Adeoba10: The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday assured Nigerians that it will go ahead to conduct the forthcoming elections. INEC chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, speaking at a one-day workshop to train security agencies for the election, said there was no basis for concern over funding of the commission’s activities, as it was okay with the fund at its disposal. Jega, who was represented by a national commissioner in the commission, Dr Ishmeal Igbani, the chairman of INEC Electoral Training Institute, said “nobody will postpone election. “Anytime there is election in Nigeria, there is always some form of tension. I don’t think people should be afraid, but it is also essential that we get ready.” Also at the workshop, the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, warned politicians and political parties to play by election rules or face the full weight of the law. Represented by the commissioner of police in charge of election monitoring, Mohammed Ghanzali, Abba said the police, being the leading security agency for all elections, would enforce the rules of the law. Apostle Suleman’s 2015 prophecies: General election is another June 12, Buhari’s health needs attention The IGP re-echoed the need to respect the electoral rules as stipulated in the Electoral Act 2010, as amended and the constitution of the country.

chronique: For the first time in my life,I watched the coward called shekau talk in his new video where he warned Paul Biya of Cameroon of attacking Cameroon, and turning it into Nigeria. As he read from his book and gesticulated with his hands, all I could depict from the clip,is a drowning coward who has been hit badly, and is currently trying to put up a bold face before going down. Nigerian and Cameroonian forces have been dealing with these fuccktards and I'm quite sure their strength is waning. As I watched the video,I tried as much to take note of the environment and surrounding. Question I asked myself is,where exactly is shekau? In previous still photos of him which I have seen,he's always flanked by the same set of people in this new video, armed with anti-aircraft guns manned on trucks. At the end of the video,he is seen firing shots from an AK47 into the air. Now note this: this couldn't have taken place in a community where you have people as the sound of gunshots would attract people. It obviously must have been deep into the forest. I also noticed that shekau doesn't lead his troops to the battle front. What this means is that, shekau might be leading from a distance far from borno, adamawa or yobe. With the security agencies looking for him,he just might be far away from that zone. Shekau could be uploading and posting those videos from any forest within the federal republic of Nigeria. His evident distance from the battleline,is the no one sign of cowardice. I can bet that most of his commanders who lead the battle, probably do not even know him. The masking of face by his bodyguards,is a clear sign that they might be people who move around from time to time with their normal faces amongst us. To avoid being spotted, they keep their mask on. Shekau might not even be in Nigeria. He might be enjoying some kind of cover in Niger republic.
What struck me in this particular video,is the availability of 3 units of 2012-2014 toyota hilux. Now,as a car dealer,I know these cars are usually purchased by corporate bodies and govt officials. My question is: did one governor or one individual buy xyz units to distribute to xyz people and in that way, some units were passed on to these mofos? Ok,let's assume my analogy is wrong, how did He get these trucks. 2012 - 2014 hilux is not so much like pure water in the Nigerian market and most times, you find more of brandnew than tokunbo. So how and where did shekau purchase his units from?
If shekau is in Nigeria,we might be able to find him. Our security agencies(DSS,Army,Police, customs, immigration) should come together to solve this riddle. They should take stock of the no of hiluxes from 012-014 that has been shipped into the country and look at the consignee names on the bill of lading. From there, they can trace the buyers(especially those who bought brand new and in large quantities). After getting the exact no of 012-014 hiluxes in the country, they can trace the vehicles with their VIN nos by checking with the various licensing offices around the country,to find out where those vehicles are(states) and who and who is currently using them and where their addresses are. In the process of doing these,we'd be able to locate where most of these vehicles are. Those that cannot be traced or found, would have to be scrutinized. Those who purchased them/the dealers who sold them, should be quizzed and asked to narrate what they know about these missing ones(so long as they were not reported as stolen). If reported as stolen, checks should be made with the Nigerian police for the date of entry of report, and the info gotten, could be crosschecked with whatever statements the suspects must have tendered in the cause of investigation.
This would be a very rigorous exercise but I'm sure it could be pulled off. I might not be an investigative expert but I'm sure those saddled with such responsibilities, could make a mountain out of this little mole(that's if they haven't already done this).
