CareerRe: A Thread For Architects And Aspiring Architects. by DerrickM(m): 8:33pm On Dec 11, 2015
No problemo,it happens. The thing is SketchUp Pro is better used for already agreed upon plans & specifications with the client with few modifications. In this AEC industry where clients change their minds on the smallest whim Revit & ArchiCAD must be known. BIM is the future because it saves time in meeting crazy deadlines. Knowing how to model in AutoCAD or SketchUp Pro is a bonus but Revit or ArchiCAD must be explored by all architects. People want the easy way to 3d ArchViz but the more technical BIM apps do the trick. It's just like how Naija people prefer CorelDraw & CorelPaint over Photoshop,Illustrator and InDesign because the former is easier to use for Graphic Design than the latter but the difference is so clear in the output always. Even in web design it's the same problem. Technical know how always wins.

CASTOSVILLA:
I must agree, I went over the edge there.lol. I had an experience at Unizik Awka sometime and we argue about this SketchUp. They seem to have falling in love with it so much that most of them can't see through Archicad and Revit. They totally told off both softwares like they were for armatures.lol. All drafting softwares are good but we need to spot the difference.
CareerRe: A Thread For Architects And Aspiring Architects. by DerrickM(m): 7:00pm On Dec 11, 2015
All am saying don't write any app off just like that in favour of the preferred app you use i.e ArchiCAD research more on it just like you did version 19. All apps need plugins some more than the other like SketchUp Pro. Am not an ArchiCAD user because I prefer Revit Architecture/MEP/Structure but I won't write it off just because I don't use it*lol*Just stay open, bro, that's all*winks winks*

CASTOSVILLA:
Brother I do understand that Gsketchup has good plug-ins, especially the VRay wonder but in terms of indepth drafting of designs with a software that offers every bit of tool to get almost every architectural and engineering components of a building (let's put the shiny renderings aside here). Can SketchUp do that? Go read up about the new Archicad 19, it has the ability to help you rebuild an already existing house just with the picture of it's present look. Talk about what one can do to a wall, roof etc. SketchUp has draft limitations, forget about the beautiful renderings cos with same engines you can get same renderings with Revit, Archicad and co. I still stand on the word "Quick" cos that is what it's all about, making sharp sharp designs for sharp sharp presentations.
CareerRe: A Thread For Architects And Aspiring Architects. by DerrickM(m): 1:11pm On Dec 11, 2015
Nice 3d post, love the scenery and signage design. When you upgrade to 3dsmax using VRay, the difference will be greater.

Check out some other works from hardcore VRay users: Chronos Studeos (www.chronos-studeos.com), 3dmatic Atelier (www.3dmaticatelier.com), Ways Studios (www.waysstudios.com) and Cleec Designs (https://www.behance.net/okolieuchechukwu)

That is why it is hot demand...

CASTOSVILLA:
This is nice, in as much as I don't use Revit for my 3d modeling, Archicad + Artlantis works fine for me. Am still gonna learn this 3d max vray though.
CareerRe: A Thread For Architects And Aspiring Architects. by DerrickM(m): 12:51pm On Dec 11, 2015
Nope, that's before what i used to think. SketchUp Pro has plugins that allow it to create more complex structures of designs, modelling cars and other objects.

Visit my friend Dadi Dindul's likepage Ludnid (https://www.facebook.com/ludnidviz/?fref=ts)

Before i knew him,his works inspired me to want to learn SketchUp Pro 4years back. His workflow is SketchUp Pro,3dsmax using VRay Render and post-production in Photoshop.

CASTOSVILLA:
I like the word "Quick". I believe that it can't be used for creating complex designs like we do with Revit and Archicad.

