As for me, am planning on venturing into sales of building materials. This construction work is "work today no work tomorrow". There's need for steady income. If I don't succeed with the business I might go into civil service + construction.

@VICTORTRY: You're most welcome. The key is diversifying one's portfolio & have at least 2-4 streams of income personally & professionally to survive. I plan to write an article about it for posterity sake of future architects. Architecture is an art,science & a business. The Nigerian curriculum in many ways is somewhat rigid & not dynamic so thinking outside the box is a must.

@VICTORTRY: Your observation is very correct & it didn't just start now in the last 9years to this day it's just been a downward spiral. The discipline is no longer a straight jacket one. All I advise is for you to have options career-wise aside;main architecture from interior design,landscape architecture,signage design,graphics design,furniture making,comic creation to animation to supplement one's income. Yes those who are very connected will always get the jobs but just be good at what you do & clients will still come. Just make sure you still write the NIA exams to become chartered eventually,best regards...

Let's see this from a humanitarian point of view,some don't have money to go to any proper schools to learn but can for free via the internet . Thereby increasing the human capital of the creative industry in Nigeria. It's well with us all as long as keep improving we'll get there...

Derrick, most Nigerians wouldn't want you to know what they know and even the ones who hold seminars and tutorials do not teach all they know, thereby hiding one or two vital infos to still be above you. For the accent, I don't think it stops anyone from sharing a tutorial so far you can speak an understandable English with good points to go home with.

@VICTORTRY: From my little experience,I've come to realise the easiest ways to learn anything quickly & memorise is when done in front of you via one-on-one tutorials or online depending on the available options.

#Question(1)
You felt there's no need for such videos from your response. It's very reason why the western world doesn't believe we use apps like AutoCAD & etc because they believe in seeing how the steps were done before the final work that's posted even computers. It's called proof of concept. If not for the handful of Nigerian artists like those ones I mentioned earlier on Youtube who shared tips,advice & video tutorials with me in person I wouldn't know what I know. You never know the people such videos give confidence to pick an interest in architecture to study it or creative disciplines related you might share. Contrary to what you think brands like Autodesk,Adobe & Microsoft's global mission was to reach most countries if not all so Africa wasn't excluded. It's a tradition to always update the versions of any software package every week,month or year so it's for us to either step up our pc configs or keep to the present versions without complaining(no be by force). We don't have the culture of buying apps wanting everything free*smh*rotflr*hehehe*Osho Free Masters na our name for Naija abeg...
Contrary to what you stated the video tutorials made for most software or web applications created in Nigeria are solely for their clients who paid for them & not the general public.
Now about training one-on-one isn't a bad idea but I've come to realise most training centres except a few don't go in-depth but only after the money. So for me we aren't really good at that because most of their fees aren't so affordable except you do it as a student or corper if there's such a concession of grace. With the internet you've a wider reach to an audience to learn as one progresses from a rookie to expert & with Google as an online resource nothing to fear per se.

#Question(2)
Accents play a big part in what we learn & listen to. If you can't connect then the information isn't useful to you. I've a lot of respect for the #Indians because they used IT & creative knowledge to improve their country's wealth & relevance globally. We similar to them but barely share what we know over here. The 2nd #industrial revolution is via the internet,social media,digital marketing,blogging & e-commerce. The choice is left to us to plugin & play our parts respectively...

I don’t see having a channel showing illustrations by a Nigerian a way of boasting confidence among budding creatives. We generally operate in ways that it wouldn’t come to mind that I or you need to create an illustrative online tutorial because:
We feel we haven’t known the software enough. Whereas we can pick a portion of we are so familiar with and make them into uploadable illustrative online videos and on …. But someone else have treated these cases so there’s no need doing them over again else, people will think am just another attention seeker.
We think it is easier to make online tutorials for a software that is indigenously made. Example is a software made by and in Nigeria might have a lot of online tutorials from Nigerians. But we believe these softwares are made in the west so people from there have more know-how at their fingertips, “that’s why the internet is flooded by tutorials made by them.
We are not catching up with the west at all because softwares made reach this part of the world after say “version X” has been used and dumped. A new version emerges and they release version X for free download and that is what we are able to afford.
We prefer to make tangible money (those people making those online video tutorials make money oo). We prefer to advertise, fix a fee, gather people and teach them. That’s what we are good at.

I don’t think it has anything to do with the accent. Some tutorials are volume-less. Psychologically, the learner’s focus is on what he is able to comprehend and practicalize at the end of the tutorials he/she is watching.

Keep up the habit of freestyling. A fair attempt I just advise you mix up the colours & tone those green colours down seriously*lol*The National Anthem of Nigeria was humming in my head*hehehe*winks winks*

Am curious I know when browsing through youtube.com & vimeo.com for free videos online we barely see tips shared by Nigerians. I only know about 3studio channels in Nigeria that do such professionally. Namely the following: (1) Chronos Studeos (2) Ways Studios (3) Edu Shola. They share a mix of architecture,video editing effects & 3d graphics more for intermediate or advanced users. Presently there is none dedicated to teaching basic stuff in AutoCAD,Revit,3dsmax,Photoshop,SketchUp Pro,ArchiCAD & 2d/3d general skills from the scratch.
Now to you all on this thread my questions are below:

I advise you learn more about Autodesk Revit & 3dsmax,SketchUp Pro and Adobe apps like Photoshop,Illustrator,InDesign,Premiere Pro & After-Effects.

Am sorry, I didn't observe protocols. Am a student of federal university of technology, yola( now modibbo adama uni. of tech. yola). I have developed keen interest in making 3d models. Softwares am proficient in are AutoCAD, Archicad and Atlantis studio. this thread is a nice one. shout out to all those on it.

I think the resource problem is more of artistic than electricity. Electricity is not cheap anywhere. Now, u stil need programmers & i‘m not talkin website builders. If d man power is here, putting up a game would b more cost efficient but if u hv to bring ppl from abroad then costs r going to b on a whole new level. So d real problems are getting the right artists and coders. Power can be worked around especially now dat u hv solars n inverters.
