fctguy: And PMB expects the talks he had with the person inviting him to join forces against terrorism which he tactically rejected, will yield fruits?
SMH, international politics is about give and take, Saudi has nothing to lose cuz they have judiciously put their oil money into use so oil price falling is not a problem but their main problem is terrorism and the guy asked PMB to join him to fight against terrorism and he refused?
And we expect him to help boost oil prices? we must be high on something Then our sufferings kwantinu the fall of Oil price is greatly affecting their economy badly . Stop telling lies just to paint PMB bad. How many terrorist attack have you heard happened inside Saudi Arabia |

Business › Re: 3 Major Shipping Lines Quit Nigeria As Freight Rates & Trade Volume Crashes by diegwu01: 8:31am On Feb 23, 2016 |
Dee60: Nigeria has for long been seen a dumping ground for all kinds of goods, from toothpicks, to all kinds of rice and fish and tomato paste. The foreign shiping companies were the unintended beneficiaries of that. They brought in MEGA vessels full of all sorts and sailed back EMPTY because Nigeria did not have any exports to offer the world, apart from oil.
Shanghai to Apapa for a 20' container cost USD2800 at one time. At that same time Shanghai to Hamburg cost only about USD150. Because of petro dollars we went on buying just everything and paying huge freght rates. All of the shipping companies wanted to be here to partake of the windfall.
Now the tonnage deployed has far exceeded the demand and naturally the freight rates will fall. This is why the fringe players are packing their loads.
Low freight rates are good for our economy, because it means landed cost of raw materials will be lower, duties will be lower, and NIgeria can produce at lower costs.
We have an opportunity to turn around the economy like India and China did many years ago, by targeting low cost production that will enable Nigeria to export manufactured goods at scale to other countries.
Nigeria must trade and must seek good trade balances. It is senseless to make your economy a dumping ground that we have been in the last 2 decades.
Today, freight rates from major Asian ports to Nigeria is still about USD1500/20' and it is still significantly higher that Asia to Europe which would not noramlly exceed USD700. The information can be googled. It is available to everyone to see. If a shipping company will check out of Nigeria at the current rates, then it did not really have any reason to be here in the first place.
CBN is rght on one thng. Nigeria cannot be treated as a dumping ground anymore. Low freight rates are good for the economy. At the current rate, any sincere shipping company will still be making a fortune. The main cost of shipping is bunker (oil) which are selling very low right now, meaning that the cost of sailing ships to Nigeria has dropped significantly.
And some Nigerians are crying wolf! I dont understand that. trust me, A wailer won't read this, Its too long for them. |

Business › Re: CBN Bans Use Of Dollars For Overseas Fees, Medical Trips by diegwu01: 8:17pm On Feb 12, 2016 |
Sant1m: The price of the dollar now, has always been the real value of the dollar for more than 3yrs now, the price before now was sustained by corruption. what had sustained the price at close to 200 before now was our leaking CBN vault under PDP. The leakage under a corrupt PDP ensured that there was enough supply of dollars in the(parallel) or black market, the corrupt dollars flowing in then from NNPC, CBN, NIMASSA etc ooh $2.1b armsgate dollars all found their way to the hands of mallams , with these type of corruption, dollar was sustained around 200 in the black market because of illicit supply from those who opened our vaults and shared our money out to friend and relations. The difference now under PMB, is that by blocking leakages the supply to mallams have drastically reduced yet demand remains static, hence the pressure is pushing up the price towards equilibrium. The baned items by CBN is just to ease the pressure as we pursue diversification in the long and shout run. Under the PDP model of corruption supplying to the parallel market instead of incomes from production, we were only postponing the evil day, but under this deliberate and sustained effort, expect a genuine rebound in the near future, it will not go back easily to 200 in the parallel market. Investment and diversification is the only true way to go. The road to true nation building is deliberate, it takes a strong leader that will go against the status quo, it will not be perfect, as mistakes will be made but if PMB can help us sustain for 8yrs at least, people will start coming to Nigeria for school and medical tourism also. We shall get there This make lot of Sense |

I will ask and i wll ask again, what steps have been taken to make the naira stronger against the dollar? the central bank governor is just engage in trial and erroe policies. A sensible government ought to have replaced dis man as well as the finance minister. Aside that, this administration during their campaign promised to repair the refineries. Some months after it came into power, it was circulated in the media that the Port Harcourt refinery will start production of 5million litres of PMS daily for local consumption, and about 2 or 3 months ago, the same thing was said about the Kaduna refinery. But till date, we are yet to see the effect of the "working" refineries. Unless, an APC e-rat can come on board this platform to list all what dis administration has been able to achieve since it cam into power apart from apportioning blames and it's one-sided fight against corruption, they shouldn't come here to make noise DUMB! |
