I have a question. Should I focus on frontend or also add a Backend Language like Nodejs. Ive been working with express for few weeks and I'm enjoying it.

The junior developer market is very saturated right now and there are lots of frontend developers looking to get a job. I want to stand out. Also, asides Nodejs what other backend language do you recommend?

Why do you suggest I should leave the backend and focus on the frontend?

Hi guys, it has been a while since I posted here. I have been busy focusing on my journey to become a better programmer. My focus is on the javascript ecosystem: Javascript, typescript, react, nextjs and nodejs: expressjs/nestjs. I have been working my ass off these pasts few weeks.

Last week my boyfriend decided to take a 'break' on our relationship cos he felt I am seeing someone else cos I don't call or visit or ask to go out as I previously used to. I tried explaining that coding is all I have been doing, but he didn't believe me.

It's not just my romantic relationship that is affected. Even my relationship with my friends and family is taking a hit. I rarely leave the house and i have taken a long break from social media. I don't even check my whatsapp status anymore. All I do is lock myself up in my house and code all day.

I am throwing an honest question to fellow programmers:

Is all my hardwork and sacrifice in vain?

Is my focus on the javascript ecosystem; both front and back end a wise decision, given the current market?

I am not just learning to be an average programmer, I want to be one of the best.

Will Chatgpt and the recent layoffs affect my aspiration to get a good job once I am done learning?

Is it better to just make a post, update and delete request after setting up your models, controllers and routes at the backend, then calling the post function within these functions, without having to set up any frontend crud logic?

Is this best practice?

Payoneer is very fast in their services. Usually takes few minutes to few hours to process. I'll personally suggest you also get grey and link it to Payoneer for higher rate.

Which of you should I believe now?

So I just did my first withdrawal to my GTBank account from Payoneer. I used grey in the past but they are having issues currently and things are hard right now and I urgently need money.

The email said I will receive my funds today and the transaction is already completed in my Payoneer dashboard.

I need to use the money today. I got the mail by 9am this morning. What time today should I expect to receive the funds?

Thanks everyone. I've been able to receive it o. God gave me an idea, I checked YouTube for something similar and it worked. I contacted Payoneer customer service that I want to close down the account and collect the money, they now gave me a one time reduced limit to withdraw it all. Their dollar rate was crazy sha. 406naira per dollar at this time that dollar is 600. Thanks so much to everyone who helped

I think you need to give yourself time. I read you are four months in, and for that time frame you seem to be doing amazingly well considering the issues you have posted on here. With picking a stack, there should be no rush as you need enough time to assimilate one material before moving to the next. If the backend is giving you a tough time, let it go for now and come back to it later. Most of what you would be doing on the backend are CRUD operations, authentication and authorization, database management and API creation. Most of these codes are reusable and you just have to tailor them to meet your need. It's easy, just don't stress about it.

Thanks. Would you advise I focus on the front end for now to get a job, or should I learn give myself time and learn the backend before applying for jobs?

This is so me. My advice for you would be to go deep on front end. Learn things like WSAM, webgl, threejs. They are much more intuitive as they involve a lot of maths especially on the frontend.

Please this is a serious thread and I'll appreciate responses.

I've been learning Front-End web development for 4 months now and I've made a lot of progress. Recently I tried to learn some back end with Nodejs, Express and MongoDB just to get some exposure, but I've realized it's not for me at all. Its so boring and I hate every bit of it. It literally puts me to sleep everytime.

I spend hours working on Front end projects and I enjoy every minute of it, but backend is like a chore.

Since it is apparent that frontend is my calling, can I possibly become a successful Front-End developer? Are there really opportunities for beginner frontend devs? I've been told that adding backend languages to your stack improves the possibility of you being hired, but it's clear I hate backend and would hate a job as a backend developer.

What's your advice for me?

If possible, I'll also like to know the in demand skills in those countries.

At this stage, i would suggest you move to a library/framework.

You did a good job but you would have spent a lot of time manually writing every page and hardcoding every variable.

LoL I think being a doctor is so much more difficult than being a programmer. It's just that Nigeria has destroyed the prestige of the medical profession but you can't compare it at all.

Speaking from my own experience, I think coding is harder than Medicine. To be a doctor, just read the textbooks very well and know how to memorize information, then apply that to the giving problem. It's straight forward. If you have at least average intelligence and you study well, you will pass your MBBS exams. There are no gotchas. It doesn't require any exceptional logical skill..

With coding, you can spend months reading documentation, watching tutorials, but when you try to apply what you have learned to a given problem, you realize you don't really know anything. The learning path isn't linear. You will jump from here to there and back again just to understand an aspect of the language you are learning.

Coding is the hardest thing I have ever done. I was once a medical student, then I changed to engineering. I've done pharmacology, biochemistry, thermodynamics. All this pale in comparison to JavaScript, which still entends to other stuff like react, redux, typescript, NODEJS etc.

And JavaScript isn't even the hardest language, there is Java and #C and C++.

Even ordinary CSS that isn't even a programming language can take months to understand and most people never get to understand it, let alone get proficient at it.

Don't believe all the things you read online from people that want to entice you to pay money to learn to code in six months. They are liars. Don't be lured in by the testimonies you read of people getting high paying jobs after learning to code for few months. These are outliers. The majority of those learning to code either give up after few weeks or struggle for many months, even years, before they understand the language.

Coding is hard. It's frustrating, enraging and depressing. You will have to sit at a place staring at a computer screen trying to figure out an error that made your code not to compile successfully. You can spend hours and even days trying to fix this bug. You will visit stack overflow, YouTube, Reddit, blogs and read documentation and still won't solve it. Sometimes you will question if this is the right career choice. Sometimes you will feel like picking up your computer and flinging it across the room. There are times you will even contemplate suicide. Trust me I've been there.

Coding is very difficult. If you are lazy, just don't waste your time learning to code. Learn a trade or learn some other skill like writing. If you are the type that doesn't like being alone for long, don't bother learning to code, because you will end up getting bored and dumping the career path.

Coding requires a very high intellect and acute problem solving skills. If you are not good with logic, don't waste your time learning to code. If basic maths topics like basic calculus and algebra confuses you, don't waste your time learning to code because you clearly don't have a brain for it.

Start from YouTube. Don't waste money and data on a Udemy course yet. Just download a short course on #C from YouTube and see if you like the language. If you don't, then no point learning further.

This is a challenge I will willingly take. I'll start from the first site and recreate all of them using just HTML and CSS

No it's purely CSS... I got it from a CSS product page.

The image is a png image, they're images without background. And yes with positioning, you can actually pull it off, just that you might not get the shadows correctly.

I did something similar in my upcoming project (would be posting it soon), although without the shadows.

I think I'll pass. I'm currently focused on Redux tool kit right now. I just used css to relax cos I was beginning to experience burn out from all the react shit I've been digging through throughout this week.

I went through your portfolio. You have good design skills. Are your skills just HTML CSS and vanilla JavaScript, or do you also know a front end framework like react? If yes, how far have you gone in learning react or whatever frontend framework you are focused on?

This is more of Photoshop than CSS. There isn't any background on the shirt. Even if I was to use a high z-index and do all the positioning tricks, I can't replicate this without some form of photo editing.

Mext time,just double click on your chrome browser and click on inspect .on the console by your right and side you will see styles.
Click on the color or background color to get a color picker,drag it on to the image color on your chrome browser. It will give you the color code
