I need another backend to add to nodejs. I don't think just having nodejs as the only backend language in my stack is sufficient to get a job in today's job market.

What do you recommend between PHP, Python and Java?

I'm a university drop-out and a lot of job listings I've been seen have BSC in computer science or related field as a requirement. Is there hope for me in the job market since I'll be competing with those with degrees?

For your mind now, you have mastered all the languages you posted above , abi? What is “collapsing margin”, what is “stacking context” and what are the different ways to create one? What is “preserve-3d” and what does it do. What is web accessibility? If you can’t answer these questions without googling, then you are still an amateur for frontend. I don’t want to talk about nodejs. Have you gone to nodejs documentation? I am not sure.

I won't answer your useless questions because that's not why this thread was created. If you don't have answers to my questions, then get out of my thread. You are not interviewing me for a job neither are you offering me one.

If you've really cooked yourself with those front-end tools, baba that means you're good to go, except you don't know the power of what you already have, nevertheless, Python is a good backend stack,,,, but try add a bit of PHP too.

From what I've heard Python doesn't have much opportunities outside of Machine Learning and Data science.

Some people say PHP is outdated, others say it's the best for freelancing. This is what confuses me. I don't want to waste my time learning something that won't profit me later on.

I've never been so confused. I don't feel confident entering the job market with just these:

React,
Typescript,
ExpressJs,
NodeJs,
MongoDb
MySQL

I need a good backend tech to add to this stack and I've drilled it down to the trio of Java, Python and PHP.

The reason I need a backend language to add to aforementioned is:

1. To stand out from all the average developers competing with me in the job market.

2. To get good in data structures and algorithms as I don't trust JavaScript to suffice in this aspect.

3. To add to Nodejs when applying to junior jobs locally and abroad.

4. Something to use on side freelance projects while looking for a job.

So I need your help guys. I've searched the internet but I've not been able to get a substantial answer.

Python, Java or PHP?

I started my programming journey two months ago. I've been working harder than I've ever worked in my life. I've spent endless hours pouring through codes while denying myself of all the fun and interesting things I usually do. The goal was to know enough to start applying for remote jobs.

But with the recent tech layoffs, I feel like there is almost no hope for beginners like me cos I will be competing in a job market flooded with experienced, highly skilled FAANG level programmers who just got laid off. What company will hire me when they can hire a genius who has mastered 5 languages and can solve leetcode problems like it's child's play?

I chose the worst time to begin this journey and now I'm very depressed. I haven't even opened my laptop today..

I get quotes from people referring to me as bro, guy and brother. Initially I just ignored, but now it's getting too much. I'm a lady. Stop referring to me as a man.

Never have I stated that I'm a male, but probably because I appear smart, knowledgeable and vocal, people just assume me to be a man. This is insulting. A woman can be all these things and more.

Not every girl wants to bake cake and sell food. Not every girl wants to be a make-up artiste. Not every girl wants to work in the media. I am a girl and I want to be a software developer and I'm working hard everyday to accomplish this goal.

I can't learn one thing from vids

What type of videos have you tried to use?

Most people here are saying books are better than videos because they don't have data or free WiFi access to download large sized videos.

Everything have learnt this past four months is through freeCodeCamp. When it comes to building I use mdn, stackoverflows, css-tricks and sometimes w3schools as platforms for digging deep especially mdn docs. Have never watched a video not like I won't but till I get my PC. And am doing just fine baba, what do you say?

Imagine using books to learn React. Imagine how many months you'd spend still understanding the basic concepts. LMFAO. If you like ignore my advice, at least you will be making the job market less congested.

If you are a beginner, you are free to listen to the clowns who are criticizing me. You are free to use books to learn. The result of this is that your development as a programmer will be slowed down. You will eventually learn what you are reading, but trust me, you'd learn faster using videos.

I'm a beginner yes, but this thread is referring to beginners and as a beginner who is learning I believe I am able to give a decent opinion.

I'm naturally intelligent and a very good researcher. I've downloaded and read everybook suggested on the internet, including the ones suggested on this thread, and I've downloaded every video course recommended on the internet. I've carried out my experiment: I learn 3 times faster using videos.

This is a big lie!! I have been programming for almost 5yrs now and its been reading all the way. Nothing teaches programming like a good book. First, i started with dough lowe, Java programming for dummies, second, deitel deitel and finally Bruce eckel. I used various PDF materials for Spring. If its not reading, its not for me, period.

You'd be 5 times the programmer you are if you invested the time you wasted reading books in learning through videos

The accent gets in to way though, and some of his content is in his native Indian language.

Maximilian schwarzuller is Academind on YouTube. I'm wary of YouTubers with extremely successful tutorials on Udemy. I just feel they might not put as much work into their YouTube videos on those topics.

I don’t know why you put brad traversy there. It depends on what you are looking for in a video. You can’t watch a crash course video and expect to be a pro in that subject. Most of brad’s videos are crash courses. Videos are just introductions to subjects. If you are expecting to learn everything from a videos, you will be disappointed.

Brad Traversy doesn't put any work into his YouTube courses. Anyone who makes crash courses for beginners shouldn't even be taken seriously. Crash courses aren't for beginners.

Brad doesn't teach like he even cares about whether you understand what he is teaching or not. Everything is surface level. Zero depth. Any beginner front end dev who uses his YouTube videos will end up in tutorial hell forever.
