Apart from shoring up AD. Israel is confused and in a difficult situation as things stand. They don't want to start a war with Iran while they are still battling Hamas, Hezbollah and other lesser proxies in the region it will be too much for them. Another thing is they see this as a rare opportunity to strike Iranian nuclear facilities which they can't destroy totally without the help of America and America is not ready for that. Striking Iranian nuclear facilities could have the opposite effect making Iran go for the bomb which Israel does not want. Lastly they don't know what an Iranian response could be if they retaliate while still fighting Hamas and Hezbollah.

This is a very difficult situation for Israel and only US can help them out even US does not want things to escalate beyond this cause of its own interest in the region and the effect of a conflagration that would affect global economy. Iran calculated its move very well.

Biden hailed the continuation of the base on Diego Garcia — the largest island in the chain — which was notably used during the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. The base is used by US long range bombers and ships.

“I applaud the historic agreement and conclusion of the negotiations,” Biden said, adding that the site “plays a vital role in national, regional, and global security”.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said he spoke to his Mauritian counterpart Pravind Jugnauth, who later said that the deal showed how a small country can “win justice against major powers”.

“Today, 56 years after our independence, our decolonisation is complete. Now our national anthem can sound out even louder across our territory,” he added.

I celebrate with Mauritius especially the Chagosians but the independence is not complete if Diego Garcia is still being used as US and UK joint military base.
