager, foremen, analyst, etc to fill a position that demands innovation? Because they want diverse workforce at the top rung, for wide and better ideas.

By bringing foreigners to the US to work, these organizations are armed with diverse ideas from diverse people from different part of the world, deepening their root, and and taping into those minds to expand and compete.

For going to the US yourself, your level of knowledge and how you see life and your field has been influenced and expanded, and enriched.
If you are to return to Nigeria after studies for work, you will certainly have some edge over those who never left. What did that tell us? There are certainly Americans that can fill those H1B jobs, but an organization that really wants to expand its scope and influence, and not shrink, but compete in a world that INNOVATIVE IDEAS rule, will NEVER limit its workforce to its country of origin -- or it will suffer a lot of disadvantages. This is why it will be IMPOSSIBLE for Trump to permanently ban H1B visa! He cannot succeed in this area, because any attempt to stop foreign workers from coming to the US to work in those organizations will limit their ability to tap into diverse minds, from different countries, for such organization enrichment. This is how it works!
Please pass me your joint of reasoning.
This is the best post I have read all day.

I wish I can like your post a million times.

You said it all, there is nothing more to say.

Don't be scared bro. I felt scared too. The truth is that these things appear tougher than they are. Don't be discouraged. I advise you to apply for as many scholarships as possible. Regardless of how difficult or competitive they are, many Nigerians have won them. I know a Nigerian PhD student who won the Vanier scholarship of over C$50,000 per year. He's at the University of Alberta. He didn't even make a first class. He was lucky and had a good proposal. If he can do it, you can too. Just be positive and make sure you have all the minimum requirements.

May the odds be in your favour.
Thanks bro

You live in Canada?
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 17 by Deltayankeeboi:
ndoeyopbennet:
If the scholarship is not from within Canada, you shouldn't bother. They hardly recognise those scholarships except if its a scholarship program which was signed with a Canadian university or with the Canadian government. Nigerian Federal Government scholarships may also fly, depending on various factors. I know people who are studying in Canada with TetFund scholarship or other FG initiatives. However, to be on the safe side, you should look for scholarships from within Canada or multinational scholarships.

To get scholarship from within Canada is also not easy. You are expected to be admitted first in some cases before you apply. In other cases, your application for the admission goes together with your application for the scholarship. There are many Provincial scholarship/funding schemes like the OGS (Ontario Graduate Scholarship) and FRQNT (Fonds de recherche du Québec). These scholarships are usually open to all applicants studying in the province but getting them is not easy. You need a superb proposal and you must demonstrate leadership and research potentals. Sometimes, applications go through a university based elimination process before they are forwarded to the main scholarship board. E.g. Lakehead University may screen all applications for the OGS before they are forwarded to the OGS board.

Apart from Provincial scholarships, you also have access to other public or private funded scholarships such as Vanier CGS and Trudeau Scholarship. Both scholarships are highly prized and competitive. You should be ready for the challenge. Best way to get them is to get in touch with previous winners for advice. Another notable private funded scholarship is the Mastercard African scholarship for Masters students from Africa. Many Nigerians have won this one and it's a lot easier to access it if you meet their requirements.

There are others too that you can access but you should search for them online, on the various websites of the universities (the universities usually have a page for scholarships and bursaries on the graduate studies page), and get updates from other students. For instance, the University of Alberta has the QEII fellowship for graduate students. You can only know about this from their website. Some companies or research labs/institutes may be willing to give you scholarships too but you have to mail them and sell your research to them, especially if it aligns with their general aims. Individual Professors can also give you scholarships if you make a case for that.

Do not limit yourself. Try everything you can and you may be very lucky.

Note that my suggestions above are under the assumption that you're going for an academic Masters degree or a PhD. If you're going for other programs, they may not apply to you.
Wow, I feel scared already.

Thanks
Truth is I wanted to use the basis of having a very good undergraduate result to apply for Masters scholarship.

From your experience and all you have said, It actually sounds tougher than I actually thought.

Thanks for the clarification.

It wasn't easy for me too. I got in after a year of initial attempt and I was very lucky. I applied for PhD at some universities in Canada in 2018 but was rejected in ALL of them. I had to use the rest of the year to rethink what went wrong and I believe what I did can be useful to prospective PhD and Masters by research applicants. I finally got 3 fully funded PhD offers in my second attempt. I had to select the one with the best offer.

1. Do not write like a Nigerian. This is kind of hard but you should know that the language of Nigerian research is not the typical language of research in the Western world. This is very important when you write your proposal/statement of program. You should try to read as many successful proposals as you can and then model yours after them. The implication of this point is that you should be mindful of your expressions, research interests, how your present your work/structure, etc. Locate the page that lists current graduate students on the department's website and mail current students. Ask them questions about the programme, the admission process, the Professors you can contact and most importantly, ask them to send you their proposals. You can also read the chapter one of recent theses from the department via their online theses repository.

2. If you're applying to thesis-based programmes, you should focus on a concrete research plan rather than personal stories of how you grew up in poverty or how you've always dreamt of studying in Canada and so on. Those personal tales are not necessary for research based programmes. You may probably start with a personal anecdote or motivation for your work but leave it there and concretize your research plan by detailing research questions, gaps in scholarship, purpose of proposed work, methodology, theories to be used, anticipated findings, and if possible, a short working bibliography.

3. You should establish contact with prospective supervisors as early as possible. Many of them select their students months before applications commence. This means that some supervisors already have candidates 3-4 months before application portals are opened. This is why they ignore other mails. If you want to apply to a thesis programme by September, start mailing prospective supervisors by January or February. Introduce yourself politely and attach your CV, transcript, and a short proposal. Make sure the email is customised and, if possible, draw connections between the supervisor's research and what you want to do. Try and leave a very strong impression.

4. Do not limit yourself to one school. Apply to as many as 5 or 6 schools. Initiate contacts with supervisors from a wide range of schools and then apply to the ones where you have supervisory confirmation. Note that some departments do not require you to get a supervisor before application. You should always confirm this on the department's website or with the Graduate Programme Coordinator. In any case, apply to many schools. Sometimes, the gamble can pay off and you'll get into more than one school.

5. Always emphasise what the department can offer you. Since resources are small and the applicant pool is large, you have to establish how your research "fits" into the department. Many departments have peculiar interests or focus. For instance, Carleton University's Department of Linguistics may focus on generative linguistics whereas University of Alberta's Department of Linguistics may focus on historical linguistics. You should always confirm this through the staff profiles and strengths. You can also ask the Graduate Programme Coordinator for confirmation.

The 5 points above will only be useful if you have good university grades (strong 2:1 or first class). Your last two years in school are very important.

Feel free to ask further questions.
Please can you talk more on external organization/government scholarships.
