Gone are the good days when people treat Corpers with courtesy and sometimes feed them free of charge. These days, it is common to see young guys serving Nigeria under the NYSC scheme struggling to “survive” at their place of assignment. Amenbovillage observed that help is no long as it used to be. The crux of the matter is that today people don’t trust easily. Wearing an NYSC gear is no longer enough to be trusted. And a male Corper worsened this fear recently when he was caught… The 26yrs old Corper, identified as Amadi Stanley, was said to have taken a 15-year-old girl, whose parent were friendly with him, saying they were going on a stroll. The girl, a secondary school student, wanted to return home after they’ve covered some distance, but the Corper refused and they started “dragging”. Before the teenage girl could know what was happening Corper Amadi was on top of her and he was said to have forcefully had carnal knowledge of the girl. She was later rescued from him and he was arrested by men of the Nigeria Police Force in Ede, Osun State, where he is posted to. Corper Amadi was charged before an Osogbo Senior Magistrates court on Tuesday where he was charged for counts relating to abduction and rápe. Prosecutor, Meriti Wilson, told the court that Amadi committed the offence on May 24 at about 6:30pm. When the charges were read to him, Corper Amadi pleaded not guilty. He was granted bail for N100,000 and the Magistrate adjourned the case to July 22, 2013, for trial. source http://amenbovillage.com/nysc-member-caught-raping-a-female-student/

Nigerians may not watch Wednesday's 2014 Fifa World Cup qualifier in Nairobi due to rights issues. Officials at Nigeria's state-owned television network NTA told KickOffNigeria.com that the rights holders are asking for an astronomical €400 000 broadcast fee to carry the game. "It is outrageous! That is an obscene amount of money for just two hours of live transmission and at very short notice," an NTA official said. He added that the network is still in negotiations to review the fee downwards. "If we can get it down, and bring in other stations like AIT, and so on, we may still be able to bring the game to Nigerians," he said. source http://www.kickoff.com/news/34827/the-nigeria-v-kenya-2014-world-cup-qualifier-may-not-be-televised With just hours to go until the game, that is looking like a long shot |

[quote author=berem]Am sorry to say this. Igbos are the most stubborn set of humans on planet earth! How can people value their business more than their lives? If 2 Hausa men are killed in igbo land today, you will see how Hausas will leave their businesses and run back to their states pending when things calm down or they might not even return. But igbos will rather remain in volatile areas and get killed. I won't be surprised if igbos still reside in SOE states. ebere m na emere umu igbo! This is so sad smh.... Is nt easy to come back home and settle down, did you have anything to offer wen they comeback? |

South African businessman Milton Mbele broke all the traditional rules of a polygamous wedding when he recently married four women on the same day. The four brides dressed in flowing white gowns walked down the aisle together, before saying “We do” to the 44-year-old groom. Mr Mbele says he didn’t marry them purely for the spectacle but also because it made financial sense. “I don’t know how much four different weddings would have cost me but I know doing it all at once saved money,” he explains. “For example I only needed one tent, I needed to hire one caterer and one photographer for the entire ceremony.” “I began putting money aside for the event towards the end of 2007 and started collecting quotes for things like the tent and catering costs early last year.” He says he loves all his wives – Thobile Vilakazi, Zanele Langa, Baqinisile Mdlolo and Smangele Cele – equally and also treats them that way. Mr Mbele himself wears four rings on his finger – he says this is a sign of his commitment to all his wives. The wives say they were shocked by the news that Mr Mbele wanted to marry them at once but add that they agreed because they love him. Some two weeks after their much publicised two-day ceremony, Mr Mbele says he is overwhelmed by all the attention his wedding has attracted. Mr Mbele, a Zulu businessman and municipal manager, says polygamy is still very much part of Zulu tradition. “My grandfather himself had three wives,” says Mr Mbele, quickly adding that he isn’t blindly following in his grandfather’s footsteps. “I prefer polygamy to having many girlfriends which is what some married men do,” he says. “If I love more than one woman, I would rather make it known to the other women in my life and make it official. “If I feel like taking another wife this is something that will be in the open and my wives would know,” he says |

Microsoft has confirmed that it will launch Office 2013 on January the 29th. According to a tweet from the Office team, and a #Timeto365 campaign/hashtag which was seen via Winbeta.org, it can now be confirmed that it is no longer a rumour that the Windows maker is “launching” the new Microsoft Office a.k.a Office 2013 on Tuesday in Bryant Park, New York and it would be generally available via retail channels. Microsoft released Office 2013 to manufacturing on October 11, 2012. The company made the final bits available to MSDN and TechNet subscribers, as well as volume-licencing customers, before the end of last year. Recently, Microsoft made $10 versions of the final Office 2013 bits available to volume licencees with Software Assurance as part of its Home Use Programme. Microsoft officials have been saying for a couple of months that a particular IT company planned to make the final bits commercially available in the first calendar quarter of 2013. The company already has taken the wraps off some of its Office 2013 SKUs, and will be pushing a new, subscription-centric version of Office that it has named Office 365 Home Premium. Unlike the other Office 365 SKUs, the Home Premium version isn’t a Microsoft-hosted version of Office. Instead, it’s downloadable, locally installable versions of the Office 2013 products for which users will be charged a monthly or annual “rental” fee. For that subscription fee, users will have the right to install Office 2013 and/or the Office for Mac 2011 SKUs on up to five PCs and Macs in total. Microsoft officials also have said that the “real” Office 365 update should be available around the time of the client launch. Microsoft officials have been prepping the company’s reseller/integrator partners for the Office 365 refresh for the past couple of weeks. http://www.channelstv.com/home/2013/01/28/microsoft-office-2013-to-be-launched-january-29th/
