Nairaland General › Ebola: Envoy, 58 Persons Had Contacts With Dead Liberian by DickDastardly(op): 7:27pm On Jul 28, 2014
The Lagos State Government said on Monday that it had identified no fewer than 59 people who had contacts with the Liberian who died of Ebola Virus in the state, Mr Patrick Sawyer.

Commissioner for Health, Dr Jide Idris, said at a news conference in Ikeja that the contact tracing became imperative to ascertain any possible transmission of the virus by the victim.

Idris said the identified contacts comprised 44 hospital and 15 airport contacts, including the Nigerian Ambassador to Liberia.

He said 20 of the contacts had been screened and that none of them had so far been found to be infected with the virus.

He, however, said the contacts did not include those he might have been with on his flight to Nigeria on July 20, as the airline had yet to release the passenger manifest for investigation.

He said, “The airline manifest has not been provided by the airline as at the time of this report and therefore, the precise number of passenger contacts is yet to be ascertained, especially as two flights were involved (Monrovia-Lome and Lome-Lagos).”

He urged Nigerians not to entertain fears about Sawyer’s case as the state and Federal Governments were doing everything possible to prevent any outbreak in the country.

Idris said the deceased’s body had been decontaminated, using 10 per cent sodium hypochlorite and cremated with the permission of the Government of Liberia.

He said, “A cremation urn has been prepared for dispatch to the family. The vehicle containing the remains have also been decontaminated while the hospital in which he died on July 25 has been demobilised .”

Idris said the state Ministry of Health had designated an isolation ward at the Infectious Disease Hospital, Yaba, for case management, adding three other centres were under way.

The commissioner urged residents to report people with abnormal cases of bleeding and fever to the appropriate authorities for intervention, as high fever with bleeding from all body openings were symptoms of the disease.

Idris also urged residents to always keep their environments clean and maintain good personal hygiene as Ebola virus spreads easily in dirty environments.

Also speaking, the Director, National Centre for Disease Control, Prof. Abdul-Salami Nasidi, warned against the consumption of bats and monkeys as these animals had been established to be the original sources of Ebola.

He said, “This is time for those bat-eating and monkey-eating communities to be careful now. Ebola started from the eating of chimpanzees. How the virus got to the monkey, nobody knows yet.

“But this is the time to be careful about the eating of monkeys and bats. The Ebola threat is high in West Africa and people should start taking precautions.”

President of the Nigerian Academy of Science, Prof. Oyewale Tomori, also warned Nigerians against the unsupervised burial of people who died from suspected Ebola case.

He said 40 per cent of cases in high risk countries were transmitted from victims bodies, stressing that an Ebola corpse was deadlier than the patient.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Health, Mrs Yewande Adeshina, urged traditional healers to collaborate with the government in checking Ebola threats by reporting suspicious cases for the right intervention.

berem: I see another islamic terrorist sect building up soon. This is the same mistake Yar'adua committed, extra judicial killings on Mohammed Yusuf. Even though GEJ did not have a direct involvement in this case,he will still be blamed because it happened during his tenure as president.
You have valid point here. But the language Fanatics/terrorists understand better is outright massacre of brainwashed faithfuls and minions. Ask America.
Buhari also used it successfully against the maitetsine sect in the 80's.

I know that Nigeria Muslim have been swallowing medicine for anoda man headache since 1800.. But l still pray that the dead rest in peace.
Then let the terrorists (like bokoharam) continue having their field day unhindered?
Unusual situations calls for unusual response. Whoever feels his religion is more important than my life should think twice before trespassing or venturing. Be warned, cos i rather strike first and ask questions later.
No more unauthorised public gathering in the troubled spots of this country till we reign in all terrorists.

Muslim Blaming Jona since 2010.
Sorry bro.
The sons should rot in hell. Who ever wants to add fuel to this already overheated polity should be wiped out with his entire village. Did the bastard el zakzarky ask for palestinian visa, it would have been granted, so he can go there and show solidarity. But showing solidarity in an already burning Nigeria, to me is the shortest cut to hell fire.
More blood of terrorists should be spilled please.

Nairaland General › Ibinabo Is Just A Small Girl – Mr Ibu by DickDastardly(op): 8:10pm On Jul 26, 2014
Comedy actor, John Okafor, has fired back at the president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Ibinabo Fiberesima, calling her a “small girl.”

Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu, said Ibinabo just registered as a member of AGN only when she became interested to rule the Rivers State chapter of the guild.

