Christianity Etc › Will Secularism Promote Religious Tolerance In Nigeria ? What's Your Opinion. by DeSepiero(op): 12:13pm On Oct 14, 2017 |
Religious intolerance is one of the many problems facing Nigeria today. We often see cases where certain groups of people feel that their religion is superior to the other, or that theirs is true while the other is false. In extreme cases, groups resort to violence in a bid to make their point (e.g Boko Haram, Religious conflicts in Kaduna etc).
In Nigeria, government has always promoted religious activities in one way or the other. Also many conflicts in the country since its inception have had some sort of religious bearing.
Religious tolerance involve our ability to accept, respect and coexist peacefully with other individuals of different religious inclinations.
Do you think secularism holds some prospects in proffering solutions to this problem?
Your honest and civil inputs will be valuable

Christianity Etc › Re: Would Eliminating Religion Improve The World Or Worsen It? by DeSepiero(m): 10:45am On Oct 14, 2017 |
Religion shouldn't be eliminated. Rather, people should practice whichever religion that suites them privately in a way that doesn't negatively influence or deprive others of their fundamental rights. Also governments (state) should remain secular or neutral. Government involvement could cause discrimination and conflicts. |

Christianity Etc › Re: Existence Problems; Urgent Answers Needed by DeSepiero(m): 8:06pm On Oct 08, 2017 |
ABBkelvin: What is the gain of being giving birth to and existing as human being? What is the gain and purpose of living on forever till infinity according to religious followers and their various believe? What is the purpose of existence of living things and non living things? What is the purpose of existence of higher beings or God inclusive incase it exist(excluding theory of evolution here)? Nothing actually make sense to me either we live forever or die and it end there. Whichever question you can answer please do. Thread is open to every human being willing to have an input.
Lalasticlala The cause for a phenomenon (in this case, life / existence) should give insight into its purpose. If you acquire something for which you don't know its owner / original purpose, you either discard it or find a reason (purpose) for keeping it. |

butterflyl1on: So how then is uniformity achieved ? What yardstick is used to measure what is good for one and bad for another?
If we are all humans yet have varied moral positions who then regulates adequately what balance we can have in morality when I can have one moral guide in Nigeria and travel to Cameroon and meet something else that is acceptable to them but disgustingly unacceptable to me.
Where do we agree? Try answering this let me see how it goes? |

Christianity Etc › Re: Atheists And Morality. A Question! by DeSepiero(m): 12:01am On Oct 01, 2017 |
butterflyl1on: Yes seriously! Everyone is from one society or another and [s]each can be said to be a representation of the greater good of that society.[/s]
Should there be wars? But each nation and her individuals are fighting for their greater good probably due to greed or selfishness. Take away these vices, would such wars exist?
If I take the life of one I am taking the life of a greater good to another society. Surely you do not think your society is alone so you? If something brings happiness to a larger population of a society, I can be considered a greater good of such society. That something is a good in that society...further stresses the subjectivity of morality. |

Christianity Etc › Re: Atheists And Morality. A Question! by DeSepiero(m): 11:40pm On Sep 30, 2017 |
butterflyl1on: Does it still not make it murder simply because someone wrote on paper that it's Okay to kill an enemy of state? You may want to make a point straight up because it seems like a rigmarole. Laws are made for the greater good of a society and not necessarily for individual profit. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Atheists And Morality. A Question! by DeSepiero(m): 11:32pm On Sep 30, 2017 |
butterflyl1on: So killing an enemy of the state is not murder because a pen and paper says it's not?
It's not unlawful that you murdered a man because he is seen as an enemy of the state and the law said for such death is allowed. In other words you got a license to kill in a premeditated manner. Soldiers do. |

if those who crave sodomy now lobby and harass the Senate / parliament to make it legal and they do. would you subscribe to it as the latest moral law? This was doctoraliens position A consensus is not arrived at by one person. In a society such a consensus is reached by a senate / parliament. |

If criminal law does not frown at consensual adultery why do we see it as wrong?
Is morality or a lack of no longer based on societal laws? ...because we are individually selfish. When a man decides to have sex with a lady secretly to satisfy his sexual urges, how does that affect anyone else? |
