Where do we get the cherry from now. Haba? We don't cherries in Nigeria. Please I beg of you again. Sit your friends down and explain the pros and cons of their actions and tell them how hurt you felt. That's the start. Hate no good my brother.

I've seen what hate can do. Trust me. It's dangerous.

I think we have the habit of blowing things out of proportion. Generally, we have not much trust in whoever is at the seat of power, that makes us look at almost everything with a bad eye. Or could this be because we're not used to doing things the proper way? But this stuff isn't even new.

What exactly is wrong with that? Sometimes it's good we keep politics or tribe or religion aside and view things plainly.
I side with you on this. What is wrong with people in Nigeria and politicizing everything? Mosquito bites someone, he will find a way of pushing it to politics. cheesy grin

Bros,

I am ashamed to say this, I should have been a FELLOW of both bodies by now, but my organisation moved me away from IT in 2010 to Corporate Strategy. I did not follow-up so much on activities, especially conferences.

The good news is that I am co-founder of a Tech startup(we're coming to market soon) and I will "put my leg back in" both NCS & CPN.
Please put your leg back in. We really need the young hands to shake this up. I'm tired of going to conferences and seeing old men that don't have hands on directing matters only on paper.

I have mandated two of my surbodinates to register for the April Digest so they too can come on board.

Bros,

This is why many of our "yoots" are either badly educated, have comprehension deficit, lacking in imagination or perennially daft. A simple reading through the publication gives all the necessary clarifications needed. I will imagine that "local content" should either be the key word or what they need to get the understanding...... but know, it takes a misguided person to start and lead other foolish ones who willing submit themselves to be led astray.

Meanwhile, I am member of both NCS and this body
My colleague in arms, chop knuckle jare as we say in Nigeria (actually fist bump). I joined NCS in my second year and CPN after service. So many ignorant folks on these forum (and in Nigeria), yet too proud to admit their ignorance.

Imagine FMBN pricing my application for peanuts because it's local content? Same FMBN dolled out millions to acquire their present solution for contribution. It's so painful.

I'm actually working towards becoming chartered with BCS.

The law, not the body, is what is being contested here.
I support the law. Let all local content providers be registered. Do you know how much Nigeria is losing to the outside world? Mastercard with a company I won't on this thread are responsible for National ID card meanwhile we have local companies they can do that.

I'm on the road now. I'll soon post something they will shock you from the body.

It tells you how much should be paid to an IT professional be it employed or consulting. Also based on levels and cadre.

If all IT professionals come together as one, no one will bamboozled.

The body has been fighting for this a long time now but no one listened.

About time.

So Chinedu who is running a small computer training center near my house should go and register?

And Ayo who owns a cyber cafe/photocopy shop along my street should also go and register?

This law is vague
They should outline the level and scale of service that fall within the provisions of that law.
Does it apply to people who provide these services on a large scale or on any scale at all?
Yes Ayo, Chinedu and even Waziri will need to be registered and regulated. It saves them.

Wonder why ICAN, NMA, COREN all exist as a body.

Thanks for that. People should be regulated and be legit. It's not even expensive.

This body has been existing for a long time now. I'm surprised at Nigerians.

I've been a member since my days in school. We also have NCS.

Both are the equivalent of BCS and ACS.

They exist to protect exploitation of IT people from crooked employers.

Don't mind them. That was how one was telling me to read. In his words and voice, "Read, young man, read". Imagine?

Knowledge does not rule the world or solve a problem. Wisdom does because without wisdom, how can one apply knowledge? Common sense also helps.

Rome was not built in a day. States institutions will not develope if we dont try new things. Under state police, dictatorial governors will meet their match in more active masses. For every action , equal and opposite reaction springs up. Research why it works in developed countries. Read, young man, read !!!
You have your viewpoints, I have mine. Don't force your opinion on mine or try to disparage me because this is a faceless forum. We are not ripe for state policing yet because of the below:

1. State governors will act with impunity.
2. Tribalism will set in. (an Igbo policeman will deal with a Yoruba man because of the hatred, vice-versa).
3. State executives will use it to harass political opponents.

I don't need to be a professor to understand that. Thanks for encouraging me to read though, Professor Max24.

You have been an old man right grin cheesy? So why haven't you clamoured for the so-called state police since? grin cheesy