Art, Graphics & VideoRe: Please RATE This 3D Drawing A Nairalander Drew On A Scale Of 1-10 by DerrickM(m): 10:27pm On Dec 07, 2015
In all honesty, this drawing can't be rated by me because it isn't a 3D picture in the 1st place. This is just a 2D drawing of an earphones connected to a small phone with you experimenting with shade & shadow for chrissakes.
Please go read up,google & understand the difference between the two forms of visualisation seriously before posting your drawings again.
*2D is just a flat plane of sight showing just length and breadth while
*3D shows length, breadth and depth or volume of an object like it would in real life.
Please find attached a 2D Sketch of XMen's Wolverine and a 3D Visualisation of a MiniRoom...The Difference is clear like 7Up...

aloa3:
After seeing a guy on nairaland, who drew a 3D pic of a hole,I felt challenged and decided to test my drawing skills,so I went online and drafted a 3D pic,and drew it even in the absence of some resources like eraser, sharpener, and in a span on 7minutes I drew this,so nairalanders on a scale of 1-10 what would u rate my 3D drawing...

Good to see a thread like this,I just randomly searched for Maxwell Render & voila i got here as my top result.
I'm an architect & graduate of FUTA(1st/2nd degree) who loves 3D visualisation amongst other creative endeavours.
Here are some my random 3d works modelled in either AutoCAD & Revit but rendered in 3dsmax Design using VRay,enjoy the visuals*winks winks*

CareerRe: A Thread For Architects And Aspiring Architects. by DerrickM(m): 11:25am On Dec 07, 2015
You are correct up to a point,a slight correction SketchUp Pro is still in high demand even on the island in Lagos especially for quick interior design/archy visualisations & concept presentation.

CASTOSVILLA:
Today, computers are of rampant use when it comes to Architectural drafting. Software like Autocad, Archicad and Revit are more prevalent compared to google sketch up, chief architect etc.

Ok,I get you're trying to be original. I too can do that atimes but I just come to realise using visual references keep the art in one's mind's eye to draw many times later on without looking at anything. Like this example of someone's home studio wall posters surrounding the artist for inspiration from comics to architecture etc.

rotlan:
Funny enough @derrick, I don't use reference for my drawings. I love coming up with drawings based on what concept I am able to imagine at a particular point in time. I don't use pictures to draw. @polarbite, I don't understand what you mean by "badboy". What I do? grin
On a serious note tho, is there a way polarbite can modify the tittle of this thread so other comic/ creativity enthusiasts can come in and contribute. It has only been u, me and Derrick.

Art, Graphics & VideoRe: HELP! Is There Any COMIC ARTIST In Ibadan? by DerrickM(m): 1:29pm On Dec 05, 2015

Art, Graphics & VideoRe: HELP!!! With Yearbook Layout Design by DerrickM(m): 8:15am On Dec 05, 2015
For your yearbook I advise you use Adobe Photoshop to clean up pictures or add effects to them & InDesign for the final print layout. There are lots of free videos on www.youtube.com or www.vimeo.com.
Quark Express and PageMaker are the Adobe old apps that preceded Illustrator & InDesign. For the proper history & function of any software check google & wikipedia. Best Regards

Yes, there are mostly online via facebook but only 2 I know have physical offices in Lagos (Animation West Africa Foundation and ComicPanel). Yeah am not there yet, bro. Still studying the major styles of painting digitally as much as I can. Get Internet Download Manager(IDM) to download the free videos of Proko because that guy covers the fundamentals of drawing for a layman to understand. If you want to go pro #badass that's the way & get videos on digital painting using Photoshop,Illustrator or SketchBook Pro.
Am compiling links on drawing traditionally & digitally to post online say for nextyear. When I've done that I'll post it here.

Salute to everyone, pls I av a question for the gurus here, I am not able to use the 'Liquify' tool under filter...it keeps popping up a msgs that says turn on the GPU blah balh blah, n when I get to the preference to to dat it will be grayed out. This issue has been buggling me so much cos I often find myself needing to use the liquify tool for my designs. So what to u think is actually the cause? n how do I solve the problem? Wow,that's exactly what most guys tell me just to paint up digitally not draw. I bought it for both actually & it's fun for me*winks winks*Also try getting Sakura pens for traditional inking.

rotlan:
You're so right bro. Switching to digital was.....mehh..lol. But as soon as I got a hold of the different pen thickness, pen ink color and air brush on sketchbook, it became so easy and fun. Been using wacom just for digital painting never tried drawing with it but it was cool trying my hand on it.
