Of course, life is somewhat hopeless; we live to die someday. Consciousness is Pain. However, religious Ideologies provide hope. Be it false or not, the hope is real to those who experience it; its their reality.
Though I'm irreligious and poke holes in the Christian doctrine for its many outrageous and unfounded claims, I give it credit for the hope (opium) it successfully provides the hopeless populace. We all need to be happy whether theist or atheist.
