Assalamu Alaykum,

Ibn `Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days.” (Bukhari)

Pretty strong words huh? So when are these 10 days that the Prophet (PBUH) is referring to? They are the first 10 days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah.

Concerning the types of worship to be performed during these ten days, one must understand that these 10 days are a great blessing from Allah, which is appreciated properly by the righteous persons. It is the Muslim’s duty to appreciate this blessing and seize the opportunity, by devoting these ten days to paying more attention to striving hard in worship. Among His blessings to His servants, Allah has given us many ways in which to do good and worship Him, so that the Muslim may be constantly active and consistent in his worship of his Lord.

Okay, so what we should we do?

1- Fasting the first 9 days: The Prophet (pbuh) urged us to do good deeds during this time, and fasting is one of the best of deeds. If a person cannot afford to fast all nine days, he may at least fast the ninth day of Dhul-Hijjah, which is known as the Day of `Arafah. The Prophet (pbuh) is reported to have said: “Fasting on the day of `Arafah expiates (removes) sins of two years, the past year and the future year.” However, it is also worth mentioning that while fasting the first nine days of Dhul-Hijjah is recommended, it is forbidden to fast during the days of the `Eid (the 10th, 11th and 12th days of the month).

2- Extra Worship: Scholars have stressed that the days and nights of Dhul-Hijjah must be set aside for intensive dedication to worship, increased preoccupation with virtuous acts, and contemplation. Virtue and contemplation go hand in hand in Islam. Works that are especially worthy of mentioning include reading the Qur’an; making dhikr [saying “subhan Allah” (glory be to Allah), “al-hamdu lillah” (all praise to Allah), “Allahu Akbar” (Allah is Greatest), and “la ilaha illa Allah” (there is no god but Allah)] and du`aa’; performing non-required prayers; sending benedictions on the Prophet (pbuh); rendering acts of kindness and compassion; visiting the sick; counseling what is good and forbidding what is wrong; bringing peace, reconciliation, and harmony among people; helping those who are in distress or need; showing dutifulness to parents; maintaining the ties of kinship and so on. While all of these works are to be active concerns of all Muslims every single day of their life, these must certainly be multiplied in these days more than any other time.

3- Performing Hajj and `Umrah: One of the best deeds that one can do during these ten days is to perform Hajj to the Sacred House of Allah. The one whom Allah helps to offer Hajj to His House and to perform all the rituals properly is included in the words of the Prophet (pbuh): “An accepted Hajj brings no less a reward than Paradise.”

4- Sacrifice: One of the good deeds that will bring a person closer to Allah during these ten days is offering a sacrifice.

5- Sincere repentance: One of the most important things to do during these ten days is to repent sincerely to Allah and to give up all kinds of disobedience and sin.

NB, today, the 19th of November is the 1st day of Dhul hijjah

I was young when i heard the story of a bus preacher who during the course of his action quoted Qur'an 1 vs 11. luckily there was some1 in the bus who knew that chapter 1 has only 7 verses. This is one of your ploits against Islam but i wonder if your religion allows you to lie if only in the way of your 'lord'. Most of them cannot otherwise they would have a nervous breakdown . . . that is why it is highly discouraged for muslims to ask questions. Cus their leaders know that the more questions they ask the more they would lose their muslim faith cus the more they would realise that something is fundamentally wrong with islam.

Catholicism also does not like catholics to ask questions . . . so do not be suprised that islam is also doing the same.

Its astounding that muslims do not realise that there was no quran during the time of mohammed and that after his death. . . there were many different versions of the quran that had to be destroyed so as not to make islam look confused.

THe second caliph after the prophet was challenged in public by a woman. if muslims do not ask questions? how on earth would they av bn able to challenge their leaders. There was the Glorious Qur'an during d lifetime of the prophet but it wasnt in a compiled form in the form of a book @ d time. D compilation came after his death

THe Qur'an was revealed to the prophet who taught it to the pple @ His time,they memorised it and taught it to others after them who also memorised it and passed it on in its pure form.The only differences were in the accent of the recitation. This is the very big reason the Qur'an is without alterations.

The pilgrims are just typical Nigerians who out of frustration act in violent ways. We can blame the Saudi authorities as expected but we may also start to think they could have acted due to previous experience with Nigerians. Well, d'rs no big deal in entertaining Abu with Abu's money. pastor Adeboye is just a good businessman using money to make money. its a matter of packaging his brand which could mean more worshippers, more donation, more PROFIT. No wonder more churches are springing up daily

Nigerians can never stop to amaze me. They do not appreciate anything Nigerian to the extent of including their sisters ,cousins ,aunts,mamas, What a shame. Inter tribal marriages are good but is not a show of some people's superiority to others. Do people of other nationalities not marry Nigerian girls?

It doesnt matter what she went to the hospital for. The main issue is that she lost her life due to someone's negligence and that person must be held accountable.
It is sad though that such things happen in this country and the culpable doctors are not brought to book.

I have heard of instances where doctors are brought to book in Nigeria. I think the problem with that is people dont know such exists and dont know how to seek it

Fasting starts from two hours after meal until 12 hours after. Anything beyond this is Starvation. And so, muslims have been fasting while you have been starving yourselves thinking you were fasting.

No one's action is a disgrace to Islam.Although the wrong and right are stipulated and are expected to be followed, the laws of punishment and reward exist because the almighty knows there would be offenders.

Wether during ramadan or not, fornication is a GREAT sin in Islam. your girlfriend will have to fast for sixty consecutive days or feed sixty people as atonement for breaking the fast with this act. She should ask for forgiveness and stop fornicating. If she can't she should get MARRIED.

If you can believe a man who claims to be a prophet from God that has no qualms about having inapproriate sexual relationships with little girls, i don't see an reason why you should have bproblems with saint Paul. There is nothing contradictory in paul's teachings and the gospel of christ. I would be willing to explain to you further if you genuinely wish to know the truth.

When i started reading the post, i thought it was cool the way you answered the questions even to abusive comments but suddenly it changed with this and i realised you were not so saintly as it seemed, and you are only being human.
