Elliotwiz1: where did you keep your sense of humour? Sighs*
Consult my posts. I believe my sense of humour hardly departs me. At that point, I was representing the 'misinterpreters'.

Elliotwiz1: LMAO, didn't want to, but couldn't resist commenting.... Please ban this fellow for saying the truth....lmfao
It is possible that you just said that like you would even if this debate session didn't involve us. But we wouldn't even be here saying this were it not for his idea. I'll suggest we look before we leap. We're both pioneers here. Any smear touches us. Don't allow people misinterprete your intentions because of a careless comment.

I'll have to say thank you to Fynest for the birth of this wonderful idea.. And also to the hands (co-ordinators and judges) who transformed this idea into reality.. To my fellow debators, my only regret is we couldn't do this live and counter-motion, it'ld have surely given me a lot to learn..magnificient essays all the same, I really couldn't believe I was up there. For the appraisal, criticism and Likes, I'm indebted. And to Ima.. Your encouragement worked loads.. To the top two.. You're magnificient!!.. To Alicia.. How much does a date ticket cost?? *winks*

Obinoscopy: Deschyko both wrote in opposition to the motion that Strike is a wrong approach to solving Nigeria’s Educational problems. They took a rather unpopular stance as it would appear that more contestants were in favor of the motion. Their provision of historical details of the Academic Staff Union of Universities’ (ASUU) strike in Nigeria goes to show that they were well versed on the topic.

However I would say that their work lacked the desired persuasiveness. The two contestants were quick to blame the Federal Government for all the woes betiding the educational sector but they were slow to explaining why strike is a BETTER approach.... Deschyko’s statement that “five out of the nine agreements [between the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Federal Government (FG)] focuses (sic) on the improvement of educational standard and quality in the country” is very apt as it could counter the notion that ASUU embarked on the strike solely for selfish reasons. But he however failed to mention and elaborate on all five agreements. In fact, a lay reader might not even know which group reached the agreement and what the agreement was all about.

However I must not fail to commend both Deschyko and Infoscope’s command of diction, their well sequenced paragraphs and correct spellings. That being said, there is still room for improvement.

So that is my appraisal, folks. I wish all the contestants the best. Let us remember that this competition is not a do-or-die affair. The essence of this debate is not for superiority display but for us to learn from each other and keep our brains busy by engaging in healthy arguments. May the best four make it to the next round. Amen.

Expect more appraisals from the other judges.
Well noted sire.. I hope to benefit greatly from this. I'll also plead that this thread not be moved or deleted for the time being.. I may need to be visiting it at one point or the other for enlightenment. Thank you.

CONTESTANT 16's write up is much in need of some critical evaluation as well. As many as could help with that, it'll be greatly appreciated. Thank You in advance.

Caracta: The judges are not responsible for punctuation errors. The necessary paragraphs and collation of disjointed writeups, yes. Punctuation errors, no.
Just some not all. Like at the point where that of Contestant 16 was joined up, there's this multiple .... which denotes continuation at the end of the first and beginning of the next. It may be mistaken for a 'typo' or misuse of punctuation. No offences meant though.

Aside from via a PC, you can't put a paragraph in place using a mobile device. And some of the punctuation errors were from the dutiful judges, who painstakingly helped re-organize the essays to be compact in a post instead of multiple posts as was sent in.

OMA4U: Elliotwiz: ..You made mention ..Anyway, you're trying to confuse the reader. Job well done!
You've got to persuade the partakers to agree with you. In as much as what he depicted was factual, how the reader perceives it matters not. What matters is the fact worked to his advantage. Or you really think the truth is ultimately revealed in a law suit?? No, instead, the facts are bent to one's advantage.

I don't know about you, but this being an argumentative essay, I wouldn't deviate much, especially to attempt giving the co-debators/audience too much information, one which would get them thinking deep and finding reasons to discredit your logic. It'll be better to narrow the information to only that which favours you, and cannot be disproved without reaching further, hence my decision to stick to ASUU alone, for we all know some strikes are borne out of selfish interests. Were it being an expository essay or a report writing, then an-all round comprehensive detail would be necessary. The first rule of warfare is not to delibrately or indelibrately expose your probable weaknesses.

Talking spiritual will obviously jeopardize the whole argument. For it's like trying to explain the supernatural with human logic. That's almost unacceptable..perhaps to Christians. It'll do well to stick to what can be effectively explained and ultimately proved.

Samtolly4JESUS: That's exactly why we said A genius is a personality with firm sense of direction.

Am sure the sage had the chance to live a vulgar street life. But his firm focus wouldn't just allow that!

Have you seen Ben Carson's Gifted hands?
He generously highlighted his bleak and poor early life.... He had loads of poor result admist the worst of prejudice ..... But once he got his track, he successively manipulated these negative external influences and he rode his way gallantly to ingenuity!
The more you talk about this, the more you'll figure the part spirituality or luck plays in this. And in that case, we're now taking of the grace of the supernatural in the making.. Ever wondered for a moment if Ben Carson was born a century back?? What then?

Tosdam: Thank u my amiable audience, i ve elaborated that going on strike is just like toying with the lives of our future leaders because each time we go on strike the student suffered it.
Picture it this way.. The University is a house. ASUU is the landlord, the lecturers are the children. A tenant is the FG. Another is the SG. The landlord needs his house renovated and the children well catered for. The tenants, whom he's friendly with just wouldn't pay for, say, 4 years now, taking his leniency and mild temperament for a ride. If you were him, how would you approach the situation?
EducationRe: Educational Debate Phase One: Essay Submission [discussion Thread] by DesChyko1(m): 7:52pm On Oct 19, 2013
On that 'Genius' line, I think it's a no-brainer. Genius is more like an 'achieved' title, not one present from birth as though it is hereditary or evolved. I mean, if not for the environment which exposed the individual to such field, how could we have known?? Imagine if Chinua Achebe hadn't the kind of education he did, and actually grew up under his boss who had a shop at Idumota and he was sacked, so he had to live off the streets and end up as a motor park tout. Does the picture your brain paint logically reflect the Chinua Achebe you know today??

Well..little thanks to my poor use of time, but I must say it's killer punches for those guys who saw the broader picture and painted the strike as a general educational issue unlike me. Kind of taught me to take my time. But with all those essays?? Nigeria's got cute brains, really.

All the best.