“I was the chief coach for AGN for four years. If I’m not a member, why would I be appointed? She is just looking for something to hold. The issue is that she is a small girl, she doesn’t know anything and I was trying to correct her but she was seeing it as if I was abusing her.

“I am not abusing her; she is a good person, I must tell you. But she does not know what administration is all about, she should leave it. I’m only respecting her because of the people who are connected to how she became the president of the Guild, otherwise I would have told her straight that she can’t do it.

“How can she be the president of AGN and all the states have two chairmen each and she cannot resolve the conflict and the Board of Trustees is not in order. They are not one and she cannot resolve it?

“She selects people and gives them post. It is not proper and she is killing herself the more. If she cannot rule, let her come down. Everything about this Guild is what you know.”

Reacting to the issue of going to Aso Rock to beg for money, as Ibinabo insinuated last week, Mr Ibu said, “I have never been to Aso Rock before, so I don’t even know how the buildings are. If she wants to go for second term, no problem but I told her instead of going there to make more enemies for herself, let her stop. If she wants to go, it’s not my business. Was I the one that took her to court? She has about three cases lying in the court as I speak to you. I’m not the one that took her to court. I don’t pretend.”

Nairaland General › Will Dilemma: To Sign Or Not To Sign. Pls Advice! by DickDastardly(op): 9:20pm On Jul 24, 2014
There is this Relation of mine. A very rich aged widow precisely.
She approached me yesterday and told me of how age wasnt on her side anymore, and as no one knows tomorrow, that she has prepared her WILL and would want me to be a signatory.
The problem is that she wont let me see the content of the WILL. That all i need do for her is just to append my signature on the appropriate place. All three of her grown children live in America. And the eldest is a spendtrift, junky and very dangerous guy. Something tells me the woman might have shortchanged him as she never speaks good of him.
My fear is that, if my suspicion is real, the guy might think i was part of the plot and come for me. And the old woman will not be alive then to exonerate me.

My Question is: Is it wise and normal for me to sign a WILL i'm oblivious of the content?

Nairaland General › Imo 2015: Arthur Nzeribe Writes Off Okorocha by DickDastardly(op): 9:09pm On Jul 22, 2014
Veteran politician and elder-statesman, Senator Arthur Nzeribe, has vowed to resist the re-election of the governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha in 2015. Senator Nzeribe, who described Okorocha as, “a governor full of baggage” boasted that a new governor would emerge in the state in 2015. He described nine key governorship aspirants in the state as belonging to the “analogue age.” His words: “On May 29, 2015, Douglas House in Imo State will play host to a baggage-free brand new governor. The fresh governor will emerge from one of the two distinct groups in Imo politics, made up of 15 candidates. “Nine politicians out of the two identified groups can be regarded as analogue or old political activists, the rest six are digital or new political activists.” The veteran politician, who has been out of the nation’s political space since his exit from the Senate in 2007, equally vowed that he would influence the emergence of the next governor of Imo State in 2015. He said: “Here in Imo State, critics may want to know why Nzeribe has taken it upon himself to pontificate on who should govern the state in 2015. Should this question arise, it will be an interesting poser. “In the last three governorship elections in Imo, I looked the other way when the governors were being installed by outsiders. In this very project of seeing that decent and straightforward politicians take over the mantle of leadership in Imo State, I will never look away again. “I made genuine mistakes in the past and kept quiet, this time around, it will be undemocratic, if not immoral and cowardice of me to keep quiet.” Nzeribe also identified politicians, who would not rule Imo State in 2015. “In fact, we do not want those that will run our economy down to file out either as pretenders or as contenders to the governorship seat in the state in 2015. “Those whose agendas are to buy and fuel private jets, build intimidating estates in choice places at the expense of the state will not get near Douglas House. “Imo State will not fall in the hands of those who want to continue to own houses in strategic areas across the world.” Also, those who purchased and owned private banks in tax haven countries abroad will not be allowed to govern Imo State come 2015. “The dubious politicians maintaining fat foreign accounts in different hard currencies will not come near Douglas House in 2015,” he affirmed. He revealed that consultations among stakeholders in the state have reached advanced stages, adding that they would not sit back and watch the state looted. “Money will not be an issue for stakeholders in the project of purging Douglas House of looters. Already, the stakeholders have come together and consultations are continuing. Purging Imo State Government House of treasury looters is a task that must be done. Imo State is no longer for sale,” he added.