My bet is that, shekau is quite some distance away from where this menace is taking place. It's quite some decoy. It's also possible that these vehicles are driven to the forest to and fro anytime he needs to make his video. It's also possible he gets sneaked into camp sometimes to make these videos. If we haven't been able to track him with all the arrest of boko suspects done so far and whatever info they must have gotten,it shows the vast gap of space between the top hierachy of the boko command, and the low and middle hierachy(those who lead others to battle). It makes it very difficult for him to be sold out easily.
No doubt, boko's operations looks quite sophisticated but with a lot of intelligence and brain storimg,we should be able to crack this code. I'd advice more efforts be put into intelligence gathering in other northern states(especially the new ones where bombs are currently blowing off);the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Nice writeup @OP this is very intelligent. I love the part that is highlighted. For you to have thought in such manner, it shows you're an intelligent person. SleekyGee: ur write-up is not that complete my brother, it is more sophisticated than that. the sambisa forest alone is larger than the entire lagos and most forests reach the borders giving the sect space and ability to secure the vehicles, weapons and even aides from cameroon, chad and even war-torn mali, it will take more than ecowas even interpol to trace any arms coming through the forest and a porous border. and with war crisis in somalia, libya and sudan pple can get weapons from the black market and open sea like ABC. shekau may not even be one person may have sereval doubles and their priests can summon new leaders, and with foreign sponsors, we just need a deep-rooted intelligence agency with international connections and many more(yawns) gat to sleep, but we mustn't forget it may be political hmm be flexible in thoughts Despite the fact that the OPs write up is incomplete, it is much more better than others who just keep blabbing and accusing the Presidency or APC for this terrorism. We all know there is a problem. Our ability to bring up constructive ideas to find the solution is what makes us intelligent and patriotic. |

deji68: Wow!! good review for GEJ by an American Newspaper ......
The January 5 editorial in the Wall Street Journal titled “#BokoHaramIsWinning” should serve as a wake-up call to the Obama administration. News reports of the ruthless, radical Islamist terrorist group’s takeover of an army base followed by the multi-national anti-Boko Haram force abandoning another base just yesterday is cause for great concern to Nigeria and its neighbors.
The focus of recent reporting has been on the deteriorating relationship between the Obama Administration and Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan. The reporting carries the usual themes of mutual distrust due to Nigerian perceptions of U.S. arrogance and lack of engagement on strategic issues on everything from oil and trade policy to national security issues, such as Boko Haram and China’s activities in the region, to U.S. charges of Nigerian government corruption. While those are valid causes for caution, the only entity that benefits from the lack of engagement cooperation is Boko Haram. With at least 5,000 innocents slaughtered since 2009 and no signs of that onslaught letting up, Boko Haram has brought a level of terror and barbarism to West Africa that is akin to Islamic State in Syria and Iraq (ISIS).
In the Hausa language, Boko Haram means “Western education is forbidden.” The name itself is a clue to its goals and ferocity. But why is Boko Haram focused on Nigeria? Certainly it has to do with the large Muslim population in the country. But it has just as much to do with the policies and actions of the Nigerian government.
President Jonathan is perhaps one of the most Western-oriented leaders on the African continent, intent on westernizing Nigeria through aggressive reforms in education, economic development (job creation and a focus on building sectors outside of the oil industry, such as tech), and women’s rights. There has also been a focus on education, especially in the predominantly Muslim north of the country where more than 1,200 schools and nine universities have opened. And the government has attempted to take on the overhang of corruption with government accountability and transparency policies.
It’s no coincidence that this anti-Western terrorist group has risen in direct parallel to the Nigerian government’s efforts. And it’s also not a surprise — given his seeming lack of interest in foreign policy engagement in general and Africa specifically, especially in countering rising Islamic threats on the continent from Libya to Kenya – that this U.S. president and his State Department have dropped the ball.
But the United States should have an interest in Nigeria if only to help Africa’s largest country — population 170 million — fight the common enemy that is Boko Haram. But there is another geopolitical imperative at stake. China continues to build its foothold in Africa and the Chinese are targeting Nigeria for its oil and other natural resources and strategic western Africa location.
By all accounts, Nigeria’s government is committed to taking on Boko Haram on its own terms, but has been seeking aid for heavy military equipment and weaponry to take the terrorists on. The Obama administration should be providing the kind of support the Nigerians are requesting, if not because of the terrorist threat, then the strategic value of having a strong ally in the region that looks to the West. http://spectator.org/blog/61405/why-us-stiff-arming-nigeria I have issues with the part I highlighted. I'm sure the person who wrote this report has been watching just NTA |

Buhari is more than capable to be a democratic President: 1. He is well trained not just to be an excellent President (an administrator), but also to lead as Commander In Chief. 2. Even those who hate him will tell you, Buhari will not bend the rule and be involved in mago-mago. He is an upright man and play by the rule (constitution). 3. The entire APC Primary Election is beyond proof that Buhari is willing to follow a democratic process, discuss issues and pick the best option on the table. He will work well with others. 4. His deputy is a well grounded Legal luminary, who will be at hand to support him so that he will not over step his bounds. 5. This is a democracy, prosecution of loters/criminals will be done by the courts and their judgement will be respected. 6. Fixing our broken systems will be don in collaboration with the National Assembly. 7. PDP as the main Opposition party will be at hand to scream if anything tries to go wrong. Also those in PDP know all the means of looting, so they will tell Nigerians if anyone tries to be funny. 8. When the Buhari administration start prosecuting Corrupt politicians, they will be pointing fingers and be exposing each other - as such the government will be able to recover looted funds we did not even know about. 9. A Buhari led FG will do all it can to better than that of Jonathan, else we kick them out. What is the essence of having two items if you will never use the other one.
Buhari will make a great Leader. Only the very corrupt are campaigning against him in order not to stop looting Nigeria.

Politics › Re: Buhari: I Have My Certificate, Ask The Army by dharyour93(m): 7:28pm On Jan 07, 2015 |
Whizzdom: A few weeks ago, a friend asked if I thought the 2015 elections would bring General Muhammadu Buhari to the highest office in the land for the second time. I should know, this friend said, as I was for Buhari in 2011 when it was not fashionable to support him. I told him that Buhari has everything going for him this time around but winning was dependent on the way he runs his campaign. Buhari must step away from being Buhari to win.
He must hire professionals to manage him and his campaign. Unfortunately, Nigerian political class does not know that there is a science to running a campaign. This makes the problem not Buhari’s alone, but the problem has a greater consequence now more than ever as people are saying that we have a good chance to stop Nigeria from tipping over and falling over the precipice.
Nigerian Political class in general would pay for thugs, find musicians to sing their praises as political jingles and do a dance on stages in the market squares in a dozen capital cities and return to await good results. When some of them fail and the party in power wins, they blame rigging and incumbency factors as the reason for their failures rather than incompetence in managing their campaigns. This is not to say that there are no riggings during elections, but rigging takes place mostly where an opposition candidate is unpopular.
The best antidote against rigging is to run a good campaign to make you popular among the electorate. Let us look at the political scene. Good luck Jonathan of the PDP has been campaigning for this election in the last four years. He even had a group going round the country ostensibly to pressure him to run again.
At every stop, they told Nigerians that Jonathan has been the best thing to come to Nigeria. The President and the cabinet have been using every opportunity to tell the people of how this current administration has been performing wonders. From Okonjo-Iweala to Maku, there has been no shortage of Federal government functionaries to sing the President’s praises. This is aside from the usual hatchet jobs performed by the duos of Doyin Okupe and Reuben Abati on the opposition.
Okupe and Abati seem to have forgotten that they are spokesmen for the President of Nigeria and not for PDP. In all these, the oppositions were statute barred from campaigning. INEC must declare the coast free for electioneering campaigns at least 90 days before the election. It means that the President has had a monopoly of sending messages to the people.
Muhammadu Buhari on the other hand, is loved by his followers because of his integrity. Even that took Buhari three Presidential runs and an alliance with three other regional parties before his integrity become known to people outside his political influence.
Few people including the candidate of APC understand modern method of campaigning. There is no organized campaign team that wakes up to think about the campaign. Rather a potpourri of failed aspirants and favored party operatives are handpicked to be in a campaign team. These new campaign staffers are at best strangers to the candidates and are more interested in competing for positions after the election has been won. The Candidate is therefore left to rely on familiar former associates who are mostly errand boys who are happy to be close to him. There are no critical thought given to their actions.
They do what has to be done. They obtain forms and fill them out using information perfunctorily supplied by their principals. Such is the situation surrounding the current certificate question that is threating the Buhari campaign. If there is any one behind the wheels of the Buhari campaign, can anyone explain the purpose of the affidavit that Buhari swore to that says: “I am the above-named person and deponent to this affidavit therein. “All my academic qualifications, documents as filled in my presidential form, President APC/001/2015, are currently with the Secretary, Military Board as of the time of presenting this affidavit.
The affidavit is made in good faith and for record purpose,” My take on this is that Buhari cannot locate his original certificate and he is saying the Secretary of the Army would have a copy. If I were running Buhari campaign, I would have dispatch a letter to the army Secretary asking for a copy. The affidavit to the INEC would have stated the fact that my secondary school certificate has been lost and that effort was being made to obtain a copy from my former employer. The worst offence of the Buhari campaign is that it allows this non-issue to continue for a long time thereby eclipsing all other efforts to launch any new ideas it may have. Lai Mohammed who normally speaks for the party ruefully intoned to a pressman that the PDP was being disingenuous by denigrating a former Head of State. Would anyone think Muhammad Buhari did not have a school certificate before he became a general in the army? He asked.
Those are not the issue. The issue is that the law says you need a proof of school attendance up to school certicate or equivalent and you have to show proof. The campaign has been silent prompting the Jonathan crowd to wax eloquent. One man on social media needed Buhari to answer if in fact he attended a Quoranic school before joining the army. The undertone of the argument of those pressing for answers is clear as anything. Yes, Buhari was a former Head of State after a military coup. Nobody ever came up during those heady days of the army to say General Buhari’s certificate has been checked.
His colleagues merely said he has been made the Head of State. Three times in the past he has run for the same office but during those three times, his prospect has never been brighter, so we need to check his certificate now. The Southwest which is seen as providing the swing vote to a victorious candidate in this election have the majority of its voters as youths under the age of 35 years.
Those age groups are more swayed by educational attainment and in fact are apt to equate educational attainment to competence. In response, a supporter of Buhari has robed President Jonathan in an ill-fitting academic gown with a label – Igbo made Ph.D. – a euphemism for an inferior, counterfeit and worthess product. The silence from the Buhari camp is now being interpreted as the usual Buhari contempt for constituted authority and the law of the land.
To buttress this point, the Jonathan camp are saying that both Babangida and Buhari spurned several attempts to testify at the Oputa panel set up by the Obasanjo administration. While it is true that Buhari , Babangida and Abubarkar did not attend the Oputa Panel, they relied on the decision of the Irekefe Panel set up on the missing $2.8 million fund by the Shagari administration. Obasanjo had refused to personally show up at the panel to answer questions.
He successfully defended his action through his lawyer Chief Rotimi Williams. Chief Williams argued and the Panel headed by Mr. Justice Irekefe agreed that Obasanjo because he was a former Head of State, had become an institution and therefore could not be questioned regarding the decisions he took while in office.
It is clear that by not showing up at the Oputa panel, Buhari, Babangida and Abubarkar were merely availing themselves of the protection of the court granted them through Obasanjo. Shall we now say Buhari has willfully contravened the law as the Jonathan people are quietly circulating? I must admit that Buhari is not being prosecuted in the court of law but in the court of public opinion. The only way to answer them is through his campaign team. As it turns out, Buhari has to wait for his party propaganda machine to work for him. That may fail him. If you can tell me that General Buhari doesn't have certificates, then I think there needs to be a verification exercise on all the Officers of the Nigeria Armed Force. If a Major General in the army is said not to have certificates, then I will say not all officers of the Nigerian Army have certificates. |
